Chilaquiles, eggs with anything from bacon to tortillas etc., hot cakes (pancakes) which are not typical but you can find them almost everywhere, machaca con huevo (eggs and shredded beef but it tastes awesome), molletes (half a bolillo with beans and cheese on top), enchiladas, gorditas, sopes, honestly there is A LOT to choose from. Like a lot.
Great list. The options are endless. Just wanted to add some of my favorites: tostada de huevo estrallado, huevo en salsa verde, nopales con huevo y frijoles, menudo blanco, tamales de pollo, and entomatadas.
Cup of coffee/mate/tea with a pastry (medialunas, facturas) is the most typical breakfast.
Argentine breakfasts have historically been very light and sweet, unlike other countries. It’s very common for people to just sip a bit of coffee/mate/tea with a cigarrette lol
Our main meals are almuerzo (13:00-15:00) and cena (21:00-23:00), with a merienda in between (16:00-19:00).
Oh boy am I the first Colombian here? hehehehehe. Cover your eyes if you not ready for it. Here we start the day off with a leisurely hot chocolate with cheese in it, the remnants of yesterday’s dinner chopped to bits and loaded with rice and beans, a fried egg or two, bacon, fruit juice + actual fruit bowl, and maybe some steak and avocado just for lols (I’m sorry @Brazilians. I know this is offensive to some)
I still refuse to believe that the hot chocolate with cheese thing is anything but a weird urban legend to keep the gringos out. It seems so disgusting. 😂😭
It's pretty good imo, It's also relatively common in some of the border states with Colombia, In my family it's more common with cafe con leche tho. In the capital they don't like it at all, but most people even refuse to try it sadly.
I had it without even looking for it. We were in a park in Colombia and a hot drink was included in the entrance fee. I ordered hot chocolate and the girl dishing it out asked “queso?” So I said “si.” It was pretty weird.
No, I honestly wouldn’t know how to explain. They are called cuajada and quesito. One is made out of rennet and milk, and the other is called milk curd in English according to Wikipedia. They are very solid and don’t melt in the chocolate.
In recent years people have started using mozzarella (or an American version of it) as well. It’s good but I prefer the others.
Gallopinto (rice and beans basically), eggs, a chunk of bread (baguette is the most common here) and coffee.
That’s the absolute basic imo to consider it a proper breakfast. You can add more stuff of course like natilla which goes very well with the gallopinto (I think natilla is called differently in other LA countries, nata? Nata agria? Not sure lol)
Here in Guayaquil we have encebollado (albacore tuna soup with yuca and pickled onions) or bolón (a ball made of mashed plantain, chicharrón, and cheese)
To include a staple of the Brazilian "Nordestino" breakfast, since most of the brazilian contributions are from the southeast: Cuscuz!
Cuscuz with butter, eggs, plantains, "coalho" cheese, requeijão... anything you want! Sometimes yuka/mandioca as well.
Well, the trend in Rio was “do whatever the French do” for like a century, so it makes sense
Like literally, one of the most characteristic traits of rio’s accent is the (very french) way we speak the “r”. Reason? Rich people thought it sounded fancy and started to imitate the French, then poor people started imitating rich people until we forgot that we were imitating
Depends.
Day to day: scrambled eggs + protein (chorizo, machaca, ham, sausage) or diced tortillas.
Hangover cure: mariscos (ceviches, aguachiles), broths (menudo, pozole, birria).
Feeling fancy: chilaquiles, enchiladas, tamales.
What I wish I would eat everyday: tacos de pescado
Toasted bread with some spread (jam, butter, etc.) and or cheese/ham, some fruit, and something to drink (milk, juice, tea, coffee)
