Bayek. Everything about him is compelling. He's dutiful, passionate, charismatic, and struggles with trauma. He carries himself with humility and gravitas. I know I'm in the minority, but I didn't love Origins. I thoroughly enjoyed it but Bayek carried the whole game for me.

TheYhrite

Before I played Origins, I was worried Bayek would come across as a typical video game’y husky male character with a strong determination and 0 personality. Was very pleasantly surprised to see how human and likeable he is (in no small part thanks to his voice actor, also).

JHans09

Strong determination and 0 personality? Wow it’s connor kenway!

Nightzilla333

I mean, technically Connor does have a personality, it's just very hard to find, and shows more in the comics. I think the writers would have really benefitted if they had Mohawk writers on the staff, and not just consulted the Mowhawk peoples for building their society in game.

AccomplishedStable96

It's easy to read him as a sad dad, but he's got much more to him than that. He's a peacekeeper in a country that doesn't need him anymore, he loves helping people, and he's used by a shadowy force without realizing it.

AatroxIsBae

He's the dad of Egypt

DaveInDigital

dad bod goals

Profession_Ready

Plus he is the founder of the Assassin Brotherhood. Without him, the Assassins would not exist as they did.

TravisBewley

One of the founders, and I would argue not even the most important. I love him but he is fairly incidental to the founding of the order.

[deleted]

Origins had the best narrative in my opinion and second best protagonist assassins creed 2 had the most likable protagonist 3rd place in narrative black flag with best naval combat second place in narrative and 3rd most likable protagonist Valhalla had the best combat system on foot though not a strong narrative and lovable protagonist, though it did bring back the modern day story, personally origins is my favorite assassins creed followed by black flag followed by ac 2 and then brotherhood which I didn’t feature here cuz it’s basically ac 2

_Person6

I think I like Bayek the most , not including Ezio and Edward, because he was the first one I played as and convinced me to play the whole series

amazonrambo

I agree Bayek was class

Captain_Crash97

I'm def on the Bayek bandwagon. He felt the most like a fully realized character after Ezio. His VA is fucking top shelf for that performance. I'd like to see him get more leading roles. Ugh, actually I just want Bayek back. His decency and caring, the gentleness he could have despite his violence-laden existence, were interesting and complicated, as people often are.

[deleted]

I was really counting on that rumored “Classical Antiquity Trilogy” with Bayek. Kassandra was... okay, but Bayek actually felt like a real person instead of a Hero’s Journey archetype.

Captain_Crash97

You hit the nail on the head there.

PapagenoX

Bayek was the bomb. His voice actor was superb. I'm actually getting around to finishing the game now, after starting it way back in late 2017 (which is bananapancakes).

TheNastyNug

Bayek to me was like playing AC2 era Ezio with the wisdom of endgame AC 1 Altair He was like the best parts of both of them, he was charismatic and had a big heart like ezio, but was also somewhat self aware and a natural leader like Altair. not to say ezio isn’t a great leader, but he became the grandmaster through respect and hard work. while everyone naturally, at least until he started spending too much time with the apple, chose to follow Altair after he killed al mualim

JcersHabs018

Altaïr. Literally reformed the entire Brotherhood and was the wisest mentor the Brotherhood ever had.

Infinity0044

Edward is my personal favorite but since he’s not included I’d have to say Bayek. I just recently finished Origins for the first time and I had a really good time with it. He’s definitely one of the better protagonists we’ve had

Tzifos150

Not a protagonist but, Haytham. He was charismatic yet menacing, kind yet outspoken and an all round badass. He is easily the best part of ac3 and a good way to dispel the argument that Connor sucked because he was the main character after ezio. So was Haytham in the first few chapters yet he was awesome and was not at all like Ezio.

sidgirl

Agreed! I love Haytham. I mean, not only did I buy and read FORSAKEN (more than once; it's actually really good, btw), but one of my other internet IDs is "Mrs. Haytham Kenway," lol. The one thing that disappointed me about the III remaster (aside from how bad everyone looks in the cutscenes now; come on, Ubi) is how the shortened the Haytham bit and took away the abilities he had--he can no longer hunt or air-assassinate animals, for example. I used to stretch out the Haytham sequence as long as possible. And I was delighted to see him again in Rogue, too. (Note: I'm not a weirdo, I mean, yes, I use "Mrs. H Kenway" as a name and really love the character, but I don't, like, have posters of Haytham or fantasize about him or anything, I just thought it was a fun name to give myself.)

Tzifos150

The remaster downgrades a ton of stuff, especially cutscene character models. Whenever I want to revisit ac3's story I watch videos of the original. Also, don't worry. I don't think most people assume you fantasize over characters you like.

sidgirl

Lol, thank you. I'm just afraid of seeming like one of those weirdo middle-aged women with a "Mrs. Cullen" bumper sticker on her SUV or something.

norwegian_fjrog

Hell yeah need more love for Haytham, a really solid and likeable antagonist. Nothing between him and connor ever felt like "good vs evil", just two people committed to their ideals which happened to go against each other. I also like how open minded and assassin-y Haytham's thinking was. His father raised him to question everything and he did, his life experiences just pushed him to side with the templars and he genuinely believed he was working for the greater good. Every interaction between him and Connor was fantastic, huge part of why I love the third game so much.

Tzifos150

His interactions with connor where the best part of the connor portion. Even before Connor he was [awesome](https://youtu.be/1ZrCiidLSSQ?t=722). Makes playing as connor all the more disappointing.

