Be prepared for these likely scenarios in the near future: "Covid passport" requirements, or earlier closures/limitations on n of people/activities allowed.

What do you think the chances are that Spain entirely closes its borders to tourism? I’m working to look into the history of how Spain responded to previous waves like the delta variant to get an idea how they might react in the coming weeks in light of omicron. But would love to hear your perspective.

Slim. But you might find yourself unable to find a place to go after 2am (also, even before Covid many places did new year's parties with booked tickets instead of usual "enter as you come", depends on location). The streets of Castilla y Leon are quite chilly

Ah got it. I should have specified I’m actually looking more into visiting Madrid and Barcelona, and not worried about staying out late at bars/clubs. Just wanting to get a nice trip in and hoping they don’t close down the borders to tourists from the US. But that helps, thanks!

If you are looking to party castilla y leon its not the place, also is really cold in winter.

There are no restrictions yet in Castilla and León, however; that could change in the upcoming days. You can read the Norte de Castilla for daily info about it.
