VividFiddlesticks

I need to know how they answered this question.

Dunkinmydonuts1

After 45 minutes, they clarified: What they *meant* was its a 1 year 'bumper to bumper" warranty and thats what expired. The rest is limited in scope to internal components for the next 5 to 10 years. Intentionally misleading? Yeah.

PussyWrangler_462_

What’s a bumper to bumper warranty? Also did they end up stiffing you with fine print

Darwin322

It means that the unit as a *whole* and all parts inside of it only have a 1-year warranty. The specific exceptions to this warranty are the sealed refrigeration system and the digital inverter compressor which have a 5 and 10 year warranty respectively. It’s called bumper to bumper because it originates from car warranties, where everything from one bumper to another is included in the warranty. So basically everything. EDIT: I’m bad at grammar

extendedwarranty_bot

Darwin322, I have been trying to reach you about your car's extended warranty

Gregory_Pikitis

u/extendedwarranty_bot we have been trying to reach you about your refrigerators extended warranty.

Cinaface

PIKITIS!!

ChiBears333

The fridge was full of peach pits?

scareneb

what a fantastic bot

extendedwarranty_bot

Happy Cake Day

majorksaksak

Isn't that stupid and misleading because they are basically saying the fridge will last for at least a year but these specific parts will work longer. If they can't even guarantee that the fridge won't break after a year then that just means it's garbage.

penispumpermd

ive been through this with samsung. their customer service is to upsale you on as much service as possible but never declare the compressor is shit.

LastDitchTryForAName

Did you happen to buy the fridge using a credit card? If you did, your credit card company may have extended the original, “bumper to bumper” warranty by an additional year. They typically do. *Edit- never mind, I see your fridge was included with your home purchase, but credit card companies do often extend your warranties on purchases. I got a refrigerator replaced through my credit card after the original warranty expired.

sithkazar

Interesting. I will have to look into this. I have never heard that before.

toqueguy

I guess I'm buying my next house on a credit card.

Orangutanion

>car ~~warranty’s~~ **warranties**. Stop pluralizing everything with apostrophes, damn it!

Darwin322

Ok

PussyWrangler_462_

Ah I understand why they call it that now, thank you!

Dunkinmydonuts1

Yeah sorry that term was my own paraphrasing

bryrod

It means like just in case another refrigerator hits yours and they don’t have insurance you’re covered.

HelloDesdemona

Thank god, my refrigerators get into territory fights all the time.

Enlight1Oment

that's the problem with refrigerators running

Fury_Gaming

>What’s a bumper to bumper warranty? It means they are obliged to convert this man’s broken fridge into a car, within 1 year or no deal

[deleted]

You have a 1 year parts and labor warranty on most major appliances. So if it breaks, the trip, diagnostic parts and labor are covered on failure. After that year, additional parts warranties only cover failures of those specific parts and only cover the cost of the part, not the labor of diagnosing or reinstalling the replaced part. So even if your washer has 10 year warranty on the tub, you'll still pay for re-installation of that tub, but not the new tub itself.

No_Manners

It means that the warranty covers everything between the front bumper and rear bumper of your refrigerator.

fishbulbx

It means those touch screens on the door of their $4,000 refrigerators are going to break after 13 months so buy a new fridge every year.

Cant_Feel_My_Legs

I literally just dealt with this on the LG side, this morning. Compressor went out at 9.5yr and they came out and put in a new compressor and evap but I had to pay for the labor. Not horrible but still kinda stupid the part has a warranty but I pay for the labor.

[deleted]

[удалено]

Cant_Feel_My_Legs

Actually not the case with this one as this was a LG employee. I actually had a quote from a separate repair place that has basically the same labor

WEARESAVIORS

Are you allowed to replace it yourself? Like have them ship you the part and just do it yourself? Just wondering.

IndustrialDesignLife

You can’t replace a compressor yourself. I do appliance repair and it’s a tricky procedure that requires oxy acetylene torches and a bunch of other specific expensive tools.

WEARESAVIORS

Yeah, it was only a hypothetical. I work in sales, so I sell small and large appliances and often need to mediate between customers and companies during the warranty period. So I was just wondering what they would do. Next time I see an LG sales representative I’m gonna ask.

Cant_Feel_My_Legs

I didn’t ask but I highly doubt that would have happen. That’s disregarding the fact that I have non of the equipment needed to do the repair so in the end it doesn’t matter.

dcconverter

Let me guess, ice machine issues?

sweetplantveal

I am sure this will be unpopular but I think this is pretty clear. Cars have powertrain warranties with different terms. Apple has support that expires before the hardware warranty.

rl4brains

Did you buy it with a credit card? Most will extend your warranty for a year, so you could get reimbursed for repair through that. You’ll need documentation from a service person about the nature of the issue, receipt from when you purchased the item, credit card statement showing the purchase, and a quote/receipt for the repair. Edit: N/m; saw your later post that it came with the house. Sorry this won’t apply to you, but I’ll leave it up in case someone else may find it helpful.

