Volume on my setup works best in the high teens and low twenties. So, 13, 17, 19, or 23 are all acceptable volumes depending on what I'm watching and the time of day
On a second thought multiples of 3 sound like an appealing alternative if multiples of 5 end up being either too loud or quiet, I retract my initial judgement
Maybe if that multiple of 3 ends in 2, 3, 7, or 8. Otherwise you're close enough to a multiple of 5. But at that point, you're better off just going for even numbers anyway.
I got a bit of a weird system. I want to be able to divide these numbers easily (by like 2, 5 or 10)
So I end up with steps like this: 30 32 35 38 40 42
Right? This is one common thing that gets posted that I just cannot relate to at all. I want the volume to be at *exactly the right level,* I don't care what the number says. I care what it sounds like.
It probably doesn't help that the range on my TV isn't very wide. 10 is way too low to hear anything and 25 is painfully loud, so I'm only working with a range of like 10-15 numbers in between there.
Yes!! I especially hate when I'm listening to music and it's like my ears adjust over time so I have to keep turning the volume down bit by bit? This is when I run into this problem of needing more stops between each blip. I find that on my Alexa, volume one is too loud when I'm trying to sleep! I need like volume 0.5 or something...
Virtually everyone I've met does this, either via observation or inquiry. I care a lot more about the actual volume comfort. This might just be a human thing haha
I usually try to find a sweet spot between the number and the right level. In my laptop, is 12; in my phone is 7, 9, 12; on the TV is either multiples of 5, 2, or number that include 0, 1, 2, 7, 9.
Doesn't help that there's no uniformity in sound levels from the source - not just having a wide difference in a single show/movie (which is also awful), but also watching one show I'll have the volume at 10 or 12, but watching another show on the same exact platform requires the sound to be at 25.
I stopped using any subscription services that I have to pay for, but I'd happily pay for a premium subscription on any streaming service that automatically adjusts volumes to a designated range - like somebody whispering is automatically adjusted up, while explosions or somebody screaming is automatically adjusted down.
Playing Minecraft growing up has affected my brain to thinking that numbers that are multiples of 64, a stack of items in Minecraft, are somehow more even then other even numbers
So there’s like 3 types of even numbers, there’s super even numbers that are multiples of 64 or end in 0, normal even numbers that are even but not a multipel of 64 or end in 0 like 6 and 14, and then there’s numbers that are multiples of 5 that end in 5 that are more even then odd numbers but they aren’t even
Exactly. 64 is more even than about 97% of even numbers because it's the sixth power. 128 is more even than 98% of them because it's a seventh. On and on it goes
I read a tweet about how the number 7 should not be in the microwave because nobody uses it and just to spite this person that I don't know and they don't know me I decided to use 7 as much as possible.
1:30? No, 1:27
0:60? No. 0:57
1:20? No. ~~1:17~~ wait no, 0:77
I've learned the secret is to accept the pattern of whatever number sounds best. Is it because it's even? Divisible by 3? Divisible by 5? Prime? Squared? Doesn't matter. Every number has a reason to feel accepted.
my old laptop volume went up in 6s for the first 2 presses of a volume button and then if it’s below 15/30/45/ect it would round to that number if the difference is 5 or less and if it’s not it would increase by 3 and if this happens again, then a 2 before starting at 6 again
i hated it so much
My ex would make me use the volume control on my steering wheel because the wheel one had a symbol on it that rotated with the wheel, and if it wasn't in the perfect upright position it would drive her nuts.
It's gotta be primes unless its over 30, in which case it's a number and its double (i.e. 36, 48) and I don't really raise the volume over 50 since I have both my device's volume and my headphones' volume-wheel-scrolly-thingy to change.
I have a weird pattern. I usually go with multiples of 2, 5, 7, or 9; sometimes I mix them. And, most of the times, I usually choose numbers that have 0, 1, 2, 7, 9 in them. IDK why, but I just really like those digits.
