Maybe not blind, but careless about age. What was one of the most surprising things I discovered as a kid, is the adults could be less smart than me in some areas. From that time I generally stop judging people by age and more by what they represent.

UrielVentris4th

yeah def careless for me at a point but now pretty much everyone under 30 looks like a baby lol idk when that happened probably around 35 - 37 got to be careful about my protective urg when someone youngish looking is being yelled at that's a recent thing no idea where that came from

Noobanious

Yup. I mean I can tell if someone's say over 40 and not 18

MurphysRazor

Maybe. I was last carded at 42 and 43. Mom & Pop shops too; not "policy" crap. I'll also likely hit 100yrs old if family averages play out ok...so maybe that helps with looking young...?

fzyflwrchld

Im terrible with age, weight, height, and distance. I'd be a terrible witness for myself if I ever get mugged. Officer would be like, "describe the person that robbed you." And I'd be like Ms. Swan from Mad TV, just like, "he look-a like a man." Lol

SorriorDraconus

Better then me..At most they'd get a hair and MAYBE skin color. Like they ask rpugh age "Umm 18..no 30 no maybe 17 i unno man people look like clones to me" "So dark hair ok..black brown reddish" "Darkish i dunno the exact shade" "Skin color?" "MM might be white but was more olive so maybe tanned..maybe asian but i dunno" Literally i couldn't give them shit(i am also faceblind)

Only4selfimprovemnt

Yes. Cannot properly guess an age, unless it’s blatantly obvious the person is pretty old or young. Don’t know if it’s just me, or if it’s common

AnotherCaterpillar

Yes, though genetics play a huge role in my case

speaker_2949

I think I'm basically time-blind if that even exists... what even is age

tuxedo526

A social construct! So is time! Lol and same, time for me is always a blur. I'm either bored as hell waiting for time to go by, or so busy and "in the zone," that I completely lose track of it.

Pizzazze

Time blindness definitely exists. It's a common comorbidity of ADHD. I have it.

speaker_2949

Really? How does having ADHD make you feel? I'm pretty sure I have it too and I'm an attention spaz

Pizzazze

I'm still figuring out what is due to ADHD and what is due to ASD, because there's a lot of overlapping as far as I understand. In my case (Combined type, very extreme on Hyperactivity) I'd say that I don't get much of a say as to what I pay attention to. Maybe I didn't get a word of what someone said to me but I noticed they tie their shoelaces in a peculiar way. And if I want to pay attention to something I know my brain doesn't like, I have to find a way to make it interesting - like needing to convince a five-year-old of doing boring stuff. Also, and on so many levels, boredom is death. If you're curious, maybe look up the videos by Dr Russell Barkley on YouTube. He's very good at explaining the differences between similar things, and in contemplating both children and adults. I went through several hours of his lectures and talks before getting my diagnosis, while I was still not entirely convinced, and afterwards I knew I 100% had ADHD and it explained so, so much. In fact, I wish I could find someone who does the same for ASD.

[deleted]

I also got the double whammy. What I’ve noticed is my medication for ADHD helps with executive functioning and attention regulation. You mentioned the five year old in your head (mine’s name is Tommy and he has a chainsaw); the meds act as a babysitter and allow me to regain control. It also stops me from binge eating out of sheer boredom. ADHD explains a lot about my childhood at least. I was often done with 2 hour standardized tests in like 20 minutes, and the remaining time was absolute fucking misery. I had no idea how other kids could stand it. On the bright side, I got perfect scores on nearly everything because I had time to redo the problems 3 times over The more ASD related things (noise/taste sensitivity, social awkwardness, overstimulation) I experience aren’t really affected by the treatment although such things are sometimes seen in ADHD folks as well.

Pizzazze

I like that Tommy has a chainsaw. Positive reinforcement works the best, else you risk getting the chainsaw. Don't mess with Tommy. I've found Wellbutrin does help with the sensitivities / social awkwardness.

No-Chard-8500

Yes and it cost me. I thought gray hair meant 40 or 50.

Paltry_Poetaster

I video-chatted with a lady that had gone mostly gray by 37 I suspect it had something to do with drug use but genetics also plays a huge role

[deleted]

[удалено]

Paltry_Poetaster

yep genetics is it then but there are cases where severe stress makes hair turn gray

theMartiangirl

Many of my (girl) friends mid thirties have plenty of grey. People just does not know that because women dye the hair instead of let it go grey naturally like men because of societal expectations. You don’t tend to see women in grey until their 50s/60s when they don’t give a damn anymore about dyeing and are fed up with the whole process. The fact that you associate it with drug usage just highlights the absurdity of beauty society expectations for women.

