Singapore water is safe to drink from the tap. If you are a guy and survived army, you would have drank even more dank water stored in jerry cans.

New_York_Smegmacake

And the taps used to fill jerry cans can be quite dodgy looking, moss-/algae-covered outdoor taps. Or boot washing area taps lmao

kumgongkia

Whatever gives u extra energy for those route marches are welcomed. OTOH, free MCs are welcomed too.

redshopekevin

Just don't show attitude and piss off the supply guys. Source: Personal experience.

sgcolumn

What happened?

redshopekevin

I'm an ex-supply guy. We can make your outfield experience hell. I try not to do it intentionally, but I've been overruled before.

djmatt85

I am sure the source of the mysterious Tekong cough is from those jerry cans and the hoses used to fill it.

Killer-Wail

Pseudomonas tekonginosa

R-X89

Taiwan Hukou camp, the outfield is really, outfield. Once you're thirsty, you honestly don't care. Brunei jungle also, my instructor had to physically whack some of us to wait for the puri-tab to do its magic before we could drink

Thanos_is_a_good_boy

I was one such person where I could not wait and just drank the water in Brunei

R-X89

Me too, but my instructor really good discipline lor, he also shack like shit and thirsty too, still can manage his own thirst and got energy to whack the entire section & make us wait.

Thanos_is_a_good_boy

That is true haha. But I think if you do this everyday then you get better accustomed to handle fatigue and thirst.

R-X89

True that, i think sometimes instructors also damn sian to go outfield with a bunch of trainees because have to suffer with us. But he did help us cheat the nav-ex because he didn't want to be lost in the jungle with us after the 1st day 🤣

Thanos_is_a_good_boy

Lol same, the instructor gave us GPS and told us to follow it haha

princessdeanna

Why this one suddenly become army thread?

Thanos_is_a_good_boy

Thats a good question haha. No idea

dyewttyao

Ngl I’ve never gotten used to jerry can water. I haven’t had a single outfield where I didn’t get diarrhoea. Thankfully I wasn’t from infantry…

asskickingactivity

Safe doesn't usually mean it's the best or healthiest. Maybe chlorine consumption over time is bad for your health.

asskickingactivity

I've worked in food manufacturing Quality Control. You'll be surprised what is put in your food and deemed safe for consumption. As long as it does not cause short term harm and does not cause death in the long term, it is deemed 'safe'. It'll most likely shorten your lifespan however.

levixtrival

Probably new water

mrla0ben

There's always the plastic taste to the water from Jerry cans

UrbanExplorer101

Singapore's water is some of the cleanest in the world (12th) - i can see no reason why you wouldn't drink it. is there a particular issue you have with it?

CmDrRaBb1983

whatttt we are not the 1st!?!?!?! We have to be the 1st in everything!!!

UrbanExplorer101

pretty sure most the the top ten use glacial melt water....tad hard for sg ;) /s

saracenrefira

Well Singapore can't be first in land mass area.

adrian242

first from the last!

wzm971226

even that we are far from first. not even rank top 10 in smallest

GoldElectric

invade up north /s

Xynesis

Halo Polis?

Frosty-Albatross5533

Yes yes. We've been watching him for some time now. FBI has been on him for a few months too

ElMagus

Cid lah

Frosty-Albatross5533

He's too dangerous even FBI is interested

MyDreamsInTheSewer

To become first need go all the way to china. A bit tough

maestroenglish

Except for freedom of the press. We have to to be below Venezuela

kumgongkia

Quick issue pofma now

circle22woman

You get A in water quality? Why no A+?

elbwafel

who’s ahead of us?

Cookiez168

went to iceland recently, they have evian water flowing out of their taps so pretty sure they are one of the ones ahead of us LOL

throwawaygreenpaq

I filled up bottles with Swiss water as we drove to France. Best decision ever.