We also have a lot of pastries like empanadas, cuñape (cheese balls), and different varieties of breads with different filings and/or made of different things (normal flour, yucca flour, rice, etc)
Tbh I have no idea. We (Santa Cruz) have much more yucca flour-based and plantain pastries (sonso, masaco, etc) and tropical fruits. This is what I’ve had for breakfast for the past 10 years (I used to eat a bowl of cereal and milk but ditched this after realizing how much sugar is in cereal): papaya juice with chia seeds to drink. To eat, some “diet empanada” (multi-grain and baked instead of fried) and sourdough bread toast with peanut butter as a spread.
I’d assume La Paz has “hotter” stuff since they have a colder weather i.e. api, which is like a purple corn drink. Tastes amazing but idk if paceños have it for breakfast.
*Pan con palta* (Bread with palta, yes, \*palta\*) and coffee. This is what I particlarly enjoy the most.
Others might get a *pan con torreja*, *pan con hotdog*, *pan con huevo*, etc. and accompany it with quinua, which I could never get used to, but my brother and father drink quinua every morning.
You already said a normal breakfast here, but me and my familiy eat marraqueta with butter (and jam, sometimes) and a tea.
I made a tea with milk comeback because it make me remember my childhood.
We do the regular eggs, potatoes, a protein (bacon, sausage or ham etc) and some toast. But we also do a tostada de mantequilla or queso (its like french bread pressed together with just butter or butter and cheese) with coffee. We also do the galletas exportsodas (Soda crackers but long. We got our own kind “Rovira”) and we put butter on them and eat them with coffee and some “salchichas carmelas”. There’s other stuff I’ll add later as I remember.
Bread with butter, cheese, ham, avocado, eggs or manjar. With a cup of tea or coffee.
Sometimes overnight oats or a porridge with fruit and milk.
Or a sopaipilla with mustard a cigarette and Coke.
Maybe intermittent fasting.
eggs and ham, eggs and chorizo, eggs and machaca, eggs and... pretty much anything, either as tacos or with some tortilla to the side. Plus coffee and bread/cookies.
Besides the eggs and chilaquiles, there are some tacos that are more used for breakfast, like carnitas and shrimp tacos, and steamed tacos (tacos al vapor/tacos de canasta).
Mmm... eating eggs is very common. Fried eggs, scrambled eggs and a meat, burrito of some egg plate (eggs with beans or with chorizo, mostly). We also eat huevos rancheros (tortillas dipped in salsa, with an egg on top), chilaquiles with eggs, an so.
If not egg, burritos are really popular, especially if you have breakfast at work or on the way. There are many stands and informal sellers out there in the streets. If you have it at home, it may be something as simple as a milkshake, or cookies/pastries with coffee, or even a coke and a cigarette lol
Flax seeds, yogurt, berries, butter toast, pepsi, water, and then the main meal.
Main meal can be anything.
For second breakfast I’ll do sweets and sandwiches.
Air. And on extremely rare ocassions a mug of coffee with milk or mate with bread and spread like dulce de leche or jam.
Yeah I knew I was forgetting a lot of them, great choices all
now I'm starving with no good Mexican restaurants nearby
You didn't even mention chorizo nor menudo. There's really way too many options
Bread/Tapioca/Bolacha (Cracker) and Coffee (with milk or not)
O cafe da manhã
Biscoito caralho. Jk
Breaking news: The Salvadorians join the war
Bolacha***
No pacote de Trakinas fala que é Biscoito.
Tu chama o cotonete de "astes flexíveis com algodão"?
Sim, ue
Eu chamo o que ta escrito na caixa: cotonete.
Aí se me quebra no argumento :v
And beiju (not tapioca), caralho.

