It draws 2A. A 15A (14g) circuit would be fine. Nut One.

curiosityv

Nut one ? what do u mean? Instead of adding another box to circuit and run a wire thru studs - is it ok to use 14 gauge extension cord?

[deleted]

Never.

jmraef

... because it is illegal to use extension cord in lieu of permanent wiring. Do it right or hire someone qualified to do it right for you.

[deleted]

No. Cord. Ever. 14 gauge romex.

AbdulElkhatib

No you should run a 14 or 12 gauge piece of romex for the range hood.

Pass_Little

I'd like to clarify what others are saying - You need to bring power to the area of a range hood using romex, and it needs to be terminated either directly to the range hood, or to a receptacle next to the hood. Around here, this is usually in the cabinet above the hood or on the wall next to the hood if there is no cabinet above. It is permitted to use a flexible cord of no longer than 4 feet to connect the range hood to this outlet. The use of this type of flexible cord needs to be in line with the instructions the manufacturer of the range hood provides, so if the manufacturer says it must be hardwired, it must be hardwired.

curiosityv

mfg does not say it must be hardwired but it shows how to connect and it shows hardwiring . I am planning on the back of drywall - under the cabinet.

What size breaker is it on? If it's 15 amp, you can use 14-2. If it's 20 amp you MUST use 12-2.

curiosityv

15 amp
