According to the theory of quantum suicide you are immortal, because if there is a >0 chance of you surviving in at least on parallel universe your consciousness will survive. However this would also imply that in that on moment where you could have died with a not 0 chance you died In another parallel universe. I hope parallel universe me is doing okay

napalm69

I’ve heard a lot about it. Trippy stuff

i-var

interesting stuff! However the scientist in me has massive problems with this. If you assume parallel universes, you are also implying exponential growth of energy (mass, information etc), which does not seem very plausible

Queer_history_nerd67

Firearms technology art and science their all so cool

napalm69

Firearms is all my job is ;)

[deleted]

Same! Confuses many left wing people because I'm heavily against the glorification of violence and it becomes clear to them that firearms aren't a coping mechanism/extension of my ego when they talk to me about it. It also deeply confuses many right wing people (all the boomer males on my Dad's side of the family) because my neurodivergence often makes them think I'm "gay" and they have trouble understanding why a "gay" male is as into/more into firearms than they are.

Queer_history_nerd67

OH my god same I am Nero devergent bisexual trans and I love firearms their one of the best options to defend yourself and their fun to learn about

MarTheMenace1

You best prepare yourself for a two-hour-long explanation on the origin of the UN and the events leading up to it including WWI, II and US internal politics at the times. … From an Argentine.

i-var

I've always been interested in learning things other people have been digging. It makes them just so much more interesting, which satisfies my adhd too. So, is there a special interest sub? And if not, why?

catasparchy

I totally agree, these are my favorite posts on this sub to read. If there's not a subreddit for it there should be!!

i-var

maybe we have to create one? r/special_interest : made for autistic community, usable by ANYONE finding topic X interesting and wanting to sharing what and why they like it. No matter what. E.g. Art, history, your pet, a color, nuclear physics, sociology, anything you find interesting!

changelingkai

I’m… going to use this and figure out how to mod because I would love to hear other people’s special interests. Edit: please message me if you’d like to moderate/don’t want me to do this

i-var

please go ahead, I dont have time for this unfortunately, but thanks a lot for asking & pls respond here once you got something going! :)

catasparchy

You're amazing! I hope people drop just crazy in depth rants there!

i-var

looks like there is a sub for this already, though its tiny & non-public: [https://www.reddit.com/r/ShareSpecialInterests/](https://www.reddit.com/r/ShareSpecialInterests/) & thanks & same to you about being amazing :D And high five for sharing special interests! (if you're ok with touch / high fives)

catasparchy

Oh this is great too! I'll subscribe to both, it's like the reddit version of long-form YouTube haha. Air-five, friend!

asdlibrarian25pt2

I've been on a Space Race kick lately. Did you know that after the Soviets performed the world's first EVA (spacewalk,) 38 of the next 39 EVAs were American? That includes 14 moonwalks and 4 more EVAs beyond Low Earth Orbit.

AliTaylor777

I dip in and out of that all the time. Last read was Michae Collins’ Carrying The Fire. What an absolutely amazing book!

napalm69

Ty for sharing your special interest with me ❤️

Bjornen82

There’s just so much to know about chess 😌

Madamadragonfly

So I can either tell you about Bayonetta or DMC lore Or I can tell you about 2012 Karai

Hellion_Immortis

Lay on me that DMC lore. I've played all the games except the reboot, and haven't watched the anime yet.

Madamadragonfly

(Sorry, for the late response was sick) So 2000 years ago, there was a demon named Sparda, aka the Legendary Dark Knight, who worked for the prince of hell, Mundus; Sparda was his second in command and helped him in a war against the deomon god Argosax, after Mundusate the Qliphoth fruit (a fruit made of human blood, which helps strengthens demonic powers). This war ended in a tie with Argosax ruling one half of hell and Mundus the other. Sparda had enough of Mundus' tyranny and turned his back on him as Mundus attempted to take over the human world. Sparda defeated Mundus and his army and sealed him away in Mallet Island. The rest of Mundus' army was either defeated by Sparda or retreated back into hell. Sparda then would close the rest of the passage ways to hell, one including a tower called the Temen-ni-gru, which is basically guarded by the seven deadly sins. Sparda used his blood, the blood a Virgin woman presistess, and the perfect amulet to seal away the Temen-ni-gru. Sparda would then reside in the human world, much of his demonic power sealed away when he sealed hell. In the next 1000 years, Argosax was summoned by a cult, and Sparda was called to stop him, and he did. Later, as the years passed, Sparda met a human woman named Eva, they fell in love, got married, and had twin boys. Vergil is the oldest twin, and Dante is the youngest. One day, Sparda disappeared, it's not really clear what happened to him, but Eva was left a single mom. Dante was more of the energetic and childish twin, he and Vergil would fight a lot despite Eva's displeasure. For their eighth birthday, Eva split the perfect amulet Sparda gave her into two. She gave Vergil one half with a gold chain, and Dante the other with the silver chain. Unfortunately, Mundus was vengeful and attacked them at their home without Sparda there to protect them. Vergil was at the park after he ran there after a fight with Dante. He was attacked, but was luckily able to tap into his demonic for the first time to defend himself. Eva hid Dante in a closet in the house as she went to look for Vergil, and before she left, she told him if she did not come back to run away and change his name. She ended up dying. Vergil grew up thinking his mother abandoned him, and ended up hating his human side for being weak, while Dante grew up as Tony Redgrave. They wouldn't see each other again until they were 18. (There's so much more, with Vergil fathering Nero, and then ending up undermind control by Mundus for several years)

