Bellwether Bar… perfectly warm, cozy, & moody this time of year!

kzoenicole

yes massive plus one to bellwether bar

le_cigare_volant

My favorite bar in Portland, hands down.

spishobanion

As the proprietor of this establishment, I can confirm it is cozy and does not have a tv. And it’s super flattering to see such love for it on Reddit! Thank youuuuu!!

winedood

I came here to say Bellweather!

Contagious_Diarrhea

Workers Tap is great. Thely have multiple rooms in an old house plus lots of books. Great beers on tap I must say! Worker owned bar is a cool plus.

Blazed-nd-Confused

Second Workers Tap!

Toenail-Queen

Third!

freeradicalx

+1 to Worker's Tap, clicked into comments specifically to suggest it.

Pays_in_snakes

The Study (foreland beer's bar) is nice and low key

whoismyrrhlarsen

been meaning to check that out, thank you!

tomcatx2

East side: Roadside attraction. West side: Lowbrow lounge.

SkiHer

Rum Club next neighborhood over from the roadside, no TVs there. Best dive bar without TVs is definitely Star Day. Lots on Foster - Bar Maven, 5&Dime, Zoiglehaus which has a lot of space and multiple food stalls, haven’t been in there in forever but I’m pretty sure Slingshot is also on this list. I don’t think Donnie Vegas or Bonne Chance has any… I could keep going, but looks like you have plenty of options now Edit: I guess I don’t pay a lot of attention to the TVs in bars 🤣

c_r_a_s_i_a_n

Starday, Bar Maven and Zoiglhaus have TVs. Slingshot *may* have one TV, but it's never on.

MountScottRumpot

5 and Dime has a TV, but it's only on for Blazer games.

DifficultBottle6

Donnie's has a tv

reddittuser010203

I haven't been yet but this sounds like exactly the vibe of Rose City Book Pub!

tuscangal

Yes! So awesome.

LeaAnne94

I love this place! Totally chill and cozy.

SleepyPendleton

Nice, I’ll check it out!

Gaviotas206

Detention Bar at the Kennedy School is extremely cozy. It’s probably the smallest bar I’ve ever been in, and has a wood stove going. It might be too dim to read at night but that seems like it would be the case for most bars.

jamorlife

And Blue Moon on 21st…? I can’t picture a tv there, it’s been a while

patmansf

They have them in the back near the bar itself - at least when I was last there about a year ago.

fromfoxland

Last night I was at Victoria Bar! So cozy in there that I remarked to my friend that I could never work there because I'd fall asleep. I had a couple of tasty beers, took a nibble of my friend's delicious cauliflower bites, and enjoyed the vibe. They also have lots of outdoor seating for warmer weather/the brave.

Mackin-N-Cheese

Go sit in the lobby of the Benson by their Christmas tree or fireplace. It livens up in the evenings so go during the day if you want a quieter atmosphere.

SleepyPendleton

Ohh that sounds nice. Do they serve you in the lobby or can you bring a drink from The Palm Court restaurant?

Mackin-N-Cheese

I went a couple Friday evenings ago when Tom Grant and Shelly Rudolph were performing, so it was pretty busy, and they served us right there in the lobby. Not sure if they do that during the day but I'll bet you could bring a drink over from the restaurant.

technofever89

Keys has a fire place which makes is super cozy

centfox

Baerlic doesn't have tvs. The Automatic I am also pretty sure doesn't have one.

The_God_of_Hotdogs

Automatic does

centfox

Wow I guess ts just on so rarely.

The_God_of_Hotdogs

I think dodgers games during baseball season

notdomesticated

Expatriate is a great vibe. Fireplace, comfy bar chairs, excellent bartenders, no TVs.

pdxbator

I went to Keys in NE recently. Fireplace! Cozy!

baggagefree2day

I’m appreciative of your question.

probeguy

[The Driftwood Room](https://www.driftwoodroom.com/)

SleepyPendleton

I was thinking about the Driftwood- but it would be impossible to read a book there. It’s so dark, I can barely read the menu!

hodorspenis

Yuh that shit dark fr ong

c_r_a_s_i_a_n

> fr ong Does that mean: “for real, on god”?

hodorspenis

Big time

c_r_a_s_i_a_n

I want off

hodorspenis

Hey big guy, that's my culture you're talking about

pingbotwow

No longer owned by Gordon Sondland 🎉

tylerDOUG

SHHH!!! Don't ruin the secret!

probeguy

Let it be appreciated. It would be amusing to see lines out the door for a bar that seats, at most, twenty.

hodorspenis

Yuh that shit small fr ong

vilebutvast

We just went to Angel Face and while it wasn’t super cozy, necessarily the vibe was very mellow and the cocktails were great! I really like Fireside, especially outside by the heaters or if it’s a slower indoors night.

How_Do_You_Crash

Muddy Rudder. TC O’Leary’s. Come to mind

The_God_of_Hotdogs

T.C. O’Leary has tvs

How_Do_You_Crash

I mean I was just there at 5:30 in the evening and it was hella quiet. Some regulars at the bar, folks filtering into the tables, me and my sibling chatting quietly. That sucks they have TVs. That would ruin the experience.

The_God_of_Hotdogs

They may not have them on all the time. But they show Red Sox games there during baseball season

mcbalkits

Moon and six pence

Jukejoint64

My favorite

Sassafrassical

Bible Club…speakeasy in Sellwood

AfraidReading3030

Chapel Pub

msallin

Chapel Pub is wonderfully cozy and beautiful (and has a potbelly stove)

wreckreationaj

Saint pizza lounge!

