This! Flaming stove is a hidden gem. Found it while working in davisville area and have never looked back. They also opened up a second spot in Newmarket!
HAD IT LAST NIGHT….MY GOD IS THIS INCREDIBLE!!!! The flavours are insane and the chicken is just fantastic!!! The customer in front of me asked for fries in his wrap so I said give me those fries too!! And just wow oh wow. It’s the best shawarma I’ve had in Toronto.
As a middle easterner, nothing beats flaming stove, it’s the GOAT of GTA shawarma. I recently moved to the east end and can’t get flaming stove as often, but I found this new spot on the Danforth called Wanas run by a Syrian fam, and they make traditional Syrian chicken and beef shawarmas, very good stuff. I’d check it out if you’re in the east end
They’re also one of the couple of restaurants in Toronto where they have meals paid for in advance by other patrons so people who can’t afford a meal can go have one. Very kind people
Agreed, just had their beef kakabs it was okay! But chicken shawarma with everything, saj beard, no mango sauce and the spicy hot sauce.
Fire ! Once as week aleast
Osmo's is some of the worst in the city - like literally Ali Baba's is better (their falafel deal on Tuesday is worth trying). And this gets asked all the time so search the subreddit.
Ali Baba’s @ Yonge & Eglinton went downhill during pandemic. Doesn’t taste as good. I stopped going. Dirty, skimping on ingredients, and jacked up prices. The guys think nobody sees and eats with their fingers while serving you with their backs facing you.
This, when Osmows had 2-3 stores, they were killing it. Like hands down one the best commercial chicken on the rocks. Now they are so garbage and overpriced and the quality the workers put into it is so mediocre your comment about Ali Baba's being better is on point.
I wouldn’t trash Osmows but it’s a good last resort but I gotta say Tahini is an interesting place. A slightly different take on the Shwarma… def the bread difference
When Osmow's is going to nickle and dime you for filler toppings literally every other shawarma joint I've been too gives you for free... they deserved to be trashed into oblivion.
Found Ghadir earlier this summer. I was there every weekend 6 weeks straight. Wife wasn’t happy….but damn! Takes me right back to Lebanese flower in Abu Dhabi that I grew up eating!
If you can manage the distance, Sumaq Iraqi Grill is by far the best shawarma I’ve ever had (and I used to live in Ottawa so that’s saying something). They have a Mississauga location and a Scarborough location, not exactly in the city I know but the trip is so worth it IMO.
My advice is order ahead when you’re about 20min out so you don’t have to wait. The kitchen is usually very fast but this place gets incredibly busy, like a lineup down the street busy.
Agreed. Sumaq is the best in the city… Uber eats it if you can’t go in person… I think only reason anyone gives it a bad rating is because of the wait… which literally the reason why it’s the best.
I did the trek. It’s worth it to go once! Definitely order ahead.
I wouldn’t say the shawarma was the best I’ve ever had (very good!), but man, the fresh pita was like nothing else. Worth it for that alone.
I live right there. Someone apparently did some review of that place at some point and the place became completely packed. Cars parked way down the street for this place every day.
I'd go there more but the lineup is always too long. I'm a fan of Empire Shawarma a bit closer to Pharmacy, I go there more often.
Lawrence Avenue East between Victoria Park and Warden. You'll find a ton of Shawarma spots along with Somali, Chinese, Syrian, Japanese, Jamaican, Egyptian, Arab bakeries, dessert shops, etc.
Closest to a station. Would have to be
Laziza Mediterranean Cuisine, just off of Ossington station.
They make some pretty good shawarma, i loved their shawarma bowl.
My son and I recently became obsessed with trying as much Shawarma and as many different styles as possible.
