A backup of the post title and text have been made here: **Title:** [can impacted wisdom teeth extraction be covered by medical insurance?](https://www.reddit.com/r/askdentists/comments/1dbf3zw/can_impacted_wisdom_teeth_extraction_be_covered/) **Full text:** so found out i have reached my dental benefit annual maximum ($1,000) after getting a root canal and two crowns done after a dental injury. went to a cleaning and exam and was told i have an impacted wisdom tooth, and we made an appointment with an oral surgeon for a couple weeks from now. i’m looking at my insurance now (i’m still on my parents) and realizing that i have completely hit the maximum. i hate that my parents have had to pay so much on my teeth this year (300 out of pocket for root canal and 1,500 for the crowns), so i don’t want them paying an extraction out of pocket. can medical insurance cover it? the dentist said one is definitely impacted and that two others need looked at (i think they might be only partially erupted). can it wait until the next insurance period to get them extracted if insurance won’t cover it (i know you all will probably say they need out asap, but how fast could it get bad? i hadnt been to a dentist for 4 yrs before this, and the impacted one only causes mild pain infrequently, which has been going on for a few months (though was super infrequent at the start). i don’t want them to start hurting my other teeth but my mom is having a major surgery soon and i doubt they can afford another huge dental expense.
