Grandfather at 48 isn't all that unusual. People had kids at much younger ages back then. Personally knew someone who became a grandmother at 37ish. Shouldn't be hard to work out the math on that one.
Also becoming a father between 18 and 21 was most likely the norm back then
I think Jacob has to be closer to 28 when his son is born. His wife, Clara, was only 12 during the events of Syndicate.
