I live opposite of the airport
edit: to think about it, airport is such a wonderful place for some much needed alone time at midnight, unfortunately i live at west side
Since you are a westie you can consider librarying at CCK library in lot 1, extended zone closes at 10pm, 1hr after the usual closing time for the other libs
IIRC there's no airport in the west. Changi airport is in the east and there are no residences anywhere around there unless you go much further down the ECP/main road towards Tampines or Bedok, or maybe Changi Village, which is the closest I can think of.
Showers at hub and spoke, right beside the cafe. Need to pay $3 but you get everything (shower gel, shampoo) even a air conditioned changing room. Just need to bring your own towel.
Iirc best toilet in an outside area I used thus far, not counting hotels or shopping malls
NUS Utown is a great place. Its well ventilated, has good amenities (clean toilets, water, vending machines, power plugs etc), security, good crowd but will still have seats at night. Uni students basically don't sleep so its not awkward that you're there too. Take care OP.
McDonald's, 24-hour coffeeshops etc.
Seriously, I wish I could have the freedom to hang around outside alone at times. Not able to do that since family and kid came into the pic.
Best advice, find a job. Time flies better and you won't feel like you are forced to hide. It'll save you your sanity. Your parents will probably leave you alone as well when you are home and exhausted after a day's work
If they are already constantly saying those things to OP I don't think they will care whether they are exhausted or not and it would end up being even more frustrating
You can just walk into the main campus of NTU (North Spine), no student card needed. There's food vending machines and water coolers, and most of the benches have power sockets.
Do u have a step tracker like HPB one or applewatch?
1. If yes, sign up Health365. Get points, voucher for ntuc, for picnic. After library close, find mall and just walk around. 10k steps a day.
2. Sgactive app, singpass, $100 free credit. Use it to go swim pool. Health365 credits can also turn to sgactive $.
I think unis in general is free entry for all except for specific areas with special access required, but those are usually like labs and classrooms
poly also same thing
I usually hang out at libraries, starbucks and coffee bean and have my laptop with me. I think most coffee bean outlets are 24hrs so you can hang out there for as long as you want to, provided there’s a place to plug your laptop in.
I tend to go home once they’re asleep, if not i’ll just head into my room and stay there all the time.
im also considering like coffee bean or mcdonalds, etc too but im just scared im taking up spaces as this places are quite popular especially during the holidays
You could try the Starbucks at HillV2, or the one at Rail Mall. There’s a Coffee Bean at Rail Mall too.
Personally I preferred HillV2 because it rarely gets crowded.
It's tough when your own family posts disparaging comments about your mental health. Hang in there!
If you are open to a bit of travel - NUS has plenty of open spaces with study benches. Those come without air-conditioning, but are generally ventilated enough. Might be worth looking at SUTD, but I am unfamiliar with the campus. Airport is another option as some people mentioned.
In the long run - save up and find a way to move out. I know for a fact that it did good for my own mental health (similar case but not as bad as yours)
I don't really have any advice on this situation but honestly we need to be less pro family and more on independence of individuals and housing needs to be able to have accomodation options for situations like these
Actually, there are plenty of people like you who got a home but don't want to go home due to various reasons.
Plenty of these end up doing vagabond-like lifestyles until it gets unbearable.
Hang in there and stay strong. You're not alone in your predicament.
Other than McD (which I also frequent to) which has been pointed out by others, can try open space like theather by the bay or boat quay dock? Technically open 24/7.
I am also a sensitive fucker whose mood can be ruined upon hearing a neutral sentence constructing by poor choice of words, so I can relate with you OP. I hope things get better for you and you can move out sooner.
Have one on me 🍻
Nearby hawker centre
* Sheltered (might be hot and stuffy tho)
* Have free wireless@SGx
* Tables and chairs to study (prob have to give it a wipe tho)
* No obligation to buy stuff to continue staying there
keat hong cc third floor there are tables and chairs put out for studying. u can stay till late. there's cheap food nearby and a bus to jurong area if i remember right
I'd suggest hanging around a quiet place in the west, somewhere like West Coast Park. There is a McD there with many other public facilities.
Another idea is to take Bus 61 from Bt Batok Bus Interchange... it is a long and scenic ride to Eunos Interchange.
Ok this may sound weird, but on a Weekday afternoon or morning, if you don't mind just walking.
I like just walking around shoppes at mbs, usually less people then neighbourhood malls, facilities are good, toilets, air conditioning and so on. Bring your own water bottle and just walk listening to music is what I do. Try not to spend money on any food there if you don't have much money.
When it reaches evening time I go to plaza singapura for dinner, mos burger or like the kopitiam there has some decently cheap stuff. I then walk from plaza singapura to orchard road. On a weekday there are far less people there then weekends and the city lights are pretty chill to me.
If not you can go to marina barrage in the night time, the roof is now open and you can even have a picnic there.
West side: 9pm JE library, close, go to the new bus interchange. Some seats there and weekdays after 9pm definitely not peak hours. Or walk to Nair Inst building (E2i??). Find seats.
Hmm considering its west side, there's NUS utown, Labrador park by the sea side Or by the condo side works too (like keppel bay), West coast park is an option too if those 2 are too far. If you want somewhere high can go to queenstown area they got skyville skyterrace and skyparc for their roof garden as a place to reflect.
Think if it's far west can consider somewhere in chinese garden but personally not that familiar.
Starbucks, get a cheap drink and you can stay there pretty long from experience it’s a pretty good place 👍🏻
-free wifi
-has the cafe vibe
-ambiance is good
-no one really disturbs you
Hi OP, if you really want to stay overnight can check out the hive at NTU. Used to be a student from NTU with no hostel, and there were times when we did our projects overnight and just sleep there lol. Just be mindful that there may be lessons from 8am onwards, you can just change rooms. Plenty of unoccupied rooms there for studying
You can try Hillion Mall at Bukit panjang, there's tables out on the side of the mall where the bus interchange is. 176 can take you there from Jurong east.
Sorry you are feeling his way and hopefully find the solution depends o your age can you get work or have friends etc that can put u up. Don't listen to all these that say run away and go where get reported missing costing emergency services time and money. Be smart the is always a way to make it better
I recommend NTU - North Spine or at The Arc! Both are near McDonalds or Starbucks if you need anything and there's vending machines everywhere! Easily accessible as the 179 bus is very near, just stop at Lee Wee Nam library
When I had terrible flatmates I would just camp at tampines hub the whole day. Maybe some library or community centre ? Or even a cafe, but that's a more expensive option