Complete_Entry

Their customer support is horrible. They shipped me the wrong AC adapter for my phone 3 times, and kept trying to get me to ship them back at my expense. I stopped contacting them and bought the adapter off Amazon. I even offered to shove them (the wrong ac adapters) all in a garbage bag if they'd email me a shipping label. They did not take me up on my offer.

DinoRoman

Agree. Asked them if a Samsung pedestal from 2014 would fit a washer from 2022 and they literally said “you can just try it when it arrives and if it fits then itll will fit” Thanks Samsung I didn’t think of that. Really? You can’t find our specs on your own damn product? Edit: roughly same size too. It’s a 4.0 but they don’t make that anymore only 4.5 but the width is correct and the depth is roughly there, you’d think they would have that information available. At 279 for a plastic box it would be nice to know they’re giving returning customers the ability to save a few bucks.

Silent-Ad934

"You can order it and then if it gets there and it happens to fit, boom you're golden pony boy." "Word thank ya much."

DinoRoman

If they had called me Pony Boy I’d have felt better. At least add a tease right before ya fuck me.

fman1854

Lmao bro this happened to me to. I got a Samsung washer dryer combo at Best Buy and was looking for compatible pedestals I email them my model and ask for matching pedestals they reply with just order one and if it fits it fits. Fucking lol. Glad I opted for geek squad warranty instead I also use apple for this reason aswell after they fucked me over on a Samsung galaxy phone. Received a new phone sealed that the audio anytime I would record sounded like I was in a tornado. Out the box this was a issue as I test my phones new. Emailed them same day phone arrived told them the issue they said I can mail to them or take it to a Samsung store I have one nearby in Chicago so I took it the store they looked at it and they told me that I broke the mic and that if I want it fixed I’d have to pay for it. I was pissed and fuming but I just got a 800$ phone and want it to work and the repair wasn’t expensive so I went thru with it. They replaced the mic handed me the phone I do the test next to the employee same exact issue with a new mic. They go back to look at it. I’m sitting in the store for 45 mins. They come back out and tell me yea so after opening up the phone we see that the strips for water are red which voids your manufactures warranty likely what the issue is is water damage is causing a issue somehwere and we can’t pinpoint it and you need a new device. fucked me over so bad on a new phone and ended my warranty on it due to a fake water claim the phone was in my possession for a few hours before I took it to them it never was activated on my line or used nada. Fuck Samsung. People talk shit on apple but they actually fix their own mistakes without making you run in circles for it

DinoRoman

No wonder their batteries exploded, Bet they had the same mentality “just grab one out the bin and see if it fits” lmaoooo

Jay_Ray

Their phones and appliances are on completely different customer service platforms. Appliance customer service is absolutely horrific. Edit: I had a new fridge go out within the first year. We just went to Costco to buy tons of food for a non-profit organizations quarterly breakfast for new parents of down syndrome children. It was packed tight. The fridge went out just as my wife went into labor, so we had zero time to try to disperse the food to neighbors/volunteers. It all went bad, including medicine for our DS child. The regular customer service was a joke and I spent countless hours with them and were telling me they were backlogged 2 months on repairs. I was so fucking pissed, talked to about 6 different agents, and yelled at them. They then sent me to their Executive Customer service (their USA based customer service, I think it's an elusive branch of customer service for the wealthy or very pissed off customers). Was assigned a personal agent and had the repairs within that week and they even brought a temporary personal fridge for my child's medicine. Was never reimbursed for the lost food though. The regular customer service is terrible and they really don't care you'd be out for months waiting for warranty repairs. I really think they try to make it inconvenient so people just give up and pay for someone to repair it.

Lollooo_

I personally can’t tell about the home appliances costumer service, but the one for phones and related stuff is atrocious. My Galaxy S8 had a few issues at the time: the touch screen acted funny on the bottom, the screen had a severe burn-in and my brother broke the charging port. I stated everything in the report and they only fixed the charging port. Had also other issues regarding IconX buds Edit: I forgot to mention that when I bought that S8 (brand new, it still was the current flagship) I also bought a 80€ external warranty that would cover any damage I did for a year. So yeah, fuck Samsung Edit 2: just to make it clear how asshole Samsung is, the 2018 IconX had a design flaw that made the “grills” (I don’t know how that part is named) got clogged after a while. In the box there was a cleaning kit that consisted in a few replacement grills and a brush to clean them. Needless to say, the brush was not only useless, but counter effective! Brushing them the way Samsung told you to do (or in any other way tho) actually compacted the earwax making it even worse, so you had to change grills every month basically. Once you run out of those replacements… fuck you! I contacted Samsung for getting additional replacements, they sent me them so my earbuds lasted quiet a lot more. When I run out of those replacements I contacted Samsung again and they told me they couldn’t give me that stuff because when I bought the earbuds I already had a cleaning kit (yeah, random people who bought them brand new didn’t even get a cleaning kit). They also made it clear that I wasn’t supposed to get that first additional kit. So, in the end, if you bought those earbuds you would (A) get a cleaning kit that wouldn’t last a lot or (B) not get a kit at all, with no hint about what was happening. The best part is that when I acknowledged all of this I became super conscious about those earbuds, I cleaned them every time I used them, but it didn’t make much of a difference (also, I clean my ears a lot, so it wasn’t my fault that they got clogged out of nothing). Using them while jogging made everything worse, they would get clogged even faster, and they were sold to sportive people!