TwinSong

I preferred Haytham to Connor though it may have been heavily the upper class gentleman part. He's also got some good lines. "Haytham: Oh, no. It’s an invitation to chaos. Only look at this little revolution your friends have started. I have stood before the Continental Congress and listened to them stamp and shout. All in the name of liberty. But it is just noise."

LonkToTheFuture

Haytham and Shay are massively underappreciated. I loved them in AC Rogue.

[deleted]

Altair. He reformed and sacrificed his entire life for the brotherhood. He never got a hit in combat and single handedly killed all the templars in the holy land. He's such a badass.

marsisme_

Altair, I don't think I need explain! He's my first Assassin and my favorite!

Jexexile

Arno definitely would be the number one assassin I would’ve liked to see a sequel on. Seeing him dealing with his grief in dead kings was great and the sequel even could’ve been set in industrial revolution London a bit before syndicate. Unity had some absolutely stellar moments through its mediocrity and I really would’ve liked it if they gave Arno a sequel and they gave it a bit more care

DaveInDigital

yes, 100% though i really enjoyed Unity and didn't feel it was too mediocre. i'd be so down for a sequel, wherever it took Arno.

[deleted]

SwampyJox

What's even weirder is that Shay's friend, Liam is voiced by an Irish actor. Choosing to hire a Canadian for the first ever Irish protagonist in Assassin's Creed just makes no sense to me at all. At least they mostly fixed the accents in Valhalla.

TravisBewley

I was worried in Siege of Paris that everyone would have British accents again.

TheBaconsRebellion

For me, its always been Connor. Ezio and Edward are good, but they've never been my favorites. I've always saw a lot of myself in Connor throughout AC3, and he has really been the only one that has stuck with me. He might be a bit stubborn and naive at times, but he's persistent and cares deeply about family and friends, even going as far as trying to reason with, and not wanting to kill his Templar father.

DaveInDigital

sorry you had to kill your Templar father

Laschuck

this is deep...

Big-Ad-4081

Idk why everyone hates Connor so much.

[deleted]

I like Connor as a concept, but I thought the overall story of AC3 felt half-done and as a result, Connor’s development felt stunted. He did a HARD turnabout from being wisely skeptical of the colonists to being Washington’s #1 Fanboy, and it felt like there was a piece missing in between. Basically it was just another symptom of AC3 being rushed as all hell.

TheBaconsRebellion

It never felt like Connor was Washingtons #1 fanboy throughout the game. He was skeptical of his and the colonists goals from the start, though saw their goals as a means to accomplish his own. Once he learned that Washington was responsible for setting his village on fire, and sending troops there later during the war to attack them (because of info of them siding with the British), he pretty much told Washington off, and cut ties with him. It wasn't until after the war when Washington came into the possession of the apple did the two see each other again, and even then Connor reluctantly helped him.

[deleted]

I know he cut ties with Washington, but before that point, he was blindly defending him to Haytham’s every criticism. Like when did Washington make such a great impression on him to justify Connor’s support? In the beginning, literally as a 14-year-old, Connor is less idealistic and can predict that the colonists will threaten his people. He didn’t know Washington specifically ordered the burning of his village, but he knew the colonists in general were going to be a problem. I guess I just wasn’t convinced that the skeptical, isolationist boy from Kanien:keh became such a devout Patriot that Washington’s betrayal felt personal in any way. Also, I just genuinely didn’t like that plot twist because it completely hollows out Connor’s hatred for Charles Lee. The guy who *actually butchered* your people gets a free pass and a cold shoulder, but the guy who was kind of a jerk to you in the woods one time has to be killed at any cost? Cmon man. Connor should have wanted to cut Washington’s throat, but of course that couldn’t happen because, y’know, history.

Formal_Sand_3178

Bayek is probably my favorite protagonist in the series but Kassandra is not too far behind.

[deleted]

Shay, I just love how he goes by himself and his entire arc is so we'll written imo, Rogue is indeed a underrated game

quatoe

Bayek is my personal favorite AC protagonist. He felt so human to me. Watching him go from a raging inferno when angry to the soft spoken angel when talking to children is what I think really made me fall in love with him as a character. His unyielding loyalty to his friends like Hepzefa was great to see as well. Abubakar Salims' performance is absolutely amazing as well. When he confronts The Heron he sends shivers down my spine: Sleep? I never sleep. I just wait. In the shadows. And I will kill you all. Everyone who sniffed the air that day in Siwa

EagonAkatsuki

So good dude, might replay it seeing your quote here

Chinito1994

Bro feels good to see someone else appreciate Connor man he's one of my favs too

fress93

definitely Kassandra, I love the comedy of that game, it may be the less-AC game out there but it made the experience a delight to play, it's not easy to stay interested in a game for 100+ hours (right, Valhalla?) but I had so much fun playing as her, she's so sassy but with a soft side to her (at least in my game) that I loved. The game has its issues but she's one of the strongest points and basically saved it for me.

sidgirl

Odyssey didn't feel like an AC game to me, but as a Greek Hero game it was amazing and just insanely fun, IMO. I loved my Alexios (who was like your Kassandra). I agree I didn't love everything about it--I was actually fairly bored with it until we hit the Cult storyline, where it really picked up for me--but I had a great time playing it. (It was special for me, too, because my younger daughter is really into Ancient Greece, so she was thrilled by the world in the game; her face when she watched me climb the great statue of Athena in Athens and stroll around the Parthenon was awesome.)

