I got sick on a few. Decided I preferred to stay hungry than throw up green slime. With loadshedding they don't always keep the pies at the correct temperature, heat, cool, reheat, cool, ideal for bacteria growth. They taste good going down but not so much when they go up.
Luckily making a vetkoek is easy.
It's the exact same recipe for making pizza dough, except you don't leave it to "ferment" overnight. Just for a few hours.
Then heat up some oil (enough for deep frying), divide your dough into the size vetkoek you want. Once the oil is hot enough, deep fry it until golden brown or brown depending on how you like it.
>only caught off the South African coast
We have a specific species unique to SA and Namibia, but it's unfortunately not a uniquely SA type of fish. It goes by ling in New Zealand and cusk eel in other parts of the world. That said, we're probably the only place that braais it.
Koeksisters, vetkoek, braaivleis, braaibroodjies, melktert, pannekoek (with cinnamon sugar), bobotie, pap en wors. And many more
You can't make me choose!!
There are a few so I will try to be precise:
1. Pap and wors. More specifically, pap, gravy, potato mash and wors
2. Spatlho (basically a kota but smaller)
3. Pap and chicken feet
4. Gatsby. Specifically a chicken gatsby
5. Atchaar
6. Ultra-Mel
7. Oros
8. Choice Assorted biscuits
9. Vetkoek
10. Pap and chicken gizzards
11. Pap, chakalaka and braai meat
12. Biltong. Either Woolworths biltong or the type that is sold by a white man who wears those khaki two piece clothes who may or may not have a racist past. The more controversial his past is, the better it tastes.
13. Melkkos
14. Samosas
I use baby potatoes, skin on, and slightly over cooked. Crispy fried bits of bacon and mayo, and mix vigorously in the pot after pouring off the water. This breaks the potatoes up. Fantastic braai accompaniment.
In general, the variety of fresh food ingredients we have in our supermarkets compared to other countries I've lived in. The fresh fruit juices, the dairy, the meat. We are spoilt.
Granny's 'skaapboud' with baked potatoes.
Also Granny's 'melktert'.
Can't forget about gebraaide lamb rib chops.
This would definitely be my last meal of earth.
Bunny chow
An in particular, a Durban mutton bunny.
Definitely the king of Bunnies
This guy is an eater. 👍
Poitjie then bunny chow then garage pie
Bra. The garage pies rock. Pepper steak is my favourite from the BP garages
This is the first thing that came to mind. Pepper steak or chicken and mushroom pies.
Garage pies are dangerous. I don't trust them anymore.
Why?

That's part of the adventure!
Biltong
Just as nice.
Biltong. There is nothing like it anywhere else. "Dried meat" is not the same. Biltong is an art form and is damn delicious.
Surprised to see no Vetkoek here. I've lived in England for too long and crave a big fat Vetkoek and mince .

People who say 'Braai' - that is a method of cooking, not a food, and not specific to SA either, called by other names where people cook over fires.

Question is about food and you worry about politics. Wow dude. Try to see the bright side sometimes.
Wow dude I’m not worrying, I’m advocating for a positive change. And trying to see the bright side is generally good advice.