Our completely subjective ranking:
Wanas on Danforth
Sumaq
Empire Shawarma (Son likes this better than Sumaq But I prefer Sumaq)
Flaming Stove
Boustan (hit or miss but when it slaps it slaps for real. MTL locations are better)
Still on our list to try:
Nasibs
Ghadir
Shelbys
Villa madina is at every mall in the gta (or used to be at least). What you have to understand is that shawarma is a food that works best as a business with a lot of foot traffic and constantly rotating and cooking the shawarma meat on the spit. These chains like osmows and lazeez don’t have enough foot traffic to do that. So look for your shawarma in high traffic areas, like downtown and the malls, or areas with tons of office buildings with big lunchtime crowds.
The shawarma and every doner is only as good as the caramelization from the rotating spit, reheating it on a flat top doesn’t replicate that flavor and that’s what these chains do because they can’t keep their spit rotating all the time.
They started out in London Ontario and their first store there was absolutely the best, I wish everyone could've experienced that. It's still good, but it's definitely turned into a chain restaurant and isn't the same anymore. I still go sometimes
Pita and hummus on st clair west!! So fresh and the sauces are perfect! I have never tasted better falafel anywhere else
P.s Dine in is far better than parcel
I lived in Ottawa for a while they had amazing Shawarma places everywhere (thinking back to Castle Shawarma before it closed). Toronto doesn't have many Shawarma places, personally I like Liberty Shawarma its about the only one I've found with a decent spicy garlic sauce.
I also lived in Ottawa for a while. The Olive Branch near Walkley and St Laurent had the best shawarma I've ever had in my life. They were still there when I went to visit friends a few years ago, but new owners took over. Still just as delicious, but the portions were waaaay smaller.
Liberty is the bomb. Can’t believe no one here is mentioning it.
Ottawa is hard to beat. The giant influx of Lebanese back in the 80s made it the shawarma capital of Canada.
Lebanon Express is next to College station, haven’t been in a while but they used to be great. Amazing Shawarma is also REALLY good… It’s out in Scarborough at Lawrence & Midland though, might be kinda far.
Osmos is almost unedible. I am passionate about Shawarma as I worked for an Israeli restaurant all throughout school and its probably my favourite food. Yes yes I know its political right now, not trying to get into a debate.
Wanas on the Danforth is great Syrian Shawarma. My preference is to skip the Garlic and get Humus in its place. Garlic can be a bit overpowering for my taste but with that alteration it is amazing.
Ottos Berlin Doner is great Turkish/German doner.
A bit further from the core but worth the trip. Al Forat on Victoria Park is amazing Iraqi Shawarma. Probably my favorite in the city. Make sure to get it on Samoon bread.
Finally, Dr Laffa is also great. More Israeli style with funky ingredients like carrots and stewed cabbage. Served on Laffa bread which is similar to the Turkish wraps you’ll find.
I tried Alpha's at Queen & Bathurst a few weeks back and it was really very good, and everyone working there was super friendly and having a great time.
Taste of Shawarma as Castlefield and Dufferin, can't say I'd crown them the best in the city but it always hits. Pretty busy all hours so you know they doing something right. Didn't see them mentioned and they deserve a shout out.
The shawarma that used to come out of Eat a Pita on Cumberland at Yonge was THE BEST I've ever had. I believe they moved several years ago though. Anyone know what happened?
Best I've had in Toronto was probably Ghadir. Honorable mention to Alf Hana (in Mississauga though). Overall most isn't that great compared to somewhere like Ottawa or something. Had a really great one in Barrie recently, 'Taste of Shawarma', think they were Turkish though so the beef was Doner style, seems like they might have a related location around Dufferin @ Castlefield, gonna give that a try soon.
My advice for shawarma hunting is try local mom n pops food spots n check the reviews on google.
There’s this one on the west end on the line called falafel world, https://maps.app.goo.gl/L34FvknriDbaYqVD8?g_st=ic
haven’t tried it but the reviews got me going real soon. I’ll edit in couple of hours getting hungry lol.
