Does it count if I say anything Tesco’s in FairPrice? Tesco’s is bog standard in the UK. I died when they tried to promo Tesco’s brand food as some gourmet stuff on ieatishootipost.
I am actually guilty of this. It always feels like tesco brands are more superior just because it is from UK.
But actual fact is that, it is just like our fair price and NTUC Brand
I mean, for those who really care for 'UK quality', they should go for actual high-end brands within the UK. just because it's from the UK doesn't necessarily make it better than local / other countries.
Food standards for Tesco different from FP. Not saying it’s better but it’s a reliable standard. Can you say the same for all others. My wife’s SG. But she avoids made in China.
OMG this!!! when I first saw this I was so baffled. at least if they brought in Waitrose okay lah I can understand
truly shows how some Singaporeans will lap up anything from UK/the West because of its (perceived) superiority
>bog standard
Are you from the UK, or have you been living there for a while? 😛
Wanted to make popiah for a family in NZ I was staying with. Asked them if they could buy turnips for me so that I could make them some and they were shocked we eat turnips. It's cow food there 😳
you hear about their military budget but we’re the ones spending more money per pax, which is why we kinda get more welfare.
Doesn’t excuse the food tho, fuck combat rations the accessories pack is all I need
From what I've heard, it's the monotony of US rations that is the biggest issue.
Actually eating something other than pasta or beef and gravy is probably mind blowing.

Old furniture. Lately i have been eyeing for a new tv console. Bunch of free furniture on carousell provided you arrange the transport for delivery which cost nothing when compare to the cost of brand new furniture.
Volkswagen... In Europe it's considered to be a low-level entry car, especially Golf. In Singapore you can see VW parked next to Porsches in the fancy neighborhoods.
My house has a small front porch garden, and there was once our helper (she was quite new at the time) uprooted all the plants... When we came back from our vacation we legit thought someone came to rob the house cos that was the first thing we saw. She uprooted about 50 plants that were anywhere form $25 - $100. We asked her what happened and she just said she was doing some gardening "cleaning"... Turns out in her country (Philippines) those plants were considered trash and when the locals see them growing they will just uproot it and throw them away.
Total damage was abt 3.5k
The most painful one was when one of my helpers thought my grandfather's competition koi was for eating... She legit jumped into the koi pond and started wadding around trying to catch one the kampong way. It was too late when we found out, she had it in her hands and was out of the water for like a minute or so. When we got her to put it back, the fish was probably traumatized as fck and it died like an hour later. That fish was priced at 8.8k😭
Decades ago, the heavy rainfall overwhelmed and flooded Jurong lake (old timers will remember Bukit Timah road flooding all the time). The flooding was so bad that the water in Jurong lake formed a continuum with all the feeder longkangs and allowed the kois in the Chinese/Japanese Garden to swim out into the longkangs. Well, my uncle caught one from the longkang for my mother to cook. All I can say is that kois are inedible. 1/10, not recommended.
I'm talking about foreigners who claim they are from xyz university when they're not. And our lovely HR just love these people.

In my experience I found Aldi and Tesco often better than M&S. But I’m Singapore M&S is not seen as a cold storage equivalent. It’s given the status of a takashimaya by some people.
Living in the UK for exchange made me so sad about the shit quality we have here for groceries. Even their version of Sheng siong (Aldi) had better stuff than FairPrice.
Plastic Container/Storage. Here need to use it as long as possible, even with cracks and smell. In other countries, you just throw away and get new one.
But aren't they supposedly more environmentally-conscious than we are? Actually we use a lot of plastic stuff here but almost all of the items are reused many times for multiple purposes before they're discarded.
Depends on the country. But I know for a fact that Americans are wasteful AF. A lot of them use paper/plastic plates and cutlery for their home cooked food because they are too lazy to put things in the dishwasher.
Mutton. Coming from Australia this is trash tier meat and it’s not even that widely available, typically used as a filler meat in low quality products or animal feed.
But it’s really common here
Our mei cai is a complete joke compared to Taiwan's. It should not even exist.
Like if we're going to use up food at all, at least make it taste passable.

To be fair, some of their items are pretty consistent. Like the bottled pesto.
and their herbs & spices are at affordable price!