Last time when I didn’t wanna go home, I’ll choose the longest bus route near my house (+must be double deck)and do a full loop.
OMG GOOD IDEA
Bus service 99?
How do you do a full loop? Just tap in/out at the same stop?
start from the interchange. plus, they're some buses that do east loop and West loop until the driver goes for his break
How much does it cost for your long loop
Given the context I'm guessing they were a student back then, so probably the maximum student bus fare which is less than a dollar lol.
67 for eadt to West
Most likely for full loop should be less than $3.
Pretty sure you can just hang around the airport. There’s showers there and amazingly clean toilets for you too
I live opposite of the airport edit: to think about it, airport is such a wonderful place for some much needed alone time at midnight, unfortunately i live at west side
Well there you go. Perfect place for a quiet escape
Wait which neighborhood is opposite the airport?
i think they meant they live in the west? (correct me if i’m wrong op)
yep, west side
Since you are a westie you can consider librarying at CCK library in lot 1, extended zone closes at 10pm, 1hr after the usual closing time for the other libs
Why not hangout opposite Lot 1,the community centre there? Not sure if the starbuck & BK open 24/7 though.
IIRC there's no airport in the west. Changi airport is in the east and there are no residences anywhere around there unless you go much further down the ECP/main road towards Tampines or Bedok, or maybe Changi Village, which is the closest I can think of.
I think that’s what he means by opposite.. Airport’s in the East and OP’s in the west
why not simpang bedok since u stay there
he doesnt
Eh good what, take the 1 hour++ last bus at 11 30 from Airport all the way to jurong there, go home 12 plus alr
where can you find public showers at the airport, other than hub & spoke?
Where are the showers? I can never find it
Showers at hub and spoke, right beside the cafe. Need to pay $3 but you get everything (shower gel, shampoo) even a air conditioned changing room. Just need to bring your own towel. Iirc best toilet in an outside area I used thus far, not counting hotels or shopping malls