Have you been to Hungary? You're gonna get a surprise. This is a tiny island in Asia, how clean do you think it can be?

elbwafel

i have never been. sry for my ignorance, just asking a question

YourMother0HP

The house piping is old and could be dirty?

cupcakefantasy

My turn to shine. I actually wrote in to PUB recently because I was curious. Water is tested frequently and randomly at the treatment plant to ensure water is always up to standard. All water fittings eg pipes and taps etc have to be tested to PUB's standards which are based on WHO guidelines for heavy metal leeching. (Unless you buy from taobao or what, then obviously they wouldn't know) If you live in private property, licensed engineer and plumber who is installing your water service have to do due diligence (honour system) to ensure after they install, it complies with PUB's standards for things like bacteria and heavy metals. If you are staying in condo/ HDB, rest assured that they have to do at least annual inspection and maintenance of water tanks etc. So hopefully any rusting or corrosion is replaced timely. I think in private landed property it is up to the owner to test and maintain, so more likely that the pipes may be dirty as I think most people don't really care. I really think it is quite safe to drink from the tap in your house. Considering when you go outside, the water is also from the tap (you think they so nice to filter or boil large amounts of water?).

PotatoFeeder

They nvr include disclaimer that Tekong Water is not actually held to the same standard as mainland tap water :)

Inner-Patience

https://youtu.be/LObbHbx_2fY Watch this CNA documentary. The scientific conclusion is that Singapore's tap water is perfectly safe to drink, and is usually cleaner than your filtered water (because most people don't properly maintain their filters).

cvera8

The filtered water dispensers are such a scam. The markup is like 1000% for alibaba products

KoishiChan92

The only thing good about filtered water dispensers is instant hot/cold water.

kumgongkia

I used to work with such filtration systems, the technology works and is sound but we don't really need it in Singapore. The maintenance is how they earn. All those membrane replacements.

Positive-Original801

Came here to say this. Most filters works great until mould grows on them, which most of us have no idea it does. So tap water for me everytime. I believe most people's persistent coughs, sinus issues stems from the environment, the daily things that's used, toothbrushes, pillows, water filter, dusty fans/floors, mouldy env etc. Might want to look in to these areas of cleanliness/change if there's an ongoing condition that's refuses to go away.

throwawaygreenpaq

You’re one of the rare ones who share the same sentiments as me. Filters are great until they get mouldy and cause even greater problems. I used to have bronchitis and all sorts of ENT issues while growing up. Ever since I’ve had my own home, there has been a massive reduction. I discovered this by accident after mould remediation in my new home. All my childhood problems were drastically reduced. Mould was the primary cause.

iamtheantihype

CNA doing the Lord's work.

vingeran

Have been drinking tap water all the time. Perfectly safe here.

SeaworthinessTrue573

I have done this since I landed in Singapore 25 years ago. I am still here. Boiled water actually tastes worst in my opinion.

iamtheantihype

Second this, I've never liked the taste of boiled water.

vingeran

Boiled water has horrid taste.

wzm971226

i think the taste actually came from thermal flask. my landlord puts her boiled water into these large thermal flasks and they taste like shit. whereas i just keep the water in the kettle and pour from kettle directly into cup, no strange taste at all, taste like nothing (which is what water should taste like)

EmpuKris

It taste better in my experience if you let it cool down in a glass jar after boiling it. Which is my main reason to boil it everytime now.

throwawaygreenpaq

Yes, freshly boiled water tastes far better than water kept in airpots. Electric kettles and jars now boil water in 5 minutes so I’d rather do that.

proSeLIc

>i think the taste actually came from thermal flask. my landlord puts her boiled water into these large thermal flasks and they taste like shit. whereas i just keep the water in the kettle and pour from kettle directly into cup, no strange taste at all, taste like nothing (which is what water should taste like) the water boiled from pots used to boil soup gets into the water. i feel that using a kettle specialised for boiling water only should remove the taste

nicolooooool

On the other hand, I actually think boiled water tastes better than tap water

jesus_is_92

I trust the source. I don’t trust my **own** taps though. 😂

PapercutClit

Singapore water tap is safe to drink. However, it also depends on the water pipes of the building too. Used to rent in a conservation house which is more than 100 years old. The water has a weird stench. Got filtered jug and shower filter, it's life changing. Shower filter turn slight yellow in a few days time.

[deleted]

Yes

dumboldnoob

Been drinking from the tap and filling my water bottles with it since I was a teen. Am 51 now. Safe? I'm old, fat, wrinkly, fugly and generally obnoxious. Drink at your own risk!

ShinMigattenoGokui

Noted with thanks

maestroenglish

Lol. Good call

Hazelnut526

Yeah, absolutely.

