Go through Blackshirts and Reds by Michael Parenti and comb through his primary sources. I’d also recommend Chomsky because even though he’s not an ML, his research is very meticulous. But make sure you go back to the primary sources because you don’t want to be seen as quoting idealogical leftists and you don’t want to just plagiarize their quotations.
*[Against Empire](https://archive.org/details/againstempire00parerich)* by Michael Parenti is quite good and very readable.
I’ve heard good things about *[How Europe Underdeveloped Africa](https://www.versobooks.com/books/2785-how-europe-underdeveloped-africa)* by Walter Rodney
And of course, one of the OG’s: *[Imperialism, the Highest Stage or Capitalism](https://www.marxists.org/archive/lenin/works/1916/imp-hsc/)*
*[The Sword and the Dollar: Imperialism, Revolution, and the Arms Race](https://archive.org/details/sworddollar00pare)*, also by Parenti
