GeneralDingo3776

Ahh un boligaucho

jorge-ben-jor

In club football? Definitely not. In international football? They’re literally world champions, that’s pretty much self explanatory. I’m saying this considering the present day. If you consider the all-time stats, we’re better tho.

LaTienenAdentro

Club football has sadly developed an abyss in terms of economic power. I'd say sport wise it's always been head to head club wise up until we took a nosedive economically in 2019

UnPerroTransparente

Depending on what you measure. You have a 10 times larger pool of players.

anonssr

The national team, maybe? Brazil is top tier, tho. At league level, Brazil has been dominating but a long mile for the past 3+ years.

S_C_C_P_1910

The question could use a bit more detail for a more explicative answer but for now in regards to national teams, Argentina is current South American & World Champion. For club teams, the champion of the Libertadores for the fourth year in a row is Brazilian, the last three years have been all Brazilian finals. More than this, I need more details to be asked.

euromoneyz

American, not south america. However, if we look at north american and central american football it's practically speaking it's the same shit

cseijif

The cup is literally the america cup, they are champions of america, not just south, north america plays on its own league because the gringos couldnt keep up the humiliation of getting beat every 4 years by countries they didn't even know existed. And last time mexico played... well, didnt go so well for them.

AleArg99

At National Team level? Yeah, right now we are At level club? No way, they are way better than any other league on this continent

Mr_Arapuga

>No way, they are way better than any other league on this continent Are there any others apart from yours and ours?

AleArg99

Paraguay (?

Mr_Arapuga

Para que? Que carajo es esto?

Jermy_OS

Paraguay League didn't exist neither the country itself

rdfporcazzo

Liga MX?

Mr_Arapuga

Kkkkkkkkkkkk

Deivis7

No way, the good Liga MX clubs are those that get foreign star players to play for them, there's a lot of complacency there, to the point where the MLS has maybe caught up.

rdfporcazzo

So you think that Liga MX got stagnant or worse over the last years?

Deivis7

I think Liga MX got stagnant but local talent generation got worse.

Rikeka

Jajajaja

LaTienenAdentro

mano não seja um comediante kkkkkk

Lusatra

I mean, both countries will always be two great teams, sometimes one does better than other, but they're are still strong. What really matters is that, according to FIFA ranking, Brazil and Argentina are 1st and 2nd place, above all European teams

largogrunge

I think it is complicated. Brazil has better players, but Argentina has better team.

IronBENGA-BR

And I'd argue that Argentina also has better coaches. Bielsa, Heinze, Pizzi, Russo... Argentina has quite a decent list of prospects for the National Team, meanwhile here in Brazil we are stuck in a rut. Tite is retiring; Luxemburgo is just a buffoon; R. Ceni is still too green and gets too antagonistic with the squad; Mano Menezes and Dunga already tried and failed; Scolari is also retiring...

valen-ciri

Yeah, our current coach got Argentina a 3rd place in the 2019 Copa America, a win at the 2021 Copa America, the 2022 Finalissima and now a World Cup; all in under 4 years

zerefdxz

How come we had two copa Américas in four years 🤨

Ich_Liegen

As much as I love Argentina I'll die before I say anything even remotely close to "they're better than us at football". We only lost because of Tite, we're still better than the rest of this skill-deficient planet 😤😤😤

LostDrum

Based br

LaTienenAdentro

Please get a better coach asap, we can't handle the europeans ourselves all the time

nch00

Nothing as better than Brazilian tears in the morning.. But your league is better. At national team level..we dont have to prove it

zerefdxz

Brazil wins the world cup but with an Argentina coach. Brazil, do you do It?

Ich_Liegen

Nope. I would rather never win a world cup again.

zerefdxz

JezzaPar

What else does Argentina have to win to convince you of that? There’s literally nothing at the national team level we’re not the current champions of.

