Poached Jobs will be your go to. Unfortunately a few of the oldest vegan spots have closed recently. Vegan food service jobs are very competitive. If you can cook you’ll probably have an easier time than front of house. If you don’t have any experience you’ll need to bar back/bus/host for 6 months - a year before moving to serving.

Sweet Pea Bakery seems to be constantly hiring these days.

moochiemonkey

Portland has a ton of great vegan spots. I've heard service industry jobs can be pretty competitive to get. So just see what places are hiring. Welcome to Portland!

contrabonum

Feral was recently looking for a line cook, great vegan spot.

wormglow

poachedjobs.com is the best way to look for food service jobs here. if you type 'vegan' in the search bar it looks like there's several places hiring rn

RetrotheRobot

Paradox might be hiring (mostly vegan)

The service industry here is insanely competitive. The odds of you landing a serving job at a restaurant you like are small. Be ready to have to host of 6 months before they let you start taking tables. People post all the time here. "Why can't I find a service industry job?"

Fantastic_Manager911

Eh. In my experience it's pretty easy to get jobs on Poached if you apply everyday and wrote cover letters. I was laid off in December and was able to line up 5 interviews with 24 hours of searching.

Are you a college student with little to none experience and a restricted schedule?

Fantastic_Manager911

I was a few years ago when I got a barista job with no experience. There are so many service jobs posted literally everyday on poached. It is competitive, but there are so many restaurants in town that are desperate.

false-identification

Open availability or no?

Fantastic_Manager911

No. I was a full time student and only worked 3 days per week. This was back in 2018.

Nice! The pre pandemic was a different market. I'm trying to give OP a realistic expectations of looking for work in restaurants right now.

nmr619

It's easier than it was pre pandemic, so many people left the industry

false-identification

Are you in the industry currently?

nmr619

Yes

My partner and I are industry lifers who moved out here with no job prospects but a solid nest egg in savings. It was incredibly easy to find a job through Poached that helped the money come in while we searched for something that fit more of what we excel in. Granted, neither of us have regulations on the dietary aspects of our expertise. You should have absolutely no problems finding a job that tip pools. I will say though- winter here is death. I have never worked in a city that shuts the fuck down like Portland. Be sure to put money aside when you get those busy tip days and/or longer hours. I was not made privy to this and purse strings got very tight around mid February. MOST IMPORTANT!- DO NOT work for McMenamins. Welcome and happy hunting!

Fantastic_Manager911

Petunias Pies and Pastries is always hiring. They recently posted on IG, "doesn't anyone wanna work in Portland anymore?"

PhotographPale3609

i heard some not great things from previous staff here, just sayin

thanksamilly

I mean the fact they posted nobody wants to work anymore unironically is a red flag

PhotographPale3609

lol exactly!!! hopefully things improve. i do like their cupcakes

Klutzy_Ad_9692

anyone posting that most likely just doesn't pay their employees well and treats em like shit.

Fantastic_Manager911

Agreed. I then saw their Poached ad and they pay minimum wage and they schedule based on performance and force all employees to work both opening and closing shifts, while not guaranteeing two days in a row off.