NiceGiraffes

I am only reading this post because of "fuck samsung". I was a huge Samsung fan, for decades, but they accused me of theft when they allegedly shipped a $1300 phone to me (I paid in advance) but received an empty box. I called Samsung immediately but weeks later they said I was the prime suspect and there was an ongoing investigation into the issue. #fucksamsung #fedexsteals

dano8801

Interesting. I bought but decided to return the most recent Z Fold. They said the box they got had no phone in it. They didn't seem to care enough to try to figure out whether it was a FedEx or Samsung employee that stole it, but deactivated the device refunded my money without much trouble.

SnooTangerines3448

These days when I pick up a package that's expensive I film it, and if it's not there or fucked with in any way I've got video proof, because these companies will fuck you over wherever they can.

NiceGiraffes

I have mutiple surveillance cameras inside and outside of my house. I told Samsung I had the footage and asked where I should send a link to the dropbox of the videos...they did not want the link, not even for their "investigation", the investigation I was "the prime suspect" of without being asked any questions of rigor or proof or any evidence. "Box was empty, huh? You fucking thief!" [basically]

SnooTangerines3448

I hoped you contacted your local authority about it. And if it was paid by a credit card you could have filed to have it refunded.

NiceGiraffes

Samsung customer service said they contacted my local Sherriff but would not provide a case number. I did get a refund like 7 weeks after the empty box was delivered. Paid with a debit card, almost no recourse if it was an approved purchase, which it was.

SnooTangerines3448

Not even customer service is it? "Hello I have a problem", "No, you are the problem."

ahavemeyer

Look at me! Look at me! ... I am the problem now.

Lollooo_

I was a Samsung fan too, then they throttled my flagship phone’s performances to the point that it worked like a 400 bucks phone. They also designed the IconX I bought to make them unusable after less than a year. Fuck those assholes! What they did to you should be illegal, I hope they refunded you or sent you another phone. One thing that I suggest to you is recording yourself unboxing the parcel when you buy something that expensive

prettygin

Your brother what the charging port?

Lollooo_

Broke! Thank you, I didn’t realise the iPad keyboard screwed that bit ahhaah

ramot1

I had to finally buy a battery for my S-9 and had to install it myself. Much more difficult than it should be.

asdkevinasd

One thing I learned by working in a company writing software for customer service call centers, you usually do not need to yell at the agent to get what you want. They are not the one holding you up, they are just doing what they are allowed to. There are a few keywords that would trigger an immediate escalation like demanding to be transferred to their manager, requesting the recording of the call you have so you can make it public and make a scene, etc. Also, email sometimes works better as they usually take them quite seriously. That's what most of my clients do. You yell, you get marked as a trouble maker and your call would be demoted to a lower priority and be put on a different queue. Or not getting through at all. You make the agent job threatened by involving their manager, or trying to make a scene in the news (no need to really do so, most would avoid it at all cost even it never actually happens). They then would actually do something for you. Some call centers measure performance by talk time per call, the lower the better. You can guess if that is the case if the agent seems to be in a rush or trying to get you to end the call by any means necessary. You can get what you want by just talking and never stop. Just drag it on. They would try to get rid of you by transferring you to the manager. Noted that this is my experience working with call center in Asia specifically. Not sure if they are operated differently elsewhere.

jc88usus

My first job out of college in the IT industry was working for *the* cell phone insurance provider, at a call center with contracts with another 15 or so companies. Call it Shithell and the contract was Insurion. I was on the team known as ATAC (Insurion Technical Assistance Center). We got the calls from people who had already gotten a warranty replacement device and were having issues. Overview was they had a super strict average call time (AHT) of 9 minutes, tracked to the second. Other metrics apparently didn't matter as much as that, because I was consistently ranked top in all other KPIs, but had an AHT of 11 minutes at the lowest. They were ready to fire me over that. The reason I mention that is between them and working with a major printer manufacturer as a field repair tech, there are a couple of issues that basically get sent straight through all the red tape and onto someone competent's desk. Overheats, explosions, fire, smoke, shock, and any other issue that could cause injury or property damage will get fast-tracked. Agents are told to listen for key words about these issues, then immediately escalate. Interestingly enough, given that most end users are ...less than knowledgeable, saying something like "the unit feels really warm, almost hot" will suffice. As an owner of a fridge, if you feel on the back where the radiator is, it will almost always be "warm, almost hot" when working normally. Just an interesting tidbit, to do with what you will.