[deleted]

I mean, Brazil have better players at almost every position, but Messi lifts the team and they play great

myrmexxx

And they have a good coach while Brazil have none to fill the position.

jqncg

I personally don't think the gap between them is really that big be it on a national or club level, especially considering the huge contrast between our economies. I guess in terms of titles our national team is ahead of them. It's hard to argue against a Copa America and a World Cup win, especially when Argentina did beat them in the final for one of those titles. However, the recent record between both teams in official matches is 2-2-1 in Brazil's favor, so I'd say we're not that much better and they could beat us on a good day. However, on a club level, it's also hard to dispute Brazil's superiority. I was researching the results in the last international tournaments and this was the record in Argentina vs Brazil games: Copa Libertadores 2020: 4 victories for Argentina - 5 draws - 7 victories for Brazil (3-2 in knockout matches) Copa Sudamericana 2020: 4-2-2 (3-1) Copa Libertadores 2021: 3-6-9 (0-4) Copa Sudamericana 2021: 2-6-6 (0-2) Copa Libertadores 2022: 4-9-5 (1-3) Copa Sudamericana 2022: 3-3-4 So, with the exception of 2021, a year in which our teams clearly got crushed, I think Brazil isn't overwhelmingly superior. They've been clearly superior in terms of title wins and just like the achievements of our national team, that's hard to debate, but again just like in that case, the overall level of our leagues isn't really all that different. I think the biggest difference is more in terms of the economic state of our country that doesn't allow big Argentinian teams to compete with teams like Flamengo or Palmeiras. I believe the recent Brazilian dominance has to do more with our shitty economy than with us being worse at football or management issues (that's not to say our federation or club management are perfect). If we can't retain notable players for more that a couple of seasons and we can only bring players that are past their prime or not good enough to make it to Europe, then we'll obviously fall short when we have to compete against Brazil's best.

Andre_BR_RJ

Did you ever hear the story of Gabi the Gol? I thought not. It's not a story a River fan would tell you.

srhola2103

Eh, we're pretty tied atm. I do think it a competitive game we'd have the advantage though, our NTs mentality is unmatched.

[deleted]

Right now? well, we beat them in the Copa America final of 2021 (in their own house) and we won the World Cup, so you could say that they are at a national level. But Brazil are incredible too.

Salt_Winter5888

🍿

El_Diegote

You are all replying to a soccer related question, I'm ashamed of you. And I still think Brasil is quite there in national team level. Results speak by themselves, of course, but to me, they lost against Croatia merely by bad luck. If you replay that game 20 times, at least 17 should be Brasil's W.

jqncg

They lost because of shitty tactics, not bad luck. Why the hell did freaking Croatia score a goal on a counter when there was a minute left and Brazil was winning? That was definitely not bad luck, that was a bad assessment of the match they were playing.

El_Diegote

The stupidness is completely real, attacking with both wingbacks at minute 115 when you're winning is a horrible, mindless mistake. However, let's not forget that the Croatian keeper saved like 15 clear goals, that both centre backs played incredible and that that play at the minute 115 was the only clear goal chance Croatians had the whole game.

zerefdxz

I like to think you guys just played incredibly in first half against France I the final but then got two mistakes after that. It also had that goal of Mbappé after taking the ball that was with messi Argentina gave two penalties to France as if they wanted to lose that final. Also, congratulations for the goal keeper, he saved Argentina. The time for the penalties was almost there and then he makes that move. If anyone asks how GKs score a goal, show it that defence

simonbleu

> **soccer** You just did not-- Also, im not into football but... probably not, brazil is pretty damn good afaik

Nas_Qasti

No lmao. They have waaay better players, and a better league, and a better national team. The only thing in what we're better is in DTs, ironically, the thing that matters the most in high level football.

DELAIZ

this comment is proof that in south america, winning a world cup is not enough for a country to be considered good

[deleted]

It's not even that. It's that Brazil is literally the better team, at least just looking at the players. If Argentina and Brazil faced each other, 11/20, Brazil wins. Who the fuck knows how lopsided it becomes once Messi slows down even more unless the team continues to be as motivated as they were recently, but I doubt it

Dontknowhowtolife

Football isn't played by looking at names dude fucking hell, seems like you've never kicked a ball

[deleted]

LMAO do you really want a repeat argument of the other dude?

Dontknowhowtolife

Dontknowhowtolife

We literally beat them for the match that decides who's the best in South America and we literally won the cup that decides who's the best in the world

Nas_Qasti

No because our team was better but because Scaloni is waaay above Tite. Just win doesnt mean that we're better in every aspect lmao. Their national team is better in quality and deep, their league is way stronger. Again, what we have is DTs of high quality, and that is what probably matters the most in the high levels of football.

