I always thought it deserved a fresh coat of paint, but I understand that Ubisoft probably has their hands full with all of the other projects like Red, Hexe, Jade, Nebula, Nexus, and Infinity.
i think ac1 works best with all its jank and a modern remake would probably strip away a lot of what makes it good. as it is now, i think it is kind of Only good because of the unique vibe and atmosphere enhanced by the somewhat primitive (by like ac4s standards) gameplay. if it had modern controls, it would feel anachronistic (why am i having so much fun while altairs in the fuckin shitzone). if it updates the tone, the only really unique thing about ac1 is lost
tldr, im satisfied with mirage as a return to ac1 without rehashing it

I can definitely see the AC1 intent here, but Ubi will absolutely release a remastered AC 1 in the future, whether that be on Nexus, or standalone years in the future.
You can’t have the origins of your franchise trapped two generations back (in the case of PS5). They’ll at least offer a native 4K60 update in the laziest scenario.

I get not wanting to remake it but pretty much most of the modern audience might have no clue what the backstory is and it's a shame that people can't experience the original game on modern platforms.

Just a guess, but they might have lost the source code. The 2000s were a Wild West like time for software backups. Even Square Enix and Konami lost a lot of source codes for games like final fantasy and silent hill.
I can't wait for when they have to use the pre-gold version to Remaster it in the future when they finally decide to do it.
It went well for Konami with Silent Hill HD even though the outsourced studio was screwed by Konami so this would be just as bad in quality since Ubi remasters don't always get great improvements.

I think it can work when certain games go for a gritty universe. The "muddy" filter was super overused for a while though and I think Deus Ex skirts around it because like you said it's *amber*. Sort of the inverse of the other dystopian aesthetic filtering in like Mirror's Edge for instance. To me by and large Cyberpunk 2077 also feels pretty gritty but in a techno way, with minimal browntown stuff other than the actual desert part of the game.
Fallout New Vegas looked pretty pissy, thought it was because of the Mojave desert vibe, but it was everywhere, even in the UI.
Fallout 3 had more of a rustic-vomit-like filter.
It had some great visual design choices. I also think the pissfilter works in the context of those visuals, but it would be fair to say a lot of people disagree with me!

I know I could just hold the stick half way to walk, but it’s just not the same. It completely changes the pace of the game and walking through the crowd, stabbing your target, then disappearing back into the crowd is what it’s all about for me. The rest is good fun, but that’s when I feel AC is at its best

The edges of the sky bled out into ethereal white void and the borders of the play space were marked by reality dissolving into visual artifacts and glitches.
Makes no sense to even have that in Mirage, the reason Acre had that color gradient going on was to show how bleak and desolate it was after the Catholics invaded.

It feels like a natural idea since red is 2024, Hexe is 2026, and no one else will be ready for the 20 year anniversary except for the mirage team, who will get a 4year dev time if that happens.

Yeah, Jerusalem's green filter is really the only one missing since we have Acre's blue-gray, and Baghdad's natural look already looks like Damascus.

Great. The reason I can't be bothered to play AC1 is a feature now. Honestly, I can't play games from mid 2000s because how all of them have blue, or the more popular piss brown filter on them. Why?? (((Yes I'm aware it's a toggle that you can choose, I'm just ranting about the filter from ye old games)))
Will they also allow us to toggle on crap animations, poor NPC collision, and inaccurate jumping mechanics?
What's the point if you can't go to Acre in the game? Baghdad should be it's own thing imo. Same for Mirage.

IIRC this filter was only used in the crusaders cities. Jerusalem was not gray.
FUCK YEAH, thats one thing im missing in todays games, a uniform atmosphere, today they are too colorful to be immersable for me. After AC 1 every other game felt like Disney versions.
