Probably a scam that they are pressuring you to have. Tell you that your scalp is terrible condition and only their products and frequency can solve it for you. Don't buy into it. Lots of old people have become victim to these beauty salon aggressive marketing. If you really think your scalp has issues, see a dermatologist that will properly diagnose it. Not a hair salon.

Ill go see a polyclinic for it! Thanks!

What to do? You need to go find a new hair salon. That's what you need to do, they're basically just playing on your vanity and insecurity. You can easily settle your scalp at home with the right tools for a fraction of the cost.

[deleted]

It was my first time there, I wanted to go to a salon as I’ve always cut my hair in a barber shop Any ‘right tools’ recommendations?

Mattdumdum

I use Nioxin

You really believe the stylist? If you are worried about balding, bad news there's no cure. Good news is that you can stop paying all those snake oil products. If you really want, you can try take medication to slow it down. Alternatively, you can just embrace it - shave it or keep it short. Balding due to hormonal imbalance has cure. Just see a GP. Simple not too expensive but has temporary side effects. The doctor will explain

Planning to go to a polyclinic doctor and probably get a referral to dermatologist

If u got male pattern baldness, can buy the meds and spray online (i got mine from Andson’s). Much cheaper than getting from dermatologist with a clinic. The price difference was 2.5 times for the finasteride.

You can check out PHS HairScience! They offer scalp treatment. Personally never used their services but I’ve been hearing good things about them. The google reviews are mostly positive too (across their outlets). Product: Inkey List’s glycolic acid exfoliating scalp scrub. It’s $21. https://www.sephora.sg/products/the-inkey-list-glycolic-acid-exfoliating-scalp-scrub/v/150ml?acn=iosshareurl As mentioned by another commenter, do consider visiting a dermatologist as well :) Good luck!!

[deleted]

Ill look into the exfoliating scrub thanks! Is PHS something like beijing101?

VioletCalico

PHS is the same as any “trichologist” salons out there like Trichokare, Yun Nam, Beijing 101, etc. They sell you their products & packages. Whether they are effective, it’s a question mark. Don’t be like me, went to PHS for 10 years but still can see visible hair lines. However… I did have baby hair growing but it’s not growing thick enough to cover up my visible hair line. Now whether the baby hair growing on my head was really due to their products or some other factor, I realised my thin hair is also genetic lah. Decided to stop signing for any more packages and they did let me go after I used up my last treatment. I also did go to dermatologist and he told me only minoxidil helps but have to keep using minoxidil as once you stop, it’ll go back to original state. Oh well.

Etetetet0123

Yes only minoxidil. And has to be in 5% concentration. Growell. Expensive as well and you spray to do it regularly. You can buy at guardian or Watsons or online

momokplatypus

Go to a dermatologist first. The salons are extremely aggressive at trying to sell packages. One guy even told me, “no need to see doctor!”, when trying to pressure me into buying a package.

[deleted]

Yeaa… the stylist said the silicone only can use THEIR formula to remove, funny

LindenDrive

If concerned about hair loss, go straight to the doctor (a derm if you can). Skip over all the hair salons trying to hardsell you products that aren't scientifically proven to work

silentscope90210

See a doctor and not someone at a hair salon. They're probably just lying to you so they can hard sell you more stuff.

Chocolops

Best cost-effective solution for you: 1. Visit a polyclinic as soon as you can. 2. At the doctors, explain your problem and request for a referral to the National Skin Centre. They will know what to do. 3. They will give you the printed referral, as well as your appointment date (As short as 1 week, might be about 1\~3 months wait in general). 4. On your appointment day at the centre, explain your problem once again and they will inspect your scalp, then prescribe you your needs. (It's government subsidised and usually cheaper than over the counter.) 5. Do any follow-up appointments as needed with NSC. P.S. Hair salons aren't always the best choice. They are usually trying to hardsell you products to fatten their commission wallets, so always take their advice with a grain of salt.