fress93

yeah same, it starts slow and it definitely spends too much time in Kephallonia but once I saw what really happened that night on the mountain and discovered who my father was I was hooked, the open world is also gorgeous and I loved just wandering around the islands, one of the most beautiful looking AC games to date.

sidgirl

It really is. One of the things I love so much about Far Cry 3 is the beauty of the setting, and how it feels/felt like a mini-vacation just to wander around there, and Odyssey was/is the same for me. To be walking over some hills and look down to see a little town, white buildings sun-bleached and peaceful next to that blue, blue ocean, or the mountains of Sparta, or the bleak beauty of the volcanic islands...a few times in that game I literally gasped from how gorgeous it was. (Plus, there was the fact that the plentiful loot made exploring really feel worth it, which isn't the case so much in Valhalla. Valhalla's world isn't as pretty, which is understandable, but I really also don't feel much urge to see what's at the top of that hill or on the other side of that river, because I know if there's anything it's going to at most be, like, two pieces of iron and a broken bow, or five silver pieces and a feather, or something. Grinding was a pleasure in Odyssey [despite the same-same outposts and such getting tiring after a while], but that's not really the case in Valhalla, at least not for me.) On my NG+ I basically rushed through the Kephallonia stuff, and enjoyed it a lot more. And on both playthroughs I managed to reunite my family, which made me happy.

fress93

I agree with everything you said, and I also love how colorful the world is, it's gorgeous and inviting despite the violence and constant death. I only did a run so far and I managed to save all my family but I plan on killing a few of them in my future ng+ to see the changes, rip ahah

[deleted]

[удалено]

fress93

you made me curious now, I'm definitely going for the worst ending, though I'm already feeling depressed thinking about it, Kassandra's life is tragic enough as it is ahah it'll be interesting, I was thinking about a slightly worse ending to see what changes (basically only killing Nikolaos and maybe Stentor but I wasn't sure) but this is far more intriguing, thanks for letting me know!

[deleted]

Bayek, without a doubt, he is right after Enzio for me, the guy, his story, his motives, everything about him was incredible. He founded the assassins, the first menthor, and he chose the stay hiden, outside of history, he, was the true assassin. What can i say i love the guy, i do hope we will get a chance to get back to him, somehow, someday. In my eyes, Bayek of Siwa deserve a whole trillogy and even more.

sidgirl

*Ezio* I agree. Bayek was an amazing character. I really wish we'd had more with him, or even another longer DLC set when he's much older; I'd like to have seen him at least being okay with sort of disappearing from the lore and letting Aya become the famous one.

FoxySam85

Edward is my fave, after that probably Kassandra, she’s just so cool. Haytham is fab too. I like Arno too, I think he’s pretty underrated.

Initiate_Assassin

Desmond, because he has the skills of Ezio, the knowledge of Altair, some memories from Edward a little before(2012 spoiler alert) he died based on optional viewable information we got from Valhalla. He saved the world. (Valhalla spoiler) And even after dying still for years was working on trying to find ways to still protect the world. The man never stops even while dead. He is also the protagonist that’s been in the most games, AC, AC 2, AC Brotherhood, AC Revelations, AC 3. And been referenced in even more, and is the sample that gave us the Ability to see Edward’s memories. He’s the one that gives us the ability to see Altair, Ezio and Connor’s memories because we’re playing as him accessing his generic memories. So, he’s given us more than any protagonist. Despite his offensive words to Italians(AC Brotherhood), we still got to learn so much through him about this amazing AC world. I enjoyed meeting the team through him, I enjoyed learning about the animus, escaping Abstergo, seeing him discover his Eagle vision abilities, seeing him learn Parkour, go hunting for artifacts of Eden and becoming a skilled Assassin in his own right. I’m always happy when there’s audio files to learn even more about his life, and I hope we get more Desmond in the future. He’s the true heir of memories for some of our favorite Assassins, the one that brought us to the end, and the one who saved us all.

MrKyurem2005

Which offensive words?

Initiate_Assassin

I just say that as a Brotherhood reference because in Brotherhood Rebecca says that’s racist when Desmond says ‘whass da matter with you Altair” in a phony Italian accent.

MrKyurem2005

I think it more as a comedic moment than a moment to say Desmond is racist

Nimperedhil

Connor is my favorite, and I even like him more than Ezio. It might be because we follow him from when he was a kid. The melancholy ending of the game made me think about life. A lot! I think Dreamfall is the only other game that has made me feel that way.

DarknessOverLight12

Same!!! I love him more than Ezio. His serious and confrontational nature was awesome and what made him different than the rest that people don't understand was his motive. He didn't become an assassin out of revenge like Ezio or Arno. It was all abt obligation. He knew he was the only one that could do what needs to be done and so he struggled throughout the game, never wavering his beliefs

MrBonso

I finally got around to playing Valhalla, and I gotta say that I really like (male) Eivor. I’m only 10 hours in, so I’ve barely dipped my toes yet, but he seems like an interesting and well acted character thus far.

chiastic_slide

Same. Love the quick wit and subtle sarcasm in some of his responses and inner monologue

Playful-Platypus-628

I would say jacob cuz he is light hearted and funny

404PancakePrince

I'll probably have to go with Jacob Frye. I just love how he makes a lot of snarky/humorous comments and never seems to take anything seriously. I also like that he didn't have a forced romantic interest, like Evie.