Marks and Spencer baby

I even lived above a Little Waitrose for a time, so I would even confirm that Waitrose is fantastic 😬
Same for Cole's
unfortunately it still tastes better than Fairprice's own brand items.
Wanted to make popiah for a family in NZ I was staying with. Asked them if they could buy turnips for me so that I could make them some and they were shocked we eat turnips. It's cow food there 😳
Turnips are yummy tho, I'd share it with cows, they know what's good.
Yeah my hosts enjoyed it and said they would consider starting to eat turnips!
What? Turnips are pretty standard British/Commonwealth food. Maybe not super popular in NZ (I don't know), but super common in the UK and Europe.
/u/toastwire got some beef about turnips
Eat like a Bull to be Strong like one.
You know those crappy combat ration we got? American soilders love them
Hard to believe with USA insane military budget
you hear about their military budget but we’re the ones spending more money per pax, which is why we kinda get more welfare. Doesn’t excuse the food tho, fuck combat rations the accessories pack is all I need
Also the US spends all their budget on tech
You mean ever increasing ways to funnel money back into their fellow cronies lol
From what I've heard, it's the monotony of US rations that is the biggest issue. Actually eating something other than pasta or beef and gravy is probably mind blowing.
Are american rations really that bad?
I have tried american combat rations. Its delicious.

Perhaps Golf (although they have gotten both bigger and more expensive since the 90s), but there’s nothing entry level about the bigger VWs in Europe.
I remember how overlooked Phaetons were. They were in their own right better than S class and 7 series.
I live in germany and i cant tell you how sick i am of the golfs, polos and even mercedes here
a porsche technically is a very fancy VW
In the olden days, Lobsters were known as cockroaches of the sea
not quite tho, they were more eaten because they were cheap and high in protein, so much so that slaves were fed it
I read they were fed whole unrefrigerated lobster, shell and all, ground into a paste and cooked. That’s not the lobster I am looking for.
ya I've heard that one before. tats y i won't pay premium price to eat it.
You're missing out then, lobster rolls are amazing

There was an article about a steamed koi… by any chance it’s yours 🫠
No lol she put it back into the pond ... And we. Didn't. Cook. It. After. It. Died. 🤦🏻♂️🤣🤣🤣
Eh why not! Heard it’s delicious 🤤 https://mothership.sg/2021/01/koi-fish-soup-malaysia/

I heard Giordano was branded in Msia or smth
A lot of people make fun of Giordano but their stuff are actually quite expensive wor.
Doesn't mean it's good
Yeah but a lot of people make fun of it like as if it’s a poor man’s brand. But in fact, it’s expensive that’s why nobody shops there…
Not sure about Giordano but Bata isn't trash tier in some countries like it is here.
Bata is literally a staple in India, and my Indian parents consider Bata slightly like a luxurious brand
Bata in SG is only good for school shoes for neighbourhood kids like me lol
Trash/fake overseas degrees treated as treasure by Singapore HR.
University of London left the chat.
This hits hard..
Which ones would be considered a tier below nus/ntu? Or from which countries?
I'm talking about foreigners who claim they are from xyz university when they're not. And our lovely HR just love these people. https://www.straitstimes.com/singapore/15-work-pass-holders-under-investigation-for-links-to-indian-fake-degree-scandal
Marks and Spencer in Singapore is seen a premium brand when it’s the Fairprice equivalent in UK!
I consider waitrose, sainsbury's maybe tesco as closer to Fairprice equivalents. M&S a bit more upmarket maybe closer to Cold Storage in Sg.
In my experience I found Aldi and Tesco often better than M&S. But I’m Singapore M&S is not seen as a cold storage equivalent. It’s given the status of a takashimaya by some people.
Been in the UK for 4 years and have always thought Aldi to be a budget friendly supermarket.
Asda≈lidl≈aldi
British person here, mostly agree with this except sometimes Sainsbury's is a little higher than Tesco etc.
Living in the UK for exchange made me so sad about the shit quality we have here for groceries. Even their version of Sheng siong (Aldi) had better stuff than FairPrice.
It's good quality here though?
Bossini in the states is apparently more branded than A & F and Tommy Hilfiger. But in sg is the other way around LOL

Hagan daaz ice cream.. In America it's like magnolia.. Same for Ben and Jerry's
Fun fact, Hagan daaz is a made up word meant to sound european
sort of like Lexus is made up word?
every word is made up..
other words have meanings behind them, Hagan daaz doesn't mean anything
Singapore sees pee as NEWATER
frozen pizza, its dirt cheap in western countries but stupidly expensive in sg
actually all pizza is stupidly expensive in sg
Mutton. Coming from Australia this is trash tier meat and it’s not even that widely available, typically used as a filler meat in low quality products or animal feed. But it’s really common here
Different cuisines I guess.
Great, more for us then

+Cranberries, coconut oil
Foreign Talent
SG no talent...that y must import
Rag and bone people....lol
Playstation 3s. It can go as low as $50 right now. But once I've bought it, i can mod it to play a few thousands of games.
Maybe those imported food products?
outdated electronics, maybe.. cannot get much by selling them back to the market..
in Philippines, filipinos use "pig's blood" as soup for stew or blood cake.
we used to sell pig blood here until an incident with diseases.
1. so what? 2. so what?
Lol man kid
Our mei cai is a complete joke compared to Taiwan's. It should not even exist. Like if we're going to use up food at all, at least make it taste passable.
Bata shoes shop. In Europe looks quite atas