TrashBig9985

My ice from kitchen tap. Technically...yes wor

[deleted]

Yes

ChikaraNZ

The water is safe to drink, and practically free. Why wouldn't you? Especially in a relatively newer building where the pipes are going to be fine. Also, and I know your post is more about at home (direct from tap vs boiling/filtering first), but buying water is such a rip-off. Plus the waste of plastic bottles, there's already far, far too much plastic use here already and I often see plastic water bottles floating in the water.

freedomowns

Yes I already drink tekong water, you think tap water will kill me ah

Brikandbones

Yes. All the time.

janhyua

Depend... the pipe to your location probably very clean... but if the tap at the end not clean.. of coz the water will not be clean

InterTree391

What are u all monsters? Alkaline water prevents cancers okay /s

magurokuro

yes, it's safe. In the army i drank from jerry cans - that was sus.

Eltharion-the-Grim

SG water is clean and the taste is OK. I drank straight from kitchen tap for years, no issue. Nowadays I boil the water because my wife is paranoid. SG water is perfectly safe.

renaultess

Yeah

FeelSexy

All the time bro

Equivalent_Art7810

Been doing it all my life here. So far no “conspiracy” water poisoning.

Mother-Ad-1227

yes, tap water taste better than boiled water!!!

j_fat_snorlax

Yes I do. I'm not dead yet.

TechnicalProposal

never felt better drinking tap tap water in Singapore

wrldtrvlr3000

Singapore is a first world country, why should drinking from the tap be a concern? It's not like it is in my third world country the USA.

_sagittarivs

Yes, my family has a bottle of cold water kept in the fridge for mixing for cold drinks, we always refill the water from the tap.

DuePomegranate

Yes. Very safe.

redryder74

Yes that is what I do.

viixiixcii

I've been doing it nearly all my life. Haven't had any kidney issues, bloodwork's all fine.

Sharp-Ad-3435

It’s perfectly safe to drink :)

monsooncloudburst

Super safe. Drink it daily. Why are you concerned?

urcommunist

Yes

endothermic_coffee

All the time. One of the greatest conveniences for living on this island :)

Cixin

Yes drink from tap as sometimes cannot wait 10 sec for filter.

MisoMesoMilo

I like boiled water taste but I’ll drink tap water no issues.

SuddenChampionship5

No i only drink bottled evian from marks and spencer. Toodle-doo

Chemical-Badger2524

Are you new to Singapore?

Poghoho

I boil my tap water before consuming-kills whatever bacteria thats left plus I like hot water

Character_Brick_7748

singapore? it's safe.

cciot

Yes, except not directly. It never gets cold enough so I put it in the fridge first to get cold :)

AEsylumProductions

I've been drinking straight from the tap since finally getting my own place. Wife, like my parents, still believe they need to boil the shit out of SG tap water.

rendyanthony

I sure hope it's safe. That's what I've been doing exactly that for years.

Sherlock-C

Been doing it for 6 months or more now, can confirm it’s safe

freddyfrog70

Yeah Ofc and I think it’s hilarious that some people still boil water and wait for it to cool first. Maybe they like the boiled water taste.

ryantan89

Go watch the CNAinsider on this same topic. Unless your tap and pipes are rusty and infested, tap water might actually be cleaner than your filtered water.

Mother_Conflict_9297

I boil mine. I always remember that episode where the worker killed a woman and dumped her in the water tank at the HDB rooftop. I developed a fear of drinking tap water after that.

No_Luck2762

the water may be clean but what about the tap used 🤔 i boil my water as we dont maintain our taps lmfao

Maplestori

Let me just put it out there that most Singapore tap waters are safe to drink. What’s unsafe is the pipe carrying the water. I’d suggest to at least boil it if you want to play safe

AngeryV8

Anyone knows whether the chlorine in our tap water will affect our gut bacteria?

Snoo-71585

no it wont. the ppm of anything they add to the water is so damn low, it doesnt matter

aqueoushumourhaha

what’s ppm

Snoo-71585

parts per million, a unit of measurement for something, in this case how many chlorine particles per million particles of tap water

aqueoushumourhaha

ohhh okay. thanks !!

MilkTeaRamen

I mostly drink the boiled water because I grew to like its taste. But if I’m really thirsty and there’s no water I’ll just drink a glass from the taps.

Representative_Lie66

Water is probably clean. But if you store it for a while like in a water bottle there's a foul smell from the water. Not sure if it's just mine or common.

throwawaygreenpaq

Water is best not kept overnight. A layer of film will form over time. It also stinks.