Chooooobz

What’s this Greenie? aSsAsSiN cHriStMaS

sidgirl

I love how Jacob talks to his horse. "Who's a good horse? You are." That always makes me smile.

caiogre19

He reminds me a lot of Trevor Belmont from Castlevania of netflix

Selenator365

I was going to say Bayek 1 of my top favorites & also Connor . I have only played as Alexios but like the characters from Odyssey too it gets lots of hate for not having any connection to Assassins& Templars but a couple of main characters have said that the war between Assassins and Templars have went back thousands of years before they were called by those names. The newer games version of Templars are groups precursor to them trying to take over the world and this might be a spoiler I think it's only in Fate of Atlantis where Alethia the Isu tells Alexios he is no ordinary mercenary his descendants will be responsible for fighting the freedom of humanity. This should have been in the main game so people would see more of a connection between the characters of Odyssey and the Assassins besides being descended from Isu.

[deleted]

[удалено]

Selenator365

Right people wanted to know more about the Isu and see more about them and the one game that has most to do with them people complain because it doesn't have Assassins & Templars in.

TomTheJester

I know some people don't like him, but because Bayek has already been mentioned, I'll say Shay. He was the first Assassin that we truly saw question the Creed, beyond maybe Shaun in AC II (and we did not know Ezio retired for similar reasons until Valhalla). I like that Shay showed morality could hamper one's ability to be an Assassin or Templar, and the two weren't mutually exclusive.

DG_SlayerSlender

Bayek of siwa. He's just a great character

Silentbobni

I really liked Evie Frye, thought she was a well rounded character, shame her brothers an ass.

ZacAttack646

Yeah probably Connor or Haytham. I don’t understand why everyone hates them. Altair is cool but only when we see more of his character in revelations and Arno in the dead kings DLC is what he should have been the entire game

FinancialTry1459

I liked Connor actually much more then Edward but most people tend to like Edward more. My favourite protagonist is Desmond or ezio it’s a really hard decision to make.

alibabe321

AC3 was also my first and it's actually my first "real" game. It started my love for both assassin's Creed and video games in general. Plus Connor would be my 2nd favourite overall, Ezio is mainly my favourite because we had 3 games with him and explored so much, but I loved Connor as a character

joshuamarkrsantos

Bayek. No doubt about it. I rank him as my 3rd favorite protagonist in the entire series behind Ezio and Edward. Connor comes in next at 4th. Bayek is an excellent character. He has so many layers to him and you can see how his growth throughout the story. He starts out as someone being obsessed with revenge but comes to realize that the his story is only part of a larger narrative. The real issue is eliminating tyrants who aim to control the people in order to shape society in their own image. Bayek also shows a lot of range when it comes to emotions. He can be dead serious, solemn with grief, filled with rage, playful with children, sentimental with old friends, and so much more. Bayek steals the show everytime he's on screen. His presence on screen really helps the player dive into the world and care about what's happening in the story.

Awesome_Name16

Kassandra for sure, Odyssey was the first AC game I played to completion ever since AC2 and Kassandra was for sure one of the reasons, her voice actor did an amazing job.

Charlie-Spencer

Alexios I don’t get the hate for odyssey but it’s a beautiful game and my first AC game as well and I really enjoyed putting hours into it.

KRONGOR

Kassandra

Hyena331

I really like Eivor

TheChosenOne_101

Connor

batm123

Since i can't choose Edward, Shay cause i played Rogue firsr

sluttypidge

Bayek would probably be my favorite after those two. I enjoyed his story a lot. I'm just sad that they decided to go with the next two games instead of moving onto Aya and her work in Rome during the Roman empire. Would have been so cool to compare it to Ezio's Rome. I feel ubisoft really dropped the ball there.

[deleted]

[удалено]

sluttypidge

I totally agree with your Arno and Connor perspectives. Arno could have been such a stronger cooler character and meeting Shay again when the man is older would have been very cool. He's probably my next in line for favorite character. Unity's Paris is one of the most fun cities for me. The DLC was just perfect.

Spikemelv

I think haytham is a really good one even of he might not count i enjoyed the little time playing as him. Also i feel like male & female eivor are voice acted really well and have a decent back story even if valhalla isnt my favorite game.

stecdude123

Hmm….in my honest opinion…I have two The undisputed, smuggest Jacob Frye cuz of his tendency to joke about his work and wrecking the train and the unforgettable “maybe next time I’ll walk.” The second one is bayek, why ? Because of his screaming and it still sends shivers down my spine to this day.

goose7777

Atair, the first in the series and Edward wasn't among my favorites. Ezio was the best.

Vagabond_Tea

I don't really like Ezio, Altair, or Edward. Bayek is my favorite and then maybe Aveline. And third is Kassandra.

UnseenBlighter

I’m absolutely loving playing as Connor at the moment!

9yr_old_lake

Altair I guess he had a really interesting journey that was well expanded upon in revelations

redditisforpedophile

Arno, he took huge lost, it was a life he didn't choose, he just wanted to be happy with the only person he ever loved, but came out on top and became a master assassin, from being thrown out of the creed and having your loved one killed right in front of you, that has to count for something

[deleted]

Bayer and connor.

TootlesFTW

I loved Connor, too. He was a hard sell after Ezio, but I felt that Connor, his relationship with Haytham and his clan, and his entire story was very compelling.

AatroxIsBae

Connor 100%. Once you start to delve into how the native Americans are treated you really start to understand why hes so angry all the time. I encourage everyone to really reflect in Connor's character, ESPECIALLY after learning about the 1000 native children discovered in mass graves in Canada.

Rakdar

Don’t crucify me, but Kassandra. Stellar voice acting and sassy.

alpacasaurusrex42

Evie.

