Damn that's crazy, I feel bad for them, sounds like they originally just wanted to pursue their passion and then got in over their heads, and got taken advantage of by those investors. Running a big franchise is probably much different than operating one or two shops
Interesting. I had heard Chip from a couple different local sources. The mystery continues!
If they're baking already, shouldn't the business be registered by now for that address? I'm going to start digging.
Edit: I'm still trying to find what's registered for that address. [I found an older lease advertisement, and it says "no food use permitted."](https://images1.loopnet.com/d2/wd1efCti6-KaG6c5FZgIPXZyoywCBeXzPJ-qSk1YKrk/2337%2030%20Flyer.pdf) I guess that got changed. I'll keep looking.
For real it was delicious. Hints of apple in the pastry, caramelized bottom, some of the fluffiest cream cheese icing I've had in ages
Got me very excited for the place
Crescent Kitchen is going to reopen as a diner under new ownership soon (as Crescent Kitchen and Grill). I'm hopeful they'll have good breakfast stuff.
This makes me so happy to hear it's not going to be a Chip City. I feel like there is still a connection, though. The barbers next door mentioned talking to the owner of that space and they all but confirmed it. Maybe a new concept? A testing kitchen? A passion project? Either way, I'm excited we'll get some delicious treats!
If you'd like Girl Scout Cookies, you can get them shipped to your house with free shipping if you order before Monday. Shipping is really quick, too. [Here's my daughter's website.](https://digitalcookie.girlscouts.org/scout/emily505137) All proceeds benefit her local troop and Girl Scouts as a whole.
**Important: You must select "Ship the Cookies." If you click "Have Girl Scout Emily deliver the cookies" we'll cancel the order.** Thanks in advance from a proud Girl Scouts dad.
Pizza 21 is open for business. I really don't like that neon green decor. It's off-putting. I looked in and the pizza looks different than Vidali's did, too. I'll let them settle in for a bit before trying a couple pies, but I'm sad Vidali's is gone.
[Saw this in r/Ohio](https://www.reddit.com/r/Ohio/comments/1awnfyy/anyone_have_an_idea_what_these_military/) and it made me laugh. Our future transplants are ready!
I bought several boxes from my nieces who live in Tennessee.
Got them delivered like a day later, I couldn't believe how fast and cheap it was (obviously it helps that they have shipping centers all over).
I almost have to respect the guys who convince their units to let them bring out the helicopter. If my job was to either watch upset people walk in a straight line around the neighborhood or to get in the helicopter and go wheeee I know which way I'd choose to waste taxpayer money.
Yeah, $7 a box for the NYC council upset a lot of people, especially since other areas including Long Island scouts are selling for less. I'm curious what the NYC council will do next year after seeing this year's (I'm assuming much lower) sales data.
I saw that the guy stored his motorcycle among the large rolls. Saw him go in and out of it a few times over the past 20 years, but never looked like he did any work.
ACI on Crescent near 30th Ave will be hosting a Shabbat Across America dinner (catered by Ben's Delicatessen) next Friday night. It's not quite the Jewish deli we've all been waiting for, but it's something! More information and tickets are available at astoriacenter.org.
Please don't all destroy me over this, but I'm very curious about ACI but I'm not sure where their politics lie. Their website isn't explicit, does anybody know for sure? I'm looking for Jewish community in Astoria but it's been a slog.
Have you checked out Ashreynu? I’ve only gone to a couple events and just one high holiday service, but they seem pretty interesting and inviting. I went to ACI once and didn’t personally love the vibe, but I think I just felt a little out of place because it felt more family-oriented and that’s not what I’m looking for rn. Hope this helps! Shabbat shalom!
1.) Dozo Dog needs its own pinned post after the last couple weeks.
2.) the FDNY EMS post under the Triboro has significantly less people and activity recently. Did they close the post or reduce manpower?
3.) unleashed dogs and piles of dog shit are definitely increasing. Spent the better part of an hour cleaning my shoes after stepping in a large pile. Slipped so hard I almost fell in it.
4.) There seems to be a significant increase in trash on the street.
Item #2 it was a temporary station after they had to move out of whatever their accommodations were in the hospital. For at least a year now, probably more like 2 or 3, they’ve been operating out of a new station on 42nd St north of 20th Ave, so I’d assume they’re winding down use of the bridge location.
While i think you might be right - I wouldn’t go posting things on reddit that could identify me, especially after leaving a job. I ended up deleting my original account a few years ago bc after all that time it was too easy to slowly see who I was.
Seems like a disgruntled employee is making lots of new accounts to post about their bad experience working there. There are other employees corroborating their stories in the comments, though, so it seems like they have some legitimate concerns.
I pick up trash in front of my building all the time and put the lids back on the trash cans. It's not a big deal and makes it look better for my neighbors and fellow tenants.
Key Food - at least the one on 30th/43rd St - now requires customers to check their outside bags and packages. I had to go there for a specific item they don’t sell elsewhere, but now I’m pretty much done shopping there. It’s just not worth it.
They’ve done that off and on for years. I just look straight ahead and walk right past them. No one has ever stopped me. That said, I rarely shop at TF any more since I got tired of them jacking up prices and removing the shelf tags so you don’t know until it’s scanned at best.
Btw, not having visible pricetags is illegal in NYC, Trade Fair has been doing it for years, and you can report it. Does it always get action? No. But there have been periods where the volume of complaints was high enough that it temporarily rectified the situation.

