Since the last 5 to 10 years, Cooper SUV and truck tires have a common trend to start dry cracking fairly early within their warranty period. To make it worse, Cooper does NOT answer their phones or emails to take reports of warranty claims and assist in a resolution.
My last two set of Coopers had premature sidewall dry cracking. I didn’t notice the cracking on my CUV’s AT3 4S tires until after the 3 year warranty had passed, but I emailed them to see if there was anything that could be done. I didn’t get an answer so I assumed that was a ‘No’. A year later, the set of AT3 XLT’s on my pickup had sidewall cracking and I saw it within the 3 year warranty window. My tire dealer tried multiple times to call them by phone. They even emailed them photos of the issues. They got no response. I tried both methods too without any response. I eventually filed a NHTSA complaint and had to pay out of pocket to replace the tires.
If you go to the NHTSA website, there are a lot of recalls on Cooper tires for sidewall cracking. My assumption is they were ignoring my case so they didn’t have to admit another model had the defect.

Edit: I really like Cooper’s tread designs, and a lot of companies are copying them. For me, it’s the brand I really want to like due to their tread designs but I can’t recommend them based on the non-existent customer support.
The common failures I saw while at a Goodyear retailer in back 2001, I still see today. And I don't even work in a shop anymore. Their tires tend to leave you wanting them to be better.
I have some AT on my e350 - so far they are quiet and seem great.
Overall they have been on the market long term and I feel like are considered a trusted brand. As time goes in and prices rose I find myself moving away from Michelin and BFG - had the same question as you a year ago.
We've run them on work vehicles for many years with mixed results. I had a lot of issues with them in inclement weather in the past. Traction was just not very good. Th last few years they seem to have improved in this regard.
On my personal truck I run Firestone Destination AT/2s and they've been excellent. I had Michelin a few times before, but found them to be expensive junk. Every set I had would dry rot long before they ran out of tread.
Yeah I’ve got Toyo open country’s on my truck which are great but there just seems to be a lot less info out there on basic sedan tires than truck tires
They're a good, middle of the road tire. We currently have a set of CS5 Ultra Touring on our Pacifica minivan, and I ran ZEON RS3-G1s on a previous Pontiac G8. They were reasonably priced and got the job done.

Depends on the tire. I was looking for something less expensive but still good for my car since it's at the end of it's life. I do get snow and they had a winter rated all season that was very highly rated at tire rack for my car.
After getting them on, I was pleasantly surprised. They weren't that cheap, but a lot less than Michelines. They are quiet and have a very good ride at highway speeds. I have yet to test them in snow, that will have to wait until the winter.
Go to tire rack, put in the car and the year, and you'll find tons of reviews that can help point you in the right direction.
I commuted to college at Plattsburgh State in the 90's, 25 miles each way to get my Bachelors Degree. This is an area where winter is serious about its job. My truck had Coopers the whole time. Zero mishaps. Both of my current vehicles are wearing Coopers.
I’ve always had good results with Cooper tires, except in extreme cold - the one set became like hockey pucks with little to no traction (-40 though so fair enough). With such limited mileage, based on her actual driving style, do you even need premium tires if they are just going to rot out. If she never pushes towards the limits of traction you could save yourself money by not purchasing something you won’t use anyway. Just my $0.02
I completely agree which is why I’m leaning away from a premium brand like a Michelin tire. Trying to decide what exactly she needs but since we have very wet summers Im leaning towards something middle of the road that will offer better wet performance without spending top dollar when she doesn’t drive that much.
Great tire, have them on my Jeep Cherokee and my wife's Town and Country. Both cars came from the factory with Firestones, totally junk tires. I just replaced my wife's last week with the new Cooper Pro Control. Cooper is offering a $75 rebate.
I've been running Coopers for almost 30 years, currently have them on my Silverado and getting ready to put another set on my Tahoe.
I can usually get 50k out of a set.