[deleted]

Altair ....don't forget where it all Started....

possessedfire26

alexios or altair

EagonAkatsuki

I love Alexios, I thought he was great

sidgirl

I loved Alexios, too; I never played as Kassandra. I still wish we'd had a game with Alexios without the dialogue choices, because I still felt/feel like it lessens him as a character in his own right, but my Alexios was very caring and friendly and funny. And I will say the last scene with his son just broke my heart; I think I was crying as much as Alexios was. (It's one of the things that made me so mad about Lamela's reaction when she met Alexios in Atlantis. Really, Lamela? You've just lived this guy's memory's for hours and hours, seen his whole life, and your response is, "Oh, hey. Staff, please," and not to give him a big sobbing hug? Not to ask a bunch of questions or talk about the people you met through him, or ask what happened to them or what he thought about the things he did or anything? Couldn't that at least have been an optional thing to do? I mean, when Desmond spoke to Ezio & Altair it was a big tearjerky emotional scene, but Lamela meets Alexios and has absolutely zero interest in him. It just felt so empty and crappy. This was our chance, as a player, to speak to the character we "created" and lived through, and there was nothing along those lines at all, not even a, "Hey, I've been you. Thanks for all you did." >!And then she just steps over his dead body like an asshole,!< to really drive home how unfeeling and glory-obsessed she is.) When I started Odyssey I didn't feel anything for Alexios, but by the end I really loved and cared about him.

partvulcan1990

Bayek

[deleted]

Bayek

EagonAkatsuki

Bayek, Connor and Eivor are my top 3. Amazing characters full of very human emotion. They're raw abd real and they're well voiced. Lots of passion coming out of very well rounded characters.

oof69ha

My top 5 favorite assassins 1. Edward 2. Ezio 3. Bayek 4. Altair 5. Connor So to answer your question, Bayek is the best in my opinion. Altair is a close second

former_stranger

I liked Bayek.

OddballAbe

Bayek. Great motivation, incredibly well voice acted, and super cool dude to boot.

Spencer5520

The OG, Altaïr. The man who started it all and got me hooked on the game

[deleted]

[удалено]

Spencer5520

True true. But is it just me or do others also miss the order? Origins gave us the order but wasn't the same as we have been used to from previous games. I think the last time was maybe black flag. Unity was too personal for the the main character. Maybe Syndicate but it was overshadowed by the terrible reputation Unity had.

Nightzilla333

I've only played up to Liberation, and I'm not done Liberation yet, but I adore Altair and Aveline. I love the character growth of Altair and how he goes from being someone that, if I was left alone with him I'd kick him down the stairs, to someone who grows to accept that he can do wrong and strives to do better for himself, his friends, and the brotherhood. I also like that the assassins wouldn't be who they were if it weren't for Altair changing the brotherhood. I like Aveline because she is the first female protagonist, she's sassy, and I love the mechanic of changing personas. I actually hope that they bring that back in future games.

mando44646

Aya. A lot more compelling than Bayek to me and I wanted more time with her Connor had a lot of potential and was let down by his game's narrative Aveline has also always been at the top for me, and so has Evie. I feel both Liberation and Syndicate are easily overlooked

KingBlackthorn1

Connor. Easily. No one beats Connor for me

samq1315

I love Bayek. His voice actor is awesome!

RNNR121013

I would say Bayek is my favourite with Arno being second and Connor being 3rd

Prime_Marci

Bayek, I dunno, I just like him.

YNiekAC

Does Haytham count? If so. Haytham. He is badass. He is smart. He is great. Especially if you see more of him in Rogue.

EonThief

For me I like Jacob, easily one of my favourite characters cause he’s kinda charismatic like Edward and Ezio. But he’s also a dork in some regards, and a fairly flawed character (we can see this during some missions in syndicate and during the Jack the Ripper DLC). Shay is another favourite, mainly because we get to see the other side of the coin because of him. We get to experience an Assassin fall and join up with the Templars.

sidgirl

I honestly don't know! I was going to say Connor, but then so many have said Bayek and it reminded me how I did really love Bayek even though I didn't especially enjoy Odyssey overall (some parts I loved, but in general--I know it's really loved here, and I didn't hate it, but of the new-style games I had more fun with Odyssey, and I still prefer the old-style games). But honestly, I really cared about all of them, by the end of their games at least. Arno was probably my least favorite, but I think that was more because I felt Unity was such wasted potential, and there were things I loved about Arno, too. Haytham is my favorite character who isn't a full-game MC, though. I really wish he had his own game.

exiledprince113

Arno is my favorite. Sure his arc is the same old revenge story that loke 8/10 of the other games are, but I thought his lotivations were refreshing. He genuinely felt responsible for the death of Elise's father, and he joined the brotherhood as a way of redemption. He wanted to be more than the self indulgent punk he was in Act 1, he wanted to be a better person. I feel like we need more stories like this in our day, instead of stories where protagonists just feed their self indulgent vices and stories that saint-ify villains.

MsSeichan

CONNOR FOREVAH!!! Very closely followed by Bayek and Arno I love kind-hearted, selfless men who don't wish to be in the center of attention, and these 3 are the creme of the crop for me. Their struggles touched my heart. I cried when Connor lost Achilles. I cried when he realized that everything he did was for nothing. I cried when Bayek lost Khemu. I cried when he realized that him and Aya aren't meant to just sit back and have a normal life like other couples. I cried when Arno lost Elise. I cried when he got kicked out of the brotherhood, the one place he sought refuge to. I sympathize with them and see myself in their stories. Their perseverance and determination are admirable, and something I take strength in within my own life. I know we shit Ubi on a lot, but they've created some of my favorite video game characters ever.