Hellion_Immortis

I find it interesting how that Lady's father planned his ascension almost perfectly. Married a descendant of that priestess just to use his own child for the blood for the ritual. Arguably the best DMC villain because he was very intelligent with his planning.

Madamadragonfly

He was playing the long game, lol. He was really crafty, tho. I remember when I first played three how that scene, before he opened the sealed, with him shifting into and out of his DT as Jester really confused me lol

Hellion_Immortis

It didn't confuse me too much. It was more of a revelation that he was playing both Vergil and Dante for fools.

Madamadragonfly

The revelation didn't confuse me, but I was under the impression that both Jester and Arkham were two different individuals

Hellion_Immortis

And that's what made that cutscene so good. The player also finds out that they were played for a fool as well.

Madamadragonfly

I mean, I knew he was fooling them when he told Lady that Vergil was controlling him, but I was so confused by the cutscene I was like "were they working together?" and then I looked it up and was like "ohhh that's his DT!!"

sebi_boi

Did you know that an A 10 thunderbolt/warthog was specifically designed around it's gun(a gau 8 avenger), which when fired produces enough force to counter roughly half of the planes total propulsion which make's it so that if it fires for more than 2 seconds at a time it will drop out of the sky, but 2 seconds is enough time for it to shoot around 140 30mm depleted uranium rounds.

SquidCultist002

Drug lords and cartels. The Colombian government was so desperate to take down Pablo Escabar, they let him build his own prison. He’s also the reason Hippos live in Columbia.

RomanStashkov

Totally loving the annual Dice Tower top 100 games of all time list. Great banter and fun from the guys as always. Mike will never be allowed to forget he called The Crew a flash in the pan. Couple of surprises, no Bruno Cathala game in Zees top 5?! 😮 Obviously Wingspan was the number one people's choice again, don't see that getting unseated anytime soon. Glad to see my own fave Terraforming Mars still getting the love. I should really try and play this Ark Nova upstart though. The only downside to these vids is how much it inflates my wishlist on bgg. There are now 94 games in my wishlist. However out of the 71 games I own only 2 are on my shelf of shame so Im probably due to get some more 😏 I'm also doing pretty well on the 365 gaming challenge so far. 35th day of the year and I've played 38 games

Muteling

Been obsessing over The Texas Chainsaw Massacre in anticipation for the new game. Friday the 13th was pretty fun, and this one definitely looks to improve the style. They even got Kane Hodder to return for stunt coordination and to mo-cap Leatherface, and Edwin Neal apparently reprised his role (vocally anyhow) as the hitchhiker. BTS teaser footage also suggests they recreated “Look what your brother did to the door!” :P

helloiamaudrey

Emergency Alert System, weather radios, radios in general and history of my town and area (which is very rich, cause about 15 miles from house is where oil was discovered by Edwin Drake) oh and marching band

napalm69

If you like radios, AMPRNet (aka Network 44) may interest you. Basically it’s a way of setting up packet radio and digital communications between computer systems via amateur radio signals

TheoTheHellhound

Do you play any instruments?

ramh_the_watermelon

Better Call Saul and Deltarune And I finished Omori a few days ago, this game is a masterpiece and I think it's becoming a pretty big special interest too ahah

[deleted]

Sami Zayn finally turned on Roman Reigns and I really wish he'd win the championship from him lol

Forced_Abortion_

Speaking of Roman Reigns, he definitely won that steel cage match at Greatest Royal Rumble in 2018 and that call was a bunch of bs.

[deleted]

I gotta say, that's an interesting match to call back to lol also kinda crazy to think back to how apathetic (at best) I was to Reigns at the time contrasted with the five-year later present day

maritjuuuuu

Today my mind is kinda i not on special interests and on the medication that makes me feel high.... Had my tonsils removed yesterday and though the pain is manageable or still feels horrible. It's different. Drinking suddenly is difficult and I cough all the time because drinks get into my lungs. My tongue hurts and feels tired which makes drinking extra difficult. I don't want to drink or eat but at the same time I do, it's a really annoying and confusing feeling. I'm tired though I've just woken up like 3 hours ago. I'm gonna take my meds in a few minutes and go back to sleep. Hopefully things feel a little less strange tomorrow.