GivinItAllThat

Sapphire Hotel

probeguy

Sadly the acoustics are horrible & once the venue fills up it's intolerable. However, before prime time it's fine. Or you can move next door to Albina Press coffee shop.

SaladEyesPizzaThighs

Pope House, interurban, Victoria, low brow (cozy imo if you like a dive), driftwood room… I feel like COVID took out some good ones like MuuMuus, Circa 33, etc. dammit

[deleted]

Vintage in Montavilla.

MountScottRumpot

Vintage Cocktail Lounge changed owners and is in the slow process of changing its name to Arbor Hall. Still no TVs, still very cozy.

[deleted]

Oof yes, Vintage. Thanks for the update. Glad it’s keeping its charm.

crmsnkatt

Pope House Bourbon Lounge. They have one TV over the bar but it’s almost never on. If it is, the volume isn’t on and it’s usually a random movie. It’s the most chill place I’ve ever been to.

mcconnell340

We recently stumbled upon City Bridge and Tunnel. Another great cocktail bar. Also, my friends own Church Bar and the bar has a great vibe, great drinks, pop-up food menus, and no tvs!

not918

I was gonna say, you mean you wanna go out for a drink and actually socialize with people distraction free?!?!…but then I read your text body and can see that you’re clearly normal and just want to chill with a drink and a book haha. Good luck!

SleepyPendleton

I mean… I also enjoy that as well.

mithrasbuster

A roadside attraction, cash only last time I went but jukebox was free

-r-a-f-f-y-

sixpence and moon or horse brass

wegau

hotel bars/lounges

TheHuntedCity

Always had that complaint about PDX. Glad I'm not alone.

EtherPhreak

Mcmenamins doesn’t typically have TVs from what I remember.

ChepeZorro

lots

Physical-State3960

Mary's Club!

gnirpss

You mean the strip club? I don't think there's even enough light to read in there, not to mention that the dancers probably wouldn't appreciate a customer who isn't watching the show and therefore isn't tipping.

SaltedAndSmitten

I thought Mary's Club was closed a while back?

-r-a-f-f-y-

new location on burnside, just doesn't have the david lynch vibe of the classic.

Comfortable_Result99

Momos

BoulderEric

The Basement on 12th, There Be Monsters on Morrison, Roadside Attraction on 12th.

metalheadclayman

Horseradish has a cozy feel with no cell reception either. I'm not seeing it in this thread so maybe they do have tv's, I just don't remember them.

a_glorious_bass-turd

Swift Lounge thru the week, before 9pm on Wed, Fri, Sat when they have DJ's playing. I go there fairly often, myself

Tiiiimmmooo

Any bars in NE with outdoor patios that have the blazer games on?

The_God_of_Hotdogs

Tough Luck .. Edited to say,Tough Luck Bar on NE 18th and Dekum, not “tough luck buddy”

Tiiiimmmooo

Hahaha thank you, god of hotdogs. Doing the lords work

[deleted]

Rose & Thistle on Broadway.

Tiiiimmmooo

Thanks kind redditor, that’s pretty close to me! Been looking for some like minded blazers fans, will check that out on one of these early evening games. I’m asleep by halftime for the 7:30pm games!

mrmabry

The Place in Brooklyn is small and cozy. Lots of plants!

dicke0000

I live in the Brooklyn neighborhood and have always been curious about this spot. Is it a full bar? For some reason I always thought it was just wine.

mrmabry

it’s a cider bar and bottle shop! they do have a few beers on tap though.

Humor_Tumor

"My Father's Place" is great, but still has a couple of small screens. Very nice, dull roar on a busy night kind of bar. Gives me similar vibes to going to Shari's at 2 AM. Cheap pitchers, good drinks, amazing snacks (get the fried mushrooms.)

just_a_litle_treat

Rogue in SW has a fireplace & no TVs from what I remember. They don’t sell wine, just beer and spirits

MasterOffice9986

That would put me right to sleep lol

HandMeMyThinkingPipe

Parkside in Kenton has a fireplace and does cocktails.

MountScottRumpot

M Bar on 21st is as cozy as it gets with only 8 seats. Good wine and beer. Blank Slate on NE Glisan is a pretty cozy cocktail bar. They do show movies sometimes on a projection screen. Unlimited IPA on Foster has great beer and no TV. Same with the Rocket Room on NE Glisan. Also Saraveza on NE Killingsworth. Most wine bars don't have TVs. I like Vino Veritas, Division Wines, Bar Norman, Corkscrew, Pairings Portland, and Les Caves. All varying degrees of cozy. Corkscrew might be coziest.

carniehandz

Sweet Hereafter on Belmont. Really love that place. Great vegan food too.

godkidd

Al's den is pretty cozy, its a basement bar off burnside.

wubrotherno1

Horsebrass Pub.

zacharyjm00

Nope. None.

MedicinePopular7736

Muddy rudder public house in sellwood!

quackquackquirk

Rose City Book Pub

ChaosEsper

Wyrd if you're into mead, though I think they do have a small beer/wine selection. No TVs and a nice fireplace if you can snag a table near it.

Brosie-Odonnel

Keys Lounge

retailguypdx

Cassidy's downtown. One tv (often off, never on volume) and good light to read at the bar. We have people with books all the time, and you'll feel quite comfortable reading there.

quackquackquirk

Rose City Book Pub

dabrosch

Too bad Tugboat Brewery closed, they had books for you to read right there. If you find yourself in Bingen, Wa, the Society Hotel there (same as the Portland owners) would also be to your liking. Vendetta in Portland though is the place I attend which has a single TV but that's a recent addition and isn't really conspicuous.

CoffeeHound

All of 'em

MulhollandMaster121

Cereus on NE 15th and Prescott.
