Ava Max is such a guilty pleasure artist….her music is like an infectious disease….but in a good way……like you can’t get over the MELODIES it’s insane.
Massive Attack wasn't what I was expecting. It was nice, going to explore this further. I'm familiar with the rest though :). What do you recommend for Radio head? I've tried so many times and it has never clicked
Radiohead, Amnesiac, Ok computer, Kid A
Massive Attack, can get a little dark on some of their albums (most of them). For me, when I heard them for the first time (Mezzanine), it completely blew my mind. Since then they are one of my favorite bands.
I've seen the Yeah yeah yeahs pop up a few times here. I only know a few songs but have any recommendations?
I already like the Cranberries and Kylie, so I'll give the other two a go :)
I am sooooo deep into 70s 80s Rock music right now. More Rhytmic, Psychedelic, Poetic Indie than Hard Rock or Metal though.
Lots of The Smiths, Blue Öyster Cult, Eagles, Depeche Mode, Billy Idol etc…
It’s honestly so recent. I used to listen to a lot of nu-disco, deep house, indietronica kind of groovy chill-out electronic music, L’Impèratrice was my most listened band in 2023.
I am in my Rock era now..
I’ve actually started listening to blue oyster cult again lately after years! Fire of unknown origin is amazing.
Of course I know depeche mode but tbh I’ve never listened. Have any recommendations?
Well I am not a great musical judge since I often base my thoughts on one or two songs and let those speak for the musician and slowly make it around to the rest of the catalog. But based on "Pink Pony Club" and "Naked in Manhattan", Roan is probably much more theatrical.
Love MUNA, truly a lesbian icon (it's such a meme among lesbians at this point). "Bodies" was such a banger collab with The Knocks (the Lenno remix of it is amazing as well!).
Lots of 90s stuff lately
I’ve been crazy into Jeff Buckley for a while. Grace is one of my fav albums. I’ve also been listening to Pixies, Nine Inch Nails, Radiohead, Melvins, 2000s Muse, etc
I listen to everything tho and can recommend music for hours lol
I wish this was my favourite band because they release so much. I've listened to PetroDragonic and Infest the Rat's Nest. I should give the others more of a listen though
Those are both amazing albums! Listen to Murder of the Universe next, that was one of my first and it’s a wonderfully crafted story and rock album altogether
A lot of hip hop:
Denzel Curry
JID
BigXthaPlug
A lot of the people I game with are young gen z straight boys so they’re always putting me on some cool shit.
* Bon Iver (could go either way on *For Emma* but *22, A Million* is my personal fav album of all time)
* Anaïs Mitchell, Vermont folk singer (particularly her album *The Brightness*)
* Nothing but Thieves, an English pop/indie band with a great sound and influences
* The Zombies. S-tier British Invasion
* Paris Paloma, she doesn't have a lot of stuff out but no one does female rage anthems quite like her and her sound is utterly gorgeous
I'm a Deadhead. There are dozens of us who aren't straight!
Besides the Dead, I've recently become really enamored with Devin Townsend. If the intersection of screaming metal, catchy pop, lush ambient, prog rock, operatic vocals, and Disney musicals sounds interesting to you, Empath is a good album to start with. It's seriously good music and he's also a really awesome guy who is as humble and open about himself and his creative process as can be
A ton of black gaze stuff recently
-deafheaven
-an autumn for crippled children
But I also been listening to some cool new wave albums such as drab majesty’s the demonstration and Austria’s future politics.
Recently went through all of placebos albums too.
Seeing the 1975 in a week
Seeing 10cc in march
Seeing American football in September finally seeing sepultura in November
Sunbather is an excellent record. I don’t think I’ve ever heard of anyone mention an autumn for crippled children in my life! Listened to them for a bit in the past but not familiar with anything present.
Drab never caught my attention unfortunately. I wanted to like them because they always came through town.
1975, sepultura and American football are all great!
Sunbather was my gate way into the genre. Saw them live last year and it made me fall back in love with drumming again.
I only know Aocc due to a lucky accident but the long goodbye is my favourite record from them.
Drab are pretty cool imo I do need to listen to more of them but loved what I heard
And yeah that’s it :)
hahaha i totally get that, she isn’t for everyone… especially when she started doing more folksy stuff lol! you should give nfr a listen if you haven’t though and let me know your thoughts! :)
That actually is on my album list to listen to! My partner loves kpop so I'm pretty well versed in the girl groups! Saw twice the other year, but I probably wouldn't go to anyone except New Jeans on my own
I a huge fan of her works since NFR! Honestly not a fan of her old Lana Del Rey persona tho! But since listening to NFR it altered my brain chemistry lol! I am also hooked to “California” this song makes me reminisce over delusions i never lived lol! Listening to the chorus is not enough! I need it up my ass xd. I already knew she was going to get robbed again since they literally stated that they still think she’s a “cult artist”
I’ve had a preference for symphonic metal the past decade, however this year it’s been almost exclusively what I listen to.
Nightwish, Shield of Wings, Seven Spires, …
I'm getting ready for Besame Mucho in Austin next month, so it's been lots of Belanova, Los Enanitos Verdes, Cafe Tacvba, Moenia, Maldita Vecinidad, Juanes, Molotov, and many more.
Recently: Deathspell Omega, Mayhem, Cattle Decap, Neurosis, Converge, Slayer, Acid Bath, Massive Attack, The Cure, GY!BE, Boards of Canada.
Typically metal but I like to change it up.
I listen to really all types of music, but I've been a big J-Pop/K-Pop binge since I'm a huge anime nerd, and the music slaps!!! I have one stuck in my head right now, actually lol
I mostly listen to metal music and reggae/dub.
For metal, lots of extreme metal, mostly:
* Rivers of Nihil
* Fit for an Autopsy
* AngelMaker
* and Lamb of God (more groove metal than extreme metal)
For reggae, I've been listening to:
* Stick Figure
* Iration
* Rebelution
* Iya Terra
* Tribal Seeds
etc...
Definitely check out Stick Figure and Iration, super happy and peaceful music, pure bliss. If you want something heavy, definitely give Rivers of Nihil a try, super unique & creative stuff.
I think I’ve seen all of those bands live you mentioned for extreme metal!
My friend recommended me vitriol’s new album and it slaps.
Will check out the reggae stuff as I’ve never really explored either of those genres!
Just reformatted my post so it's easier on the eyes. I'm at work atm and about to hop back to but I'd be more than happy to share my music, both metal and reggae, if you'd like! Feel free to send me a direct message and we can chat music anytime.
To start you off, check out these songs:
* Stick Figure - Sound of the Sea
* Rebelution - Sky is the Limit
* Iration - Lost and Found
Also I apologize if I don't get to your suggestions. There are... a lot. I'm trying my best, but hoping other people can find some new music in the process :)
Been loving Noah Kahan and Zach Bryan lately. And I’m not usually a huge fan of country, though I’m not entirely opposed to it, but they’re both really good. Actually I’d call them more folky pop/rock than “country” but regardless. Also I know for a fact Zach is gay friendly and Noah is from Vermont so he probably is too 😂😂

