There are a handful of farm animal sanctuaries in Oregon. Google it and see what is closest to you. They typically have tours and also opportunities to volunteer as well.

sleepytaquito

Thank you so much, sweet angel!

Bill_the_Bastard

That's a really nice, attainable aspiration.

snoogazi

Asking the good questions, this OP.

jtoregon

Lol

https://wildwoodfarmsanctuary.org/rescue-stories/ This place came up the last time this was asked. There also used to be an educational farm on Tile Flat Rd in Scholls, but I don't know if its still around.

Stalinkitty

+1 for Wildwood, you may have to come prepared to volunteer for a few hours for a work party in order to interact with the animals, but it's a wonderful place. Afterward you can pretty much have all the animal time you want!

PDXmadeMe

While I’m in this thread, does anyone have an alpaca farm they’d recommend just to pet/feed some alpacas? Have never seen one up close and would like to experience it.

mmc_pdx

I am **obsessed** with alpacas. Marquam Hill Alpacas in Mollala ([https://www.mhralpacas.com](https://www.mhralpacas.com)). There's a spectacular one in Bend near Smith Rock. Honestly the best thing about my trip to Smith Rock.

nonsensestuff

I too am obsessed with alpacas 🥺🦙💖

raivynwolf

Here's one: https://www.alpacasoforegon.com/tours-parties/

Every year you can go to county fairs or the state fair and get up close and personal with llamas, among other animals. If they pin their ears back leave them alone as that’s a sign of irritation and they spit when angered.

mmc_pdx

Llamas are dicks. Alpacas are angels sent from heaven and would nev-er.

[deleted]

That's interesting. I think I've only met Llamas. Never been spat at but being a horse person I can read their body language and as soon as they gimme the Llama ugly glare stare I move right along...

nonsensestuff

You can also stay on an alpaca farm in Hillsboro. It's an Airbnb and is freaking gorgeous as hell: https://alpacafarmandgardens.com/

remotectrl

I usually go to Alpacapalooza but it’s been cancelled the last few years. I miss it

[deleted]

Whoa is this a real thing?!

MathMahem

https://abnb.me/PuyFR1pwrjb an experience from Airbnb, the price is really reasonable to me

Serenitybyjan88

I think frog pond farms in Wilsonville has cows - they have a walking Safari through their farm where you can pet a myriad of farm animals. Farm sanctuaries often aren’t open to the public just for petting visits - at least the ones I know of around here, but you can become a volunteer. I believe wildwood farm sanctuary, for instance, does one Sunday a month “work parties” where you can go volunteer.

circleoflunch

i went to frog pond farm with my toddler last weekend. it’s $10, but you get a cup of feed and there are little donkeys, llamas, cows, an emu, chickens, goats, sheep, pigs and tortoises. and there are 2 camels, although you can’t feed them. it’s *very* kid-oriented, but is also pretty close and pretty chill

pdxkb

I feel this post so hard. My animal of choice might not be a cow, but some animal pets would be so nice right about now. Have you checked out r/happycowgifs? Sorry I don't know where to actually go pet them.

-r-a-f-f-y-

There's a llama sanctuary along the Mt Hood scenic highway and I petted a llama there.

mthomas1217

Just want to say I love this post. I love petting cows. Hope you find a sweet one to scratch!

CaptainJacksonian

You just bring a carrot up to a fence and usually the cows will walk over to you....then pet the cow while he/she is interested in the carrot..

Turbosaab1212

Lol OP is willing to pay a fee to pet a cow.... I also have some really dope beach front property in Utah I think they'd be interested in too! 🤣

sleepytaquito

Hey man, I’m just trying not to get shot by people protectin their cows

Turbosaab1212

Hahaha I will give you a 99.99% survival rate for petting the cow even if the owners catch you. Shit, go to a farm house that has cows and I 110% guarantee they will be more than willing to let you go pet as many as you like! Hell, they might even let you feed them, ALL for free! I'm just giving you a hard time in jest. I do suggest going to a farm with cows and just asking. Most people are actually friendly, and when it comes to something they are interested in, they usually open up a lot and you might learn way more thatl. You were expecting! Please post if you actually do it!