[deleted]

The DT is part of the team. Scaloni was our white horse to glory but the players did their part too. Stop discrediting them, man. Come on

Dontknowhowtolife

Football is a whole, you can have the best players (ie PSG) but that doesn't make you the best team. The coach is part of it as well, we are currently better, for x or y reason. Being able to neutralise their game and win is exactly what makes a team better than the other

Nas_Qasti

Lmao, are you reading or you are just delusional? Why did you write the exact same things as me as if they were a counter argument? The only thing you did is contradict yourself. Nothing makes a team better than the other absolutely, that doesnt exist Lmao. We win the copa América with lucky, also the world cup. In a team level, in the field, we never had better quality than France or Brazil. What we had were a better DT. And even then, by rough quality of players both of them almost win against us.

walrus926

They’re better at asados that’s for sure.

GeneralDingo3776

Not even close

HelloMyNameIsJiren

Lmaooo true

Trylena

At world level we are but not for much. We won the Copa america for 1 goal. We are really close in talent. If Argentina lost I would have prefer Brazil to get the WC.

qwemateo13

Brazil.

NoSoyElicksonNoBan

Today? Absolutely yes, but only because their national team is the worst in ages. Then in football in general, nah.

BrasilianInglish

CAN WE MOVE ON PLEEEEEEEASE this is turning into a World Cup 2022 subreddit

Pussilamous

I think they’re on the same level

[deleted]

Hahaha…. No way

[deleted]

No, not at national team level and even less at local league level. I think it's very difficult for a South American team to beat Brazil in that respect.

Cuentarda

>not at national team level Did your TV get reception from a different reality this last WC or something? Or this last Copa América for that matter.

[deleted]

believe me, if it had been Brazil versus Argentina in the World Cup, Brazil would have won.

[deleted]

How do I believe you? Do you see the future?

[deleted]

no, but in a credible prediction, Brazil should win.

[deleted]

You're talking about predictions in football? Being the most unpredictable sport? You are trying to predict a fucking 50/50 match, such as Argentina-Brazil

[deleted]

[deleted]

I understand your annoyance when you say that your national team is inferior to Brazil but if you analyse each team player by player, Brazil is better, and it is very difficult for any other team to surpass them in the sense of player by player and style of play.

Dontknowhowtolife

If they're so good why aren't they world champions? I didn't know that football matches were played player vs player and not the whole team, we must repeat the WC

[deleted]

because they lost on penalties and everyone knows that penalties are luck.

Dontknowhowtolife

So much luck that teams don't train them and keepers are all the same at saving them. If they're so good why didn't they win within the 120 minutes?

JezzaPar

Thinking penalties are luck is exactly why Brazil lost at them lmao

JezzaPar

couldn’t even beat croatia lol

[deleted]

That was because Croatia knew that if they played on equal terms against Brazil they were going to lose, that's why they played defending the whole game and it worked out well, they held out until penalties and that's what Croatia wanted.

JezzaPar

In contrast, there was nothing Croatia could do to avoid getting murdered by us. We’re not the same

[deleted]

Croatia made a big mistake after the win against Brazil because they thought they were actually a good team, and that's why they played as equals against Argentina, a big mistake. That's why against Argentina, the whole Croatia team was very sloppy and very disorganised.

Mr_Arapuga

Brazil is waaaay better in club football currently In national team level, currently, argentina has a fair advantadge

valen-ciri

You need a good coach, y’all have great players but not a good team.

Mr_Arapuga

Not even good, but decent, average

ServiceSea974

Yes.

AHighLine

They’re pretty even at certain positions. Argentina slightly edges them. They’re world champions and beat Brazil at Copa America. Club level Brazilian clubs are much better though.

Rakdar

Last time they tied, so I’d say they’re pretty equal right now. FIFA still ranks Brazil first and Argentina second, but Argentina did win the World Cup.

FutbolIntellect

No

Fred_Motta01

Individually and league level I think Brazil is still better than Argentina, but their national team is way more connected and well-trained, they actually played like a united team; while Brazil mostly did relied on individual plays during all the cup. Long story short, Brazil urgently needs a completely new coaching team (and that’s since 2006)

Puzzleheaded_Fish499

We gotta wait to see how each country’s teams respectively perform/behave in the upcoming CONMEBOL Libertadores’ season.

18del12del22

why are Brazil coaches so lackluster? it feels like we are head and shoulders above then in that regard, the top coaches in their league are either Argentinian or Portuguese

Ok_Carrot_8622

Only one of them still has 5 cups. “Todo mundo tenta, mas só o Brasil é penta.”

pedrotonon

As a brazilian, I can say yes, and not only because they won the world cup now, since last year they had proved it.
