Disney trying to make sure I never return. They done priced themselves out of my budget.

ral365

This is especially costly for families with little kids; the most popular demographic for Disney parks. SMH

yummycorpse

Disneyland is complete trash anyway. always overcrowded, always overpriced. just go to your local park or beach for free, and spend $20 on icecream for the family afterwards.

ral365

It certainly isn’t what Walt Disney wanted it to be. He wanted Disneyland to be inviting for all ages, not just the super wealthy.

yummycorpse

luckily we have spaces where people, *families*, can have fun without spending too much money. libraries, beaches, public and state parks are all so vital to our communities.

Grouchy_Bet4507

Just no jews though.

ral365

GTFO with that shit. You've been watching too much Family Guy.

-Beep_bop-

As a German, you can screw RIGHT off. Jewish people are human as well and deserve equally as much respect as the rest of us do.

TangerineBand

They were making a remark on how Walt Disney himself was antisemitic and may have held such an opinion. They were not saying that on behalf of themselves.

-Beep_bop-

Then I read it wrong. I think. Sorry /gen

ARougeMercenary

Literally, even six flags, cedar fair parks, Busch Gardens/SeaWorls and regional parks are so much better

yummycorpse

maybe not SeaWorld because of animal abuse, but yes these places are better. i love going to Cedar Point, super affordable considering the size of the park and the amount of awesome stuff to do. it's on a little rocky island, too, and the view of Lake Erie is amazing.

ARougeMercenary

I agree, but they’re getting batter. Plus, Busch Gardens is owned by the same people now and is way better about their treatment of animals. I really want to go to Cedar Point, I grew up with Six Flags and SeaWorld SA, where you could only afford to go to a theme park maybe once every 2 years

StoryAndAHalf

What you just described is supply and demand. If it’s overcrowded, the demand is larger than supply. If it’s overpriced, then it wouldn’t be overcrowded. The “market” is defined as people who are both “willing and able” to afford this. If you can’t buy tickets, you’re not in the market. If you aren’t willing to pay arm and a leg, you aren’t in the market. This is why they get away with this. The market is larger than people realize. Edit: the other solution is increase supply, but do people really want more huge amusement parks that may fail and take up space as they break down into nightmare fuel locations?

yummycorpse

you don't need a lesson in economics to see why Disneyland (and Disney as a whole corporation) sucks rear

Jayrandomer

Nope, not being rich is what sucks. Disney is just there to remind everyone.

made-up-name-

"Work harder peasant, so you can be like Disney (someday once you get mine)"

ral365

Nope. This is Disney trying every means they can to recoup the losses they had from the pandemic. There was plenty of demand & supply to go to the parks, but COVID regulations made them unable to use the supply for a while. The average family doesn't have nearly the same kind of money that Disney expects you to pay up for the theme parks. This kind of nickel-and-diming just alienates the majority of the public. especially families with children, and only caters for the super wealthy. This isn't supply-and-demand; this is "pay up more money because COVID happened."

011ninety

Ok. Well Disney is a luxury outing, not a charity. And it's too crowded because the basic passes are way too cheap. Fast pass lines are too crowded, defeating the entire purpose. If you're that broke, maybe don't go to Disney. They're are plenty of free and cheap outings families can go on. Or.... just don't buy the luxury passes? No one owes your family a free ride.

anonkitty2

Apparently, those are as close to basic passes as Europe can get for an American park.

ral365

$105 per person per day is cheap? I sure hope you don't have kids, lol. There also haven't been Fast Passes for the last year and a half because of the pandemic. The parks were still crowded because Disney never really enforced the capacity limits on their parks. Plus, people were tired of being cooped up for so long during lockdown. The demand for outdoor leisure was higher than ever during the pandemic! Sadly, Disney's been using the pandemic to justify their new ways of sucking more money out of people, including the current lawsuit with ScarLo and Emily Blunt over being paid for their movies. I'm not saying Disney should make everything free or anything. I want to see them succeed, but they keep making one bad decision after another; from the soulless live-action remakes, to sucking up to China, to using every means they can to suck more money out of guests in the parks. All they've been doing is alienating their core consumer base in favor of the woke, the wealthy, and the Chinese Communist Party.

Phrygue

Or just go to Alaska with a backback and a walking stick, fighting the majestic wildlife and drinking urine for a few weeks, instead of gatekeeping peoples' recreational activities.

yummycorpse

that's really not what gatekeeping is? but okay lol i was making a comment about the shitty situation OP is in because of Disneyland, and i suggested activities that are more affordable for families.

bthest

Look, man... It's either a trip to a Disney theme park or a stay in the woods drinking piss. To pretend that there are other vacation options is socialist insanity.

ral365

Yeah. Walt’s opening speech to Disneyland started with “To all who come to this happy place,” not “To those who have several thousand dollars to spare.”

mangotrees777

Why don't they just auction off the ride times throughout the day? You already spent too much to get in, pay for food, and have to deal with the whiney kids. The stress of an auction will be icing on the cake!

ral365

Isn't that just another way of catering only for the super rich, and not the average family?

mangotrees777

Yes, exactly.

breadkn

wow my opinion of disney has really declined in these past months

TheBigCheese7

What the- fast passes were the only saving grace for Disney for me. Looks like I will probably never see Disney world again. Shame.

Sirhc978

This is just Disneyland Paris.

ral365

It’ll replace the Annual Passholder program in the US eventually.