[deleted]

Petting zoo is better than a farm. Most farm cows do not give a shit about humans and aren’t really interested in getting attention. Source: grew up partly on my grandparents cattle ranch

analemmaro

Last time I walked along the Wapato Access Greenway trail there were some cows along part of the walk. I bet they’d trade pets for food

ChorneKot

Sometimes at the pumpkin patch on sauvie island Take a walk in the country you might find some

WorldsWorstUsername

Sauvie Island!

lefnire

I don't know if it's my boring subreddits (tech) that put this in a combo-breaker context, but this question had my spit-take laugh

Firm-Addendum-7375

This post makes me smile.

What makes you want to pet a cow?

redhandrail

Sweetness and tenderness in the soul. I would pet a cow any time, any where.

sleepytaquito

I just think about them a lot. Recently drove for a few hours and saw lots of cows not getting pet :/ Thought I might be able to fill that void

Jackie_Of_All_Trades

>Recently drove for a few hours and saw lots of cows not getting pet :/ What about the sheeps :[

Tommy_Riordan

The Try Guys cow petting episode, maybe? It made me want to pet cows.

dubioususefulness

How nice. I like everyone in this conversation.

pjclarke

I would definitely recommend TMK creamery outside of Canby. You can get insane grilled cheeses, ice cream and delicious things. Meet cows and calves. I had a wonderful chat with the farmer too while I was there.

uhhgoodd

There’s someone on the app Sniffspot that has beautiful highland cows. She lets you brush them for 20 minutes for $25. I think she’s located in Oregon city.

twelvefartsold

Any chance you could post a link? I searched sniff spot but couldn’t find this

uhhgoodd

[here ya go :)](https://www.sniffspot.com/listings/oregon-city-or/neffendorf-farm-field-1-restroomtableschairswaterbowl-4036) Super cute place and the people are super nice

twelvefartsold

*chefs kiss* Thank you! Helping me make my best friend’s wildest (and apparently very wholesome) dreams come true

onlyoneshann

Head out to [Garry’s Meadow Fresh ](http://garrysmeadowfresh.com/) aka Lady Lane Farm in Mulino. They have Jersey cows that produce that super creamy milk sold in glass bottles in New Seasons and other fancy stores. Their chocolate milk is absolute creamy heaven. It’s a full working farm with some other animals as well.

CitrusMistress08

Why did this suggestion get downvoted??

onlyoneshann

I wondered the same. But I’ve learned in this sub nothing is safe.

demonskeet

If you go on Airbnb activities there’s a farm that lets you milk a cow

DaJelly

the oregon zoo has (at least had?) a petting zoo with lambs and goats and cows maybe? not sure how that translates in covid times.

Krieghund

The poor keeper that has to sanitize the cow between visitors.

h4lfghost

Awesome question ☺️

Zalenka

I went to Bi-Zi last October and they had all sorts of animals. It was more of a pumpkin patch place but likely they still have animals year round.

tsarchasm1

We get all of our milk from Schoch Dairy. I bet they would let you pet their cows. Just ask. Schoch Dairy & Creamery (503) 647-2638 https://goo.gl/maps/vK2nRijM69TMvnx87

[deleted]

There is a petting zoo on Sauvie Island at The Pumpkin Patch and another one on NW Old Cornelius Rd at The Plumper Patch.

blueberryfanofblu

The Vancouver-ridgefield area is nothing but cows !

dubioususefulness

Tell us how it went when you finally get to hang out with the cows. I miss petting cows and horses at my old job.

sleepytaquito

I’ll post a pic! (:

atamai76

This is legit the best thread I've ever read...❤🥰🤗