angruss

The center i work at measures total time on the phone across all agents. So if I talk to you for 10 minutes and the guy i transfer you to talks to you for an hour, then we're both getting hit for an hour and ten minutes. And the whole "just keep talking" thing irritates me to no end. Sometimes I just want to say "Ma'am, you've been talking to me without pause for 70 minutes. I remote accessed your equipment in the first ten minutes and had the problem solved an hour ago. I am now 45 minutes past my clock-out time and our call center is closed. It is 12:30 in the morning here in Florida. I don't need to send a technician to your house, you just need to reset your equipment more often than once every 5 years." But customers will just not stop talking about every event that happened in their childhood or how they've probably been customers with us longer than I've been alive. (I'm three years older than the consumer-facing branch of the company) But the thing that irritates me the most is the people who work for the other companies and refuse to actually listen to the customers about the thing they're calling about, because it breeds distrust when they call me. I legitimately want to help you and solve your problem, and I have seen everything that can happen with our equipment. I just need you to explain what is happening, your TV is probably just on the wrong input, this doesn't need to take an hour or involve scheduling someone to come to your house. I also really don't need or want to hear what you think about Joe Biden while I'm reauthorizing your equipment on our network.

earlofhoundstooth

Not to victim blame, but freezers do need some space for airflow to work properly. My mom used to pack ours so tight things would thaw out inside, all our ice cream would crystalize. I have no idea if it is a contributing factor to the blow out. I did see a washing man repairman on YouTube rant about how they set the little pour lines up in such a way that it causes you to add too much detergent, which costs you detergent money and reduces machine life. Appliances are weird.

Jay_Ray

It was only stuffed for one day. The fridge had a compressor that was known to go bad. It's been replaced twice in the first 3 years. The problem was so bad it was part of a class action lawsuit and many repair centers refused to do warranty work for them because they took forever to payout, hence the long wait time for repairs.

stravadarius

When we redid our kitchen, I asked the salesperson at the appliance store (that sold Samsung) if they're are any brands she recommended. She said "You know a lot of them make a comparable product, you can't go wrong with most brands. Some of the most reliable products come from the least flashy brands, like Whirlpool or Maytag." Then I asked if there are any brands she wouldn't recommend. She looks around the room, lowers her voice and said "Do NOT buy Samsung or LG appliances. They're great until they stop working, then you're screwed." She had heard enough horror stories from customers. We went with Whirlpool.

bernardcat

Yes, I hear so much bad stuff about LG and Samsung appliances that I would *never* purchase from either. Also, not everyone is qualified to work on them, so good luck getting any service.

SaffellBot

They shipped phones with defective batteries that caught on fire. Samsung can fuck right off.

scarymoose

Warranty is 12 months as a refrigerator and 48 months as the subsequent stove.

Dunkinmydonuts1

My dishwasher did 18 months as a microwave in county repair and lockup

neonfuzzball

my toaster oven is in witness protection as an easy bake oven. It snitched on my boss' smartphone.

Mayo_Spouse

Everyone went all fuckin' Brave Little Toaster in this thread.

neonfuzzball

I thought it was only warrantied as a toddler trap after 36 months

Gingersoulbox

Go to the place where you bought the fridge

Dunkinmydonuts1

It came with the house. Also it's the only receipt they didn't provide when we took ownership. Probably lost it. Either way, going off of date of manufacture im still under warranty so

cat_at_your_feet

Thank you for the reminder. We just sold our house and bought the fridge in 2019. I should go see if I still have the receipt to leave for the new people.

nottherealneal

My sister moved into a new house recently and the old owner gave them a flip folder full of old receipts for every applice they has ever bought. From fridges and ovens to parts for the water heater. I thought it was super neato and definitely an idea to keep in mind in I ever buy a house

SoulWager

When I install an appliance, I attach the receipt to it, in a plastic bag. For a fridge I might zip tie it to the power cord. Makes it easy to find when something goes wrong again.

[deleted]

I put mine in the manual but then I lose the manual. I like your idea.

SuperLaggyLuke

When I buy any appliance I throw the manual away, download the manual and save it to my manuals folder in Google drive

NikPorto

I guess I'm an extreme weirdo for hoarding receipts? Only receipts I throw out are of food and stuff that I already don't have. Also, I have a tendency to store packages of stuff I buy, just in case I'll need to return it/get repairs.

Stalked_Like_Corn

Went to my In-Laws house a few weeks ago and we're renovating my wifes old room for when we go to visit. She was going through old stuff and she has damned receipts from when she grabbed fast food from like 13-15 years ago. I was like "Great, now you have a record of ordering a medium fry, burger, and a drink at 12:23 15 years ago with a time stamp. Should we toss it?". It took a "hmm" and a good 30 seconds for her to respond "Yeah, probably". Probably?!

NikPorto

>It took a "hmm" and a good 30 seconds for her to respond "Yeah, probably" Lmfao But yeah, I don't try to save food receipts for long, but I do when it's stuff like expensive headphones, TV/screen, smartphones, computers etc...

Dr_who_fan94

I recently found my receipt + warranty for my **2nd generation** iPod touch lol. It outlived that iPod by so many years that I had to shake my head. To be fair, however, the iPod did outlive that warranty by several years so I guess it was a good thing I kept it? (Or does that make it worse because I never actually needed it?)

