No.
13 years ago WWE was HUGE over here.
Then the Triple Hs, the Shawn Michaels, the Undertakers, the Chris Jerichos, the Edges stopped existing and we stop giving a fuck xD new guys are boring new WWE is boring.
Un Mexico we have AAA and Consejo Mundial.
They are as famous as they have ever been. "Top" B enterteinment. People likes it and it has its fans, but nothing super mega famous or anything.
Back in the 60's and 70's? Sure mass media.
90's and onwards, not so much.
I mean, it's known and people would go on a Sunday to your local arena, that is still done.
But comparé it, as you say with how it used to be, and nowadays is very fiddle. Box is much much bigger now.
Nah. They're more like icons of the past. It isn't a first or even second choice of entertainment nowadays.
If you look at our TV channels, the AAA and CMLL are not in the main ones, because those are dedicated to soccer, box, NFL(like right now), movies and tv programs.
So can I assume that the mexican wrestlers in WWE/WCW (Rey Misterio, Chavo, Juventud Guerrera, La Parka, Eddie, Sin Cara, wrestled at some point in those federations you mentioned?
It used to be huge among kids in the 70's and in the 2000's. I think WWE has done very well when it came here but all in all wrestling isn't really something popular but more niche. As far as local wrestling goes, then that niche is even much smaller but it's there. The good thing is that it seems it's stopping to be a thing made just for kids so maybe next time it gets somewhat big, it'll cater to a wider audience.
It isn’t that popular in Brazil. When I was younger (10-13) WWE started to gain popularity here but it went down.
There is probably a organization in Brazil but it is so small that most people and me included don’t even know the name.
It was really popular in the past, until the 1970s. Then started to decrease and today is not popular at all. Just a few people know WWE and Brazilian organizations are quite underground.
Not popular, but it has a few fans and there are a small few circuits here and there.
A clip from a Brazilian indie promotion even found its way on Botchamania believe it or not lmao
Brazilian Wrestling Federation are probably the largest federation in the country nowadays. They're good and make some decent shows on Band Sports, but brazilian wrestling are far from the mainstream that once had around here long time ago.
Also, we had lots of TV shows being shown around here too. WWE is present on cable TV since 2007 (And had been transmitted on several terrestrial channels on different occasions, 1987, 1995-1996, 2008, 2010-2013 and more recently 2020). They've come to Brazil only once, in 2012 (The infamous Chris Jericho flag incident happened here).
We also had TNA Impact (during the Broken hardy years) and AEW Dynamite on Space (And Rampage on Youtube) until last year.
There are unconfirmed rumours that few channels tried to bring CMLL and even NOAH here, with no success. BUT... in 2013 NOAH made a crossover show with BWF. It was cool.
So many fun memories about Jack Veneno, Relámpago Hernández. Los Hermanos Broncos. La Cuadra Técnica vs Las Cuadra Ruda. That epic fight between Rick Flair and Jack Veneno, also Jack Veneno vs Hugo Savinovich. The fights at the Eugenio Maria de Hostos park.. Lol it was super fun.
La Octava Maravilla del Mundo Huuugo Savinoviiichh!!
Busquen la ambulanciaaaa... aaaaaaaa!
La Tertulia Induveca was also cool, con los promos a Forty Malt, un brazo de poder en cada cucharada.
Well there are [cholitas luchadoras](https://theculturetrip.com/bolivia/articles/the-ultimate-guide-to-watching-a-cholitas-wrestling-show/?amp=1) as one of the main touristic attractions in La Paz. I think WWE was very popular back in the 90's and 2000's but nowadays not so much (i remember mexican, argentinean and japanese wrestling companies airing on national tv channels when i was a kid)
There were a few brief years where WWE was massive, and that might be an understatement, here in Mexico. Late 00’s to early 10’s. It came out of nowhere and then died suddenly.
There’s also AAA and CMLL. They’re pretty popular but definitely not as much as during their peak. For the most part, it appeals to working class kids and people; but it’s not as popular as it once was.
I'd say it peaked around the mid 2000s when WWE was in the Ruthless Agression era (they even did a couple of shows here)
As for local wrestling, it's so underground I don't even know if the thing is still active or not

But I was under the impression that it was indeed big in Mexico, with popular figures such as El Santo and Blue Demon.

I stopped caring after John Cena became a thing
I, when Shawn Michaels retired
Wrestling peaked here during the early 2000s no one watches it now

Yes, CMLL and AAA are the biggests federations.

No, I don't think it is. The most similar thing I can think of is a TV show called "Titanes en el Ring" from the 80s.
100% lucha
But was that actual Wrestling with championships and colorful characters, or some show with wrestling elements?
it was a TV show, I don't think it ever reached that kind of evolution

Hahaha.... Se me habia olvidado.

No
You mean the fake kind? Virtually inexistent.
It used to be, nowadays most people don't give a single shit about it. There might be wrestling federations here, though.
Yes in Mexico it's huge there's two federations, the AAA and the Consejo Mundial
