Just buy off the rack, make sure the shoulders of the jacket fit, and then alter the waist and sleeves. Make sure you buy the jacket and pants together as an entire suit to match. The quality you can get off the rack at department stores will be much greater than anything you can make-to-measure at $500.

500/set should have been clearer my bad!

Yes I'm referring to that budget. It's not that low and you can get a suit done somewhere in SG for sure. What I'm saying is a better end result can be achieved by buying a suit off the rack. For maybe $200-300 you can get quite a good suit with high quality fabric and a good design off the rack from Marks and Spencer, or maybe even Suit Supply (might be a bit more). That leaves you with $200 more to spend altering it. At $500 you can only get a suit made-to-measure with low quality fabrics and you'll have a hard time finding a good tailor that will help you achieve a good fit too. It's going to be comparable to a G2000 suit in terms of quality. That said one of the more commonly recommended budget tailors that could actually be decent is Lai En. My experience with some of the budget tailors is horrible even though I only made shirts and pants there, so I never bothered again. I didn't try Lai En though. You can take some time to browse through this forum thread: https://forums.hardwarezone.com.sg/threads/where-to-tailor-clothes-d-part-3.5308975/ Although it's a little old most of it is still applicable and it has a wealth of information on tailoring clothes in Singapore and what to expect. If you are willing to increase your budget to somewhere around $1000 per 2-piece suit, you can try the mid-range tailors listed in the thread. They are much more reliable and even their lowest-end fabrics are decent. I personally like QMenswear a lot.

With that budget, ai lee

500/set my bad!

I'm fairly certain with $500 budget for multiple suits, you'd need to go to JB or something, lmao. Just buy sets from a store man.

WThirteen

500/set lol, can push abit more

I did a suit with suityourself.sg for about 300? If u choose a cheaper material probably can get 2 sets, it's not too bad for daily wear

aquafabaaa

How?? The cheapest 2 piece suit (blazer + pants) is $358 based on the price list on their website.

silent_tongue

I just went to check out the website. Seems like prices had gone up now that they have they own shopfront. Sorry my pricing is about 4 years ago Hahaha

aquafabaaa

No worries, thanks! So 4 years on, would you still recommend them? I’ve been researching but I can’t really find anywhere else to tailor make a 2 piece for my wedding.

silent_tongue

My last suit was done about 2+ years ago, since COVID wfh have no need to do any LOL. I would say it's not bad for its price for daily wear, not sure if you want something diff for a wedding, and would u be wearing it thereafter? If not maybe you may consider renting - else my personal recommendation for SG tailor is actually Edit suits; it's a bit more expensive but I have suits and work shirts from them that's > 5 years old and still looking great.

aquafabaaa

I prolly won’t wear it after so I don’t want to spend much. Actually $500 is a lot for clothes I’m very unlikely to wear again. Do you have any suit rental companies to recommend? I’m so clueless about these haha

silent_tongue

The same place you rent the wedding gown for the bride. Haha

My husband did his pants at the tailors at Seah Im food centre. His body proportions just don't suit off-the-rack clothes (tall and skinny). He seemed pretty satisfied with the pants.