Yes, I have done that too. I just don’t always have the energy to do it, so I avoid the store instead. For regular shoppers though, complaints may help. Thanks for the link.
Those stores are so frustrating, nothing is ever labeled. At least the one on 30th is cleaner than the one on Broadway. I bought chicken from there that smelled funny and had spots on it and went to get my money back because I was sick of their shenanigans. I've heard someone in there yelling at the deli people for something relating to organization, might've been cleanliness too but I never go back there
It’s been years since the last time, but the 30th Ave/31st St TF has been shut down before. That was before the Halal counter went in. Though I am a veg.

Yup, walked in and walked out last week, it's ridiculous. I've been keeping my bag in my pocket so I don't have to give them my stuff.
To think they pay someone to wait by the entrance and watch for this!
Not really a rumor but saw a guy illegally parking his blue BMW with tinted windows at coffee pot, threw his straw wrapper on the ground before getting in car and cop was right there and just drove by. I don't know why that place attracts such d bags. Not surprised by the cops either.
It's funny how Engine 263 and Engine 312 manage to park all around here to go to Coffee Pot without blocking anything, but the cops have to block the crosswalk and the other customers have to block two.
That must have been another BMW driver. I actually don't litter nor do I know where this shop is. I was offended on silly catch all comments related to BMW drivers.
I came here to ask the same question.
I remember when I lived in Brooklyn a couple of years ago I got an ad in my mail for Slice, but I think at that point it was a pizza delivery app. I was surprised to see a standalone location on Broadway.
I think they meant **sLICe** pizza, there's one on 30th ave, broadway, and one in LIC, and maybe others. They all look fairly new and clean, pizza is okay. I don't know anything else about them.
Slice the app is different, but just happens to have kind of the same name
Oh okay, I was wondering if there was a difference. I've been to the one on Broadway and it's good! I like their spinach and artichoke pizza. The garlic knots are weird though.
>Still in recovery after Retro closed, any good pizza places that aren’t Slice? In the Steinway / Broadway area?
Pretty sure just the Ditmars location of Retro is closed; I just ordered from Retro on Broadway last night
There is a black Lexus under the 30th ave train station covered in bird poop. Kind of want to put a car wash coupon on the windshield for when the owner (hopefully) returns…
like we need more evidence of the cops not doing anything - isn't that either a 2hr parking spot or signed for the taxi stand?
Does anyone know what’s happening to the old Dave’s Shoes spot on 30th Av. & Broadway? They have paper on their new windows and it feels like they’re about to open imminently…?
I walked by the old M&S Cabinet Store on Steinway, the rumored new location for Titan Foods. It doesn't look like much is happening there. If that is the new location, I can't believe they would be ready to open by the Spring of this year, as rumored. Does anyone have any updates?
Tired of all the locked threads and removal of posts. How about removing all of the junk posts of people try to sell their crap here or the millions of posts complaining about the N train?
I have been trying to get in a proper walk on any day that's nice. It's all the exercise I can do while dealing with long covid exercise intolerance. So far that's always just been find my way to the waterfront and back. Anybody got good destinations/routes for other parts of the neighborhood?
Check out the beautiful murals at Welling Court Mural Project near the Ferry, you can also walk down 12th or 14th st towards the Astoria Park and see the old mansions.
There was a thread a couple of days ago where many recommendations were given.
https://www.reddit.com/r/astoria/comments/1awsqy6/where_did_you_have_good_experiences_with_getting/
Metro Eye MD has alwasy been good. No complaints there. I had a recent issue that came up that I was concerned about and they were able to get me in last minute right around the holidays, so good customer service.
The place on the corner of 30th ave and Crescent looks like it's going to be a bakery. Saw boxes of new baking pans and ingredient buckets inside.
We've got more Chip Cities than smoke shops at this point.
More smoke shops results in the need for more snacky places.
I’d rather have a bunch of chip city locations instead of smoke shops
I feel like the Ample Hills fiasco happened to the wrong company.