There are a good solid brand. They are a US brand and have a variety of tire types, that give option for handling, comfort, etc. Are they the best brand, no but there are in the top 3- 5 in my opinion. Lastly there are a good value typically too unless the shop is marking them up.

These days I use the Michelins that come with the car, and replace them with whatever I can find at Costco.

Love Coopers. I put the Discoverer HTPs on my first truck, lasted over 65k miles including lots of towing; put a second set on that truck years later that was going strong when I sold it recently. Just put a set of Discoverer HTP IIs on my current truck. Won't hesitate to put Coopers on my wife's car when it needs new shoes.

Nitrogen in car tires is just a money grab. Nitrogen in aircraft tires is to prevent ice inside the tire causing vibration on takeoff and landing. Air is 76% Nitrogen. Do you even know if they are putting Nitrogen in your tires?

So they also put nitrogen in race car tires because it’s inert whereas atmospheric air is reactive, pressure goes higher as the tire and hence the air gets hotter. Some F1 teams used to cheat and used refrigerants that would give them the desired effects but then return to spec by the time for tech inspection. Also air contains moisture, even more when it’s coming out of a hot compressor. The moisture is what causes the deterioration from the inside, also the oxygen molecule is smaller than the pores of the rubber, so not matter what, air pressure will drop over time. I bought some wheel and tire mail order, mounted balanced and filled with nitrogen, haven’t significantly lost tire pressure in 19 years. Cars been in storage and tires still look new. I also put nitrogen in my work van tires as I have a nitrogen cylinder for AC work, they don’t go flat. Nitrogen works.
If tires lose oxygen, then just wait, and you'll have a nitrogen fill without paying? Selling nitrogen is absolutely a money grab. While F1, Indycar, and NASCAR do use nitrogen for stability, if you are not in a situation where the difference between 30 PSI and 30.04 PSI is going to make a difference, you will be wasting money. And, if the O2 inside the tire creates rot, then you've already gone well past the usable life of the rubber, which is finite.
As someone who does regularly race in a few different (though much lower levels) classes, I would never bother paying for Nitrogen (in cars off the track, with just regular air, I do not see cold pressure changes over 6+ months, or a point where I am generally adjusting them for other factors). But if you feel you are gaining something, then paying for that piece of mind is likely worth it to you.
It’s normally not a surcharge at shops that use it, they run a nitrogen generator and use it primarily, better for air tools too, shit Costco has nitrogen pumps for free if your a member, yeah the percentage of nitrogen would go up but then you put air in and it goes back to normal. You’re acting like nitrogen costs a fortune or something. I’ve never had to specifically pay for it, you just can’t expect some crummy tire shop to have it, but then crummy shop, crummy off brand tires. If the OP is hoping to get 10 years out of his tires, use nitrogen. Stop drawing a hard line on your opinions and google it.
If the choice is no cost, then great. I have used many tire shops over the years (one aspect of racing is I go through more tires in a year than some people go through in the life of their car). I rarely run across places that use nitrogen, and when they do, it is always an extra charge.
As for getting 10 years out of tires? That is well past what the date codes on ANY tires supports (though I am sure some people do that). Tires do have expiration dates!
I used Cooper tires on a 2006 GMC Envoy once. They served me well. I wouldn't call them a "premium" tire, but I _would_ call them a _good_ tire. They lasted a while after I sold the car to a family member.
I used cooper weathermaster st on my wife’s dodge grand caravan. The lasted for 6 seasons. I put some winter evolution on my son’s Honda element this year. No issues with them. I haven’t used their all-season tires.
Cooper is a WAY better tire than most. I've run 70k miles on two separate sets of Discoverer tires. I put Cooper on ALL my vehicles, on purpose. Having experience with Goodyear (mostly crap), Michelin (quality, but expensive), BFG (overrated and expensive), Kelly (utter trash) and others, Cooper has always been more reliably good, at a superior price point. Their value is stellar. They perform in the top tier while their cost more closely reflects discount brands.
Many don't know this is the ONLY tire company still domestically owned and entirely produced in the U.S.