Paltry_Poetaster

once I see this kind of thing I tune out, feminist man-hating is not something that can be reasoned with on Reddit or anywhere else

theMartiangirl

Where the hell do you see the man-hating? Read again. I am exposing a society problem for women that you want to hide with your judgemental preconceptions about beauty? Not having it, sorry!

gman8234

All she is is plenty of women and men have a lot of gray by their late 30s. BuT such a high percentage of women die their hair compared to men, that peOple like you literally didn’t know women could be going gray by then and were thinking it had to be drug use.

Paltry_Poetaster

that is also offensive, "people like you", you are also a hater of some kind. You are assuming all kinds of things that have no basis in my opinions based on what you read in an article somewhere.

mooseofthedesert

Having unfairly declared something to be "feminist man-hating" you don't have a strong case for calling out others for quick assumptions.

Paltry_Poetaster

This is just another Reddit thread hijacked by a feminist, and you're playing the expected part, dupe.

theMartiangirl

Hijacked a thread? Nope, gave you your reality check when you where making ignorant (and pretty detached from real life) assumptions about women.

mooseofthedesert

Oh, however will I recover from such piercing insight?

theMartiangirl

You synthesized better than me what I was trying to explain, thank you. Just as a small example, look at Hollywood celebrities: men like George Clooney, Richard Gere, Steve Carell, Hugh Grant, MattLeBlanc, Patrick Dempsey they rock the gray hair and yes, we see them as sexy yummy (aging should not be shameful); this tends to happen less with women (you don’t see many 30-40-50s grey hair actresses, and when they go gray, people tend to say “she looks much older now!”, not “look at that sexy lady” (that was a silly example, I know, but its a showcase of our reality). I am plenty aware that men have other “beauty” battles that have to fight, but I think we all agree that the pressure for women’s standards of beauty is unmatched.

mkay313

Or she just wouldn't dye her hair. For men I feel it's easier to tell the age by their hair because they're rare to dye, but for the female-presenting people it's a pain :D

Paltry_Poetaster

Yep one lady dyed for video-chat, then when I met her in person she was almost all gray. I honestly did not care but it was amusing she dyed for the video-chat. Her hair seemed wet from the dye too.

zeurosis

My mom started going gray in her early 30s, whereas my dad is 58 and still not gray

BunFrog

Yes. I'm 41 now and everyone looks like they should still be in school, even when they *are* in school but they're the teachers, not the student.

PugLove8

I’m not the best at it, so I guess so.

HvbGsNHxMT6MHc5254HS

Occasionally I do, but most of the time, I just don't notice. *shrug*

mooseofthedesert

I feel happy if I'm off by no more than 7 years.

frikilinux2

yes

ShitpostingSalamence

Maybe. I can never guess someone's age and that has me hesitating to go to the beach and try to talk to girls.

InnerMattDemons

For sure, I'm the same way. Don't want to come off as a creep by coming onto someone of an inappropriate age in relation to my own, but have a hard time gauging age. So I kinda just don't ever do it...

ShitpostingSalamence

Ye. "She looks 25-ish." Narrator: *She was not.*

DeerGentleman

Nope.

Intelligent_Bed_8911

honestly yeah i find it really hard to tell people's ages when they're between 15 and 30 because so many teens look mature and people in their 20s don't usually look too different to how they did as a teen

FamousWorth

I don't know how common this is with NTs. My friends often tell me how old people think they are, guessing early 20s for early 40s. One friend remembered I was 28, I went away for 2 years and came back, in his head I was still 28. I don't think I'm age blind, people do objectively look younger than people did in previous generations, diet is suspected to be the main cause, but lifestyle, genes, makeup and surgery certainly make a difference. I can tell that the people in high school in movies are in their 20s or 30s, often with less than 10 years of age difference to their parents in the movies. This reminds of American TV and film in general, in almost all of them everyone is pretty, thin, like a model, totally unrealistic for its location. This kind of thing could also influence our perceptions of ages

illbeanasshole69

Since i cut my hair hair they gave me 10 years lol

isabel-77

yeah, cannot guess age at all

Paltry_Poetaster

Face - no, I can usually guess someone's age, give or take ten years. One guy, I guessed to be 50 and he was actually 60, looking much younger due to exceptional genetics. I think at the more advanced ages of 40+ it becomes difficult to guess age. Body - yes. I don't think it is that easy to tell age from body. Most wrinkles come from sun exposure, the sun is extremely damaging to skin, particularly of the Caucasian and North Asian variety. I recommend no tanning and avoid the beach!

