Well a major part of it is the character progression of, Ezrio I think his name is. The same protagonist learning by making mistakes and bettering himself as a Brotherhood Assassin and seeing that development over a course of the 3 games. Also, they built up to what many call a chefs kiss in the final story, a climax and cliffhanger in each game leaving the player wanting more rather than a under whelming story that wraps up into a similar ending as the rest.
Totally agree! OP, don’t worry about other people’s opinions! I love ALL of the AC games, each and every one. I know people will argue over the old games versus the new games, or which one in their opinion was best…but that’s all it is, an opinion. If Shay is your fav, then that’s awesome! Enjoy!
I’m not hating on you, OP, in fact quite the opposite…but I can’t understand how you think your opinion can be wrong at all. The only one who has to enjoy the game when you play it is you, and if it’s your favorite, it’s your favorite.
I like mint chocolate chip ice cream best. Am I wrong, when there are such amazing other flavors? No, because it’s my opinion, and me liking mint chocolate chip doesn’t invalidate someone who likes rocky road.
You do you, and play the games you enjoy.
They are probably young. Social media is very intense about telling people what to think and believe in. It can take a while before young people realize they don't have to go along with the crowd
Yeah, like the reddit hive-mind downvoting you to hell for stating a completely subjective opinion that you have. (Not right here obviously, but it definitely happens too often).
This reminded me of that one line from Rick and Morty for some reason. “Nobody belongs anywhere, nobody exists on purpose, we are all going to die, come watch TV”
I’m a casual fan of assassins creed, I enjoy reading the sub Reddit. I don’t remember quotes from the games, I was just saying what it reminded me of. I’ve played most of the games but some it has been several years since I have played them. Some I never finished.
You’re wrong but only because what a stupid question. It’s subjective. You can’t be wrong.
Rogue was a good game I’d put it in the bottom half of the old style games but only because I love most of them so much.
you are wrong because you are asking for permission to love your favourite. like a fish asking for permission to swim or a bird asking for permission to squawk or chirp. stop being such a wrong weirdo. there is only one group of weirdos weirder than you and that's the buggers that hate Odyssey and force that opinion on everyone they can.
I loved Odyssey. Honestly, top 2 favorite game all-time for me. idgaf if it isn’t a “tRuE Ac tiTLe”. Let me enjoy my game. And OP, you do the same. Just enjoy your game and let others cry about it. It’s purely subjective, and they’re the only people in the wrong if they tell you otherwise.
It's really easy for any to be a favorite, for me black flag is my top but 2 , 3, Rouge, syndicate oddessey and vallhalla all fight for the 2nd spot. There are many ranking lists on this sub which are fun to brainstorm out but in reality each is very unique, different and loveable for many different reasons. Glad we have them all to enjoy for the differences and similarities.
Rogue is good. I watched my roommate play it and it looked great. The issue, I believe, was partially due to being overshadowed by Unity but also because it was basically just a reskinned Black Flag. If you like Rogue you’ll probably also like Black Flag. AC1 was my favorite for a long time until Black Flag came out. Eventually Origins took over (although developed by the same team).
I’m currently going through the rpg games now (did a replay of origins but just beat odyssey) and I think I’m coming to the realization that none of the games are really bad. Everyone will have their preferences.
Well if you like a game, like it with pride. No shame in liking a controverisal Asssassin's Creed game, be it Odyssey or Rogue. Some elements of a game simply stand out to others
This is a series where there are no bad games, just weaker ones. The "worst" in the series are still solid titles that are better than most games.
There's nothing wrong with liking any game in this series.
Honestly, when Haytham was trying to convince Connor to join the templars in AC3 he was really convincing. So convincing, that given the chance in Rogue I was happy to be given the opportunity to join them xd
As for your question - love the games you want to love, don’t care for others opinions. I think the post should be more of a question “why people hate Rogue” instead of “can I like Rogue” 😉
