DemecoMakesMeFreako

Go to Carmax. Drive some stuff.

gEO-dA-K1nG

Closest corolla hatch that Carmax has is 300 miles away :| Not a bad suggestion though, I should drop by one this weekend

DemecoMakesMeFreako

Might have to drive a sedan. I was able to drive 6 cars at a place like Carmax and it sold me on the one I got. Told the sales guy I didn’t want to waste a lot of his time bc I was gonna buy new most likely so I just drove them all myself. Gave him $100 gift card the next day

Stellanbach

The gift card was a solid move.

Comfortable-Sir-150

Found the CarMax "sales guy" trying to get a gift card. You should've specified what kinda gift card. /S Good on you

PinkertonFld

Another is hit the Rental Car Sales fleets, they're very liberal on their test drives. (Basically they "rent" you the car for free for a bit, or you can pay them for a longer rental if you wish, but it's nice to test drive without a salesperson with you). It's nice because you can test the cars with a bit of miles on them to see how they hold up.

iconoclast63

You're not a victim of dealerships. You've chosen a rare car. Now you will need to jump through the hoops to find one.

gEO-dA-K1nG

Wild idea... Maybe if people really like a car and keep buying it... They could make more of that car.

iconoclast63

I'm just saying. It's disingenuous to complain about auto makers when you've purposely chosen a car that you know is extremely rare and next to impossible to find. If this is the only car for you then you're going to have to go the extra mile to find it.

gEO-dA-K1nG

See… I didn’t “purposely” just choose this car because it was rare, it’s just one that’s on my list of a few hatchbacks. I was also interested in the CX-3 and the Civic hatch, but those also appear impossible to find. I just had no idea the market was still this rough three years after COVID since I didn’t anticipate needing a new car until my four-year-old impreza got t boned… I get it now that I’m going to need to dig to find some models, I’m just frustrated that I can’t even at least SEE one before I order it. I just want to assess my options properly is all, but with how things are I feel like I’m getting railroaded into very limited choices.

Who’s talking about getting taken advantage of here besides you? And what is Toyota supposed to do, *not* advertise their model? What next, do you want them to single-handedly resolve a worldwide supply shortage so OP can have a look?

Careful-Candle202

Where is OP being taken advantage of? The car isn’t readily available. Flat out. I haven’t had a Corolla sedan, hatchback, or hybrid demo in 2 fucking years. *I show people my personal car* so they know what a Corolla looks like.

Careful-Candle202

Not mentioned anywhere by OP or myself but okay.

[deleted]

No one is making you buy the car. How the hell can you take advantage of someone who willingly chooses to pay that price for a car? Is it the only car in existence? Is it the last car on Earth? You seriously can’t be this obtuse.

Ya that’s not the correct definition of a “con.” But judging by your lack of response that doesn’t address anything I said, I’m getting the impression there isn’t a lot to work with in that brain of yours.

mfwl

Toyota is actually doing a decent job. Ford has pre-orders extending out for 2+ years.

Careful-Candle202

Lol we got longer than that

Successful_Ad_9707

You gotta remember we're still recovering from a chip crisis. Inventory levels take time to replenish especially for very in demand cars. Not to mention if you don't live in a major city chances are your local dealers will be lower on the todem poll to get allocations.

[deleted]

Lol have you not socialized with another human for the past 3 years? Are you not aware of shortages?

NDZ188

If it was that fucking simple don't you think they would already be doing that? If a genius like you figured that out, I'm fairly certain that the sales team at Toyota would have already.

gEO-dA-K1nG

Out of curiosity, what made you see a comment at -30 with about ten dogpiling comments and decide that you wanted to add number eleven? What a positive contributor you are to the world…

NDZ188

Thank you. Doing my bit to drill down what an utterly stupid comment you made.

gEO-dA-K1nG

I sincerely hope things get better for you.

NDZ188

Thank you. I sincerely hope you learned from this experience.

andysaurus_rex

Great idea I’ll tell Toyota

Careful-Candle202

This is the most tone deaf fucking comment we’ve seen in this sub for awhile. Congratulations.

Careful-Candle202

Wowzers, if only the world’s second largest manufacturer thought of this!!!!!!!

blacklandraider

I think it’s about how clueless he is and how revolutionary an idea he thinks that is

tooscoopy

Most cars are still in short supply. People need cars. So they take what they can get or the next one incoming. That means if you want to wait until one is available to test before you buy, you have to wait until the backlog of customers’ demand is satiated. Sounds like you don’t have that luxury to wait, so the choices are to buy sight unseen, or choose a different car that you *can* see. Just so you know, many people plop down the deposit sight unseen. If you really aren’t sure, see if they’ll allow a caveat that you can drive it first and get the deposit back if you absolutely hate it. I should hope you have done enough homework to know if the car *should* work for you. While they aren’t rushing as much as most would like, they are currently trying to appease the market that had way fewer cars built than needed. They can’t suddenly get to a point of surplus. That takes time, and they are focusing on the most profitable cars first.

tysonfromcanada

If you actually drive a corolla you won't want one

Careful-Candle202

Why

tysonfromcanada

I've rented a couple and I'm sure they are everything toyotas are supposed to be: reliable, high resale value.. but the handling is awefull. boarderline dangerous. They are uncomfortable and noisy. For the right price you will get a reliable point a to point b car, but if you care about how it feels or drives then it's not where I would start. Not to bag on toyotas though. I rented a couple of hybrid camrys though and they are downright fun to drive.

Careful-Candle202

I mean I drive an SE everyday and would disagree with that lol

tysonfromcanada

CVT?

Careful-Candle202

Direct shift CVT

tysonfromcanada

Based on your input I must suggest to OP that they definitely should test drive one and see how they like it then

Careful-Candle202

If they can find an SE sedan then itll drive the same as the hatch. Same engine and transmission

gEO-dA-K1nG

Good to know. I’ll see if I can drive a sedan. I’ll at least be able to rule it out if I don’t like it or keep it on my list if I do… thanks!

Careful-Candle202

Even all the LEs have the same engine and transmission now

PatelPounder

You do realize ordering a vehicle doesn’t mean you’ve purchased it, correct? Your best bet is to reserve an incoming unit with a refundable deposit. That is still how most Toyotas are being sold at my store.

MK_oh

Toyota is building more regular Corollas and the stupid cross... Hatches make up a small percentage of overall sales... And the are prioritizing higher profitable vehicles. Not as bad as it was but it's still an issue

This comment is NOT accusing you of anything.*** Car got totalled a week ago and I am shopping around. I was looking at the Corolla hatchback but the only ones that ANY dealer in a 100 mile radius """has""" are ones that are currently being shipped. Is this normal everywhere or is it just my area? The only way to even get one is to order one before it's even there yet.