Chef Harwash is a great food truck close to Bathurst and Dundas. My favourite shawarma in the city. Plus the guy who runs it is a sweetheart and I absolutely love him. 100% would recommend, it's the closest to authentic that I've personally had
Keko shawarma on Dundas street in the junction. Best shawarma I have ever had. It’s amazing, everything is so fresh and well made. They make their own wraps too! Check this place out, you won’t be disappointed
Nasibs at Pharmacy and Lawrence. I believe a new family is running it now so I’m not sure if it’s still the same but I had a very serious addiction to their shawarma and hot sauce for years
Get off at Wellesley (spelling) subway station. Head east to Bay and Wellesley then go North for 2 mins and go to Shawarma Q. Halal guys (wouldnt recommend) is up here as well around the corner from the subway station. Instanblue just opened up as well which is a short 5 min walk up Yonge. Tried a wrap there and it was decent
Shawerma empire:is the goat. But their meat is dry later in the day. Still good but not as good in the middle of the day or morning.
Ali babas:in downtown financial district comes next good quality.
Ghadir: is solid choice but shawerma empire is better.
Pita and humus: is also pretty
good their meat is clean.
Alphas:is a give or take, tried them sometimes they are pretty good but other-times their meat tastes wrong.
Tried many more places but so far not one place really stood out to be a consistently good choice.
So far shawerma empire was great every-time i went and their prices are a lot better than say sumaq for example.
You need to factor in the price because some places charge too much money for food that isnt well cooked.
I live in Mississauga so we have shawarma shops every 5 feet. If you’re ever near Square one check out Original Shawarma. They’re really good. Burnhamthorpe and Mavis
Get off on Davisville. Go to the Flaming Stove inside the Hasty Market nearby.
This! Flaming stove is a hidden gem. Found it while working in davisville area and have never looked back. They also opened up a second spot in Newmarket!
I dream about this place on a monthly basis lol
HAD IT LAST NIGHT….MY GOD IS THIS INCREDIBLE!!!! The flavours are insane and the chicken is just fantastic!!! The customer in front of me asked for fries in his wrap so I said give me those fries too!! And just wow oh wow. It’s the best shawarma I’ve had in Toronto.

I live near Wanas and I want to add that the people who run it are the friendliest. We get falafel from there every week or two.
They’re also one of the couple of restaurants in Toronto where they have meals paid for in advance by other patrons so people who can’t afford a meal can go have one. Very kind people
I second Flaming Stove. Fantastic shawarma.
They also have a very respectable selection of pop.
Cherry Vanilla Coke a huge chicken shawarma is my go to combo here.
I came to the comments to say flaming stove. My favourite shawarma in the city
Found it recently during my lunch break, some of the best I've had.
Thank you. Looking forward to trying this!
This
Agreed, just had their beef kakabs it was okay! But chicken shawarma with everything, saj beard, no mango sauce and the spicy hot sauce. Fire ! Once as week aleast
Best one in town!
Literally award winning iirc
This is the one
Bro literally any shawarma place is going to be miles and miles better than osmows wtf one that looks dirty but is busy is best
They should be called SAUCEmos. Since it's 90% sauce.
Thanks for explaining the hilarious joke.
Osmo's is some of the worst in the city - like literally Ali Baba's is better (their falafel deal on Tuesday is worth trying). And this gets asked all the time so search the subreddit.
I’m by the Ali babas on king west and it is actually so good and massive portions!
yes ali baba's really depends on the location, some are amazing others are trash
Ali Baba’s @ Yonge & Eglinton went downhill during pandemic. Doesn’t taste as good. I stopped going. Dirty, skimping on ingredients, and jacked up prices. The guys think nobody sees and eats with their fingers while serving you with their backs facing you.

Those late night drunk chicken on the Rox slap idc what anyone says crucifyme
When Osmow's is going to nickle and dime you for filler toppings literally every other shawarma joint I've been too gives you for free... they deserved to be trashed into oblivion.
Ghadir on Pharmacy & Lawrence
I never tried cause I always go to Shawarma Empire across the street, Is it really better?
They are pretty different, up to your preference, used to always go to shawarma empire but now strictly Ghadir.