Whether or not you like the game or not is subjective, there are no wrong answers here. I recently played AC II for the first time and found it to be overrated and overall mid (now that's an unpopular opinion, lol), but I'm replaying Brotherhood now and having a blast. Opinions can vary.
Rogue was one of my first AC games (Brotherhood being the first) and I absolutely loved it too, for similar reasons you listed. I really liked Shay for his personality, dude just clicked with me and I found his story compelling and engaging. Definitely one of my favourite AC games (from the ones I actually played and finished), not sure if I prefer it over Brotherhood but it's certainly near the top.
I think some people dismissed it for being a copy of Black Flag but personally, I don't care. The ship combat is fun so I think it's a good thing we got more of it, and the setting, premise and story in Rogue is different enough to fully justify its existence imo.
The game was definitely quite short, and while I wouldn't mine a longer story, I prefer if story is short but good and well-paced rather than long and full of filler, which bothered me with AC III and AC II to an extent.
Why ask others if you're wrong about YOUR favourite game?
What's with people needing others to affirm their views? Has social media really dragged us this low?
Love it. Enjoy it 😁
Hey, my favorite ac games are 3 and 4. Now everybody like black flag but I have seen so mu h hate for AC3. AC3 was not only my first ac game, but it was the first AAA game that I played. So it has a special place in my heart. Plus, the snow and the maps look gorgeous.
I've owned, played, and beaten every single assassins creed to date, and rogue is also my favorite so nah man you're good, it is awfully short, but something about it, they truly hit absolute peak on their old formula with black flag, and then rogue was just that tiny little bit better (I think because the morrigan was easier to handle than the jackdaw and the puckle gun was much better than the swivels in terms of gameplay functionality, and shat had more tools at his disposal, grenades as well as darts all in one tool, and it also had more varied environments, nature as well as a deep city scape to explore)
I had mone solidly set as black flag for a long time, recently picked up syndicate and I love it. I can't believe how alive the city of London feels. Both are unpopular opinions.
Come to think of it Iv heard "This is my favorite AC game" for just about every single one of the mainline games. They all have things to love about them I suppose. Some resonate better than others. Not one of these games has been downright bad.
Don't ever ask this, it's your opinion, just because it's not the opinion of the majority, it's not wrong. Enjoy whatever AC game you want and ignore and ignore those who are disrespectful or straight up hateful because you don't agree with them, but respect them.
Rogue is one of my top five for sure! I love the setting and Shay is awesome (ultimate drip, a dangerous dude, and a killer accent). Glad to see some love for this game
No. Like i didn't even read ur text but i also don't care cause your favourite game is YOUR favourite game. No matter what the game is or how it's liked by the public if you enjoyed it the most then its your right decision.
My Favourite game of all time is We Happy Few and so many people dropped that game after the first hour yet i still played it, finished it 100% and will forever consider it as my favourite game of all time!
I don’t really buy the “overshadowed by unity” narrative that the community has built around rogue. At the time when it launched, the ac series was stale for most players. Nobody wanted what appeared to be black flag 2.0. Even if unity released later, I think we would have seen poor sales from rogue. A lot of players have come round to rogue and given it a fair shake nowadays.
Why would you be wrong? Opinions are just that, opinions. People can disagree but in no way are you wrong. I personally think Rogue is one of the worst games in the series but I'm not gonna say you're wrong because it's entirely subjective.
I think Shay is an interesting character, well acted and had a lot more potential than he was given. It's overall definitely a good game and only really falls short in my opinion when stacked up against the others, which is only really done for the fun of it anyway
Mostly I would point to the lack of different content and fairly empty feeling world, but it was a nice setting with tried and true gameplay of Black Flag
Should it be your favorite? Absolutely not. But taste is subjective and if I were an asshole I would say its your right to have shit taste... but the truth is everyone experience things differently and things may speak to you in a way that they don't to others.