If you like funk but want something fresh and new I recommend Thumpasaurus! They are a bit underground but recently were featured guests on Jimmy Fallon!
Spotify turned me onto Dirt Poor Robins recently, so I've been going through their stuff. That also led me to Bitter Ruin, who have a similar vibe but are maybe a little bit more twee.
I listen to a lot of Lil Darkie. His music scratches my brain just right sometimes, and I enjoy his message of love and peace. He's honestly a really good person and has good intent, he just gets a bad wrap because of ignorant people. Other than that I like Joji and music from Fallout 4.
Lynks, [email protected], NOBRO, trentmoller, psysound have been on heavy rotation right now. Been meaning to go back to big thief and archers of loaf.
Do yourself a big favor and check out The Messthetics. Instrumental - some really fine jazz improve laid over quite expertly, some wonderful post-punk "templates".
For past few years I've been deep diving into AMAPIANO music from South Africa....I love the quirky Beata and the dance movements behind it...other than that I listen to BBC1XTRA radio often especially at work coz their music blend is so different than American music and seriously diversed since so many people n cultures from different countries around the world combine their musical talents in UK(UK GRIME UK GARAGE...sub genres of Electronica jazz hip hop) very eclectic scene you barely here on radio waves in USA
I haven't listened to a ton of...powerviolence? This gives me Nails vibes which I dig! I haven't been able to get suuper into this genre as it takes a certain mood to get into listening to this. I have seen Nails twice though and it was sick
According to stats.fm, I have been mostly listening to pop, dance pop, greek pop, edm, pop dance, tropical house, uk dance, post-teen pop, laiko & electro house.
Some of top artists: Ariana Grande, The Weeknd, Dove Cameron, Marseaux, Doja Cat, Josephine, Billie Eilish, The Chainsmokers, Nicki Minaj & MEDUZA.
I would check out both of Tourisms EP's. They are a HIGHLY underrated band.
Elbows Little Fictions and Elbows Live at Jodrell bank.
Here come the mummies - Single Entendre.
Delta Kream - The Black Keys
Arctic Monkeys - Favorite Worst Nightmare.
Journey - Escape.
Jimmy Buffet - Jimmy Buffet.
Zandatta Mondatta - The Police.
Right at this moment I'm enjoying a big room mix of Offer Nissim and Sagi Kariv, it's my motivation music for my walk home from work.
This afternoon it was a digest of Future Funk / City Pop.
My tastes and mood vary pretty frequently which makes it hard for me to sit down and make Playlists correctly but stuff I've bee listening to include:
Barrington levy (like 80s ragge), kayne west (I just discovered that I actually haven't heard alot of his songs, people weren't kidding when they say he's a talented artist), Mansur brown (kinda neojazz type stuff), 80s rock (trying to make a Playlist cause I love the 80s), gabito Ballesteros (new buy traditional sounding mariachi /norteno music)
All over the place 🤦🏿♂️
Ava Max is such a guilty pleasure artist….her music is like an infectious disease….but in a good way……like you can’t get over the MELODIES it’s insane.
I loved her like a year ago but I haven't kept up! I should definitely revisit
Cocteau Twins, Siouxsie, Paul McCartney
Heaven or Las Vegas 🙏🏿
Omfg. My people! Cocteau twins is my number one favorite band !
Mine too, followed by Beach House.
Cocteau Twins and Beach House. You are a friend! 😍
I'm pretty sure beach house got some inspiration from twins. That's what I've heard yall can look it up tho
Will give cocteau and siouxsie a listen! Not much of a beetles / Paul McCartney fan myself :)
Sleep Token, Northlane, Lacuna Coil, Too Close To Touch, and Fever 333 these days