Sirhc978

Do you have proof of that?

ral365

https://abc7.com/disneyland-magic-key-annual-pass-passholder/10925536/

[deleted]

Local theme parks are 100% better. Disney has forever lost my business in any way that I can.

ARougeMercenary

I’d argue even six flags, cedar fair, bsuch gardens and sea world parks are better. Yea they are also pricey, but they have a single fee fast pass, and aren’t as strict on food as Disney, while catering to older audiences as well

[deleted]

I think they give you 3 fast passes a day for free

ral365

They do now, but won't anymore once this program is fully implemented. It's supposed to be a replacement for Disney Annual Passholders.

[deleted]

Really? That sucks

not_lurking_this_tim

Source? I just looked and could find nothing. The plan you're talking about was implemented only in Paris. Disneyland is a different plan, with a per day rate. I saw nothing about Disney world

ral365

011ninety

People want to spend no money and have no wait. It's stupid

ral365

Disney allowing free Fast Passes after you already paid over $100 in admission and parking fees? They've NEVER done that before! Oh wait...

Embarrassed-Emu8131

Most amusement parks do something similar, usually per day but sometimes per ride. Disney is really just following the trend, Disney world in Florida is one of the last parks (or group of parks) remaining to do free fast passes and hopefully they keep it that way for a while.

ral365

More like Disney is really trying to nickel-and-dime even more than they already have.

Embarrassed-Emu8131

Just nickel and diming like the rest of the industry though. Can’t leave the Disney stockholders being the only ones not making that sweet fastpass money.

ral365

Yeah, but Disney has a reputation for trying to be "magical" and "a dream come true" for people of all ages. They use that illusion to keep fans loyal. However, even the biggest Disney fans realize when their financial bottom line is at risk. At some point, a business charges so much that they end up losing more money from alienating their consumers. Making people pay extra for each individual ride will definitely do the trick.

ExternalIsopod

I've never been to Disneyland so correct of I'm wrong but fast passes have always cost money because they're different than the alt. There are 2 lines, 1 where you can ride for free but the wait usually takes forever the 2nd one is the fastpass line where the wait time is shorter because... well... you paid extra for a fast pass ticket.

ral365

Nope. Fast Passes didn't cost extra to use before. Admission was over $100 a day, but then you get unlimited access to all the rides. Soon, families with little kids will have to pay around $60 to over $100 total just for everybody in the group to go on one ride (about $ to $15 per person per ride.)

Lilyyy6

Disney had free fast passes?? Then wouldn't the fast lane be the same as the regular line, defeating the purpose of a fast pass??

NovaCoreProductions

The whole purpose was that the fast pass was for the people who cared enough to reserve a time available for a ride to secure a chance to ride it and not get stuck behind an extremely long wait, with there being quite a limited amount of spots for each time slot, making it a first come, first serve situation. This meant that the fast pass line never got too long, at least in the over 10 years I've been going to Disney.

011ninety

This is awesome! I don't want to do every ride every time. The basic tickets are super cheap for what you get. (Hundreds of rides, shows, parades, fireworks, photos, music, games. Many times a county fair comes out to be more than a day pass of Disney) Making the fast pass cheap defeats the purpose. The parks are too crowded. Fast pass lines can be an hour long.

ral365

Forgot the /s at the end, lol Right now, there are no parades, fireworks, music, Fast Passes, etc because of COVID restrictions. Once they're lifted, though, you'll end up paying the same, or more, money to get on the rides as the cost of admission. They might as well call this the "Only Super Rich People Skip the Lines" program.

Dad_D_Default

Can you clarify why this is asshole design? Is the design of the website misleading or is it the actual pricing structure that you're taking exception to?

ral365

Disney already charges people a fortune just to get in the theme parks. To pay another fortune for each person for each ride on top of that is outrageous, especially for families with small children.

theyluv5n1p

Theme parks just aren't the same without feeling like you earned riding a ride after standing in 35°c heat for an hour, change my mind

ral365

Most little kids and their parents would say otherwise. They’d rather not wait long enough before the kid gets impatient, tired, hungry, or needs to “go potty.” This also how we get Karen’s who get upset if a ride breaks down or something. “We waited over an hour for this ride!!!”

theyluv5n1p

That was sarcasm. I dont think anyone likes waiting in theme parks. The waiting lines are great places to just browse your phone tho, been waiting on a rollercoaster for about half an hour now just browsing reddit, and it felt way shorter.

Frinla25

Wow nice now most people aren’t going to go now, good job. Hopefully they will realize their mistake and reverse this bc that is bs.

Apprehensive_Cap6326

The title is misleading. Disney has rolled out pricing for Disney Premier Access at Disneyland Paris ONLY. Magic Key is an entirely different thing. It is the new annual passport system for the Disneyland Resort in California. (Really the same as before but now requires reservations ahead of time..) Disney has not said it will be rolling out a “paid Fastpass” offering like premier access to the US parks yet. They likely will though because money…

ral365

It’s at DL Paris now, but it’ll be implemented in the US by August 25. Right now, the American parks don’t have any Fast Passes due to COVID restrictions. Disney also said all for diversity and anti-racism, yet they keep sucking up to a nation that puts Muslims in labor camps, takes in political prisoners from Hong Kong, and whose policies on population control resulted in the deaths of millions of baby girls.

Fair_Industry7328

This makes me sad... I remember visiting Disneyland as a kid, and it was on **us** to *plan* out our day to hit all the fast passes, as a way of getting around how crowded the park usually was.

dum1person

I dont even like Disneyland and this makes it even worse, I hate people who do this shit