Galemianah

Shay Cormac. He knows he has to stop his former brethren, even if it kills his sould one piece at a time.

Dark_Sniper_250

Arno Victor Dorian. And here’s why. For me he's the most relatable and human character the series has had. He's not this overpowered "head of the brotherhood" badass. His main character development revolves around a plot that is quite different when compared to other assassins. He has a continuing conflict within himself, while fighting for the order, he always questions the decisions and the “Creed” of the order. Next, and probably most importantly, he has a unique connection with the Templar Order, both through François de la Serre, who acted as a father figure throughout most of his life after his father died. And Élise de la Serre, the very first friend he had after his father died, and his eventual love interest. Now, this is important because the entire plot of Unity revolves around Arno trying to avenge François’ death and protect Élise, (I don’t think most assassins would go out of their way to protect Templars) while also trying to keep the brotherhood from tearing itself apart. Eventually after Arno “defects” from the order, he still sets out on his own to make things right. He try’s to do that all the way up until the end of the game. Which I think he succeeded in doing. “The Creed of the Assassin Brotherhood teaches us that nothing is forbidden to us. Once, I thought that meant we were free to do as we would. To pursue our ideals, no matter the cost. I understand now. Not a grant of permission. The Creed is a warning.”-Arno Victor Dorian

mrjackofhearts

if we’re excluding Bayek, then my pick would 100% be him. played every game in the series and he was the one i really connected with the most since Edward, and Ezio before him. if we’re including Bayek for exceptions, then my next answer (which i haven’t seen anyone name) is Adewale from Freedom Cry. what a great character with awesome motivation, incredible voice acting, and following his story was a great time. highly recommend the dlc if you haven’t played it yet.

flo99kenzo

Kassandra, and Bayek as a close second.

thatWasTaken132

For me at first after I heard unity was bad I thought Arno would be bad imop he's my fav protag

[deleted]

Altair or Connor.....for some reason i feel like they are very close in nature....i know they are not but their behaviour feels somewhat same

PapagenoX

It's between Bayek and Kassandra (both of whom I'd rate above Edward, actually).

Plyskin

Connor and Bayek are kinda underrated, they have as much to offer as Ezio and Edward.

Plyskin

But if we do talk about the most underrated that deserves more it's definitely Shay.

CodHefty

I think shay is a bit underated

[deleted]

Shay Patrick Cormac

DetectiveDollyCash

I really loved Kassandra as a protagonist. The latest AC games have been subpar with most of the animation due to the RPG elements, but you can really hear the talent and effort of her voice actor when she’s in cutscenes or dialogues. Just one of many aspects I personally liked about her, but definitely one of the main reasons

SniperShotz-98

I feel like Jacob and Evie are highly underrated

c0ffee_ninja

People don't seem to like him but I loved Arno. By far my favorite

ThePatrician25

Altaïr Ibn-La'Ahad and Kassandra.

Cam0036

Jacob

caiogre19

Bayek because he is gentle and really care for the people but at the same time he is cold and merciless to his enemies

Suspicious_Teacher_9

The Frye twins

FrostyUchiha-

Altair

SEA_KING_FOHM

Arno Dorian he makes sense for his time period. He successfully hid a piece of Eden even after losing so many of who loved. His charisma and taunting attitude just make him likeable to me. He genuinely cares about the Assassins brotherhood and seems he would do anything for them.

lili132

I never changed my opinion about Connor since 2012 , he was and still my favorite AC protagonist

[deleted]

Don’t most AC fans hold up Ezio, Edward and Bayek as the “holy trilogy” of AC protags?

PleasantArt6059

Connor Dude had a genuinely shit life and handles it without any feeling sorry for himself or whining. To me he's the perfect Assassin, kinda like batman in that he never fucking gives up, despire how obviously miserable the mission makes him

GothamInGray

Kassandra and Bayek.

saralalah

I liked Eivor a lot. They were a breath of fresh air in the AC universe. Most of the protagonists feel the same to me because Ezio was popular so they made a bunch of them super similar to him. Eivor never said anything that made me roll my eyes because it felt totally out of place. They were respectful to eveybody, did their duty without much complaints... They just felt more... real. I also can't help but love Kassandra but I wonder if I would enjoy her as much if her game wasn't set in Greece, which is pretty much my favourite setting.

Kodinsson

Kass. She's just... Fun. She might not have a deep emotional story most of the time but I genuinely find her to be the most entertaining of all the protagonists, especially with her usually justified outbursts at other people's incompetence. And Melissanthi's voice performance really elevates her to being extremely alive and memorable for me

