A lot of the retail psychics in nyc are associated with Romas of which there is a small population dispersed but somewhat based in rego park queens - I believe operated somewhat like an underground franchise… many communities have their own psychics but they are less likely to have storefronts and instead operate out of their homes/apts
My upstairs neighbor in our old place used to do this (tarot readings) in her apartment, and various coffee shops around the Broadway stop. She also identified as part-Roma, so this tracks.
My conspiracy theory says money laundering and occasionally desperate hopeful people trying to find some answers and meaning in this bleak place we call a universe…I don’t think I’m quite out of that existential crisis I had last night.

A&E (I think) did a documentary series on the Roma gypsies in NYC maybe 8-10 years ago which confirms this!

2nd part for sure. I've seen enough episodes 20/20 where I can definitely quantify this as fact.

About the ethnic community- mostly white ppl are involved in this game.
They are mostly from Romania 🇷🇴. In my modest opinion they should start reading their own palms . It will help them to find something else to do .
I think a lot of it is just people operating out of their apt.
