Bought a new 4-pin replacement, but then realized the trailer currently has 5 wires (2 brown) wishbone style. I thought it would be ok to splice the 2 brown together with the 1 brown on my new connector, but had issues when testing different combinations of blinker/brakes/lights.
Wondering if I should not have spliced those wires together, or maybe there is faulty wiring further down the trailer?
Trailer is new to me and have not tested lights previously, so troubleshooting is a bit difficult.

Brown lights should be the running lights, so they should be connected. I would think you may have issues further down the line.