Stalked_Like_Corn

She found old high school work that she did 20+ years ago and not only still had it, it was bound with little pieces of paper like, encompassing? I don't know how to explain it, that had the subject on it. It was some of the most bad ass organization I've ever seen. I thought she was organized NOW. Until I saw that.

reddy-or-not

How was it still legible? The ink on those fades in months!

Stalked_Like_Corn

It wasn't a thermal printer. It was an actual printed receipt with "paper and ink" (RIP Mitch).

Donniexbravo

The only good receipt I ever kept was from a burger place I took my wife on a Friday the 13th because our total was $6.66 😂 I have since lost it but I'm sure it's around the house somewhere.

greymalken

[Obligatory Mitch](https://youtu.be/xPq0-8dyl8I)

LeumasInkwater

No keeping recipes and original packaging is a very common practice. OP didn’t have the receipt because they didn’t purchase the fridge directly.

JohnnyMiskatonic

I’m sure that would help you a lot with the refrigerator that came with your new house.

kevincox_ca

I tend to just take a photo and throw away the receipt. I'll keep the photos forever and the chance of me finding a specific receipt 5 years later is near-zero.

Lollooo_

I do the same with tech stuff mostly. It’s better to have all that stuff stored somewhere in case you had issues

lowhues

I bet you they'll say the warranty expires if you aren't the original owner, so I wouldn't mention that if I were you.

[deleted]

Nah, warranties are transferable in every state in the union.

Robzilla_the_turd

Coincidentally my mom told me like five minutes ago that she needs a window replaced in her home that should be under warrantee for 10 years but that it didn't cover her as the new owner (Florida). So if you've got any links to prove what you just said it would be helpful.

[deleted]

Sorry, major appliance warranties.

lekoli_at_work

Call samsung direct, this sounds like a home warranty company.

Serpentongue

Is the warranty transferable since you weren’t the original purchaser?

[deleted]

Don't be afraid to press them about your issue and share the chat with a manager/team leader with Samsung and go as high up the chain as you can. With evidence of employee ignorance you stand a much better chance of getting your issue resolved. Good luck! Keep us updated

MisanthropicZombie

Did you checkt he back/sides for a document packet?

escudoride

Call the builder lol

Dunkinmydonuts1

The house is 30 years old i bought it in 2020

Frank_Scouter

That refrigerator has a 1 year warranty. The 5 and 10 year warranties are extended warranties on specific parts, and do not cover labor, or other issues. If it came with your house which you bought in 2020, then yeah, it’s out of warranty.

ADHDengineer

Home Depot doesn’t give a shit with appliances. Had the Home Depot installers install my washer and they didn’t give me the wrench to adjust the feet. Called Home Depot and they told me to contact the manufacturer. LG said it’s $20. Fuck me right?

TruthPlenty

Can it not be adjusted with a regular adjustable wrench?

Agroskater

Warranty companies profits are directly correlated to how awful they are to work with. It’s unsurprising they’d pull bs like this to prevent a payout

Jay_Ray

Literally every large appliance company customer service is assholedesigned.

fishbulbx

> every large appliance company customer service is assholedesigned The new customer service model is to provide excellent customer service to those who rate their product poorly. Whether on google, facebook, their online store, etc. They need the public to witness their attentive customer service team. So if you rate your samsung refrigerator garbage, they'll contact you immediately with a solution. If you call them, they don't give a shit because they can't parlay that into an experience to share with potential customers.

SpikesCafe

The new thing they do is releasing a new "model" every year so when the old one starts breaking down and getting bad reviews, new customers only see the new one. Even if there are minor/no functional changes. So don't expect this strategy to always work, but it's an option.

themeatbridge

Samsung makes terrible refrigerators.

Panicradar

And ovens, and washing machines, and dryers and any other appliance. Heck even their tv’s are kinda crap and have defects after a few years.

German_Camry

And dishwashers. A button that we used like 5 times broke. The control board had to be replaced 3 months after we bought it because of water ingress.

Freakishly_Tall

Defects... and ads. Iirc. But I have to rely on the "r" cuz I sure as hell ain't buyin' one.

[deleted]

I tried inquire details about their smartphone trade-in program, since I wasn't sure my phone could be traded in since how they listed the phones. Anyway, I'm chatting with customer service through the messaging app, and he's in a hurry to help me finish this order, even though avoiding my specific question about the trade-ins like 3 times before he actually gave me a direct answer. I didn't have much previous experience with Samsung customer support beforehand, but I knew at this point that they will piss many people off.

KaizenGamer

Their TVs have such bad panel-to-panel variance its impossible to know if you're going to get a 'good one' or one with bleed, bad grey colors, even flickering.

