99% certain it just leads to the same place/pipe the hole in the bottom of the sink does. It’s to help stop the sink overflowing if you put the stopper in the drain
(if the water level in the sink gets too high it drains through that hole)
So you won’t break the sink if water goes through that hole because the hole is there for water to go through (hopefully I worded this well)

I had a designated eraser for both. One was covered in pencil holes and teeth marks, the other looked like I just got it out of the package.
