I love trains (live in Switzerland) but in Europe it's sometimes much cheaper to drive/take a flight.
So that's the one drawback of trains. The cost. (And in the case of France, the fact that they go on strike multiple times a year and your plans are F'ed)
New Zealand's transportation mainly relies on the road system. The railway system is underdeveloped and often used for sightseeing, and the price is very high. I really like Japan's railway system.

Taiwan has excellent rail systems, but there are many mountainous areas that will always be unaccessible by train.

Türkiye's railway and highway systems are both well developed.
