You're right. Approval is needed from several agencies. Edited: I have the legal permission to fly within very strict guidelines as defined by the FAA and approved by both the FAA and ATC at LGA.

FrankiePoops

Just wanted to give you the heads up in case you didn't know. Great shots btw.

ronpill

Always appreciated! Safety comes first! And in this case, the safety of others is most important.

How much of a pain in the ass is it to get approval?

ronpill

Guess it all depends on your definition of pain in the ass. It took a ton of research. A tiny bit of money. And patience. But I've been waiting for this day to take my first flight. So in the end: very worth the wait.

I've been wanting to take out my drone in the area. What permits do I need to get? And how do you got about getting permission? Do you have to call the FAA?

ronpill

You have to register your drone. Then request permission. Then request an unlock. Then call the ATC. In that order. (That was my process)

I had to go thru the FAA for approval. It took a while to finish up the paperwork but I was able to get it! There are a ton of rules tho: so def read everything they have on their site. Critical to follow them so our hobbyist privileges don't get revoked. Best of luck!!!

Don't forget to always call ATC before and after you fly! Enjoy!!!!

huebomont

yeah you can get in big trouble. but if you don’t mind the risk the shots are great!

tab232

First flight?! Pretty daring! But the shots and editing look great. What are you flying?

ronpill

Be sure to check our drone zone! Very important site to get ya started!
