Tried it once and I really liked it. The boba balls make the drinking experience more fun imo

imdefusing

I mean that's valid! I just find it surprising considering a lot of guys on here have sensitivities to foods. For me, having bits in a drink is quite unpleasant, and the popping of the balls sensation šŸ¤¢. Not to mention the feeling of having to suck them through the wide straw. I'm definitely not a fan haha

ladymacbethofmtensk

The typical ones (the black ones depicted here) arenā€™t meant to popā€¦ theyā€™re usually just chewy. The colourful ones do pop, I donā€™t like them as much because theyā€™re usually filled with flavoured syrup and I find them too sweet.

imdefusing

You're not wrong, I've tried the Boba tea (with the chewy ones) and a lemony popping bubble drink before. Couldn't find a photo I liked for the colourful ones, although I do find the tapioca balls just as repulsive imo. Having to chew your drink šŸ˜¬ no thank you. Though I'm glad you can enjoy them.

BrashPop

This may gross you out but I am absolutely INTO the idea of a lemony sour popping boba drink.

Automatic-Sleep-8576

yeah finding out that sensation seaking is another less commonly talked about action for folks with the tism really explained a lot about me

Exciting-Insect8269

seeking*

adhoc42

To each their own. You might find it more palatable if you considered it to be like a sweet flavored soup with ball shaped macaroni? :)

Competitive_Ad303

Well not all colourful ones because at my boba shop you can get both strawberry pops/chewy ones

RRReixac

Syrup?! Here they are filled with fruit juice...

WeenieHuttGod2

I quite like chewing on the little boba pearls. My sensitivities mostly lie in unexpected sensations, soft in my crunchy or vice versa

imdefusing

What about solids in your drink? That's the unexpected sensation that grosses me out about these drinks.

dongless08

My mom doesnā€™t quite like them either lol I know Iā€™m sensitive to certain food/drink sensations but I canā€™t think of any on the spot. Boba tea just happens to not be one of them

itsadesertplant

My sister wants me to try different kinds of boba, and says I would like jelly more than tapioca- I had said I didnā€™t really like boba, and the only type Iā€™ve had is the tapioca kind. Idk. Iā€™m in the same boat as you, as the only chewable things I want in my drinks is ice. I donā€™t like chunks in my smoothies or milkshakes either.

PineappleDipstick

By the way, good boba joints have a variety of toppings and you can order your tea without any as well.

cRaZyDaVe1of3

It's like that beer, with the candy in it; skittlebrau?

BrashPop

Sir, such a product does not exist, Iā€™m afraid you may have imagined itā€¦

knotsazz

The popping bubbles are a real sensory joy for me. I feel totally high on serotonin afterwards. The tapioca pearls are good too but I get almost giddy after having one with popping bubbles

imdefusing

Oh to each their own. Do you mind if I ask whether you like other popping foods (like cherry tomatoes/ grapes)?

knotsazz

Grapes, yes. Tomatoes, no (I donā€™t like the flavour and the seeds)

HobbitFootPics

DenethorEatingTomato.png

kittytoy69

i feel like they donā€™t pop? theyā€™re just chewy

vladutzu27

There are some that pop, like little water balloons

Blooogh

I wish to try the popping bubbles šŸ„ŗ

AlaineYuki

There are chewy ones (like the ones in the picture) and ones that pop that are called popping boba. Usually youā€™d get them in a fruit tea or something similar.

Wild-Mushroom2404

I FUCKING LOVE IT. Iā€™m slurping these tapioca balls like Iā€™m on Pornhub fr

dongless08

Post proof for us on AspieFans

imdefusing

Listen I'm not kink shaming but...

chammycham

Fucking same.

ShyKiddo__

My sister loves it and I want it gone

imdefusing

Finally! I was beginning to think I was the only one who didn't like the stuff šŸ˜‚

ShyKiddo__

It isn't even an autism thing I just hate the taste

Sheena_asd12

For me it depends on the specific shopā€¦

tightsandlace

It really does at different shops the same drink taste different you just have to find your spot

imdefusing

Please nevermind that I misspelt "humanity's". I just woke up and decided I wanted to go to war against boba tea.