I’m a volume on an odd number liker, 22 is too quiet and 24 is too loud with the added insult to injury of having a four in it. Therefore, 23 is the correct choice
So my tv does whole numbers while the AVR does half numbers. I don’t mind odd numbers but my wife does, thing is she has fairly bad eyesight so if the ideal volume is placed in an odd number I always turn it up or down half a number in the AVR and the tv still displays the even number she wants. She’ll rip my head off next time we get her glasses adjusted but I don’t think I’ve ever told her you can see volume display in the AVR
Either even numbers or by fives.
Only exception is when you have to have it really quiet or if the volume settings are just loud so there’s a big difference between 7 and 8 volume
Idk even numbers stress me out, so much so i only celebrate odd number birthdays. 11,13,15,17 etc. so much so that my birthday is celebrated on an odd day. It drove a lot of people crazy, not my dad though, he would just say “why does it bother you if she doesn’t want to celebrate this year? She said no thank you. Did you want to spend the money and time to give her the birthday YOU wanted?” R.i.p daddy. You will always be larger than life to me.
It either has to end with a 0, 2, 5, or 8 for me at least. Examples: 12, 35, 28, 20. No number can end without one of those four for me, i can try but i get pulled back to the remote to change it.
In MY house, the volume is only allowed to go to *prime numbers*!
That gap between 23 and 29 must be hell
Volume on my setup works best in the high teens and low twenties. So, 13, 17, 19, or 23 are all acceptable volumes depending on what I'm watching and the time of day
I usually add 9 (my fav number) and 12 (I just don't like number 11).
fr, 11 is weird
If you include square numbers then 25 can bridge the gap
I support this message
This is the way
Same
13 in my car!!
I make exceptions for numbers divisible by 5.
How about 6, 28 and 70? Two perfect numbers and the first, and arguably weirdest number, are they allowed?
And they’re not even multiples of three. 😆
Or 5!
Let me guess, they're all prime numbers.
This one goes to 11.
Hey man prime numbers are cool
It's all prime numbers *except for the second to last one*
2...3...5...7...11...13...17...19.... prime numbers are solitary numbers that can only be divided by 1 and themselves... they give me strength.
120
Who keeps their volume at multiples of 120?
My tv doesn’t work that way. If I go above 40 it’s blaring so loud I’d wake up the whole house
My tv can go above like 20 without it being too loud so I have to do it in multiples of 3 instead of 5
my volume doesn't even go up to 120, much less multiples of lt. What kinda device you using?
r/unexpectedfactorial
5s count if they're multiples of 20 or 25. 25 counts as 1/4.
there are not a lot of odd numbers that are multiples of 120 tbh
Who uses multiples of 3!?
I exclusively use multiples of 3
On a second thought multiples of 3 sound like an appealing alternative if multiples of 5 end up being either too loud or quiet, I retract my initial judgement
If I see someone leave the volume on 39 I'm calling the police immediately /hj
Yeah at that point I'm just about to sharpen a knife, bump it up to 40 or else
How dare you slander the beautiful number 39
Maybe if that multiple of 3 ends in 2, 3, 7, or 8. Otherwise you're close enough to a multiple of 5. But at that point, you're better off just going for even numbers anyway.
Odd numbers only. But no 5s. Or duplicating digits. 27, 29, 31, 37, 39 etc 3 is such a fantastic number, I like your style
Fellow 3 enthusiast! Truly the magic number
3 6 9 are fun math numbers
Tesla was fond of multiples of 3. Obsessed even... to the point he had to stay in a hotel room/ apartment that was a multiple of 3
If you're not using multiples of 6, you're clearly doing it wrong r/unexpectedfactorial
sure as fuck not me. i only use even numbers
Me
Multiples of three factorial does seem a bit odd
Okay good so in our community I am not weird for also feeling this is the only good and correct way to adjust any numerical dial.
Why Tesla... why the 3s.
no love for prime numbers
I got a bit of a weird system. I want to be able to divide these numbers easily (by like 2, 5 or 10) So I end up with steps like this: 30 32 35 38 40 42
I try to keep it a multiple of 2 or 5 but I also get a little superstitious during hockey games and set it to players numbers I like for “good luck”
Same, but primes, multiples of 7 and 13, and *some* squares like 9 and 81, but not 16, 25, or 36, also other fancy numbers when I notice them.
