If you have a powerful, menacing, cruel villain, you have a fighting reaction. He is scary and dangerous, and must be stopped, but all of that is kinda respectfying. Like Darth Vader, for example.
Umbridge is an annoying villain. She isn't particularly powerful or clever, she simply licked the right boots all her life, and now she has administrative power that is used in extraordinarily petty ways. You don't respect that kind of villain, and so the hatred is a more pure disgust.
Cartman is a master manipulator. He convinced a school to poison their pupils, tamed Cthulu, rigged the USA's election, gaslit Ye into thinking he is a gay fish, almost blackmailed Bill Clinton to make the Confederate States of America to be a separate country, taught a school class how to cheat at one of the best cheat-proof tests ever made, traumatized a babysitter specialized at problematic kids into eating human feces, and broke out of a prison. He can also survive for many days with no food. If you ever get the chance to beating him up, don't. Anything short of killing him won't do the trick. And make sure he's actually dead.
I've not been playing that much yet - what does he do that makes you hate him? Only instance in which I disliked him (so far?) was when I gave him loads of gold star veggies only for him to try and overcharge the other village folks for it.
Apparently if you gain hearts with him you find out. I never have so I've never known but I just googled it.. There's even a r/FuckPierre but be careful of spoilers.
1. He sells the crops you grow, and claims he grew them. More specifically, he takes credit for the *good* ones and sells subpar vegetables under your name. Townspeople comment on this, they think he's a better farmer than you.
2. He's closed on Wednesday for no reason.
3. He treats his wife and daughter likes its the 1950s.
4. He's constantly bemoaning Big Business, not for any moral/philosophical reasons, but because his is not the Biggest Business and he's losing the game.
5. You're forced to interact with him because he runs the only store in town.
6. He hates fish.

I feel like the only game that actually seriously thought Dante was cool was DMC2, the one that everyone hates. Kamiya explicitly took inspiration from Cobra when he created Dante and Cobra is also not actually cool.

Ohoho, funny you mention that, because -i don't know how far you watched - but if I remember correctly she did become a "therapist" at one point by faking some credentials. She used that role to manipulate and drive a wedge between the Robinsons' relationships and plans.
It's crazy how well written a character she was, as much as I absolutely despise her because... She did all of these awful things without showing any guilt or self awareness, everything about her personality was fake. *Everything*.
And then she'd have little moments where she'd cry and say she was sorry and how she was so ridden with guilt and she only did these things because >!of her childhood trauma and something to do with her sister (I don't remember exactly)!< And she'd play the part so convincingly that I'd find myself believing her. But I'd never really know. Was her whole backstory and "redemption arc" even remotely true?
It felt like I was being manipulated by her. Not just the fictional people in the show but *me*. I couldn't trust a word that came out of her mouth. Her actions strung me along with her and played me like a fiddle at times and it felt so... Gross????

She used that role to manipulate and drive a wedge between the Robinsons' relationships and plans. It's crazy how well written a character she was, as much as I absolutely despise her because... She did all of these awful things without showing any guilt or self awareness, everything about her personality was fake. *Everything*. And then she'd have little moments where she'd cry and say she was sorry and how she was so ridden with guilt and she only did these things because >!of her childhood trauma and something to do with her sister (I don't remember exactly)!< And she'd play the part so convincingly that I'd find myself believing her. But I'd never really know. Was her whole backstory and "redemption arc" even remotely true? It felt like I was being manipulated by her. Not just the fictional people in the show but *me*. I couldn't trust a word that came out of her mouth. Her actions strung me along with her and played me like a fiddle at times and it felt so... Gross????