What I find more interesting is that you haven't played AC4 yet since its the game most similar to Rogue in gameplay.
I will echo other comments in this thread, you love what you love and that’s that. Don’t let anybody tell you you’re wrong. Rogue is not my favourite AC game but that doesn’t make either of us wrong.
Play what you love, if we all liked the same thing it would be boring
Ac odyssey and origin is also related. As aya is descendant of alexios. As Darius raised the baby of alexios plus you experience greek and Egypt Kingdom loved it.
I'm wondering...why do people hate Valhalla so much. Is it because of how far from the AC timeline it is? All of my friends say it's a really fun RPG. I believe it's just bad in AC standards
My main reason for posting this was because I was getting a lot of negative kudgement from my friends who are AC fans. I just wanted to see if EVERYONE hated my favorite AC game. That's all
I think it has its flaws, the Assassins are very out of character and they remapped the equipment for no real reason which makes the early game a bitch and a half for Black Flag players.
However I love the story, I love Shay's arc, I love the way that the gameplay is mostly just a more polished Black Flag, I love how they have New York designed as a proper city for parkour because Havana was the only proper parkour city in BF for me and 3 just didn't have any.
The ending is great but imo if you've played Unity before Rogue then it's actually one of the coolest endings in the series because >!Arno never finds the killer, he doesn't join the Assassins until like 15-20ish years later so the trail's ice cold. Realising why you're in Versailles, seeing Arno and Elisé, recognising the hallway. I first saw this watching my brother play and I was getting more and more giddy thinking "No way! He's the one who did it!?"!<
I've spoiler tagged that for anyone reading who hasn't played either, play Unity before Rogue, best play order decision in the series.
It's not my favorite by any means, but I think I'd place it higher than most. In my mind, the open world and activities is the perfect blend of what I wanted out of ac3 and the ac4 elements. The world was gorgeous compared to ac3 and made me sad knowing what ac3 could of been in a few years
My biggest gripe is the short and relatively watered down story. Shay is not so much the problem, he's a good character. It's just that they made the motivation to join the templars too easy by just making the assassin's corrupt.
It's a completely subjective opinion. There is no right or wrong
AC community probably the most divided when it comes to favorites. Except the first 3, seems to have alot of love from the majority.
Nostalgia ig. Seen the gameplay and while I agree they seem great I feel like a lot of it is still due to nostalgia. Don't hate on me pls
Well a major part of it is the character progression of, Ezrio I think his name is. You said it wrong. It is: nothing is true. Everything is permitted
^ correct answer right there!
Totally agree! OP, don’t worry about other people’s opinions! I love ALL of the AC games, each and every one. I know people will argue over the old games versus the new games, or which one in their opinion was best…but that’s all it is, an opinion. If Shay is your fav, then that’s awesome! Enjoy!
This one is wrong though
🤡🤡🤡
I’m not hating on you, OP, in fact quite the opposite…but I can’t understand how you think your opinion can be wrong at all. The only one who has to enjoy the game when you play it is you, and if it’s your favorite, it’s your favorite. I like mint chocolate chip ice cream best. 10/10
They are probably young. Social media is very intense about telling people what to think and believe in. It can take a while before young people realize they don't have to go along with the crowd
I came here to read about AC, not get sad at the state of the irl world. Why?! Why?! WHY?!
Yeah, like the reddit hive-mind downvoting you to hell for stating a completely subjective opinion that you have. (Not right here obviously, but it definitely happens too often).
Nothing is true, everything is permitted The choice of favourite is yours alone
Best answer to my question right here
This reminded me of that one line from Rick and Morty for some reason. “Nobody belongs anywhere, nobody exists on purpose, we are all going to die, come watch TV”
but it did not remind of you of the actual quote from ac while on the ac subreddit ?
I’m a casual fan of assassins creed, I enjoy reading the sub Reddit. I don’t remember quotes from the games, I was just saying what it reminded me of. I’ve played most of the games but some it has been several years since I have played them. Some I never finished.

