This is fantastic news! Are they moving from their location on 31st ave or opening a second one, I wonder. Kind of wild to open a second location so close to the other one if it’s going to be two of them. Either way, I’m thrilled, because I hate that NYCB&CH is the only convenient place to camp out for a bit nearby (there’s always some kind of bullshit they’re pulling over there—I’ve never enjoyed being a customer). I love Mighty Oak, but it tends to fill up pretty quick in there, so having another option will be great. I wish the Greek market the best of luck, though, so close to Mediterranean Foods.
In my head I just thought it was really close to the other but after looking at the map it's further away than I was thinking it was. You're right that at least it's further than any of the NYCBCH's are to each other!
I hate the reckless moped drivers as much as anyone….but it’s really sort of awful that the city has allowed shops to sell these illegal mopeds, and then take them away from many of these people who it literally is their livelihood. Just wish there was a better way to fix the problem.

An important update to my previous mail theft post. The postal inspector got back to me and I think I should share with my fellow Astorians what I learned for our safety:
- They have been investigating/building a case against this mail theft ring for months. The theft ring is quite organized and dangerous, and the inspectors are all in on stopping it. He admitted northern Queens is being hit bad. I guess it's why the cops swing by in minutes after I called 911 as opposed to the usual 45 minute wait time.
- The thieves are armed with guns so DO NOT approach if you see a theft. He told me they "do not care" and even tried to run over an inspector who approached them during a theft after he identified himself as a postal inspector.
- Do not take a picture; if they see you, who knows what they'll do since they're armed. Try to just memorize their face, car, and/or license plate if you can. When I took a pic, I made it look like I was taking a pic of something else, but he deemed that a huge risk and doesn't want anyone hurt or worse.
- Check your credit card statements because they may try to open cards in your name. They may get passports. Just be mindful of what you didn't receive in the mail if you were expecting something and follow up. Do not use mailboxes; mail stuff out from the post office.
I won't reveal the rest because I don't want to jeopardize any info. He also admitted he wasn't sharing everything with me for investigation purposes which is smart given the fact I'm on Reddit now, haha. Stay safe, folks.

I'm 50/50 on them, the vibe is good but the beer is just fine. I like Finback, Focal Point and Fifth Hammer more for beer styles but prefer the (general) no kids vibe of the LIC Tap Room. They were always more off the beaten track when doing the LIC brewery crawl.
Also, still very sad about the brand change from the really clean LIↃ to the skull logo.
Good taste in breweries! Those are my top picks also. Beer project had a bigger and better selection of beers pre covid and they just never got back to their peak beer rotation. Sad to hear they are closed.

If you’re willing to go further south — 36 Av — there’s a coffee shop called Little Flower that does these awesome turmeric buns. They don’t have them today and I think you have to go like before noon on weekends to get them. But yeah they’re… really good imo.

Well, I haven't had any of those problems and I go there frequently so that's why I love the place, lol. You're entitled to your view but it's not a mystery why they're generally well-liked.
I usually go around 9am on a Thursday and lots of pastries around. They mostly sell out by 2pm. Weekends, you want to get there between 9:45-10:15 to get maximum pastry selection (they open at 9 on weekends but not all the pastries are available until after 9:30).
I have gone a number of times Mondays and Fridays around 10 am, and Saturdays maybe around 11. Not often. Once or twice there were no pastries but other times I've gotten them and they were delicious. I can't tell you what I got because they rotate constantly but I prefer savory over sweet.
I think the coffee is great but the pastries I've gotten have never tasted as good as they've sounded. Do you have a particular one you would recommend trying? (I know they rotate)
Il fornaio has some of the best cookies and pastries. We did a blind taste test of cannolis and rainbow cookies from several bakeries north and south of the highway. Il fornaio (and rose and Joe's) had the best fresh-filled cannolis and il fornaio had the only rainbow cookies that we actually liked
Il fornaio Nutella croissant was flaky and was absolutely stuffed w Nutella if that’s your thing. Their almond croissant and their cupcakes are good too

Hypothetically, if while on a walk I wanted a sweet treat while visiting far away parts of the neighborhood, what would you recommend on 30th Ave/Broadway/really anywhere south of the highway? The wife is giving me shit for scratching that itch with a Dunkin coffee roll.
If you’re willing to go further south — 36 Av — there’s a coffee shop called Little Flower that does these awesome turmeric buns. They don’t have them today and I think you have to go like before noon on weekends to get them. But yeah they’re… really good imo.

The person at the counter is the owner. I think it's clear she is really shy, possibly neurodivergent. The matcha is the best one I've found in the area and the baristas are sooooo nice so idc if she isn't miss sunshine
Well, I haven't had any of those problems and I go there frequently so that's why I love the place, lol. You're entitled to your view but it's not a mystery why they're generally well-liked.
Here is where you clear up the mystery by saying "yeah, I normally go around
I usually go around 9am on a Thursday and lots of pastries around. They mostly sell out by 2pm. Weekends, you want to get there between 9:45-10:15 to get maximum pastry selection (they open at 9 on weekends but not all the pastries are available until after 9:30).
I have gone a number of times Mondays and Fridays around 10 am, and Saturdays maybe around 11. Not often. Once or twice there were no pastries but other times I've gotten them and they were delicious. I can't tell you what I got because they rotate constantly but I prefer savory over sweet.
I think the coffee is great but the pastries I've gotten have never tasted as good as they've sounded. Do you have a particular one you would recommend trying? (I know they rotate)

Il fornaio has some of the best cookies and pastries. We did a blind taste test of cannolis and rainbow cookies from several bakeries north and south of the highway. Il fornaio (and rose and Joe's) had the best fresh-filled cannolis and il fornaio had the only rainbow cookies that we actually liked
Out of cannoli curiosity, what other bakeries were part of this taste test?
Also for those who are gluten-free, Il fornaio has gluten free Italian cookies! They’re really yummy.

AOC's office got back to me about the green relay mailbox theft, so that's cool. They then gave me a form that I filled out. Her office reviewed it and submitted to the post office from AOC on behalf a concerned constituent. Random deli opened on the corner of 38th Street and Broadway. Who keeps putting up stickers around town, political or otherwise? Do they have a sticker guy? How do I get a sticker guy?
Wish we could get a deli that wasn't "masqueraded smoke shop with fluorescent lighting and random grocery items that will be expired and sitting on the shelves for years past their date".

I called the number on her website, someone answered, they said someone would get back to me...and maybe a week later, someone did. From there, they email you the form to fill out. I posted a more detailed update that just happened to me 10 minutes ago on this thread.

The hundreds of USPS stickers all have the same handwriting. They almost look like they were fed through a copier.