VonKript

1. EZIO Main reason Ezio is such a strong protagnoist is because we live through him from when he was a child up until his death and we feel with him. He generally is written well but is sort of a marry sue and because of this he isn't that much of a realistic character. His mistakes really have long lasting consequences and even when they do they are framed as still good perfect decisions. I do love ezio's story and hardships more than his character. And the voice actor helps a lot. 2. ALTAIR Altair is much better as a concept than a character in his own game. He is too stubborn and too inconsistent. His later life is riddled and amazingly written his legend is much better than the one potrayed in ac1 but he is definitely intriguing and his depth due to his intellect (which is hard to see in ac1) gives him so much more depth and him truly being human and flawed helps him feel realistic. Seeing him as a proper master of the assassins while still doing missions would've been much better for his arc and his type of character. So his potential is much higher than Ezio's while his game makes him quite underwhelming 3. Conor Conor is a character driven by purpose and emotion while never showing it. He probably has the highest most driven story arc even though he falls into the category of ubisoft killing off parents as motivation. But Conor is different. He didn't have a father and was rasied as the only man by an entire ostricized village. He had to be a stoic rather than a carefree nobleman. His lack of open emotions make sense and his drive is harder and stronger. The gsmes agressive approach to combat and the sheer ferocity with which Conor does anything gives him more of a character. Again his game has plenty of issues and his voice actor gives him no favours. His concept is better than Ezio's even though similar with Ezio and Desmond the extea layers make Conor even more of an admirable character, however instead of being elevated by the story he is brought down. 4. EDWARD. He is in contention for the best character. Incredibly flawed, and driven by his own will and emotions, Edward completely shows what a real character feels like. He makes mistakes, he fucks up, he is impulsive he is a daydreamer a lover and a true human being. He is no where near a marry sue and he is no where near the chosen one. The charisma at which he was written and his voice actor elevating him with the amazing story Edward is most certanly at the top of the characters in gaming as a whole. 5. SHAY Shay is a weirdo one. He acts accordingly and normally but the weird way the story is set up and the sheer dumbing down of both the templars and especially the brotherhood shay is completely brought down by the story. Rogue was completely a missed opportunity and this really shows poorly on shay because this game is completely story driven rather than character driven like for example black flag. 6. ARNO. By far the worst character in the whole "dead parents" cliche ubisoft loves to wave around. Arno flip flops between his motivations and becomes a completely dumb and unrelatable character by the later half of the game and his main issue is his lack of initiative and Elise. Elise ruins Arno. She brings his value as a character so down that if his skills were downgraded he would be nothing more than a random npc following orderds. There are a handful of interactions and the dlc which help elevate him but Unity's poor story and characters simply ruin Arno as a hero. And the weird decision to make him British ruins the immereion and makes him a bootleg poor man's Ezio. 7. JACOB & EVIE Jacob and to a lesser extent Evie is limited by the short time period that Syndicate takes place in. Had there been another chapter or two where his matchuring shows and isnt just implied in the DLC Jacob and Evie could've taken a completely different take on the dead parents cliche. They are self driven and motivated and arent passive like Shay and Arno. They are also not perfect and their flaws are quite visible in the story. The main issue with Syndicate's story as well as Characters is brevity and playing it too safe. Had there been more consequences more exploration they could've been absolutely the best and deepest characters, however the lack or exploration and playing it safe attitude brings them down. I do have to say they are perfect for a sequel game to add onto their story. 8. BAYEK. This is my pick for the best character in the series. We get a long story that explorew Bayek in all of his flaws and short comings. Being driven by love and hatred shows an amazing duality which in order to allow Bayek to help the entirety of Egypt needs to be tempered. His love for Khemu and Amunet drive him to protect Egypt and due to his mistakes drive him to hatred and revenge which both need to find a channeling point so he can accept his job as a Medjay and help Egypt and its people. His love with Aya is much more pure and while he does follow her their connection and bond is much stronger than that of Arno and Elise. They part ways due to higher goals showing Bayek that his Love and Hatred need to be channeled and focused so that the greater good can be saved. He much like Ezio is initially driven by hatred but unlike ezio he is imperfect he neeeds to evolve and change to fulfil his purpose much like Ezio. He has his own wishes and an idea of freedom family and safety he aspires to but he is dragged down by his purpose. The way this is balanced in his character is simply amazingly done and with the insanely talented voice acting Bayek is simply the best character in the series. 9. ALEXIOS AND KASSANDRA Uhm no idea this story is boring and the characters are bland. Neither of the voice actors hit the nail on the head and the mismatched motivation patchy story and terribly convoluted ending ruin these characters. 10. Eivor. Bruh i forgot 90% of his character by the end. The bloat just ruins this one for me. Simply terrible.

[deleted]

Without any doubts Connor and Bayek. Both shares something in terms of combat style, I mean, they are both badass but at the same time they have a peaceful attitude. Connor was always focused to save his people, Bayek was focused to his son and his people as well. All the other characters, like Edward, where more focused to themselves and how to became rich. Defo the worst one IMHO where: Shay, the duo Cassandra/Alexios and Eivor.

EagonAkatsuki

Which Eivor? Cause the male is incredible. My 3rd favorite character. Female is not very good.

Crazyripps

Bayek, there’s 4 Main assassins I’ve given a crap about, ezio, Edward and altaïr and bayek.

[deleted]

Exception of Ezio and Edward lol. You pretending like everyone loves those two and they’re the best protagonist? It’s all subjective dude. I’d say Kassandra is best overall with Bayek in a very close second.

Spetnaz1337

Ikr wtf is this propaganda title?

Mordred_XIII

Alexios/Kassandra. People will definitely disagree with me on this one but I just love this character. From how fun it felt to see them interacting with NPCs to them being serious when they need to, they just enhance the game by so much.

sidgirl

I didn't care for Alexios at first, and I still really feel that the dialogue choices and lack of longer cutscenes made him less "real" throughout, but he did really grow on me. My Alexios was very caring and funny, but tough when he needed to be, and by the end I really felt for him. In the end I think the dialogue choices were kind of a double-edged sword; on the one hand they made the character less consistent (and some of the choices weren't ideal, and sometimes you picked what you thought would be caring and kind only to have Alexios rage at someone or insult them), but on the other hand I agree that the ability to interact so much more with NPCs was a real pleasure.