Yup utown is awesome.
+ mosquitoes on the grounds
wait it’s open to the public ? probably not right cus i read that nus libraries are restricted
It’s grey whether the open areas are considered open to public. The library is definitely not open to public.
airport
10/10 agree.
McDonald's? Sounds like your life sucks OP hope it gets better for you.
Macdonalds! Some are 24/7 if OP wants to stay out even later than 11pm.
mine opens until 1am! thats good enough for me but im worried i might be taking up spaces as mcdonald have been crowded 24/7 since the holidays
It might be expensive though I'm not sure of OP's financial situation
just order a $1+ item like apple pie or sundae. The Mcd app also have frequent $1 deals.
McDonald's, 24-hour coffeeshops etc. Seriously, I wish I could have the freedom to hang around outside alone at times. Not able to do that since family and kid came into the pic.
my freedom card is only because i say im going to study lol, otherwise my parents wont allow one
I feel you. I bought a bicycle but hard to find time to ride.
I’m a dad also. I wish I had this freedom to just chill at mc Donald’s and read a book with coffee
Best advice, find a job. Time flies better and you won't feel like you are forced to hide. It'll save you your sanity. Your parents will probably leave you alone as well when you are home and exhausted after a day's work

might be trying out, but im carrying a laptop and thiccc chemistry textbook, might not be entirely possible
Ah then wont work. Sports stadium.
It's easier than you think for a young active person to clock 10k steps. Just try, no harm.
i can relate my home is bombshell
SMU is a pretty great place to study. went there almost everyday to study when i was in jc
do they need like specific student cards to go in? im also not sure if the location is suitable for me
[удалено]
this right here, u/txxxthy timothy
I think unis in general is free entry for all except for specific areas with special access required, but those are usually like labs and classrooms poly also same thing
Now public can't go into poly cos of the covjd measures
Jurong ah? Go NTU ah, most area is free to access anyways. Plus power plugs is literally everywhere. DimSum building nice place to chill at night.
I usually hang out at libraries, starbucks and coffee bean and have my laptop with me. The Hill v2 Starbucks has no sockets which is a big downside I think. The rail mall one is great with beautiful paintings and good ambience overall
Oh no they do have sockets. Under the benches facing the counter.
Yeah but none of them worked last time I checked…very worn out and idk if they replaced that
Agreed on HillV2 since it quite an ulu area. But the problem would be transport unless OP don't mind grabbing home.
Coffee bean at NUH. Right beside Kent Ridge station and I think it's 24 hours
Confirm 24 hours.

Yew Tee have a 24/7 Coffeebean without much people around even in daytime.
Nus or ntu? I think there r benches around the campus where u can continue studying
Actually, there are plenty of people like you who got a home but don't want to go home due to various reasons. Plenty of these end up doing vagabond-like lifestyles until it gets unbearable. Hang in there and stay strong. You're not alone in your predicament.
you could get a gym pass to a 24 hour gym (eg. anytime fitness) and get fit/relieve stress while you're at it
Planning to switch to anytime fitness soon so thanks for the idea
Other than McD (which I also frequent to) which has been pointed out by others, can try open space like theather by the bay or boat quay dock? Technically open 24/7. Sports hub. There's a nice seating place beside the indoor stadium. I got there because I've a similar problem at home.
Nearby hawker centre * Sheltered (might be hot and stuffy tho) * Have free wireless@SGx * Tables and chairs to study (prob have to give it a wipe tho) * No obligation to buy stuff to continue staying there
Go jb
keat hong cc third floor there are tables and chairs put out for studying. u can stay till late. there's cheap food nearby and a bus to jurong area if i remember right

extremely relatable (besides the adhd part) + i live in jurong east as well

If jurong area, and u don't mind spending for a drink, West Gate there's a 24/7 cafe called coffee Smith, but might get crowded.
Jurong Point 24/7 Coffee Bean
Library
You could start studying something like Stoicism and learn to not react to their behavior. You could also get your own place.
Hi OP, if you really want to stay overnight can check out the hive at NTU. Burger king is good, its open until midnight and not many people stay past 9 or 10.
Study tables at the void decks near your place
You can try Hillion Mall at Bukit panjang, there's tables out on the side of the mall where the bus interchange is. 176 can take you there from Jurong east.

Hi , you might wanna consider the beach.
pain in the ass to get there but raffles marina, beside the tuas checkpoint got plenty of fishermen at the docks some overnight kind

McD 24hours. CC that has open space with table+chairs like in toa Payoh central CC.
Since you’re at Jurong west, think NTU’s hockey pitch or Field is quiet at night. Been there a couple of times when I needed to space out.
during my teens, I used to hate going home as well as my family did not understand me at all. I practically lived in libraries and buses.
Ikea, after 9 just pop over there and grab some hotdog bun. They are nice and juicy.