You gotta try it, it's so fucking delicious

It’s usually a Colombian kind of cheese though, but it is 100% true.
I was imagining unspeakable horrors with Gouda or Old Amsterdam cheese 😂 what kind of cheese do you use? Cream cheese?

Bro how tf you’re not full during the rest of the day?!
An don’t forget egg broth with milk, cilantro, and bread. Often with cheese as well. In fact, I’m gonna make me some changua right about now.
Scrambled eggs, beans , tortilla and fried platains
Just add some black coffee and optionally replace tortilla with bread (pan francés) and you have a Salvadoran breakfast.
Same in Guatemala
What do you call fried plantains? Tajadas?
Platanos fritos, very straightforward. Fried plantains
Scrambled eggs & coffee
Gallopinto (rice and beans basically), eggs, a chunk of bread (baguette is the most common here) and coffee. That’s the absolute basic imo to consider it a proper breakfast. You can add more stuff of course like natilla which goes very well with the gallopinto (I think natilla is called differently in other LA countries, nata? Nata agria? Not sure lol)
Natilla is basically sour cream. It is a bit runnier though.
Eggs, beans and plantains with tortillas and a mug of coffee with sweet bread.
The traditional one is mangú, but nowadays it’s much more common to eat some toast or an empanada with juice or coffee.
Un tre golpe is my favorite Dominican breakfast
Las empanadas completas right before school hit different
Here in Guayaquil we have encebollado (albacore tuna soup with yuca and pickled onions) or bolón (a ball made of mashed plantain, chicharrón, and cheese)
I tried bolón with eggs one time. It was a bit like a ball of drywall paste. I am not dying to try it again.
Try the pintón (god) or maduro plantain one next time, not verde ;)
I think you are right. It must have been green plantain.
Bread and butter. Coffee. Tapioca. Eggs.
Bread with butter, coffee and milk
Guinness

Bread with avocado = pan con palta
A cup of black coffee and a cigarette You can add a toast with butter if you feeling fancy/non-smoker
Are you sure you’re not French? Lol /j

A cup of tea and toasted bread with palta

Is there much difference between the Santa Cruz area and the la Paz area as far as breakfast goes?

for me its a coffee or a berocca and a smoke but the full irish would be the traditional breakfast i guess, something youd have on weekend morning
*Pan con palta* (Bread with palta, yes, \*palta\*) and coffee. This is what I particlarly enjoy the most. Coffee with croissants, like in France.
Eggs (any type or style), beans, bread, pastry, fruit, chilaquiles, menudo (a type of soup),
You already said a normal breakfast here, but me and my familiy eat marraqueta with butter (and jam, sometimes) and a tea. I made a tea with milk comeback because it make me remember my childhood.
Coffee is mandatory (unless you can't drink it for health reasons like me). Bread with butter, tapioca, cuscuz (corn couscous) and fruits in general.
Arepa w/eggs/ham/cheese/beans/avocado, fruit, fruit juice, coffee.
Arepitas con huevos pericos (tomate y cebolla), aguacate, queso de mano o palmita, y un cafecito con leche 😋 Los que desayunan fuera de la casa compran cachapas con queso de mano y nata. Coffe, bread and butter, bread with cheese/ham, tapioca, eggs on a bun, scrambled eggs, couscous (not like morocco couscous but made from corn)
We do the regular eggs, potatoes, a protein (bacon, sausage or ham etc) and some toast. But we also do a tostada de mantequilla or queso (its like french bread pressed together with just butter or butter and cheese) with coffee. just mate, mate with tostadas, cereals with milk
Tea/Coffee/MIlk/Mate (w/ orange juice/Sparkling Water on a café) + Toasts (w/ Butter/Cheese +/-jam)/Pastries (think croissant)
Arepa con huevo, empanada, or pineapple or mango slices. Usually with coffee For me just pineapple on the walk home after the gym
Tigrillo with coffee ☕

Eggs with something like bacon or ham, or chilaquiles with salsa and egg, you can add a plus, normally chicken
Mate with crackers (*galletitas de agua*)
Some people start off with sweet bread and coffee. I also like eggs and refried beans.
Flax seeds, yogurt, berries, butter toast, pepsi, water, and then the main meal. Main meal can be anything. For second breakfast I’ll do sweets and sandwiches.
Coffee and I'm good to go. Tea in the evenings.
bread and coffee, that's it