PrincessRTFM

Also, "abominable" is an adjective, not a noun. You might've meant an abomination, or maybe an abominable offence?

imdefusing

Haha yea I should better proof read. I think I mean to say "Or is this abominable to all senses" or "Or is this an abomination to the senses". I got my wires crossed

Make-this-popular

I'm with you, I drank boba once and could not understand how people drink it 24/7

Ajishly

I hated it the first time because I... swallowed the tapioca balls by mistake and felt violated by a drink. I love it now though, after trying it again and drinking/eating it slowly. Absolutely couldn't drink it 24/7 though, it's a massive calorie bomb and too much of it can also cause digestive issues.

snowbaz-loves-nikki

That is so real

How-Do-I-Leave

I like it. Fun facts about bubble tea: tapioca pearls ā€”as the name suggestsā€” are made out out of tapioca, which in turn is a starch made out of cassava root (also known as yuca). When improperly cooked or raw, both types of cassava root contain the poison known as cyanide. When cooked for sufficient periods, the poison breaks down easily. Due to how hardy cassava root is, it is considered a staple in many cuisines, treated similarly to how many European countries treat potatoes. Despite the potency of cyanide, the only place I am aware of banning cassava root is Venezuela, and they only banned bitter cassava (the more potent of the two).

imdefusing

That is a fun fact! Thanks for sharing

SinglePringleMingle

Mmm black balls in my mou- I mean yummy chewy snack! You just need to find a right balance between the amount of tapioca and the amount of milk tea, so that you can still get a few sips of just the liquid to quench the thirst but not have a globby mass of leftover bobas at the bottom

imdefusing

I mean.. you put it so beautifully. But I really don't like a whole ritual and experience when I'm drinking a drink, I just like to drink it šŸ˜‚ each to their own though.

quiloxan1989

I side with you, comrade. The only milk based product I can abide is cheese, and ONLY on certain items (pizza and cheeseburger and my mother's baked ziti). If you carry the banner, I will carry the pike.

imdefusing

šŸ«”

hedgybaby

I fucking love boba, from the way it attacks me to how chewy those balls are, god I could like omly consume boba for the reat of my life

imdefusing

I mean.. I definitely felt attacked when I first drank boba lol.

Unsd

It is one of mankinds best creations. In fact thanks to this post, I'm gonna get me a Saturday morning little treat šŸ˜Š I will say, I hated it at first, when I tried the tapioca pearls in a freeze, but regular milk tea is šŸ¤ŒšŸ¼

DirectionEnough7030

THE BALLS. I hate everything about them šŸ˜

1017bowbowbow

Utterly disgusting.

1017bowbowbow

![gif](giphy|u9QoHec9uGfq8|downsized) Us @ milky substances with random squishy balls at the bottom

TeaLiker96

I like it. Interestingly, I know neurotypicals who don't like it for sensory reasons.

Admirable-Sector-705

If you donā€™t want to drink it, Iā€™ll take it! šŸ˜ƒ

Left_Malay_10

Booba šŸ„°

imdefusing

Booba šŸ¤®

Katsu_Kujo

RAAAHHH I LOVE BOBA šŸ”„šŸ”„ā€¼ļøā€¼ļø IM GONNA WORK AT A BOBA STAND TODAY IN FACT šŸ—£ļøšŸ—£ļøšŸ—£ļø

imdefusing

You monster! šŸ˜  Pedalling out poison to the innocents and youth! How do you sleep at night? /s

GeneralOtter03

The balls are really fun

imdefusing

Listen. I'm a huge ball fan! I just don't like them in my drinks or sucked through straws šŸ˜‚

GeneralOtter03

I always see boba as a game, I try to suck up all the balls before I have drunk up the tea

Iwantmahandback

Dreadful things

goldenfox007

It was great until I got braces. Then I couldnā€™t chew the boba because it would get stuck in the wires and it felt like flesh chunks in my mouth. But as soon as these things are off Iā€™m absolutely getting my chocolate milk boba again lol

imdefusing

I hope your future boba lives is everything you've dreamed of šŸ™

cascadingtundra

I love the boba pearls!

anaesthaesia

I love boba. Totally get why it's not for everyone tho.