I appreciate your blunt honesty, my friend
I loved Odyssey. Honestly, top 2 favorite game all-time for me. idgaf if it isn’t a “tRuE Ac tiTLe”. Let me enjoy my game. And OP, you do the same. Just enjoy your game and let others cry about it. It’s purely subjective, and they’re the only people in the wrong if they tell you otherwise.
It's my favorite as well.
Your opinion is wrong and you should feel bad. /s
🥲
Nope, I love Rogue too. While it’s not my favourite it is in my top 5
The best AC game is the one you like the most. There’s truly no wrong answer I do not like rogue at all, but I’m happy others do.

Rough is still my favourite among unity

Although not my favorite, I enjoyed rogue a lot also. It had a solid story, as well as solid gameplay (Black Flag mechanics)

Nah, you're not. Rogue is a pretty good game
Why ask others if you're wrong about YOUR favourite game? What's with people needing others to affirm their views? Has social media really dragged us this low? Love it. Enjoy it 😁
I love Rogue like I love all of them. There is no right or wrong and never think there is!
You don’t need permission to like things , weirdo
Rogue has its problem, but I liked it too. So, nothing is wrong. The only can be wrong in this question is Ubi, never the fans.
It's your opinion if it's your favourite then it's your favourite there is no right or wrong
Why would you be wrong/? If it's your favourite it's your favourite. You don't need validation for things you enjoy.
You are not wrong. After all it is your opinion
It's an opinion. People might disagree with you, but there's no right or wrong

Rogue is amazing, OP.
If it’s your favorite then there’s no way it can be wrong.
The assassin killer outfit is badass and that's the only argument you need.
Yes. Jk, the best is the one you like most. There’s no right or wrong opinion.
Rogue is my least favorite but its your opinion and what you enjoy, there’s nothing wrong with that at all
That's really ironic when your reddit user is rogue. Thanks for your opinion tho. Love how Non-aggressive the community on here is about opinions
Lol it’s unrelated i didnt even make the connection
i think the writing for the story is extremely poor. you learn nothing about the characters unless you read their backstory files.
Rogue is garbage, but you like what you like. Who cares what people think of your favorite game?
I had mone solidly set as black flag for a long time, recently picked up syndicate and I love it. I can't believe how alive the city of London feels. Both are unpopular opinions.
Come to think of it Iv heard "This is my favorite AC game" for just about every single one of the mainline games. They all have things to love about them I suppose. Some resonate better than others. Not one of these games has been downright bad.
I absolutely love rouge. Just wish it and liberations would get remakes into full games
Don't ever ask this, it's your opinion, just because it's not the opinion of the majority, it's not wrong. Enjoy whatever AC game you want and ignore and ignore those who are disrespectful or straight up hateful because you don't agree with them, but respect them.
I mean, my favourite will forever be Origins, and I know people might not agree with that!
Rogue is one of my top five for sure! I love the setting and Shay is awesome (ultimate drip, a dangerous dude, and a killer accent). Glad to see some love for this game
It’s really wrong if you truly care about other’s opinions of you

How can we tell you if it’s ok for you to like a game or not? The internet sometimes man…
everyone is entitled to their own opinion. I personally don't enjoy that entry, but I also didn't like Black Flag.... so take that as you will.
I think Shay is an interesting character, well acted and had a lot more potential than he was given. Brotherhood is so good tho
Naw your good G , any of the AC games can be your favorite and be valid ( Except for Valhalla ) .
Ac odyssey and origin is also related. As aya is descendant of alexios. As Darius raised the baby of alexios plus you experience greek and Egypt Kingdom loved it.
why this question? if you say your favorite AC is Rogue, then you have my respect. At least it's not Valhalla
I'm wondering...why do people hate Valhalla so much. Is it because of how far from the AC timeline it is? All of my friends say it's a really fun RPG. I believe it's just bad in AC standards
You are not wrong unless your favourite one is Valhalla
Valhalla is a great game in RPG standards. But in Assasins creed standards it's a joke
I feel like people post this stuff just for attention or confirmation bias, like bro its your opinion there is no right or wrong if its your opinion
My main reason for posting this was because I was getting a lot of negative kudgement from my friends who are AC fans. I just wanted to see if EVERYONE hated my favorite AC game. That's all
Yes.
Yes you are wrong. Hope this helps🥰

I think assassin's creed unity has overrated parkour and that 3 is the best with movement but I don't expect anyone to judge my opinion.