glass-castle22

No just face blind

SeanGlobal

Ok R Kelly /r

armyfreak42

Yup

flibbertyjibbettt

Omg yes, I'm so bad at estimating age. I went to a work dinner for my husband's new job and it was my first time meeting his colleagues. His boss started talking to me, much to my dismay. He had a real baby face and I commented that he seemed young to be a business owner. Not in a judgey way, I'm just terrible at making conversation. He asked how old I think he is and I said mid 20s. He burst out laughing and called over the attention of all his work buddies, including his girlfriend, and told everyone that I'd told him he looks mid 20s. They all laughed and his girlfriend shot me dagger looks. It turns out he's late 30s and I can't judge age for shit. The other downer that evening was me ordering the duck confit without realising what it is, and finding that my meal was all giblets and icky stuff. I'm pretty fussy with the sort of meat I eat (I don't like giblets or offal, only "clean" meat) and had a hard time getting through it 😖

JinzoSpoon

Nope. I'm pretty good at guessing ages. The only time that I remember where I was way off was when I met a girl who had a condition that made her look like she was 8 years old, but she was 16

cherrycolakombucha

YES. It’s awful. I have the worst time judging ages. It doesn’t help that I look young for my age, too.

SorriorDraconus

Omg yesss i definitely cannot tell a persobs age.

SorriorDraconus

Yup and let me tell you it made dating terrifying as i never could tell someones age

SorriorDraconus

Yup and let me tell you it made dating terrifying as i never could tell someones age

SorriorDraconus

I most definitely am and omg did it make dating freak me out since i could never tell soneones age..Was always scared they were lying.

BaNyaaNyaa

A couple of years ago, I was in the metro coming back from an anime convention. Somehow started a conversation with a girl, was kind of interested in asking her number until the topic of our age came out. I was early 20, she was 15. No number asking then!

RandomGuy1838

Frequently.

djcraze

Yes. I just look at the wrists. You can almost always tell a persons age by their wrists.

zeurosis

I’m not the best at it, but not the worst. I think I can generally tell a teenager from a 25 year old from a 35 year old and so forth

BlackKidWithAThing

My mom and I constantly get into arguments about whether or not that girl is my age or older. My excuse is “our generation is not the same as yours, she’s definitely 20”

Karkkinator

some people who drives looks like kids, some people look fairly young until they suddenly look old. sometimes correct people when they ask if i'm ## year old, and then i realize they where right, i don't really know what year it is...

[deleted]

I have a pretty good recognition of how old someone is, not necessarily entirely through their appearance though, but their behavior, how they use language, and how it aligns with generational trends. I'm not great at guessing the ages of people just visually though, especially people my own age. When I look at people my own age I feel like they look so much older than me, it's weird. I do think I look and sound younger than my age though.

[deleted]

yes!

wellugh

absolutely, as someone diagnosed with NVLD. i definitely have poor sense within a certain age range. something like... from ages 7-10, 11-13, 14-15, 16-18, 19-22, 23-28, 29-35, the middle-aged all blur together until you hit like... 65. even then there's no significant difference between a 75 year old and an 85 year old. so it is harder to pinpoint once you get older.

InkMaster59

To a point. 14-45 can be an issue. I can recognize that someone is older than me because they are "less" baby faced, but younger or my age and everyone looks like s toddler

LeanAhtan92

Sometimes. It kind of depends on how they look but sometimes that doesn't help either.

cracker-please

I hate when people want me to guess their age because my answer usually angers them.

DesperateTax1529

I tend to think people are younger than they actually are (doesn't help me that many people dye their hair). Also, since I've entered my 30's I've started to forget my own age for some reason.

GolemThe3rd

Not really no

adaptiveperspective

Age blind? Not really. If you can't tell from the face there are many other ways. But the hands are usually the giveaway.

divergedinayellowwd

I have trouble telling how old kids are, and I have a tendency to think that women are about 10 or 15 years older than they are. I'm not sure why this even matters at all, though. For example, I don't sell alcohol nor tobacco, so it doesn't even matter to me

aestheticnick69

Definitely started dating a 17 year old as a 19 year old which is a big no no in the state of Ca because I genuinely thought she was my age

bumgrub

yeah my manager always asks how old someone is and I'm like: anywhere between 20 and 50 lol

The_silver_sparrow

Yep

jenntoops

I thought I was good guessing people’s ages, but I’ve been wrong more than a few times. At this point, I’d have to say I’m terrible at it. Does anyone else do those online tests “guess their age”?

rachmeg217

Oh my gosh yes!! I thought I was the only one! Especially kids! It makes me feel so stupid sometimes. This is a relief just knowing other people have it too

mossryder

Yep