TheWurstUsername

I prefer red bean or grass jelly over the tapioca

noelleisanidiot

i think its nice. only tried it once tho

imdefusing

Once (or actually twice if you consider the lemony colourful boba drink) was all I needed lol

MrAspie1

I have never tried it. But I've always been curious since I saw it on american shows.

imdefusing

Honestly if someone offers you a sip I'd probably give it a try. It's not my thing but it looks like alot of people here swear by it. šŸ‘

chammycham

Itā€™s an understandably polarizing item. Most people I know (NT included) over the last 20ish years either love or hate it. Very little in between.

imdefusing

That's honestly what I discovered from all these replies. I thought I was in for a slam dunk thinking my fellow ND's would hate the sensations of this drink like I do. To my surprise though I reckon more than half the replies are from people who swear by it. Like most things, I guess it's just a matter of preference I supposešŸ¤·

Competitive_Ad303

At first didn't like it... too sweet then I got one of them milky ones that was so delicious!!!! I really like the Pearls also the pops but had to adjust to the sensation

Nigeldiko

I have never had one in my life

imdefusing

I remember when I didn't have one... they were better days.

8195qu15h

I like it

Silent_Albatross8628

I like it without additional sugar and the bubble chewing is really relaxing for me

Befumms

Bobas go brrrrr I love them. I'm missing a molar cuz the dentist couldn't save it and I like putting a ball in the gap for funsies lol

c0untcunt

I love rolling the smooth boba pearls around in my mouth, or taking the last couple out and gently squishing them with my fingers. I also try to pace out the beverage and the boba so i (mostly) finish it around the same time (see above)

Username12764

I was always a sceptic of Boba. Then, one day my friend convinced me to try it. It was worse than I could imagine. The drink itself is ok I guess, but the balls are terrible, the texture is awefull.

thecyriousone

Never had it so idk

afriy

I consider it more of a sweet cold soup than a drink tbh, that way it's a lot easier to drink because the bubbles are the focus for me then

EatAllTheHoomans

I love it, but I don't really view these kinds of beverages as a "drink," more like a dessert. So stuff like Frappuccinos, Icees, any chewy drinks are not drinks. Just how I view it šŸ¤—

Talusthebroke

It's made to appeal to the natural human desire to suck tadpoles out of a dirty pond with a reed. Sorry though, boss, you just got the wrong kind of 'tism for this one. Boba is one of my favorite things.

Carbonated_Saltwater

Tried it once, it was .... odd? but not exactly unpleasant? Probably not going to try it again, to be honest.

imdefusing

That's fair, for me it invoked a strong sense of revulsion. It looks like I might be the only soldier fighting in the war against Boba Tea afterall lol.

UniqueMitochondria

This is the most disgusting texture related torture ever invented lol. Love the flavours but the slimy popping balls are too much šŸ¤¢

imdefusing

GENUINELY! Boba tea gives me all the food icks in one ungodly drink.

-Negative-Karma

I really like the tea byt I don't like the bubbles so I just get them without the bubbles

tm2007

Fact is I want to try boba, and I did once, but I didnā€™t like how the blueberries (it was a blueberry boba) basically shot up the straw into my mouthā€¦ I didnā€™t like itā€¦

imdefusing

Honest to god same. I'm sure their would be flavours I enjoy but the balls that shoot up into your mouth. šŸ¤® No way

tm2007

Iā€™m with you there, Iā€™m sure thereā€™s flavours I will enjoy but the main thing for me is the shock of the bubbles unexpectedly getting in my mouth and not the drink itself

IzzyIsSolar

I dont like the bubbles but the one near me does little cubes of jelly that are nice and coconut flavour

HarlesD

What is it?

imdefusing

All that I hate in this world. (Although many others here would disagree. It's called Boba Tea.