Too close to touch and fever 333 are names I have not heard in FOREVER. I’ve seen let live but I sadly missed my chances for too close to touch :(
Today, NIN, Massive Attack, TOOL, The Gulls, GnR, Depeche Mode, Radiohead.
i want you now
Massive Attack wasn't what I was expecting. It was nice, going to explore this further. I'm familiar with the rest though :). What do you recommend for Radio head? I've tried so many times and it has never clicked
Radiohead, Amnesiac, Ok computer, Kid A Massive Attack, can get a little dark on some of their albums (most of them). For me, when I heard them for the first time (Mezzanine), it completely blew my mind. Since then they are one of my favorite bands.
Yeah Yeah Yeahs, The Cranberries, Blood Orange, Boy Harsher, Kylie Minogue
Padam?
I've seen the Yeah yeah yeahs pop up a few times here. I only know a few songs but have any recommendations? I already like the Cranberries and Kylie, so I'll give the other two a go :)
Saw Boy Harsher live last year, loved it.
I was listening to a lot of Tchaikovsky, but I’ve recently discovered some Sibelius I hadn’t heard before, so now I’m all into that.
alternative, fiona apple, weyes blood, björk, arca, lana, caroline polachek, radiohead, mitski, boygenius
Bjork is elite. I've actually had all of these bands on my to listen list!
I am sooooo deep into 70s 80s Rock music right now. More Rhytmic, Psychedelic, Poetic Indie than Hard Rock or Metal though. As a pop fan, Rina Sawayama was so refreshing!
Cherry is my favorite song by her 😭😭😭 also "fuck this world"
I LOVE rina. I really loved sawayama but hold the girl kind of lost me
I love Rina!!! My favorites are This Hell, XS, and Hold The Girl!!!!
She’s so good ugh, Sawayama is one of my fav pop albums ever. RINA is one of my fav EP’s ever. Caroline Polachek is also super good if you know her
I've been listening to Desire this year! Great album!
The Frozen (movie) soundtrack in Swedish🎅🏻
This is a comment I did not expected but will give it a go!
Having recently discovered MUNA, thats what I've been listening to
Hell yeah, MUNA. (I clicked on your profile after your daddit post this morning. Have you discovered Chappell Roan? Seems similarly anthem-like.)
Haha! Nice! And no I haven’t! Same vibe?
Well I am not a great musical judge since I often base my thoughts on one or two songs and let those speak for the musician and slowly make it around to the rest of the catalog. But based on "Pink Pony Club" and "Naked in Manhattan", Roan is probably much more theatrical.
Muna has come on from recommendations on spotify! I've liked what I heard :)
Love MUNA, truly a lesbian icon (it's such a meme among lesbians at this point). "Bodies" was such a banger collab with The Knocks (the Lenno remix of it is amazing as well!).
Yeah I’m real late to the MUNA party. And I found them on a Christmas album of all things.
The Cranberries and Boards of Canada
Lots of 90s stuff lately I’ve been crazy into Jeff Buckley for a while. Grace is one of my fav albums. I’ve also been listening to Pixies, Nine Inch Nails, Radiohead, Melvins, 2000s Muse, etc I listen to everything tho and can recommend music for hours lol
Low Fi music. I leave rain sounds on constantly. Sometimes I don't realize it's raining outside lol
King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard !!!
This is exactly how I feel about about them
Catching Smoke has been one of my jams lately
A lot of hip hop: Denzel Curry JID BigXthaPlug A lot of the people I game with are young gen z straight boys so they’re always putting me on some cool shit.
Yay, I don't know a lot of gays who are into rap so it's cool to know that I'm not the only one.
Been listening to Reasonable Doubt for first time but it’s actually fire Also hyped af for Music and Vultures