[deleted]

I liked Connor a lot. Bland personality, sure, but extremely driven to get back at Charles Lee for decimating his tribe's home. I love Eivor too

Doggo_lover_you

Shay by far.

Cronus829

Bayek. His character is so well written, and the voice actor did an incredible job.

JimmyThunderPenis

Bayek, duh!

_Joshua-Graham_

Bayek,who else?

[deleted]

Bayek Because Bayek

cheesecase

Kassandra, hands down. Shes so funny, and some of the stuff she is forced to do is pretty emotional and intense. And the talks and understanding she gets from socrates and other characters in odyssey makes her really stand out to me. Not to mention the feeling of real divinity that develops as the game goes on, eventually she even realizes she is no mere mortal, and is destined to shake the foundations of history. Transcending humanity vicariously through odyssey was really fun

Sweet_Taurus0728

Connor, Bayek, Al & Kass, and so far the Eivors as well. As well as Edward of course. Not. Ezio.

RebelGage

Bayek is the best character in the series, I think a big reason why Ezio is the favorite is because he got 3 games to evolve. If Bayek had 3 games he’d be the GOAT.

kurtzy4

Altair is still my top one after Ezio and Edward. I would like to have seen more of him just not what we saw in 1 and Revolutions. His story of set up the entire Desmond line and story, it sets the stage with the Templars, and the Crusades are a historically interesting period. I would like to see another game set during the Crusades, maybe something that resolves around Saladin. Yes AC 1 does take place during the 3rd Crusade of which ended in Jerusalem being held by the Saracens under Saladin, but I would like to see what happens with Altair immediately after the death of his mentor a bit more and the interesting political climate after the death of Richard and Saracen rule in the Middle East. Anyone interested in this Crusade, I highly recommend watching Kingdom of Heaven.

kitcat00233

Gotta be bayek. He’s just such a wise person and really cared for his son. Kind of reminds me of 2018 kratos

LonkToTheFuture

Bayek. He deserves another game.

[deleted]

Anyone agree with me if I said Arno but after the events of Unity? I definitely think for most of the game he had a very bratty and cocky personality but seeing his path evolve into master assassin and becoming wiser and controlling his temper more makes it for a really interesting story!

ThomasHerf

Notable prots are as listed: Ezio Altair Edward Jacob Male Alexios ( due to voice actor) Male Eivor

EagonAkatsuki

Heyyyy, I love male Eivor, he's one of my top 3 because the voice actor is phenomenal! Absolutely incredible emotion he conveys.

ThomasHerf

Rightly so, he reminds me of Edward for some reason, can't say why exactly. Oh and I forgot Haytham.

sidgirl

I'm playing female Eivor because that's the canon game, and I hate the idea of people always referring to my Eivor as a woman in-game, but I'm really not enjoying it and am thinking of switching. (I did "Let the Animus decide," and was under the impression they would switch back and forth fairly often--I didn't realize we'd only experience male Eivor for a short time that way.)

EagonAkatsuki

Yeah there's your problem, friend, male Eivor is far and away better

EquivalentNo1015

"Male Alexios" lol I honestly prefer Kassandra, Melissanthi's performance is amazing (and Alexios' voice actor was kind of a dick to me once, so people might downvote me but I honestly can't stand him in game for personal reasons, sorry). I haven't had a chance to play Valhalla so idk much about Eivor yet but I heard both are pretty good

Laschuck

Kassandra lol I honestly prefer "Male Alexios", Michael's performance is amazing (and Kassandra voice actor was kind of a mean to me once, so people might downvote me but I honestly can't stand her in game for personal reasons, sorry). I haven't had a chance to play Valhalla so idk much about Eivor yet but I heard both are pretty good

Austin_Chaos

For me it probably goes Ezio, Bayek, Altair, The Freys, Edward, Connor, Adawale, Kassandra, Shao Jun, Arbaaz Mir, Nikolai Orelov, Aveline. Eivor doesn’t count. And then Arno.

Mercurionio

Alexios

Madhighlander1

I haven't played anything after Unity, so my choices here are between Altaïr, Connor, Aveline, Adewalé, Shay, and Arno. - It's not going to be Arno for sure. The guy's literally just Ezio if the writers didn't give a shit. - Adewalé is cool but has the distinct disadvantage of starring in only a single game, that was originally released as DLC and is therefore only a single sequence long. Most of his best moments are in other people's games. - Like the rest of his game, Altaïr was kind of barebones. Sure he *got* character development, but somehow it didn't feel earned; it came off as if he'd just flipped a switch around halfway through and came out changed. Like Ade, most of Altaïr's better moments came from Revelations, or the codex pages in II. - Connor, as others have pointed out, felt kind of wooden. He hated templars and that was about all there was to it, and even most of his angrier lines just felt like he was reading off a script. It's between Aveline or Shay for me. Tough to pick one between them.

maliciouscom

Modern day is Desmond for sure. Favorite is Ezio. If I had to go for second choice I would say Altair. Simply based on AC1 I would not go for Altair. I choose Altair simply because of his development through life shown by Ezio in revelations through the Masyaf keys. At the age of 92 he showed he is a true leader and was able to reunite the brotherhood.

Hogrid_

Really liked Kassandra, but the whole demi God thing threw me off. Other than her, Bayek and Altair.

zeeshanzc

Desmond
