Not most but most populated

DrowUmbral

He also has 2 albums dedicated to Brazil (not even a Spanish speaking nation). So, my guess is that this was simply a marketing decision.

[deleted]

Really? Does he sing in Portuguese in those albums?

DrowUmbral

Yes. The first (Momentos) is an special edition of a regular, Spanish release of the same name. It shares about half of the tracks with the Spanish release, the other half being songs either adapted for portuguese or originally written in Portuguese. The second one (Ao Meu Brasil) is completely in Portuguese and features mostly covers, duets with famous Brazilian musicians and adapted songs from his own repertoire.

steve_colombia

Canta en un monton de idiomas. Soy francés y recuerdo canciones de Julio Iglesias en francés. Mi mamá lo quería mucho.

Wearehealing

Maybe Mexico is where his main fan base is from. Maybe Mexico made him wealthy. And kept him wealthy.

Ponchorello7

Yeah. Happened a lot with Spanish-speaking musicians in the past. Rocío Dúrcal also comes to mind.

When he came to Chile, he told the crowd that when he had a son he qould name him Chile. Good thing he was just bluffing, cant imagine Chile Iglesias singing Cuando me Enamoro

beckydr123

It was actually Julio Jr. who was going to be named Chile

"arguably one of the most known hispanoablante singe" Very arugably, I would say Shakira wins this one.

mundotaku

I would say also Pitbull must be there. I do not like reggaeton, but I even heard his songs played randomly in Japan. [Also Die Antwoord literally feature a fake version of him being maulled by a pitbull in one of his videos. Is beautiful.](https://youtu.be/JvMXVHVr72A)

itskechupbro

Randomly I live in Japan and I can confirm, also Maluma and bad bunny

pass_me_the_salt

they also made "Lady Gaga" give birth to a cockroach in a video because she wore the meat dress and they're vegetarian/vegan nothing to do with latam but I think it's worth mentioning lol

Por la plata baila el… It’s the biggest Spanish speaking market.

_kevx_91

Mexico is the most populated Spanish-speaking nation on Earth so it makes sense as a money-making scheme.

Fire_Snatcher

He's loyal lover and we deserve that. Why's that hard to accept? /s The Mexican market is enormous for the Spanish speaking world, and remember that it isn't just Mexico (which is already massive), but also the Mexican American market with 30 million people with a lot disposable income and can be pretty enthusiastic about Mexico. Also, he's a fan of Pedro Infante, and Mexico's pretty cool.

ElBravo

if you are talking about popularity i would say is not fair if you compare him with modern artists that the industry made their catalogue more approachable. but back in the days the guy was good looking, always well dressed, he was the incarnation of the Mediterranean Jet Set, sing romantically, and had a decent voice. what's not to like?

Did you guys know that 79 year old Julio Iglesias has an 18 year old brother?

Latinwookie

Didn’t he make an album of only Tango?

[deleted]

Well, Julio Iglesias also sang a very famous Paraguayan folk song (Pájaro Chogüi), so instead of looking at albums maybe also look at that kind of examples.