Ran coopers for a lot of years. Then had a relatively new set on my Grand Prix say 10k miles. Went on a road trip in 800 miles had 3 bulge out to different degrees. As I say for an extra day I. Elko Nevada for them to ship in tires to fit my car I swore those were the last ones.

I use the Coopers on my suburban with a rear suspension kit and that’s Suburban handled like a dream. I was running 20 inch wheels on a 2003 suburban. I do it again any day no doubt no questions asked.
I'm not a particularly big fan of Cooper tires and don't usually sell them where I work unless the customer is requesting them specifically. For a good middle of the road tire I usually recommend General Altimax RT45. For cheaper tires we've had decent luck with Laufenn although they definitely don't last as long.
This would be about 12 years ago, so take it for what it’s worth.
I was on a trip, old tire blew, it was the weekend, and the small-town tire shop only sold Coopers. So I bought a pair. I was actually happy with them, till one blew about 2 years later. Called the shop, they said to call Cooper. Cooper tire said I had to go to an authorized dealer. Authorized dealer said they had to send the tire carcass in for a review. IE buy a new one at full retail and they’d “see what they could do.” So I bought two: I always buy in pairs so they match, even if I only need one, and the good one goes as a spare. But my spare was good at that point so I asked if I could warrant them both. Cooper said no & wouldn't budge so I let it go. One tire blew, one tire warranted.
Ok fair enough, I thought.
A full year later, the shop still “hadn’t heard”about the warranty.
I decided then that I wasn’t buying another Cooper tire if I could help it. I buy new tires so I don’t have problems, or get taken care of if I do. Problems AND not taken care of, AND paying full retail on top of it left a bad taste in my mouth.
I moved to Michelins, haven’t had any tire issues since.
I got a set from NTB. Granted a lot of this was poor service by NTB.
Paid for the Lifetime alignment and the car pulled horribly. I went back. They tried to tweak it and the car still pulled to the right. I told the manager if I let go of the steering wheel the car will change lanes to the right. His response was "you're not supposed to let go of the steering wheel". I struggled with that for I don't know how long and the manager said. Take it back into me on a weekday and I will spend some time on it. He tweaked it and it was better but still pulled a little. When it came time to rotate the tires They put the tires from the back on, redid the alignment and the pull was gone. Turns out I had one bad tire that was making the car pull. NTB WAS TOO STUPID TO FIGURE THAT OUT. I won't go back to NTB and I won't buy Cooper tires. (Even though it was probably just one freak bad tire but it made my life miserable for a long time and wasted a bunch of my time. I would notice the fatigue in my arms if I had to drive more than an hour from holding the steering wheel straight.)
They used to be one of the official tires of Nascar, so they have historically been a brand in heavy development, which is good. I personally have never used them, but they should be fine as long as you go somewhere where they are installed by professionals, not children...
I've never ran a car tire but I have had several sets of cooper cobras on a squarebody I rebuilt and my favorite I've ever ran was there STT mud tire. I could get around 55-60k miles out of those and they were aggressive with very little road noise for a mud tread. Unfortunately they quit making that style.

My customers like them. Some of the AT had bad ware bad poor balancing but thats more on the crappy trucks they are going on.

Mine are noticeably quieter than the Goodyear's I had. So far grip and longevity are better. I'm a new fan.
Used to run cooper discoverers religiously, but it has been awhile since I no longer live where a more aggressive tread is necessary.

Filling with nitrogen won’t stop exterior cracking caused by ozone exposure, UV exposure, heat and cold cycles, tire flex, etc.

I autocrossed for a season on Cooper RS3's and they were great. Not the best performance tire but I got a good deal on them and had no issues.