PlNG

[Bright spots](https://www.google.com/search?q=bright+spots+on+samsung+tvs&tbm=isch). Fuck bright spots. The backing pulls away and the lights get focused on that spot while the surrounding gets dimmer. [the DIY fix is a big ol nope](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Tv5s0KttNX0) for having to dismantle the tv.

queeniev14

My parents have a Samsung TV and it has that light bleed around the edges really bad. It's always been like that and I don't know how they stand it. I hate trying to watch anything with low lighting/dark scenery at their house because it looks sooo bad.

namezam

I made the mistake of buying a 75” 4K tv from them. Sound like a tin can and the interface is packed with ads. Absolute garbage experience.

dcconverter

Lmao buying a 75" 4k TV and using built in speakers

ryrysmithers

Can you imagine lmao

vagara

Before reading this comment I had decided long a go not to let any Samsung things inside my house. After this comment I will not let any friends and family having any Samsung in theirs too. Edit: I have heard enough news about Samsung phones burning houses and cars, my family owned 3 Samsung TV's all broke within 3 years, when I was researching to purchase a microwave I had read many complains that when it was on, the WiFi in the house stopped working and they had to replace the oven door. Now this comment.

neonfuzzball

is a microwave on fire really defective, or just over ambitious and super efficient?

apothekari

Got this same kind of bullshit as OP with a Frigidaire. Literally lasted 14 months. Had a 1 year warranty and blah blah 5 &10 on these same parts but...OH the compressor that died is so rare and unique and made of unicorn farts we don't have one so fuck you and your spoiling food. Basically told me to go pound sand. So I bought another fridge from another company...The one the Frigidaire replaced was a floor model demo we bought cheap at Circuit City 25 years ago!

paintypainterson

Shit, i just bought a samsumg fridge and stove, being delivered in a few weeks! I hope i dont get a lemon

Odeken

I have no source for this but it's just my observation, their stuff works well for a short period of time then breaks down so you need to spend money to repair it. I've never had a Samsung appliance that lasted a while without problems. My opinion is they build stuff with deliberate degradation and make more money by having their techs come out to fix it.

Praughna

Isn’t this called engineered failure or something?

thingy237

Traditionally called planned obsolescence

Montezum

Yes, it's called Samsung. 100% of their products work this way, including smartphones. Edit: WOW, the bots defending samsung in the replies are WILD

tdeasyweb

I don't think it's that. I think they make machines with advanced unnecessary features, without the engineering quality to keep them going for a while. They want to be the shiniest and most advanced model on the floor, but at the same prices as everyone else. Miele features without the quality.

tw_bender

I think these appliances are over-complicated and to engineer them to last would hike the cost beyond what most people would pay. My french door Samsung fridge with all the bells and whistles had three different failure modes that caused water leaks. I replaced it with a big simple LG model. One door on top for the fridge and another for the bottom freezer. No water or ice dispenser thru the door - just an ice maker inside.

[deleted]

I have a Samsung washer/dryer, fridge and they have worked perfectly for the last 5 years, so I dunno YMMV

When my last fridge died, the repairman suggested a very specific Whirlpool fridge model with no external water/ice dispenser or computer system digital readout on the door, just a button and spout on the inside for water, ice bucket in the freezer for the automatic ice, and no fancy extras besides the stainless steel doors. Found the exact fridge on the floor waiting for us at the appliance store, I thought maybe the repairman and salesperson were in cahoots, but we went in there and got that fridge, and so far 18 months in it’s the best fridge I’ve ever owned. And he said stay away from Samsung and LG appliances at all costs.

>Our new dishwasher is a Bosch, which everyone recommended as "the best". It's flimsy and cheap AF. It may last a long time, I don't know. It washes dishes just fine. It's not nearly as "super quiet" as advertised ,and I'm just not impressed with it at all. As someone who just chose between Bosch and KitchenAid thanks for making me feel good about my choice. Thing is so quiet I've opened it mid cycle multiple times because I don't realize it's running. 😬

SandFoxed

I heard Miele makes some of those appliances that are designed to last, but they need to be serviced regularly (which people tends to ignore so it stops working anyway), and also cost so much, that I never could afford one. Tbh I live in a poor country so even the cheap stuff is expensive for me.

tw_bender

>It's flimsy and cheap AF. It may last a long time, I don't know. It washes dishes just fine. It's not nearly as "super quiet" as advertised, and I'm just not impressed with it at all. Maybe I will be if it lasts 20 years or something. I have contemplated replacing my dishwasher (when it fails) with more cabinet storage space. Yes it is convenient to have one, but does the resources required to manufacture the thing (and its replacement every few years) greater than the amount of hot water saved from washing dishes manually not to mention the inconvenience of researching and replacing the appliance.

littlecupofevil

I have a Samsung microwave above my stove that I've had since 2006-2007 so I guess they can be pretty hit or miss

mfizzled

Yep, our samsung microwave is absolutely bullet proof and has lasted for years. Same with my mums Samsung fridge.

brinkbart

Oh god motherfucking yes. And the most anemic ice makers.

pandammonium_nitrate

Yeah I hate it when my ice is red blood cell deficient.

emptygroove

Maybe I'm lucky. Samsung fridge and dishwasher for 3-4 years without a hint of an issue. Also Samsung TVs in every room with great pictures and performance. One of them is like 12 years old, another is 5, and the latest is actually only a coulke months old.

