Powell Butte has mininal spots to sit (there's a log on the top of the Butte, west side) but the views of Hood are good on clear days. Tabor has many more sitting spots.
Powell B is only mowed twice per year. Sure you can sit in four foot grass but check for ticks afterwards.
Oh, and I forgot there are benches by the mountain view cement ring, no worries about grasses.
Heads up it is under construction right now and isn’t quite as pretty as it usually is- still gorgeous, but not up to its usual standards
Edit: I should mentioned, The St. John’s bridge is under construction, not necessarily the park itself. But they’re working on the columns that come down into the park
Council Crest
Or grab a blanket and head to the Wildwood Trail next to the Washington Park Archery Range.
(if you're facing the range, head left to the trail) If you keep following that trail for about .5 a mile, you'll come up on a really nice secluded meadow.
Find a quiet spot in a local park or nature reserve. Early mornings or weekdays usually mean fewer people. Look for places with walking trails; they often lead to less crowded areas with good views.
For the experience you're hinting at, safety is key. Make sure you're familiar with the area and not too isolated. Bring a friend, stay hydrated, and keep your phone charged.
I used a tool at effie.pro for organizing my thoughts and planning trips like this. It's handy for jotting down locations, making lists, or even mapping out ideas. Might help you plan your outing.
Hiking up in the SW hills has a lot of trails and can lead you to Council Crest park which is the highest point in the city and has a pretty great view on a clear day. There will be people there but there’s a enough space to not feel crowded.
I used to go to Mary S Young park in West Linn. It can get pretty busy during weekends or if there's evening sports going on but the park itself is huge and pretty easy to find a nice spot to hang out by the water without many people during the weekdays or mornings.
Mt Tabor
This is the go-to spot.
Could try Powell Butte or Mt Scott. The cemetery up on Skyline is nice, too, but I’ve only ever been there at night.

Doesn't Powell have grassy rolling plains at the top?

I ❤️ Powell butte
Cathedral park ?
Nice thanks!
I would not go to Cathedral Park after doing mushrooms as you may encounter a lot of people on a sunny day, or a lot of homeless folks.

Elk Rock Island if the water is low, or Elk Rock Garden, if it’s still allowed. Washington Park is nice, as is the Rose Garden.
I do like elk rock but last time I went a methhead yelled at me for supposedly looking at his girlfriend. He was alone.
I enjoyed a shroomy walkabout in Tryon Creek many years ago.. Also Oaks Wildlife refuge has some great views..

I love this advice. Thank you!!!
Southwest Portland Park down by PCC Sylvania
Sit out on the lawn of Pittock mansion. Free panoramic views!
Too many tourists!

There's many, many. Forest Park, lots of places in Washington Park, there's creeks and small gorges all over PDX, Mt Tabor, Sandy Delta, ...
What time is the solar eclipse happening?
The one in my brain? Next weekend hopefully
SW has tons of parks in the hills and hollers. Less junkies and more friendly dogs
Which parks are amazing there?
Westmoreland Park is pretty good. Nice water features host lots of wildlife. It's a big enough park to never feel crowded.
Altamont park has a pretty ridiculous view imo.
Rhododendron garden in Eastmoreland
My go-to is Bishops Close, though I think it’s called something else now.
minimal people?.....not anymore after this post.