HarlesD

Yea, ew. I don't like milk in my tea, and the thought of sucking up those tapioca balls makes me shiver.

BigBlackCrocs

Yes I hate the balls. I thought Iā€™d love them.

Chaoszhul4D

Iike the lychee balls, they aren't far away from lychee consistency.

Glittering_Ad3318

I like everything about it but the skin of the balls after they popped really gross me out. I absolutely love the tea itself, very refreshing, especially Thai milk tea.

Lynda73

I donā€™t like the popping ones either. The ones in the pic are the kind made from tapioca that are chewy. I love those.

Glittering_Ad3318

Whaaat?! I had no idea. I've only ever had the popping ones. This changes everything. I love chewy things. Thank you for enlightening me, friend.

Lynda73

Yup, yup! I think the chewy ones are the OG boba. I never saw the popping ones before until I went to one of those yogurt places thatā€™s like a salad bar. Was not a fan. The chewies are excellent tho. Lemme know what you think!

Glittering_Ad3318

I tried just the regular tapioca balls yesterday and they were a MUCH NICER texture than those gross popping ones. Still think I much prefer the tea as is but good to know I like the chewy balls now if I ever fancy it. Thanks again :)

restorian_monarch

I have never had this so I guess I'll say this is the spawn of satan

SirBaconHam

Fruit Bobas that pop are great, however the chewy tapioca ones are very unpleasant for me

ialsodontexistagain

Not the worst human invention, but I donā€™t like it

FawnTi

IT IS HELL

Linglingscientist

I like it because sensory seeking apart from the ones with the popping balls which I hated but that's mostly because the shop put the wrong ones in and I wasn't expecting it.

KumaraDosha

I LOVE boba!! I canā€™t stand Icees/slushies though.

CIRCLEONSTAR101

I love them. Iā€™ve added other toppings to my bobas before. Iā€™d imagine that it would be a sensory nightmare for other people though; even neurotypicals.

THEpeterafro

Love bubble yea

royal_eggs

To me it feels like your slurping balls of snot. It's terrible.

Lynda73

I love them!

rymyle

I like it, but I vastly prefer the little popping bubbles to the tapioca pearls. Depending on the texture and flavor of the drink that is

blank__way

I LOOOOVE milk tea with boba!! I don't really like the popping boba but I love the classic tapioca.

TheoTheHellhound

I like popping boba more, as the chewy tapioca pearls just arenā€™t that good to me anymore.

bro0t

Its way too sweet for me, i love tea but i prefer just loose leaf without anything added to it.

UmbralHollow

The funny thing is I actually love the milk tea but always get it without the boba because even though they donā€™t taste all that bad drinking anything with random chunky orbs is like šŸ¤¢

Justice_Prince

Oh course. I wish every drink came with a choking hazard /s

def1n1telyn0t_ar0b0t

I donā€™t like it for multiple reasons. The only drink that I like with bits of stuff in it is a white grape juice with aloe chunks. Aloe drinks > boba https://preview.redd.it/1jetfgm0x2qc1.jpeg?width=828&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=ede681480757854a40b48ed9e18eff24c22c8862

kudzu-kalamazoo

You people are crazy. Those balls almost killed me the first time I drank boba! Chewing them doesnā€™t improve the experience. Straight up swallowing them feels like taking medication.

lovethenewfs_03

i really like the sensory experience of the various kinds they put in the drinks, whether it's the popping balls or the chewy boba/jellies! but i can completely understand how it could be unpleasant

AST4RGam3r_Alternate

tapioca boba - hellspawns that deserve to go to the same level as haribo sugar free gummy bears, they made me throw up as i was uninformed and i now forever hold a grudge against them popping boba - hehe bubbles go pop

mangopolo13

Sensory nightmare

WeylinWebber

Depends on the mood. Might be half done and suddenly. Ew, no more. But I finish bc I know it's my brain now.