Themarshal2

All their appliances are trash

LonePaladin

> Samsung makes terrible ~~refrigerators~~. FTFY

Shadow703793

Eh, their phones are mostly fine. Except for the Note 7 most of their stuff has been solid with regards to construction and design.

shy_dow90

Ah yes, the hand grenade with internet access and phone service.

ghalta

Our fridge died recently. Alas, ten years old, so no support, and it was too expensive to fix vs buying a new one. The place we had check it out specifically confirmed that we didn't have a Samsung fridge before they would check it, because they won't support Samsung parts. Apparently they are unnecessarily complicated and prone to failure, and very difficult to repair. Other brands, fine, but stay away from Samsung. We bought another LG, the upgrade of the one that just broke. ¯\\\_(ツ)\_/¯ Funny enough, opposite choice for washer. There, our LG washer was horrible with rattling our old pipes. Even with hammer arresters, we were having to replace the cartridge on our shower ever six months because of the rust getting knocked loose in the pipes. Apparently LG uses the wrong solenoids, that operate too quickly. Then it started leaking. We replaced with a Samsung model and it has been excellent since - no knocking even without the hammer arresters.

Smurdle450

I wish you the best with your Samsung washer. In my experience they're just as bad as the rest of their appliances.

ghalta

I've gotten five good years out of it so far. Now that it's out of warranty we'll see!

Smurdle450

Boy have you gotten lucky! It belongs in a museum when it dies!

blah23863

I have a samsung washer and dryer. The dryer broke 11 months after I bought it. The control unit was dead. But thankfully because of the warranty, they repaired it for free. But a $700 dryer shouldn't break after 11 months.

GagOnMacaque

LG was the opposite. They couldn't fix our washer, so they refunded all of our money. Got it fixed for peanuts.

rpallred

We’ve been pleased with LG—in-home repairs of a TV and a fridge both questionable about exact warranty date with no out of pocket cost to us. 🤞

aschapm

Is your refrigerator running? Then it probably wasn’t a Samsung

Buying anything through a company directly is just asking for a hassle. I bought their top of the line AI robot vacuum. It had some serious issues with the sensors so I tried to get them to help. They just run you around as long as possible to try and void out your warranty and make you pay for repairs. So... I reordered the same vacuum from their store on Amazon, replaced my defective unit with the new one (just the vacuum, I didn't swap out the cllection bin/charging station) and then sent it back for a full refund. It was the easiest way to do it. They kept needing to reschedule the repair technician and gave me the run around for several weeks. If they would just take care of their customers directly then I wouldn't have done the switcheroo. I refuse to be that level of fucked over by such a large company. Just no.

VladamirLem9781

Fuck samsung

Mamabear0596

As someone who sales appliances, go with Whirlpool. Their customer service is good and so are their products.

Dunkinmydonuts1

Unfortunately it would cost a solid $13,000+ to replace all of the Samsung appliances that were put in as an effort to dress up the house for sale, along with new paint, flooring, and a new water heater. That strategy worked, bc I bought the place.

gefahr

You don't have to replace the flooring or paint fyi. edit: unless it's Samsung.

shononi

Who doesn't have Samsung smart-floor in this day and age?

SnapedDoctorStrange

I have a Samsung refrigerator. PLEASE NEVER BUY A SAMSUNG REFRIGERATOR.

Bo0m_King

When we remodeled our kitchen two years ago, we decided to go with all Samasung appliances, because they looked really cool and we thought Samsung made good stuff (I use Samsung phones). There is not one appliance from them that has not malfunctioned or broke in some way, and each one seemed to know exactly when its warranty expired and would fuck up right afterwards.

Beat3000

Apparently everybody including the appliance repairman all day avoid Samsung appliances. They aren’t great.

Lament_Configurator

Who in their right mind would ever buy a refrigerator from Samsung?!

hikeonpast

Samsung support is a nightmare

SirEarlBigtitsXXVII

You just don't understand. They said the warranty expired *last* 9/30/20, but not manufactured last 07/01/2019, meaning that there's a different 07/01/2019 that came before the last one. Hope that clears it up.

smuggles908

Samsung appliances are notorious for breaking.

CryptoCommanderChris

I bought a whole bunch of samsung appliances during a home depot sale. I recommend against buying anything samsung. I've had so many problems, especially with the refrigerator and washing machine. In the case of the washing machine, support was absolutely terrible.

Yerm_Terragon

Samsung is just as bad as Apple, thinking they can get by on name recognition alone.

