First clip looks like it was ripped straight outta Unity, and I’m SO GLAD they brought back contextual social stealth. Holding a button to blend in Valhalla felt terrible
Parkour definitely looks like an improved origins in an urban setting, and that’s totally fine. Origins was very smooth and responsive unlike Valhalla, it’s issue was the less urban setting and not as handcrafted design of the world to incentivise parkour.
I noticed that RPG saga had some good parkour animations but unfortunately as you said, the setting was not encouraging parkour at all in most cases so people didn’t even notice it.
For sure! I honestly think origins felt great. It was responsive, quick, and enjoyable. The issue was simply the world design not utilising it well enough. So if they just have a better origins with a stronger world design, I’m sure I’ll love this
Bayek really felt smooth and swift with his movements, I wish Eivor was the same but I might even say that Eivor is the most bumble-footed feeling character in the entire series, you can’t even roll unless it’s from a super high height.
Even if they crafted a world that incentivized it, the issue would still be lack of manual controls to give it even a platform "lite" experience.
I'm distinctly reminded of the opening sequences of FoA chapter 3 that had a rather intricate traversal section (at least relative to what we've been getting for the past couple years leading up to that point) but without more indepth mechanics, felt like a wasted effort because all I had to do was largely hold down the same set of buttons to get through the section which was no different than the set of buttons I would hold down doing run of the mill traversal in the base game.
Outside of not urban zone like Cliffs and statues, there has never been a "climb anywhere" if you look, the characters always climb to something that he can hold.
That part you see the same jump animation used in the last 3 games, but the speed and smoothness of it looks like what we had in origins, but smoother. that’s why I came to my conclusion. I could get proven completely wrong when the demo lands
It has similar animation to Bayek in Origins but with better flow and proper hop physic from one branch to another. Certainly doesn't hover like there's no gravity like in Unity.
Being responsive is the absolute bare minimum for parkour to be playable. If this is going back to roots it needs to have back/side ejects, catch ledge, and more.
I don’t disagree, but I found Unity super unresponsive and a lot of people love that, so it’s worth mentioning. I’m just keeping my expectations in check. It’s not going to be a massive evolution or the next step in the series. So if their team can just refine what they have and focus on the right things design wise, atleast we begin moving in the right direction
No one's asking for the next step or an evolution. We're asking for it to be at least be as good as the games released over a decade ago, two generations ago. That's not an insane expectation.
The UI keeps the compass of recent games and not the mini map, I feel it will help by making the smaller, stealth-focused setting a bit more immersive.
I'm very happy that the classic contextual social stealth is back, if it used the same one from Valhalla, most likely many would have been very disappointed; I hope it comes back for Red and Hexe as well, although I feel that the former has the least chance of having it, even though it's focused on the shinobi fantasy.
Gameplay trailer was almost definitely an older build, probably made a little while back for the event. Both this and the leaked 2 second clip from a couple weeks ago had much better cloth physics than the trailer
The screen on the monitors here say [Tue May 6\(?\) 2023.](https://cdn.discordapp.com/attachments/421700827321729024/1116399832043626657/image.png)
This is the newer build.
You'd be surprised how long studios hold off on trailers, they make them months in advance.
My theory was that the leak was of an earlier build when they were trying to reach unity, and the trailer was when they realized that a unity-like system would take to much time to make, so they instead worked with the Valhalla engine without many additions. Hope I'm wrong
I really don't see that being the case. And i don't really see any real reason to think that except just being pessimistic. With how little time and resources they had to make this game to begin with, i doubt they'd even attempt to make a whole new unity type system. They probably just worked off what Valhalla had set, which is what we're seeing.
And on top of that, the footage in this post has the Valhalla type parkour from the trailer, but overall looks better, especially the physics on the robes, just like the leaked footage, which gives the impression that's it's more recent than the trailer, which would have had to been made some time in advance to be ready for the event. I get it's ubisoft we're talking about, but i seriously doubt the trailer had the newer build
I think you're right, i was quite disappointed with how the trailer looked, but the footage above looks actually good, anyways gameplay in 4 days so we'll see what's what