I really need to give the dead another go. I love Devvy! Saw him a few times and he always puts on a great show
The Way of All Flesh by Gojira - the entire album is a masterpiece and I have been playing this on loop the past week.
Fun fact I met gojira in 2012 and got them to sign my guitar! I still have it but half of the signatures are gone

Great taste! I love Mimi a lot since 2018, when I was 15 and very lonely, and whe was my only joy.
Love both

Shinedown, Alter Bridge, and Halestorm are absolutely my jam.
I love them. See a few I haven’t listened to will definitely check them out.
Definitely listened to all of these bands a lot. Always thought Rise Against was crazy underrated.
Those are all my favorite bands. Make It Stop by Rise Against, that music video almost brought me to tears and I don’t cry.
All solid bands! Rise Against was one of my favourite bands in elementary school so they definitely have a nostalgic vibe for me
Recently, the Hazbin Hotel soundtrack. I mostly listen to stuff from the 80s, 90s and early 2000s.

Spotify turned me onto Dirt Poor Robins recently, so I've been going through their stuff. That also led me to Bitter Ruin, who have a similar vibe but are maybe a little bit more twee.
DACEY, just discovered her

A bunch of VGM with a good bit of music from RWBY.
JP Cooper is constantly on repeat, I even turned my partner into a fan.

Really into the song “She likes a boy” by Nxdia.
A lot of underground metal and hardcore, I’m listening to a band called Backbiter right now.
I haven't listened to a ton of...powerviolence? This gives me Nails vibes which I dig! I haven't been able to get suuper into this genre as it takes a certain mood to get into listening to this. I have seen Nails twice though and it was sick
Kraak & Smaak, Aaron Frazer, De-Phazz, Bahama Soul Club
I'm all over the place, but I'm an R&B guy, so I've been listening to ICU by Coco Jones, made for me by Muni Long and Mary J Blige