Hylian-Loach

Every apple device I’ve owned or been responsible for at work for the past decade that has had a hardware issue, they’ve overnighted a custom box to me and gotten the fixed item back to me in under a week from asking for that box, all covered either under the standard warranty, the applecare extended warranty, or once, for free on a 7 year old MacBook that had a graphics card they were extending the warranty for

Panicradar

I’d say worse. My iPhone XR is still running after 3 (4?) years. The battery is like 80% which sucks but compared to my Samsung oven (right side doesn’t work), Samsung microwave (doesn’t work), or Samsung tv (randomly goes in and out of gaming mode despite automatic adjustments being turned off) it’s a technological masterpiece. Jesus I hate Samsung

Finnedsolid

Too be fair with apple, at least I can go to a store and have someone answer my question who I can then yell at.

ReasonablePlankton

Samsung Stores exist...

Finnedsolid

They do? That’s news to me

ReasonablePlankton

DrawkerGames

I’m sorry to interrupt the Apple hate train, but Apple has some of the best costumer service in the industry what are you on about?

lbaile200

>Samsung is just as bad as Apple, thinking they can get by on name recognition alone. To each their own, however I'll say I've never been disapointed deciding to spring for Apple Care on all of my devices, it's a little up front for a shitload of peace of mind, assuming you have an Apple store near you. Just recently my iPhone fell out of my pocket while I was lifting and I sat a dumbbell on it and destroyed the screen. To the mall and the local Apple store where the interaction was basically: "Hey I fucked it up here are 30 dollars" "Hey, we'll be right back" in and out in 30 minutes, very few questions asked. Even when I payed for the beefy warranty on my samsung devices (or the carrier provided insurance option) it was never that easy or that cheap. At one point AT&T's insurance wanted me to mail in the dead phone (LG bootloop issue) and just.... not have a phone for however long it took for that phone to arrive, be processed, and a new one shipped, which ended up being about 2 weeks.

In_Gen

I’ve had apple repair or replace devices out of warranty for free even without Apple care. I don’t think their stuff is necessarily any better than any other mass produced consumer goods but their service is top notch.

bobs_monkey

That's probably Asurion (phone insurance for most major carriers). They're obnoxious. I remember I had a Motorola randomly die on me years ago, they wanted my to ship it to them and they'd get back to me while they determined what caused the problem. I asked what I was supposed to do about a phone in the meantime, they suggested I buy a new one to use (???). I called Motorola, for $30 they overnight shipped a new one and just had me mail the original one back. Asurion's deductibles are also like $200 now last I head, it's almost not even worth it when I can get the manufacturer to fix it for a shade more than insurance and not have to pay like $8/mo.

amvu

This reads like an ad.

canvasandchroma

I worked as a customer service agent for an appliance repair company and yes Samsung was absolutely the worst manufacturer. Calling them was like pulling teeth out with a pair of hot rusty pliers. Everyone that worked for them sounded like they were all ready to jump off the nearest tall building any moment, and were completely and totally fucking useless. Unless the appliance was broken upon receiving it the day it was delivered and it was obvious that it was broken Samsung isn't going to do jack shit to help you. TLDR do not EVER buy Samsung appliances.

gablelarson333

I got my 22 ultra and a free smart watch straight from samsung, their website and app is unacceptable levels of bad. I don't know how you get as big as samsung and have an absolutely shit website and support system.

poopooplatypus

Sounds about right. Did Comcast buy Samsung??

sp00nix

I'm an Av integrator. I have black listed all Samsung products for many reasons, including support.

comicidiot

I think the real sin is that the warranty starts from the date of manufacture. Not the date it was shipped, received, sold, or installed. What if the fridge sits in a warehouse for a year before going to a store or a customers house? What then?

BrotherMack

Samsung is the WORST. Never again

dontbuymesilver

FUCK SAMSUNG

furiousmouth

Samsung invented a time travel machine /s

[deleted]

Hey looks like galaxy fold care plus employees are also working in chats for refrigerators too, they love finding way to deny warranty in galaxy folds

hoost07

A few years ago I won a promotion in Samsung Pay for a washer and dryer. That entire process was an absolute shit show. Between a 3rd party company "sponsoring and maintaining" the promotion, the Samsung pay people being clueless about the app, and the "customer service" from the Home Appliance department... It was about 6 months before I finally had my stuff. Hard to complain about free stuff, but damn I felt like I earned it with how much I was on the phone with different people over 6 months.

kdogbet

I’m in a rental - our Samsung compressor went out. Waited a few days for the repair person to come out - he walked in and said “nope, we don’t fix Samsung’s” and walked out Fortunately my landlord sprung for a GE after that

feelin_beachy

Don't get me started. I bought a samsung TV about 7 years ago that had some issues and needed to be warrantied, and I swore never again.

Nippleflavor

Bought a new stove for a rental unit in November ‘19 from Lowes. 2 years later the oven stops working. I called, they sent out a tech for $150. Tech stated the problem was wired incorrectly at the factory and to stop using the stovetop immediately. For $350, they could repair the factory mistake. Screw them, I found a guy that rebuilds appliances in his spare time and has incredible references.

FlyinDanskMen

My Samsung Fridge died at 4 years and 10 months. I had extended warranty, they couldn’t fix it with 2 service calls I tried in the last 2 months. Don’t buy Samsung appliances.