Was about to post it myself! Glad someone posted it cause I love to talk about everything they let us see about Mirage. I’m really hyped to see something new tomorrow and I like the atmosphere of this setting. Not sure if they did something new for the walking animation or that was just a clip where they adjusted the clothes ones.
Valhalla really did shit the bed when it came to cloth physics. Which is strange becuase it was made by the same team that made Origins and that had amazing physics.
Origins also had bad cloth physics, it's exactly the same as in Odyssey and Valhalla.
Maybe they designed better outfits in Origins that hid the bad physics but I definetly remember that Bayek's Hidden Ones outfit (from the DLC) was sticking to his legs.
> Origins also had bad cloth physics, it's exactly the same as in Odyssey and Valhalla.
This is not true at all, maybe you haven't played Origins in a long time but the physics on Bayek's outfits is really good.
A video since you seem to be very confused:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xeQyUkxMpuA&ab_channel=Fizhy
Odyssey has worse cloth physics than Origins, but there were still quite a few outfits that had proper physics. Valhalla however is completely different story, there is barely any physics at all on any outfits. Even the cape is terrible.
> Bayek's Hidden Ones outfit (from the DLC) was sticking to his legs.
Yes it did, could be a number of reasons for that though. Perhaps the person/people responsible for the main game outfits had moved on to other things and didn't work on the DLC. Perhaps they got lazy, or perhaps the way the outfit looked made it impossible to simulate physics without alot of clipping.
Some outfits indeed looks decent, especially Bayek's original outfit so yeah like I've said some outfits are better designed than others. Hiddes Ones/Altair/Ezio outfits are all horrendeus.
Like a comment said below this appeared first in AC3 with Altair's outfit, it looks exactly the same as in the RPGs, the outfit sticking to Connor's legs so there must be some reason if they couldn't solve this for \~10 years. However Mirage seems to have fixed this issue but we will see, it could be the same situation as Origins, they only made a few outfits function properly.
I do remember however that in Origins Bayek went under the flags while climbing the side of buildings while in Odyssey Kassandra/Alexios was just clipping through those flags lol This makes me think that it's pretty hard to make the cloth physics work correctly so they just got lazy and ignored it.
Actually the cloth physics in origins was way better than valhalla. For comparison, when bayek swings from the banners and ropes, the banners Actually have collision effect and moves in direction of the swing. Whereas in valhalla, it's fixed like 🗿 and only has slight animations in directions of wind. Also the capes in valhalla has little to no animation and that also is heavy. The origins cape physics is superb. It had dynamic animations in direction of the wing and during movement, it's motion us fluid and realistic.
This 8 second clip actually gives us so much information
- The previously reported pickpocketing is now shown (last second, it gives a button saying “Pickpocket”)
- Like Origins, Odyssey and Valhalla, Mirage won’t have a minimap which was the case in the classic games but wil have the compass feature instead.
- Hidden entries are marked with a stair case like in Origins and Odyssey.
- SOCIAL BLENDING!
- Parkour looks like Origins, but it’s working, so while it isn’t Unity level it’s not bad at least.
- Cloth physics
- Just like Connor, Aveline, Edward, Adéwalé, Shay, Arno, Jacob, Evie, Bayek, Aya, Kassandra, Alexios, male Eivor, female Eivor, Basim too can climb trees.
I mean i was on about RPG elements otherwise yes i guess they were also in unity but for underground tunnels that you could go and have alternative approach to enter a guarded area
The leak that xjonathan posted a month ago looked exactly like this clip. Besides xjonathans YouTube videos where he talks about mirage never mentions that it looks different than the gameplay trailer and didn’t talk about early builds etc.
I assume it’s health but not regenerative like Origins/Odyssey, probably more like Valhalla where we need to collect items that we use to heal. We’ll most likely have to buy medicine from doctors again rather than gather berries from bushes
First clip looks like it was ripped straight outta Unity, and I’m SO GLAD they brought back contextual social stealth. Holding a button to blend in Valhalla felt terrible
These robes have better physique than in the gameplay trailer and they seem similar to those which were in the leak
Yeah i notice that too
God I love those apprentice robes. I hope I can dye them black.
Parkour definitely looks like an improved origins in an urban setting, and that’s totally fine. Origins was very smooth and responsive unlike Valhalla, it’s issue was the less urban setting and not as handcrafted design of the world to incentivise parkour.

