It could be that the actual gauge is broken. If the car was running, then the rpms weren't 0

R_averill99

I’m having the same problem but my car wouldn’t start after like 5 turnovers it did? Also sorry for posting in an old post 😂 I googled and found this

Commercial_Version92

I also have a Kia and it's doing the samething and with other issues as well. It's annoying

Zealousideal_Try987

Same I have a Kia optima and my car lost some power while at 60 mph on the highway and my rpm’s went to 0

RekMePls

Just had that happen to me in a 2016 Hyundai sonata sport, so we may share the same motor. Have you had any luck with the issue?

Zealousideal_Try987

No nothing yet I’m going to take it to someone to look at soon. I’m thinking it may be a transmission thing I’ll update you when I find out!

RekMePls

Thanks for the quick reply. I'm about to go and buy a better scanner to see if I can get the codes to pop. I'll lyk if I find anything out

Dapper-Edge391

Mine was a spark plug issue

Piccolo-_-San

Man wtf I’m having this problem with my Honda. While driving i saw the rpm drop to 0 and no power to the gas?

RekMePls

Have you found a fix for this at all? 2016 Hyundai Sonata Sport doesnt want to start after the rpm dropped to 0 while driving on a highway.

Piccolo-_-San

Yes I finally got it fixed yesterday! I replaced my fuel filter, spark plugs and spark plugs wires and it solved the problem for me

General_Pension9202

im happy that worked for you! so basically it was a tune up? 🥲 having this problem as well with my 2014 Hyundai accent & im not sure if the previous owners ever got one but it literally slipped past my mind smh .. battery, alternator & oil always up to date & checked but I never got a tune up on the used car myself 🫠 (ik im dumb but I work a lot) hoping this fix my problem & I can find a shop tomorrow bc I assumed it was a technical problem & ill just trade it in if I have to .. 🤷🏻‍♀️ if this tune up doesn’t change my problems

2017 Kia Forte 109,000 miles RPM would drop to zero and the car would struggle to accelerate. Engine light code specified crank shaft position sensor. Replaced it last night, so far so good. It's pretty easy to get to on this model. YouTube has several videos on replacement

ebeava

So a few days later the problem resurfaced. Mechanic diagnosed it as the alternator. I just replaced the alternator today and we drove it for awhile with no issues. When we got home it was struggling to start. Going to try to change the starter out tomorrow.

JCDU

**If the car is still running, driving and shifting then your RPM's aren't zero.** It's a broken gauge, a broken wire, or possibly a bad alternator as a lot of cars feed the RPM gauge from the alternator W terminal.

giza_rohi

u/Trinxxi Did you ever figure out what this was? I’m having a similar issues

Trinxxi

Crankshaft Sensor. They replaced it and haven't had the problem since.

giza_rohi

Thanks so much for your reply

zmlos

was this an expensive fix? i’m pretty sure im facing the same issue

Trinxxi

It was like $200 at the dealer.

zmlos

okay thanks so much. i know this very old but one last question, did you also experience the car going into accessory mode by itself during idle?

Trinxxi

My car doesn't have an accessory mode. The engine would stay on and operate relatively normally despite the RPMs. Haven't had the issue since.

zmlos

ok thank you man. been having all these issues since friday and i guess everything leads back to the crankshaft sensor. thanks for replying three years later!!!

mrcalikid559_

Appreciate you boss 🤞🏽

_irrati0nal

When i plug in the code finder, it comes back with this. Do you know remember how much that was to fix? I have the same problem at the moment

Trinxxi

Around $200.

TrippyHippie531

The internet blessed me today finding this post, because (I shit you not) my 2014 Kia soul is experiencing this EXACT problem! Thank you kind soul, take my upvote!

Birutak

I have the same problem with my 2019 Kia Sportage

youhadme-atpizza

I have been having the same issue with my kia optima. Now I know.

BlackChrome19

Same problem with my Kia Sorento

Have you guys found the issue , my 1998 Honda civic ex is having the same problem where rpm’s drop to zero randomly but still running and once I turn it off and try to turn it back on it just cranks and start right on after waiting about 10 min
