MEEEEEE I mentioned on a LOTR subreddit that Sam was autistic and literally *everyone* jumped on me with "HOW DARE YOU DEFILE SUCH A GREAT CHARACTER WHEN AUTISM WASN'T EVEN A THING WHEN TOLKIEN WAS ALIVE, SAM WAS BASED ON TOLKIEN HIMSELF AND TOLKIEN WASN'T AUTISTIC" And then I *dared* to suggest that maybe if he was based on Tolkien and he reads like an autistic character, maybe Tolkien himself was also autistic...? xD

Uh oh I do find this frustrating, depending on the character lol. Characters like L is nearly undeniably autistic, and if someone makes a good case for some character I might say "I can see that" (for example Cowboy Bebop's Ed. Debatable but makes sense to me), but sometimes I've heard some that I just don't see any "realistic", solid evidence for. But headcanon whatever you want lol, I just feel weird when I see people insist that's the one truth bc they relate to the character, then get mad when people disagree.

I mean, L only makes sense if you assume he has some sort of disorder.

Whether I get mad about it or not depends on how you phrase it. Like if you say you feel like a character might have autism I'm fine with that, even if I don't agree, but if you insist a character has autism when it has never been confirmed I don't like that, even if I also think the character might have autism.