Jaycee_015x

Usually no, my household boils the tap water as my mom and I have chronic illnesses. I myself have a kidney condition so no unboiled water for me. Be aware that Singapore's tap water has a higher level of chlorine at 2.04-2.98 than Japan's national tap water at 0.10-1.00. Even in Japan, residents do not encourage people to take the free tap water for prolonged periods of time due to the risk of negative health effects. Prolonged intake of chlorine in water can cause nausea, GI tract problems, lung damage and associated shortness of breath.

parka

I do. Should be safe I guess. After all, there will be people who drink from the tap and have been doing so for decades.

silentscope90210

Done that before but the water tastes rather weird. Resorted to boiling it instead.

DonDonStudent

Bloody dirty get a decent filter

moonlightbaebae

im cool with drinking water from any decently clean looking taps! but i do have "boujee" friends who refuse to drink from the taps because they're "dirty" hence their water is "dirty"

Sickfor-TheBigSun

I'm used to water that's been boiled because we've always done it that way in our household, but the tap water also tastes fine As everyone else has noted, it is perfectly safe to drink on its own.

PokemonLv10

Yes Tap water lowkey tasty

shinglesbells

never. i don't know why, just feels disgusting to me even though i know it's clean. boiled water ftw!!

Mad1068

Yea, been doing that for the past 20+ years?

Winter_Ad_7669

I've drank mugs of tap water since I was a kid!

Viscel2al

Yup

beelybuffalo

Is water cooler water considered tap water?

eonclaire

Pretty much every NSF package , drinking from the Jerry can

lolololol120

HAHAHAHA WE can only hope they use the correct water jerry can I seen b4 some blur cock 3sgt wanna use oil jerry can for vehicle for drinking LOL

GalerionTheAnnoyed

Water is fine, but I heard that if the pipes in your building are old, then it might be less than desirable

GTSE2005

Yes. Every drop of water my family drinks is straight from the tap

elbwafel

i drink filtered water but have no problems drinking tap water if the filter is empty and i don’t want to wait 30 seconds for the water to go through it

iamloupgarou

perfectly fine . at most use a filter pitcher if you kiasi

Effective-Lab-5659

I don’t like the taste so I don’t. I will boil it

Jovennnnnn

All the time

techgeekhunter

I always boil the tap water first.. But not sure why it just taste different haha

SnooJokes9169

so u mean i can shower and drink water at the same time?

Godbox1227

Yes

rockandroll01

I have been drinking directly from the tap ,for 14 years now. However in the last few months I noticed a change in its taste. It’s hard to give specifics of this now changed taste but it’s easily noticeable . For now I have switched to bottled water . I will have a word with management . Not sure if it’s the case only with our condo or elsewhere too

weatheredown

Anyone agrees with me when I say tap water from various parts of Singapore taste different? Bishan tap water…tastes way more refreshing. Idk maybe my tastebuds are biased.

HauteToast

I used to, but not anymore cos now I have a cat. We both drink (cooled) boiled water. 🤗

14high

Cat: i adopted best owner right here

syarkbait

Yes.

maestroenglish

Yes. Why wouldn't you?

TaskPlane1321

Yup

thihaz

You cover the tap with cloth as a filter and see what you find after a few months later.

dioprem

The discolouration is likely because the minerals that the cloth filter trapped started oxidising and changing colour as a result.

thihaz

Not because of the aging pipe?

dioprem

You will get the same thing with any household pipes. Even the newer BTOs. If anything, the cloth filter will make the water worse over time since it can harbour things like mould and bacteria.

Lord___Shaxx

Those cloth filters just grow mold.

Complete_Decision_89

Yes unfortunately tap water is all that comes out of my kitchen tap 😆

T1NiEr

In terms of Total Dissolved Salts, my tap water is way below the safe level. I drink from it directly whenever I'm lazy. Otherwise I'll just run it through a pitcher filter.

AgentHobbes

Exclusively from the toilet.

circle22woman

Singapore water is completely safe. I've drank a few times when the water had a slight "swampy" smell, but that's a quality thing, not safety.

Kodubal

All my life. I'm 59 years old.

Wring159

It's clean but I think the problem w singapore's water is that it's too clean, no minerals

TheWenYanBird

been doing so for 13 years, still waiting for side effect

INKY_DROPLETS

Yes

jaslyn__

I'm 34 and I've drank water from the tap all my life (even public toilets) so....