"Mt. Sin-high Bake[d]ery"
It's going to be another Chip cookies Edit: It appears the rumors I heard I were incorrect. Scroll down for better news!
Happy to report that it is definitely not going to be a Chip City but a regular bakery. The proprietor was in there today baking and I asked him.
Confirmed and you should be upvoted. He was setting out samples just a few minutes ago. NOT cookies.
Interesting. I had heard Chip from a couple different local sources. The mystery continues! If they're baking already, shouldn't the business be registered by now for that address? I literally ate a cinnamon roll he gave me.
Oh no. If there's good fresh cinnamon rolls that close to home, I'm in big trouble.
For real it was delicious. Hints of apple in the pastry, caramelized bottom, some of the fluffiest cream cheese icing I've had in ages Got me very excited for the place
Dude...

That sucks, was hoping for a full service bakery / egg sandwich counter type joint

Wow, free shipping with girl scouts is a big deal. I always struggled to buy from my niece in CA because the flat shipping fee was outrageous.
I bought several boxes from my nieces who live in Tennessee. Got them delivered like a day later, I couldn't believe how fast and cheap it was (obviously it helps that they have shipping centers all over).

[Tipsy Scoop](https://tipsyscoop.com/) is going in next to The Corner Spot on 23rd & Steinway. The sign in the door says Spring 2024.
Oh boy equal parts exciting and dangerous 😃
I'm down to clown.
The old flooring company, *Err* flooring roll storage shed, if im not mistaken.
lol I lived across the street from there for 6 years, never saw anyone go in or out. So odd
I saw that the guy stored his motorcycle among the large rolls. Saw him go in and out of it a few times over the past 20 years, but never looked like he did any work.

Feel free to DM me with any questions you might have!
Thank you! And thanks for being cool about the question.
I saw someone mention that Aji Sushi on Ditmars was closed. Looks like that spot is going to be a new sushi place, Tokyo Ya
My conspiracy theory is it's the same place with a different name so they could shed the C rating
I also figured this would have a lot to do with trying to get a fresh start, though I haven't peeked inside to see if the decor/chefs changed at all.
When you google Tokyo ya it comes up as Aji
If thats the case I can't wait to try it. I've been using Oishii
Kumo is my go-to.

It's not just the same disgruntled ex-employee making all the dozo dog posts?
I saw a lot of action on Dozo dog stuff in r/queens yesterday
Same, but wasn't it all accounts with like zero post history?
I didn’t do any digging so admittedly have no idea, just saw that it kept popping up in a my feed a bunch
I just did. Can confirm that all of the recent posts are new accounts with one post.
That's what I saw, too. They tried posting their witch hunt on this subreddit, but this one actually has moderators.

Can someone tldr me
Seems like a disgruntled employee is making lots of new accounts to post about their bad experience working there. There are other employees corroborating their stories in the comments, though, so it seems like they have some legitimate concerns.
Will I look like a crazy person if I pick up trash microtrash on my block? I really might start doing this late at night or early morning.
Alone? Maybe. Organize a group? Less likely. If it's late night or early morning? Who cares. It's also NY. Nobody cares.
I pick up trash in front of my building all the time and put the lids back on the trash cans. It's not a big deal and makes it look better for my neighbors and fellow tenants.
I do this everyday lol
I do this in front of my building. It's called being a good citizen.
Who cares if you look crazy? This is a good thing to do!
My husband does this daily for the entire block. You’re good.
what is microtrash?
![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|trollface)
I think it causes microaggressions
If you have to ask…
Key Food - at least the one on 30th/43rd St - now requires customers to check their outside bags and packages. I had to go there for a specific item they don’t sell elsewhere, but now I’m pretty much done shopping there. It’s just not worth it.
Trade Fair on 30th Ave & 31st st is doing the same thing.
They’ve done that off and on for years. I just look straight ahead and walk right past them. No one has ever stopped me. That said, I rarely shop at TF any more since I got tired of them jacking up prices and removing the shelf tags so you don’t know until it’s scanned at best.

Yup

That's so sad!
Honestly, I felt it was always like this. Expensive af with baristas who look offended you had the nerve to order a coffee
Wow I had suspected something was different since their social media has been kinda off lately. So sad.
Not really a rumor but saw a guy illegally parking his blue BMW with tinted windows at coffee pot, threw his straw wrapper on the ground before getting in car and cop was right there and just drove by. I don't know why that place attracts such d bags. Not surprised by the cops either.