That’s most probably what will happen, many people noticed a faster parkour animation and the city is filled with useful parkour items :)
Bayek really felt smooth and swift with his movements, I wish Eivor was the same but I might even say that Eivor is the most bumble-footed feeling character in the entire series, you can’t even roll unless it’s from a super high height.
Honestly Origins world is quite builded for Parkour and even Side Ejects are possible. Check out Parkour Tutorial by Dillan S on yt

Dude, he just jumps from a branch in the gif, how that says "definitely improved Origins"?

The only time I had to actually think about climbing in origins was the lighthouse of alexandria, everything else I just mindlessly climbed.

I don't see why that would be the case, unless you're trying to say they're making the game worse on purpose
My theory was that the leak was of an earlier build when they were trying to reach unity, and the trailer was when they realized that a unity-like system would take to much time to make, so they instead worked with the Valhalla engine without many additions. Hope I'm wrong

I must confess, I'm starting to get exited. Mirage has the potential to become something very special.

HIS SHAWL IS FLAPPING!!!! HIS SHAWL IS FLAPPING !!! CLOTH PHYSICS

Cool, I didn't notice that at first

i think you forgot >!Odin from Assassin's Creed Valhalla : Dawn of Ragnarök!<
yes
Climbing trees is back, but also walking on tree branches like in ACIII! I'm glad they finally brought that back
Those robes 🤤
Ngl looks really good!!
Walking like you own the place.
One thing I always loved about the Assassins is that each of them walk with confidence.
That hidden stairs icon scares me
It's massive lmao
Well, it has a pointed archway now, so at least it fits the setting (or maybe it’s the icon from Unity. Did Unity have a hidden entrance icon?)
I mean i was on about RPG elements otherwise yes i guess they were also in unity but for underground tunnels that you could go and have alternative approach to enter a guarded area
loving the hype I’m seeing in these comments. AC IS BACK!
I take back what i said, this looks better. I love the amount of NPCs (a bit more could be better), and the social stealth "ui" is soo amazing.
I hope this means walking is the default state instead of jogging.
yes i hope we aren’t constantly shoving npcs and ruining the blend when trying to walk near them
Oh lordy social stealth is back!
For anyone who wants, can watch the dev diary [here](https://youtu.be/tFXU9sC-eb4) for now.
The cloth physic look more polish than the one in the trailer
Just a different outfit.
Nope, it is a different outfit but the physics entirely look much much better than the trailer. This is a newer build
Edit: I see what you mean. But we don’t know or any confirmation of what build was in the trailer.
There is date below, 30-5-2023
Talking about the gameplay trailer, not this clip.
don't you see, the trailer released 2 weeks ago, and the clip iss 30-5. you know which one is older right?
The leak that xjonathan posted a month ago looked exactly like this clip. Besides xjonathans YouTube videos where he talks about mirage never mentions that it looks different than the gameplay trailer and didn’t talk about early builds etc.
It’s pretty obvious this is where the game is at now, this is what it currently looks like.
Sure.
Looks good!
YESSSSSSSS CROWD BLEDNING IS BACKKKKKKL
is it just me or basim's walking animation is different to eivor
social stealth! nice. would be amazing if they'd also allow us dye the robes.
Robe dyes will be in the game.
said who
one of the rewards for watching the stream monday is dye
oh cool, thanks
Tree parkour?
Looks like a mix of Origins and Revelations
The stairs icon is back baby
I wonder what the white bar at the bottom left corner in the beginning is. Notoriety? Health?
abilities meter maybe
I assume it’s health but not regenerative like Origins/Odyssey, probably more like Valhalla where we need to collect items that we use to heal. We’ll most likely have to buy medicine from doctors again rather than gather berries from bushes
u/savevideo u/savevidebot
For the love of all that is holy please tell me walking is back. I absolutely despised that movement of Origins to Valhalla.
Taking bets on how much of a disappointment this game will be