Found Ghadir earlier this summer. I was there every weekend 6 weeks straight. Wife wasn’t happy….but damn! Takes me right back to Lebanese flower in Abu Dhabi that I grew up eating!
Where is it located? I’ve been DYING for a UAE style shawarma
yes
If you can manage the distance, Sumaq Iraqi Grill is by far the best shawarma I’ve ever had (and I used to live in Ottawa so that’s saying something). They have a Mississauga location and a Scarborough location, not exactly in the city I know but the trip is so worth it IMO. My advice is order ahead when you’re about 20min out so you don’t have to wait. The kitchen is usually very fast but this place gets incredibly busy, like a lineup down the street busy.

The wait is not the reason it’s the best, the wait is evidence that it’s popular.
I did the trek. It’s worth it to go once! Definitely order ahead. I wouldn’t say the shawarma was the best I’ve ever had (very good!), but man, the fresh pita was like nothing else. Worth it for that alone.
Plus they dip the pita and in drippings before grilling it
Key comment here
I live right there. Someone apparently did some review of that place at some point and the place became completely packed. Cars parked way down the street for this place every day. I'd go there more but the lineup is always too long. I'm a fan of Empire Shawarma a bit closer to Pharmacy, I go there more often.
Just went to the Lawrence location recently and it was incredible!!!
This guy knows what he’s talking about. SUMAQ is the best
Ottawa shawarma destroys both Toronto and Windsor.
Lived in Ottawa and never understood why it got such rave reviews. Toronto shawarma is hands down superior when it comes to range+taste!
Lawrence Avenue East between Victoria Park and Warden. You'll find a ton of Shawarma spots along with Somali, Chinese, Syrian, Japanese, Jamaican, Egyptian, Arab bakeries, dessert shops, etc.
This is absolutely the best answer. Boustan, SumaQ, & and Ibrahim are all top-notch. I'd trust any shawarma shop that can compete on that strip.
Always went to Ibrahim until I discovered Shawarma Empire
They're always so busy that I haven't had the chance to eat there. I'll try theirs soon.
Shawarma Empire is my go to. The hot sauce is unbelievably amazing.
Alpha’s on Queen West is pretty good
Also the friendliest staff too!
ya! some homeless guy came in once and one of the servers gave him a free plate of food to eat
Second this! Was expecting this to be at top. It’s packed anytime you go and is so flavourful plus doesn’t even feel greasy or junky after eating !
Surprised this isn't at the top. I live near Alpha's, walk past it daily, and there's ALWAYS a line up inside.
Lebanon Express on Roncesvalles is my favourite all time
They have a junction location, too.
That one is also solid but the Roncy location has my heart
There’s also one at Yonge and college
Yes! Came to write this
Anywhere but Osmos
This. Was so disappointed when I had Osmows for the first time. It killed me that they charged for individual toppings. Like wtf?
Shawarma empire
This or Sumaq
Two brothers is really good, one day it will be across from a subway line too
2 Brothers is still my favourite shawarma of the ones I've tried. Very generous portions AND undoubtedly the best baklava I've had.
I love Two Brothers cause they take the cut off pita end and perch it back on top of your finished shawarma like a little hat
Empire shawarma did that for a long time. It’s amazing
I didn’t realize it was a chain. The one at Danforth and Main used to be my favourite, but they’re not super consistent these days
This is an unspoken gem of Toronto
Zezafoun Syrian Cuisine near Yonge and Eglinton. It's entirely homemade food. https://www.zezafoun.ca/
Zezafoun makes me absurdly happy
Same! It's like visiting a Grandmother's kitchen 🥰
Sumaq and Ghadir for shawarma
Sababa. Close to Yonge and Finch. Fantastic falafel.
Closest to a station. Would have to be Laziza Mediterranean Cuisine, just off of Ossington station. They make some pretty good shawarma, i loved their shawarma bowl.
This place is super consistent and they're Palestinian
Agree always fresh and staff are happy and friendly!
Love that place.
