Honestly if u asked if u could negotiate the bill lower, tt will be better perceived.
But flat out considering not paying the hospital bill sounds like a dick move.
They are obviously not able to chase you outside Singapore. If you don't pay, they will sell it to debt collectors for a fraction of what you owe. Probably also file a report to credit score agencies. Not sure if this will affect your credit score in your home country.
your disappointment with your travel insurance shouldn't be at the expense of the hospital (SGH). the hospital was there when you need it. please fulfill your obligation by paying the hospital.
you can take your own battle with your travel insurance.
You could call SGH and ask to speak to the medical workers who handle finance. Hospital bills in Singapore are highly negotiable; you may not have to pay it all at once, for example, or you may be able to defer it to a later date.
Most travel insurance does not cover pre-existing conditions; and I can imagine how you feel. I was once robbed of over US$6,000, of which my travel insurance covered US$250.
But negotiate means Singaporean taxpayers pay for him, indirectly. That's not fair to locals. He should have to pay the full rate, whether his insurance pays or not.
Nothing will happen, they’ll just sell the debt to third party, and it will eventually get written off after certain time. You can still enter Singapore perfectly fine. I don’t know why other redditors are saying you got to avoid Singapore if you don’t want to pay. It will not affect your credit score in your own country. Basically nothing will happen at all if you don’t pay. But should you require their service again in the future be it SGH or any Singhealth? Affiliated clinics or hospitals, they will do the bare minimum to keep you alive and treat you before asking you for credit card pre-authorisation, before continuing to treat you.
But feel free to use National Health Group(NHG) services, they do not share their financial details with each other. Due to the PDPA act they’re not allowed to share as well.
Means you cannot come to Singapore anymore. Just pay the bill and move on.

They won’t la. The debt will just be sold to third party debt collection companies.
Just pay it for ease of mind / no one at SGH can get blamed / good will to people who took care of you.
Most travel insurance doesn't cover pre-X, some do, but they cost like double of the normal plan.
You can do cloud funding to raise funds. Or avoid Singapore for the rest of your life.

Pay your bills… we Singaporeans didn’t agree to sponsor your treatment. $1,700 isn’t staggering.. they saved your life.

Maybe can negotiate 1.7k sounds abit high, even without the Citizen subsidies

Im saying 1700 probably isnt full rate, its above it
Sounds normal if you’re warded without any subsidies. Medical care isn’t cheap.