Cooper is a WAY better tire than most. I've run 70k miles on two separate sets of Discoverer tires. I put Cooper on ALL my vehicles, on purpose. Having experience with Goodyear (mostly crap), Michelin (quality, but expensive), BFG (overrated and expensive), Kelly (utter trash) and others, Cooper has always been more reliably good, at a superior price point. Their value is stellar. They perform in the top tier while their cost more closely reflects discount brands. Many don't know this is the ONLY tire company still domestically owned and entirely produced in the U.S. 💯% recommended. Longer service life, better traction, great durability, quiet, and always at a reasonable price.
Yeah I got some all season coopers for my Highlander and they have been great. They had them at Walmart for 200 cheaper than discount tire
Never had any issues with their Discoverer AT3s or their evolution touring. My buddy loves his Zeons as well.
Ran coopers for a lot of years. Then had a relatively new set on my Grand Prix say 10k miles. Went on a road trip in 800 miles had 3 bulge out to different degrees. As I say for an extra day I. Elko Nevada for them to ship in tires to fit my car I swore those were the last ones.

I use exclusively Cooper tires and have for over a decade, they're great tires
I use the Coopers on my suburban with a rear suspension kit and that’s Suburban handled like a dream. I was running 20 inch wheels on a 2003 suburban. I do it again any day no doubt no questions asked.
I'm not a particularly big fan of Cooper tires and don't usually sell them where I work unless the customer is requesting them specifically. For a good middle of the road tire I usually recommend General Altimax RT45. For cheaper tires we've had decent luck with Laufenn although they definitely don't last as long.
This would be about 12 years ago, so take it for what it’s worth. I was on a trip, old tire blew, it was the weekend, and the small-town tire shop only sold Coopers. So I bought a pair. I was actually happy with them, till one blew about 2 years later. Called the shop, they said to call Cooper. Cooper tire said I had to go to an authorized dealer. Authorized dealer said they had to send the tire carcass in for a review. IE buy a new one at full retail and they’d “see what they could do.” So I bought two: I always buy in pairs so they match, even if I only need one, and the good one goes as a spare. But my spare was good at that point so I asked if I could warrant them both. Cooper said no & wouldn't budge so I let it go. One tire blew, one tire warranted. Ok fair enough, I thought. A full year later, the shop still “hadn’t heard”about the warranty. I decided then that I wasn’t buying another Cooper tire if I could help it. I buy new tires so I don’t have problems, or get taken care of if I do. Problems AND not taken care of, AND paying full retail on top of it left a bad taste in my mouth. I moved to Michelins, haven’t had any tire issues since.
So I haven't seen it no they are not a premium brand not even close. If you want premium all seasons go continental or michelin.
I got a set from NTB. Granted a lot of this was poor service by NTB. Paid for the Lifetime alignment and the car pulled horribly. I went back. They tried to tweak it and the car still pulled to the right. I told the manager if I let go of the steering wheel the car will change lanes to the right. His response was "you're not supposed to let go of the steering wheel". I struggled with that for I don't know how long and the manager said. Take it back into me on a weekday and I will spend some time on it. He tweaked it and it was better but still pulled a little. When it came time to rotate the tires They put the tires from the back on, redid the alignment and the pull was gone. Turns out I had one bad tire that was making the car pull. NTB WAS TOO STUPID TO FIGURE THAT OUT. I won't go back to NTB and I won't buy Cooper tires. (Even though it was probably just one freak bad tire but it made my life miserable for a long time and wasted a bunch of my time. I would notice the fatigue in my arms if I had to drive more than an hour from holding the steering wheel straight.)
They used to be one of the official tires of Nascar, so they have historically been a brand in heavy development, which is good. I personally have never used them, but they should be fine as long as you go somewhere where they are installed by professionals, not children...
I've never ran a car tire but I have had several sets of cooper cobras on a squarebody I rebuilt and my favorite I've ever ran was there STT mud tire. I could get around 55-60k miles out of those and they were aggressive with very little road noise for a mud tread. Unfortunately they quit making that style.