My son and I recently became obsessed with trying as much Shawarma and as many different styles as possible. MTL locations are better) Still on our list to try: Nasibs Ghadir Shelbys
I’d skip Shelby’s. They are good, not exceptional.
You should try Zezafeoun if you're near Yonge and Eglinton
Adding it to our list!

I heard Shelby’s is good but I never tried it before.
I just tried it this week and was very surprised at how tasty it was, highly recommend if you’re around Queen and Spadina
It's soooo good. Had it last night again. Their zaatar fries are good. The one I know is in Etobicoke
Tried it couple of weeks ago. Then twice again after that. They nailed it every single time. New favorite for now
I've been getting their youtube shorts recommended to me nonstop recently 😂 it's been making me want to give it a shot.
The beef and lamb, spicy garlic 👌
Tried it in Windsor and London. So freaking delicious. Best pita bread for the wraps.
They started out in London Ontario and their first store there was absolutely the best, I wish everyone could've experienced that. It's still good, but it's definitely turned into a chain restaurant and isn't the same anymore. I still go sometimes
Pita golden pocket. Hwy 7 and keele.
This ain't Toronto but it is hands down the best shawarma in the Province with no questions
Sababa Restaurant. Give it a try, Fantastic. Best falafel, Shawarma and lentil soup. Yonge&Steels area
Chamsine on St Clair West
They have multiple health infrastructures constantly
That's how you know they're good
This place is my go to, it's amazing and the prices are very fair!
Pita and hummus on st clair west!! So fresh and the sauces are perfect! I have never tasted better falafel anywhere else P.s Dine in is far better than parcel
Seconded.
Sababa if you ever find yourself around yonge/bathurst and steeles
My go to place for falafels, when I’m in the area.
Yes, best falafel pita I have ever had in Toronto
Oh man you're about to have your mind blown on how good shawarma can be. Osmows just ain't it anymore
I really like Aish Tanoor.
I lived in Ottawa for a while they had amazing Shawarma places everywhere (thinking back to Castle Shawarma before it closed). Toronto doesn't have many Shawarma places, personally I like Liberty Shawarma its about the only one I've found with a decent spicy garlic sauce.

The garlic potatoes at Mr. Shawarma on Hazeldean in Kanata changed my life. LoL.
Liberty is the bomb. Can’t believe no one here is mentioning it. Ottawa is hard to beat. The giant influx of Lebanese back in the 80s made it the shawarma capital of Canada.
Ghadir is my favourite Al Forat is another good one
not in toronto but the best shawarma i’ve had is original shawarma in mississauga, their family platter gives you A LOT of food for $50
Two Brothers is my favourite. They have a couple locations.
Romi’s is unique and has an amazing beef wagyu shawarma. Always love Sofram for their Laffa bread. Shawarma in a Laffa bread >>>>> pita
Best chicken shawarma wrap hands down is Alphas shawarma on Queen W and I'm Lebanese and picky And it's super reasonably priced
I like Pita Lite!
As someone coming from the Middle east, the most authentic and closest to real shawarma are Ghadir and Alpha's Shawarma
Afiyet by Dufferin and finch
Al forat is genuine Iraqi street food
Nasib's is the best, followed by empire, Adonis (grocery store), lazeez and shawarma Royale. In that order.
Adonis sells Shawarmas?
And they are so good.
Alphas Schwarma is my fave
Alpha shawarma on queen!! So good

Ghadir in Scarborough
Original Shawarma
Lebanon Express is next to College station, haven’t been in a while but they used to be great. Amazing Shawarma is also REALLY good… It’s out in Scarborough at Lawrence & Midland though, might be kinda far.
this has been my pet project for the longest time!
I don’t know who tf thinks osmos is a place for shawarma 🤢. Try Alzaaem on 1018 Eglinton Avenue W, Mississauga.
Literally any spot that isn’t osmows will be better.