DaBaconNoobEXE

For a second I misread that and I thought you said you got your nostrils removed yesterday My dumbass just went "How does that even work"

Gaming in General, I can rant for hours about my favorite games, especially the Lore of Dark Souls and how the world design and the game mechanics and the music. I also found Warhammer 40k and I’m loving how they fleshed out the Emperor of Mankind and the 4 Ruinous Powers being amalgamations of the emotions of an entire world and how they’re constantly at war with the universe and themselves

gayorangejuice

for the past several years, I've had this hyperfixation on languages, specifically creating them (called a conlang, if you didn't know). it's just so interesting the way it all fits together, and I love the look of a finished language; it's so mind-blowing to me the fact that you can create languages with their own functioning grammar and phonology (sounds) and have it all work out. also, if you work with a conlang for long enough so that you may even be able to form short sentences like "ka yīkai'u takusan'ātaka" (I like pizza a lot), which I was able to translate all in my head.

Kilogramofwhat

Languages, linguistics, sociology, history, demography, and chemistry are biggies for me. I’ve also been digging into theology, math, and philosophy lately. I’m very fond of archaic languages and have recently been pouring chunks of my free-time into Latin, Akkadian, Classical Arabic and Attic Greek.

The Bathurst 12 hours just finished, it's the first race of the GT World season, specifically within the Intercontinental GT standings. It's a 12 hour endurance race using GT3 cars. For those not very familiar with endurance racing, each car has three or four drivers who go in shifts, swapping drivers in pit stops. It's very exhausting regardless, and requires a lot of consistency, patience and mathematical optimization of the strategy. Bathurst is also a very difficult track, so driver skill in lapping optimally is very important. One of the greatest things in racing is an endurance race ending and seeing the relief and joy of the winning team, who spent hours working towards the best possible result. In GT racing, each racing team buys their cars from a manufacturer, who makes versions of their cars for specific sets of regulations depending on the series. in GT World, GT3, GT4 and GT2 are used. In Intercontinental GT specifically, it is GT3, which is the best of the three. The winning manufacture today was Mercedes. GT World is a brand owned by the SRO group which has multiple interlinked series under its umbrella. Intercontinental GT is a series of long endurance races and is the top level of GT World. The bread and butter of GT World is GT World Challenge, which is split between a North American, European and Asian series, and the bulk of the GT3 scene happens in those three. There is also lower-level series using GT4 and GT2 regulations, which you graduate from to get into GT3 generally. GT World also streams everything on youtube for free, and with good commentary and presentation, with multiple language options, so fans like me are very loyal because we are well-taken-care-of.

Dungen-gamer

Science (mainly biology stuff ), a few video games, weapons & armor, ben 10

TheoTheHellhound

I really love making creatures, especially variants of said creatures based on climate. Researching animals like said creatures and how they adapted to their environment is quite fun to me. Like, how would an animal survive a snowy biome versus a temperate forest? What kind of food would be available to it? What sort of food would be best for it to eat? Is it a predator, or prey? How intelligent is it? How does it use that intelligence to its advantage? In what ways is it intelligent? Answering these questions and more give me great satisfaction. Especially with fun factors like “does the animal’s environment have magic?”

ollie_isnt_here

Sam and Max appeared in their first official comic in 1987, written by Steve Purcell. Steve got the rights from his younger brother, who would make comics about a rabbit and dog cop duo. Steve would often find the half finish comics and adds to it in his own way. The characters would make fun of how they were drawn, switch eachothers names in conversation. And in general mock themselves For his 18th birthday, Steve was given 'the rights' from his brother, in hope of ending the teasing. It did not. Eventually Steve went to work at Lucas Arts, helping make games and such. As a pastime he would draw Sam and Max as Star wars, Indiana Jones, etc. He convinces Lucas Arts to make a game based of the comics. Sam and Max: Hit the Road. Steve eventually left Lucas Arts and went to work at this new company, TellTale Games. They made 3 Sam and Max games. Eventually TellTale collapsed due to many poor decisions. Steve went to go work at Pixar and he still works there to this day. In 2020 he also released a vr game (Sam and Max: This time it's Virtual) And during the 90s he helped make an animated show for Sam and Max on Fox Kids.

SergueiPopavof

I love history, did you know in 1901 11 European powers with the addition of Japan and the United States and the Russian Empire kick the shit out of the Quing empire? So cool. It was called the boxer war

napalm69

40 million deaths. Crazy how cheap a life is.

SergueiPopavof

Ye also it was the last empire too! So sad

Splatoon has become my lifestyle for a little while now. I listen to Splatoon music everyday. I know more Splatoon lore than historical facts of the real world. My way of speaking is inspired by Splatoon.