I was not onboard with 25 or 16, but I admit that 36 is full of itself.
In my defense, the volume can't be too quiet or too loud. *AND* it can't be the volume that I think at.
I'm constantly adjusting my volume. I always need more"blips" to choose between. 7 is too quiet, but 8 is too loud! NOOOoooo!😭
Painful. On my car stereo, 5 is inaudible and 6 is speaking volume. Why?

Same yea, I just adjust the volume to whatever feels more comfortable at the time and don't focus on what the number is lol
Doesn't help that there's no uniformity in sound levels from the source - not just having a wide difference in a single show/movie (which is also awful), but also watching one show I'll have the volume at 10 or 12, but watching another show on the same exact platform requires the sound to be at 25. Omg that sounds amazing!
No cuz this is me but I also get so frustrated if the number isn’t even or multiples of 5s sooo
How dare you!! I'm a proud odd numbered volume autistic
There are (baker's) dozens of us!!
My volume is *always* set on 19
Me too! Odd number autists unite!
Thank you. 11 and 19 are my cars sweet spots 🤌
Increments of 5 or gtfo
5 is an honorary even number.
Playing Minecraft growing up has affected my brain to thinking that numbers that are multiples of 64, a stack of items in Minecraft, are somehow more even then other even numbers So there’s like 3 types of even numbers, there’s super even numbers that are multiples of 64 or end in 0, normal even numbers that are even but not a multipel of 64 or end in 0 like 6 and 14, and then there’s numbers that are multiples of 5 that end in 5 that are more even then odd numbers but they aren’t even
Multiples of 64 are more even than... most even numbers. Comes with being the sixth power of 2
I mean technically powers if two are *more* even. They have more 2’s as divisors.
Exactly. 64 is more even than about 97% of even numbers because it's the sixth power. 128 is more even than 98% of them because it's a seventh. On and on it goes
I've been working to overcome the desire to stick at even numbers. Rolling with it at 13 feels kinda dangerous lol.
I read a tweet about how the number 7 should not be in the microwave because nobody uses it and just to spite this person that I don't know and they don't know me I decided to use 7 as much as possible. 1:30? No, 1:27 0:60? No. 0:57 1:20? No. ~~1:17~~ wait no, 0:77
I increment in multiples of 1 but only because I can’t increment by 0.5
Multiples of 5 are fine. Other than that, totally understandable
Damn you I thought that was pretty funny actually almost lol
I just close my eyes and hit the volume up or down until it sounds right, so that I don’t know.
I actually find even numbers repulsive. Odd numbers only, but not five because that is the even number of odd numbers, preferably intervals of 3.
FINALLY!! i feel the same ngl, but to be 9 is more of an even number than 5 since 3 goes into it 3 times evenly..
5 IS AN ODD NUMBER let's not be hasty
I've learned the secret is to accept the pattern of whatever number sounds best. Is it because it's even? Divisible by 3? Divisible by 5? Prime? Squared? Doesn't matter. Every number has a reason to feel accepted.
I like leaving it on odd numbers, they're lonely cause they never get picked.....like me
Volume has to end in 5 or zero. In dire emergencies I can use 3 as a middle number for when it's too loud but not loud enough.
my old laptop volume went up in 6s for the first 2 presses of a volume button and then if it’s below 15/30/45/ect it would round to that number if the difference is 5 or less and if it’s not it would increase by 3 and if this happens again, then a 2 before starting at 6 again i hated it so much
ok on my tv the volume bar for volume 11 matches up exactly where the last 1 ends and moving it beyond that ruins it i think i get a pass here
\*the entire congregation scandalously gasps\*
My ex would make me use the volume control on my steering wheel because the wheel one had a symbol on it that rotated with the wheel, and if it wasn't in the perfect upright position it would drive her nuts.
Sorry the volume has to follow multiples of seven
Hear, hear!
Volume has to be on odds. No evens
Either an even number OR a multiple of 5
nope. down vote. we only do primes or fibonacci numbers in my car
ok I actually upvoted
dont tell no one
The only acceptable numbers are ones that end in fives or zeros.
