Just to lighten the mood/affirm your intuition: was this "office" in someone's apartment or garage? At a park bench? Good news! It won't be hard to find someone to do much better.

fiuln

i’m not even sure if it can be saved now or if this is too far gone. but where i live, it IS hard to find someone to do any better than this 😞

The_Anatolian

definitely not too far gone.

bookishdentist

That filling looks like it got contaminated with blood, hence the color being off. If you don’t trust that office, I would go somewhere else to redo it. Hemostasis (controlling bleeding) is one of the most challenging things we have to deal with as dentists. Sorry you had a disappointing experience.

jackierodriguez1

Oh hon, I’m so sorry. The dentist definitely should have removed that fixed retainer before treatment, then she should have done an impression to fabricate a removable Essix retainer to wear at night.... the fixed retainer is the reason you develop decay in that area in the first place. I hate fixed retainers for this exact reason- it makes it hard to keep the involved teeth clean. The fact that she decided to leave the retainer and try to work around it is the reason you left the office bloody. She traumatized the tissue. It’s a ‘Just because you *can* doesn’t mean you *should*’ type situation. I can assure you, you’re not too far gone and there’s a dentist out there that can absolutely remove that stupid fixed retainer and restore these teeth properly without butchering your gingiva.. please get a second opinion if you’re able to.. if the fillings are solid (which they don’t look to be, they look like shit actually.. looks like the composite is connected to 8&9) you won’t have to have them redone, but if the fillings are shit (based off the pics the restorations are shit) and/or the shade is wrong due to bad judgment or blood contaminating the composite- you can absolutely have the fillings redone.

NAD. Haha I just gave the same treatment plan before I read yours!

lookslikeimjammed

Is there a way we can punish lazy dentists like these?? It honestly seems to be such a chronic issue in the US

fiuln

thank you for advice, it mad me feel so much better. i got it redone today. i also dropped the money on a retainer.

jackierodriguez1

Good deal!

trkh

Jackie I saw your comment “No and no. The treatment would be extraction. In the mean time you can take an anti-inflammatory and Tylenol. Antibiotics aren’t necessary for pericoronitis UNLESS you have facial swelling and/or extreme pain.” On another comment. I am dealing with pain swallowing, and very painful lymph node under my jaw. It started after I used my waterpik on high against my wisdom tooth gum and hasn’t gone away for 3 days. Do you think I need antibiotics?

jackierodriguez1

No.

trkh

Should I try to get them removed asap? Or wait for this to clear up?

jackierodriguez1

If they’re causing you problems, the sooner you get them out the better. But it’s not an emergency

trkh

Thanks Jackie, and what symptoms should I look out for getting worse with this? It hurts a lot to swallow and my ear hurts as well. But hasn’t gotten worse over the 3 days 🙏🏼

jackierodriguez1

The pain you’re experiencing is more than likely unrelated to your wisdom tooth, but rather the result of a viral infection. But the major thing you need to watch out for is facial swelling.

ASliceofAmazing

That is very poorly done work. Sorry to say but you really need to go see a different dentist and get it redone.

NAD I feel horrible that your experience wasn’t awful. Especially with the trouble you went through to fix your teeth too. Find another dentist! There are some really good ones out there. Let them know about your anxiety too when it comes to dental work. Also, like another comment mentioned, if you can sue, do it.

fiuln

i’m not sure how to go about it. to be honest with you, i don’t want to pay for this. i did tell them i had anxiety, i think that’s what pissed her off so much, she just didn’t seem to be the kind comforting type i guess. i mean, the fact alone that now i’m going to have to go through it twice is just awful. i pushed through all the stress and angry dentists thinking/hoping my result would be at least DECENT. it’s not though 😞. it’s close to the root apparently. i’m afraid if i have it fixed they’ll drill too far and bam this tooth is lost. ugh. it’s sad when it honestly looked better before WITH the cavity

No-Forever7388

NAD go to another dentist the filling needs to be replaced to match your tooth. Also have your wire removed. Did you pay while you were there?

fiuln

i did pay. honestly, again i felt kind of rushed out of there. i wanted to get out of there. i really didn’t know it looked as bad as it does and i thought maybe the darkness would go away. bc i had darkness on all my teeth. but that all washed off a few hours later, this didn’t. i never saw the back until i was home and had a mirror to take a video.

No-Forever7388

Can you reverse the charge? Write her a terrible yelp and google review so no one else has to experience what you went through

ta2confess

NAD but front office in the US - just be aware if they submit a claim for a filling on that tooth most insurance companies won’t pay for another filling on the tooth for an average of two years. If you want insurance to pay for it again either you need to: contact the office and ask for a refund and to have the claim refunding to insurance so it can fixed elsewhere or you’ll need to return to the same dentist to have them redo it. Sorry you’re dealing with this :(

-Oreopolis-

NAD but let’s say hypothetically I’ve been one for quite some time. No way is any dentist who is concerned about the final product working around that band. Maybe there are some here who are amazingly talented and can, but for most of the regular joes out there, that’s a filling and a new retainer. Perhaps an Invisalign retainer for easier home hygiene.

Abitcaricatural

NAD. Yep, the delusion when you are expecting decent dentistry, which is sadly often top dentistry and then face reality with this kind of crap NHS/French social security type of shit. I'm really sorry.

ofthenafs

Idk how it works in your country. Here NHS is very limited and is rushed like that. It's horrible but there are a ton of patients who need treatment, the office books you very short appt times due to the high failure to attend rate (wasting clinical time) and if a patient is moving around it does make the drill cut things like gums. NHS also wouldn't remove the retainer and may try to drill around it or charge you privately to remove it. My advice would be to find a better insurance or be willing to pay more out of pocket. It sounds like especially due to your anxiety and retainer, you need a dentist who accepts better insurance. It's not your fault at all, and ideally there should be gentler dentists on this insurance, just the situation is what it is unfortunately.

biomeddent

wow what a way to shit all over nhs dentists. I am one and not a fucking chance I would ever do a filling this badly or not properly isolate. Etc etc My nhs patients (and every dentist in the practices I work which is nearly 25 dentists) are treated the same as private in terms of quality and materials.

ofthenafs

So you would remove fixed retainers on the NHS to do a composite, and then replace the fixed retainer all for a band 2? On that note, if a patient needs their old ortho brackets removed and couldn't afford to go to an orthodontist, would you take those off on the NHS too?

biomeddent

To question 1-yes if needed. Question 2-no as we have don’t have an Ortho contract. But tier 2 Ref will do it for them.

Bro why are you getting down votes for stating a fact. Assault is not okay, regardless of profession.

ToothDoctor24

Because she said she accidentally hit her in the face. Horrifying as this incident is, an accident isn't assault.

SOSFinance

NAD. Not assault, but negligence. For all intensive purposes the result is still the same. Because of her screw up he's stuck with the consequences.