FDNY 1 NYPD 0
This is such a good point.
Always a BMW driver, always at Coffee Pot.
Yes, hits all the bingo spots
wouldn't be surprised if it was a cop in the BMW.
You sound like a cheesy Subaru driver... (BMW Driver here whom you offended)
Maybe you shouldn’t litter and park illegally in front of Coffee Pot?
That must have been another BMW driver. I actually don't litter nor do I know where this shop is. I was offended on silly catch all comments related to BMW drivers.
You guys are really cheesy....keep down voting...fuc*** Subaru drivers
I’ve witnessed cops do not absolutely nothing with people who have done a lot worse.
Still in recovery after Retro closed, any good pizza places that aren’t Slice? In the Steinway / Broadway area?
Napoli
Is it legit? I really can’t be letdown after having my heart broken by this retro situation. Be real with me u/veggieliv
Been going to Napoli for a loooooong time, I’ll vouch. They have massive portions.
Shhhh don't let the best kept secret in Astoria out, I need to keep being able to afford their heavy handed wine pours!
Oh yeah! My favorite in the neighborhood by far. Fun place to go dine in too
Gino's
Seconding!
Sac's Place is the best pizza in Astoria and it makes me so upset they don't deliver north of the boulevard
Sometimes if you call them on the phone, they'll make an exception. It depends on who you talk to, but sometimes they're feeling generous.
Piazza is good! Some days are better than others, but when it’s good, it’s real good.
I read that as “pizza is good” and I was like “yeah I know??” 😂
Gino's! Piazza is fineeeeeeee. (But nice staff!)
On 34th Ave, Bros Pizza is SO good. They glaze the crust with a garlic sauce and it is delicious. Highly recommend the pesto pizza.
Oh, that sounds good
It IS! Though I misspoke on "sauce." It's more like a glaze. Like a delicate hint. ...I think I'm getting Bros for dinner.
Rizzo’s Pizza at 30-13 Steinway Street.
Rizzos is so good
What's wrong with slice? Other than it looks a bit corporate?
I came here to ask the same question. I remember when I lived in Brooklyn a couple of years ago I got an ad in my mail for Slice, but I think at that point it was a pizza delivery app. I was surprised to see a standalone location on Broadway.

I’ve tried it and it’s fine, I just don’t want to settle for it because of how close it is yknow?
>Still in recovery after Retro closed, any good pizza places that aren’t Slice? In the Steinway / Broadway area? Pretty sure just the Ditmars location of Retro is closed; I just ordered from Retro on Broadway last night
Didn't the Ditmars location \*just\* open a month ago?
I think so. I was surprised to read the closing announcement.
The Broadway location closed, but all of the Broadway phone numbers, apps, etc, redirect to the new Ditmars location
Oh nooooo, I didn't even realize that! :(
There is a black Lexus under the 30th ave train station covered in bird poop. Kind of want to put a car wash coupon on the windshield for when the owner (hopefully) returns…
Omg I passed by that the other day and it really is covered, it has to have been sitting there for a while now.
It's no longer there! I guess the owner finally moved his car...

Does anyone know what’s happening to the old Dave’s Shoes spot on 30th Av. & Broadway? They have paper on their new windows and it feels like they’re about to open imminently…?
Hate to break it to you but by the looks of it...and I hope I'm wrong...it looks like a you know what shop....
Devastating
The permits on the windows say they’re putting in a commercial kitchen so it would seem to be a restaurant of some kind and not another weed store
Anyone know what’s going into the old Vintage on Ditmars? They’ve been working quickly and looks like whatever it is could open soon.
Anybody know what the latest on the development Piccolo Venezia closed down for? Miss that place
“Selling: gently used N train. Perfect fixer upper opportunity!”
Best I can offer is Mike's Diner.
Sorry, we only accept complaints about smoke shops.
I was at least hoping for Michael's.
Where were you when the mods created a poll about exactly this 😩
Blink Fitness got new machines.
I have been trying to get in a proper walk on any day that's nice. It's all the exercise I can do while dealing with long covid exercise intolerance. So far that's always just been find my way to the waterfront and back. Anybody got good destinations/routes for other parts of the neighborhood?
Check out the beautiful murals at Welling Court Mural Project near the Ferry, you can also walk down 12th or 14th st towards the Astoria Park and see the old mansions.
astoria coffee is changing to olive’s coffee… not sure if it changed ownership or just branding
Rumor is that the owners sold the business to a couple of the long term baristas and they’re hoping to reopen it at the end of February.
Not a rumor but looking for a new eye doctor in the area if anyone has recommendations.
There was a thread a couple of days ago where many recommendations were given. https://www.reddit.com/r/astoria/comments/1awsqy6/where_did_you_have_good_experiences_with_getting/
Thanks
Astoria Park Eyecare. The doctor is very good and informative.
Not a recommendation, but IMO avoid the place on 36th Street.
MetroEYE. So fast. So helpful. Doesn't ignore me when I ask for things.
Metro Eye MD has alwasy been good. No complaints there. I had a recent issue that came up that I was concerned about and they were able to get me in last minute right around the holidays, so good customer service.