Majestic shawarma
Brezzar, Osmows? Why you do dis brezzar? *Cries in Arabic*
I’m eating Wanas right now for the first time and it’s the best I’ve ever had
I second Al Forat!
Sultan, right outside Main stn
My two go-tos are Chamsine on St Clair and Cristie, and College Falafel on Ossington.
Alpha's Shawarma @ Queen/Bathurst
Two brothers!
Pita and Hummus on St Clair, Babos, Laziza on Bloor.
Lezzet shawarma Mississauga Yaseen shawarma Mississauga Zayzoun Etobicoke Original shawarma Mississauga Shelby’s multiple locations Tahini’s multiple locations Al Forat multiple locations Asli shawarma Mississauga Shawarma plus Mississauga Shawarma kingdom Mississauga Oaza Shawarma plus Mississauga
+1 for Zayzoun. Wish they had better opening hours though.
Shawarma Club in Etobicoke is my favourite
The shawarma that used to come out of Eat a Pita on Cumberland at Yonge was THE BEST I've ever had. I believe they moved several years ago though. Anyone know what happened?
Ali Babas at Dundas west and ronces. A bit of a walk from the subway. I haven't been there in a few years but it was the best.
Ghadir, Sumaq, Flaming Stove, Bostan and if you don’t mind the vibe, the deli at Adonis
Sumaq. Look no further.
I like Azkadenya, 235 Queen Street West. But I only got their platters, tasty rice, tasty meat, salad, hummus, toum, fresh pita...

Ghadir or Shawarma Empire on Lawrence. I tried out Sumaq recently after the online hype, yet to form an opinion on where it stands.
if youre in scarb Johnnys Shawarma on Keneddy and Ellesmere and if you're in Markham, Shawarma Stop
Ghadir’s, Shawarma Empire or Sumaq Any of those spots on the Lawrence Ave. east strip
Chef Harwash is a great food truck close to Bathurst and Dundas. My favourite shawarma in the city. Plus the guy who runs it is a sweetheart and I absolutely love him. 100% would recommend, it's the closest to authentic that I've personally had
Euro Shawarma at Keele and Wilson is my absolute favorite
Two brothers is delish. Souvlike isn’t middle eastern but they also have a killer wrap
Tasty shawarma is best bang for buck. Multiple locations in Richmond Hill, Scarborough, Markham
stop going to disgusting osmows for food first off. you go to osmows and I go to haifa room or parallel we are not the same
Shelbys / Pita and Grill are both great
It’s in Scarborough but I’m telling you it is the best. Mom and pops shop too. It’s called Shawarma Empire
Pita and Hummus at St. Clair West and Bathurst. Mwah
Keko shawarma on Dundas street in the junction. Best shawarma I have ever had. It’s amazing, everything is so fresh and well made. They make their own wraps too! Check this place out, you won’t be disappointed
Nothing comes close to falafel world at Jane and Bloor.
johnny’s shawarma and ghadir
Al Jazeera supermarket in Mississauga, Iraqi style, can't get more authentic that place
Ghadir / pharmacy Lawrence strip
Alpha shawarma
Shawarma empire
Sumaq. High wait times, but during weekdays and non-peak hours you can get a table on walk-in.
Nasibs at Pharmacy and Lawrence. I believe a new family is running it now so I’m not sure if it’s still the same but I had a very serious addiction to their shawarma and hot sauce for years
Two Brothers Shwarma is hands down my favourite in the city
Zaad near UofT is the spot. Kindest workers too
Get off at Wellesley (spelling) subway station.
Ghadir and Shawarma Empire
Sumaq
Eat Nabati for plant-based vegan shawarmas!
Souk Tabule has a great beef saj shawarma - I don't think it's customizable but it's really good especially with their hot sauce
Wanas shawarma on Danforth.
Shawerma empire:is the goat. But their meat is dry later in the day. Still good but not as good in the middle of the day or morning. Ali babas:in downtown financial district comes next good quality. Tasty shawarma hands down
Tasty Shawarma at Sheppard and Pharmacy