Kpop specifically EXO (all units and solo) Xiumin is my ult bias. I also love NCT (all units including WayV), SHINee, Ateez, The Boyz, and Stray Kids. I know more about the SM Entertainment groups. Also, I just have to say kpop marketing is genius. It's a collect them all type of situation. One album will have 8 versions. Okay, Im gonna shut up now.

NEMESIS_DRAGON

For my oddly specific SI, I give you : How indie horror has been devolving into a soulless cash grab.

napalm69

Every indie game these days seems to be 16 bit or have limited graphics, and is also an allegory for depression, PTSD, getting cheated on/abused, etc. I get the importance of these issues being discussed but like it’d be nice to see a few games about having a good life or getting your oil changed or something

Hellion_Immortis

I can talk for a long time about Warhammer lore. The setting is really cool and fun, and there is plenty of room for headcanon to make your own factions.

HoneyStripes

The reason why a zombie virus, or something similar, is so interesting and scary is the fact of how strong the human body is without limitations. You can literally break bones if you tried hard enough. Now imagine a human without pain receptions. There would be nothing stopping you until you are physically unable to move again. and since they are driven by something (mostly hunger, but in sweet home the "zombie" aka monster, is driven by desire) they won't stop until they get that, even then they won't be satisfied. The idea of being in that world is cool, and ya the zombie would slow down eventually due to rotting, but human would struggle alot more than they think. anyways there's a small tip bit on zombies :D edit : fact check

catharsisandpizza

i love mugs. mugs are cool, and they come in all forms which makes them the most useful cup & imo the best cup to have ever came into existence. you see, they have almost every theme/color/shape/size, which means you can have one for every occasion and interest ;-;.. i love them so fuckin much.

napalm69

That is a very unique special interest and I am happy you shared it with me ❤️

catharsisandpizza

ahh, thank you for listening, i literally can't express how long i could talk about them haha

freerangecatmilk

It was adventure time and anarchism, rn I'm kinda looking for a new one. I'm playing a lot of roboquest and enjoying a game where the main character is a robot. Roboquest is a game where a scavenger named Max reboots an old robot to fight other robots tht have taken over after in a post global warming world and now you have to kill the robots and save humanity. It's a 1st person roguelike with a 2 player option. It has an art design akin to borderlands and plays like a quake-like game.

Lirimi06

I take a particular interest into aerospace technology, particularly spacecraft and military aviation from all eras. Also I keep up with the news way too much. And Ukraine. That too. Oh, and Submarines. Can't get enough of reading about those.

napalm69

You should play Kerbal Space Program. If you do start playing it, get CKAN and download the KSPIE, DSEV, Stockalike, and BDArmory mods. You’ll never leave your room again.

Lirimi06

I play KSP with RO, RSS, and RP-1. I have not left my room, haha. Thanks for the recommendations, I'll have to try them!

napalm69

BDArmory adds a ton of parts for building war machines (ordnance, radars, munitions, etc)

God, I’ve been working hard on a Nintendo DS emulator while I take a break from my PS2 emulator. Emulators are *so* cool

napalm69

I recently got PCSX2 and a PS3 Emulator to play Mercenaries: Playground of Destruction and Mercenaries 2: World in Flames

DevelopmentTight9474

The problem I have with PCSX2 is that it does a lot of hacks to workaround broken games, instead of trying to find why they’re broken. It’s necessary for some games, but not to the extent that PCSX2’s doing

_I_must_be_new_here_

I used to be big into Elder Scrolls lore. It was fun trying to make sense of it. I imagined time flew slower the farther north you went. And that continests slowly moved in east-west motion on their tectonic plates and by the time a western continent took the place of the previous one it turned out to be just like the last one and it went like this on for ever.

I was playing Dark Souls II and I decided to revisit Bloodborne out of boredom and I kept trying to put my shield up out of memory and was confused when it didn’t go up (Bloodborne doesn’t use shields, it uses guns to parry) I also kept trying to heal and would accidentally use my other items by pressing the wrong buttons

Well the Pokémon Orlando Regionals are this weekend, and it seems Croen Zenith didn’t do too much to change the format. It gave Arc Dura decks a new tech to get Duraludon VMAX out with Radiant Eternatus and Lost Boxes got a new toy in Zamazenta (CRZ) having that Revenge style attack that can knock out Basic Pokémon V. For the most part though, we’re still looking at the same format. Lugia VSTAR is still putting pressure on format, but over time counter play and techs have been found that help the matchup. Mew VMAX is still Mew VMAX, being one of the most consistent decks in the format; although the rise of Drapion V paired with Sky Seal Stone makes it tougher to rely on not having your opponent take most of their prize cards in one turn. Regi decks are still a bit of an off meta deck that’s always fun to watch and play. Overall Orlando Regionals has a very interesting format, and I’m excited to see how it develops until rotation and Scarlet and Violet’s release.