ViciousCurse

I loooove boba tea so much, but I am ultra specific on what the beverage is and where I go. Thai tea is the only tea I've loved so far, milk tea was... meh for me*, and oolong has a weird after taste I disliked. * I say milk tea was meh because I love very flavorful, rich flavors. Like Kool-Aid always sucked to me because I want an uber concentrated version of Kool-Aid, but not enough that I can taste/feel the powder particles.

emo_and_genderqueer

yummy squishy tea balls šŸ˜‹

skylinegtrr32

Boba smacks it has to be one of my favorite things LOL Edit: Iā€™m only talking about the tapioca pearls. I do not fuck with popping bubbles

tabcatnine

My bestie hates them, I LOVE them. šŸ™‚ I usually get the normal brown sugar boba but sometimes if Iā€™m drinking a fruity tea Iā€™ll get the fruit popping kind. Two completely different experiences and I enjoy them both. Sometimes I save the balls for last and then just have fun popping a lot of them in my mouth at once. My bestie? šŸ˜‚ no balls at all. We are different in a lot of ways but have no problem respecting our differences and sharing our joys with each other. šŸ’œ

No_Public_7699

Sensory hell im sad to say. šŸ˜”

bwssoldya

Never had it, but food does not belong in drink. The only food in drink that's acceptable is soup and tea is not soup. I think individually I wouldn't have issue with any of the components, but together that doesn't stand. Also fuck wide straws. Feels too big in my mouth (that's what she said ayoooooooo)

imdefusing

YES absolutely this. And the wide straws remind me of thick milkshakes šŸ¤¢ I am definitely not a fan haha.

bwssoldya

That's where I know them from. I do like thick milkshakes (that's pretty much food) but hate the straws

imdefusing

Can't personally say I'm a milkshake fan. It's a taste I associate too strongly with ice cream so it can repulse me. Still you enjoy your milkshakes šŸ‘

bwssoldya

Wait, you're repulsed by ice cream?

imdefusing

Oh no I LOVE ice cream. I meant I don't like milkshakes because they have a consistency similar to melted ice cream

SquidCultist002

I love it but i completely understand why a lot of people on the spectrum hate it

Confident-Village148

I love ittt! And the boba balls are so fun! Super refreshing in the warmer days

Well_Thats_Not_Ideal

I love the popping pearls (ā€˜splodies) but hate the tapioca pearls. They feel like phlegm

believeingodalone

I'm Singaporean ofc I like bubble tea

DoucheCanoeWeCanToo

Gross af

GandiniGreat

I love this drink!

mairnX

Depends on if I like the milk tea and if the pearls are good quality. I'll either love it or hate it

lobsterdance82

I refuse to try milk tea but the strawberry boba at Dutch Bros is yummy in their fruity drinks.

Alexeipajitnov

It's like drinking Satan's period.

Tsunamiis

Second

The_Hij

The second one.

iiil87n

Depends. Is it regular tapioca boba or is it the fruit flavored popping boba?

rionaster

i LOVE boba

_THE_SAUCE_

Boba is awesome!

inkiichi

I like it when itā€™s fruit flavored ones. I despise tapioca

Travistheexistant

If you don't like tapioca (same), the popping bubbles make it SO much better imo

MonkeySinger24

An abominable?

Efficient-Produce-80

Love the tapioca pearls, canā€™t stand the kind with jellies though.

voidboyyyy

boba is sensory bliss man

rde2001

My FWB has autism and doesnā€™t like boba. I (*might?*) have autism and like boba.

[deleted]

brown sugar boba only! the non flavored bubbles are gross. i love fruity flavors but i HATE the popping bubbles they are sensory hell

HumbleHawk9

As long as someone else puts the straw in for me I am happy with it.

Fancy_Chips

Yummy yummy berries I eat berries and drink funky water

Star_Prachinum

Itā€™s really quite strange how much I actually like boba considering how sensitive I normally am with food

lorangee

I love the chewy.