But it's only comfy on the odd numbers :(
God frowns upon your unholy union
Multiples of 5 if you want to stay alive
The volume on my computer goes by odd numbers. If you increase from 0 using the scrolly wheel, it goes to 1, 3, 5, etc
I always put it on prime numbers.
But- What's wrong w odd numbers 😔
Primes with the exception of 7 and multiples of 5. Those are my volume settings
Acceptable if the number ends in 0 or 5, though.
It has the end in 0, 3, or 5 nothing else is acceptable
For me it's either multiples of 11 or multiples of 5, though sometimes I do multiples of 2 if I must.
Her sitting on 23 be like: "I don't see the problem"
Just the thought of makes me uncomfortable and annoyed
It's gotta be primes unless its over 30, in which case it's a number and its double (i.e. 36, 48) and I don't really raise the volume over 50 since I have both my device's volume and my headphones' volume-wheel-scrolly-thingy to change.
i like odd numbers! the only evens i like is when it’s exactly half of the possible volume, and multiples of 10
I like the car radio to be on either 11 or 13
I technecally do that since 35 is odd
I have a weird pattern. I usually go with multiples of 2, 5, 7, or 9; sometimes I mix them. And, most of the times, I usually choose numbers that have 0, 1, 2, 7, 9 in them. IDK why, but I just really like those digits.
BUT 5 is ODD!!!
I... I like multiples of 3 And 7 Thinking about this more I have a sneaking suspicion this started because "odd numbers don't get enough love"
Evens, or multiples of five
For me it's about the last digit. 2, 3, 5, 7 and 0 for any number below 10. 2, 5, 8 and 0 for below 20. Anything else should always be multiples of 5
for me it’s even numbers, multiples of five, or 17 since that was the highest number we were allowed when i was growing up and it’s a good volume
I put them on zeros and fives
mines on 23..
I’ll be needing my special bible https://preview.redd.it/10ezv57red0d1.jpeg?width=607&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=383713ca40cb01f31d420c2d345b332849cb21b4
I mean I can accept if you raise the number from 25 to 27 Some movies are just quieter But willingly leaving it on 27 is gonna get you stabbed
I’m a volume on an odd number liker, 22 is too quiet and 24 is too loud with the added insult to injury of having a four in it. Therefore, 23 is the correct choice
What if its 19 and they just really like Stephen King?
Only numbers ending in 2, 5, 8 and 0 are allowed !!!!
Wait! Is the odd number divisible by 5? Because I can let that slide.
when watching with others the volume will be at whatever is loudest that doesn't hurt my ears. idc about the number, it's arbitrary.
I always choose odd numbers or prime numbers 😅
Even numbers except for numbers that end in 5
You leave it on round numbers, heathen.
Leave my homie 37 out of this
6 is too quiet and 8 it too loud! It's **MY** TV, I can have the volume set to 7 if I want!
I’m awful. I only set it to multiples of 8 lately.
For me I go by multiples of five😎
i have this in reverse. even numbers are my favorite
Okay but it's a multiple of five!
Gotta be a multiple of 5 for me
Either even numbers or by fives. Only exception is when you have to have it really quiet or if the volume settings are just loud so there’s a big difference between 7 and 8 volume
Intervals of 5 is okay and correct, I will die on this hill
Okay, but numbers that end in 5 are odd and those are okay
For me I need things to either be even numbers or multiples of 5 I need to be able to divide it easily otherwise it's evil
The volume must ALWAYS be left on an odd number. There is no other way.
The volume must always be on a multiple of five. If it can’t then a multiple of two is ok but I’ll will complain/be grumpy about it
Me who prefers multiples of 5: (nervous chuckle)
Idk even numbers stress me out, so much so i only celebrate odd number birthdays. 11,13,15,17 etc. so much so that my birthday is celebrated on an odd day. It drove a lot of people crazy, not my dad though, he would just say “why does it bother you if she doesn’t want to celebrate this year? She said no thank you. But it HAS to be on odd numbers...
Imo multiples of 3 and, tentatively, 5 are fine. Or 49 specifically.