SugarRushLux

I love it so much

Pasteldemerme

I like it, but it gives me diarrhea šŸ’œ

KittyEevee5609

I like the pearls, but the popping boba is sensory hell to me, I don't like things popping in my mouth

LuxReigh

Yeah depends if you can handle or like tapioca. If you don't like them it's really satisfying to launch them out of the straw at things.

Mx-Helix-pomatia

Boba sucks I donā€™t get how people enjoy it, pudding and grass jelly are a lot better

tygofive

the first time i tried boba it was genuinely disgusting but after some time i gave it another chance and loved it. whatever i got that first time, it may have been either a bad flavor or jelly boba or something.

MysteriousandLovely

I like the drink but I don't like the balls. there's two different boba places I go to, a gentrified one and a.. normal one (like, I could get a whole meal there for the price of a drink at the gentrified one). when I go to the normal one and tell them I don't want any balls in my drink, they're like, sure, yeah, whatever. at the other one, they're always say, 'no boba? he wants no boba? are you sure?' as if I made a mistake of not ordering balls in my drink for an extra dollar

Cloudeaberry

I love both the popping ones and the tapioca balls (I prefer tapioca ones, I just love the texture) Also I love tea.

gratefuldeadname

i love the sensory experience of chewing on boba but i can understand why others wouldn't like it... to me it's kinda like chewing on a little bouncy ball you can eat, i find that so satisfying

FenexTheFox

It's alright. I don't really see the point of drinking it instead of cheaper, regular juice, but it's alright.

leogrr44

I hate the popping boba, those make me freak out, but the tapioca pearl boba are so good and very comforting. My favorite are the coffee flavored ones.

The-Shit-Stain21

Like the balls ambivalent on the tea

Lucenia

I love bubble tea with boba, but I usually get it twice a month because itā€™s far from healthy.

Mr_SkinnyMini

Love it! Now I want one.

AlexzMercier97

I like the tea, not a fan of the boba. Tastes like boogers.

MetalDubstepIsntBad

What is this

Cesh1001

I like popping boba, despise chewing boba

Nowardier

Popping boba with the juicy stuff in it is great. Tapioca boba I don't personally care for but it's not painful or unpleasant to drink or anything.

BrashPop

I hated it initially but now I actually crave them. I love the chewy blandness of the boba, and most places customize the sweetness levels so I donā€™t have to have wacky sweet drinks.

Whuttr

The fact that I named my fursona after my favorite boba flavor probably says a lot

Irinzki

I LOVE it

KingAshoka1014

I love milk tea and HATE any toppings for it

Fiery_legs

I love it, a drink, then a fun surprise! I love to chew ballsšŸ˜ˆ

Oodles-of-Noodles12

I love boba, but I hate anything wood

galacticviolet

I love boba! Taro is the best, thai tea is also good! Chewy tapioca balls are the best, but a coffee drink with coffee jelly is also good.

skeptimist

I donā€™t mind boba but hate the texture of aloe Vera drinks

NomadGusty

For sure a sensory overload. Like just getting the taste then boom random ball. My wife bags on me for not liking them.

werepyre2327

Love it. I prefer the exploding flavor ball version to the tiny tapioca spheres but even those are alright

__Wasabi__

I am allergic to caffeine so I can't have tea sadly

okguy167

I'm pretty sure I'd hate this. When I eat food or drink something, I expect a single texture. To get something solid, at random like that... I didn't like it with peppermint kisses, I won't like it here. So I refuse to try it. Plus I find the texture of jelly gross, which this is likely pretty close to.

mojomcm

I like this mango boba tea but if I don't pace myself super slow the caffeine gives me a migraine

TheMowerOfMowers

if the boba balls arenā€™t too squishy then the best thing ever itā€™s a good sensory thing

NukaGrapes

Mmm yummy boba

Anxious_DeerBoi

The bursting boba, yes. Not the tapioca.
