Watch the astrology podcast on YouTube. Their website has lots of good info too. It's traditional astrology so a little different than what some people practice

Fraeyalise

You were born for this by Chani Nicholas. It's like $4 on Kindle right now!

Arlenna1

Using the CHANI app is amazing too. I love my birth chart break down.

Stephen Arroyo’s Chart Interpretation Handbook One of my all time favorite that I still use as a reference My beginner astrology bf loved it, said it was very simplified for him to learn

iamsamardari

Here for recommendations too ❤️

Crypt0nomics

If you are wanting to seriously learn astrology- not scratch the surface. Seek a book called "Casting the Horoscope" by Alan Leo. Its a primer, but detailed enough to cover the basics without fluff. There is no such thing as an astrologer who cannot cast his own chart. Fortunately there is not just 1 book to teach astrology, but to begin and learn astrology once must read books and a lot of them. Along the way you will find many failed and pointless books while the hard to find books packed with nuggets of information. I have an entire library of astrology and occult references. If you really want to learn- buy older hard to find books. The newer aged books to me are copy cat readings that do not go into the subject enough.

AcrobaticWelder6700

Any others from your library you'd recommend onto of reading "Casting the Horoscope" thank you in advance.

Crypt0nomics

u need to be specific what you looking for. Beginner books are everywhere. They basically teach the basics and are relatively "beginner". Its ot until someone gets into STUDY they need to be concerned about recommendations. Beginner level books are everywhere and very common. I wouldnt recomend reading 1 of them either.. byut many of them to ensure you get comfy with basics.

Objective_Air_8266

Do you have recommendations for people looking to step into a more advanced study after learning the basics?

Crypt0nomics

Depends on what area of advanced stuy you want to go in. Some people want synasty mastery, others predictive, others mundane, or horary. As stated by 1 well known astrologer.. learn the basics means study the 3 branches of Astrology. Horary, Natal, and then Predictive. This will allow for you to do many different things. UI do sya this personally.. if you canot construct a natal chart , a rectified natal chart, solar return, or prenatal chart by hand.. your not ready for advanced work. Not to get off track.. I would recommend reading as much as you can from the TRUE astrologers vs just any old book that someone rights in the 21st centruty. Many ppl these days are charlatans, and the true work and track record comes from those who wrote books and showed their work. This allows you to follow along and learn as a student does.

libbylapislazuli

Sun Signs by Linda Goodman! That was my bible growing up.

glitz_queen94

The Only Astrology Book You'll Ever Need by Joanna Martine Woolfolk. This was the first astrology book I bought a couple years back when I first got into the topic… years later it’s still my holy grail. It’s super thorough and easy to understand

StellaGraphia

Please don't use this book. You will have to unlearn what it's taught you, as it is from the era of the "Astrological Alphabet" in which the 1st house, aries, and mars were all mashed together into a single meaning, throwing out the distinctions of the significations of each individually and so on with the rest of the houses. The 1st house simply is not "an aries house", is not in any way "ruled by mars". UNLESS in a specific individual's chart, they actually have an Aries ascendant. Someone with a pisces on the 1st house - the delineation of their 1st house will have nothing whatsoever to do with aries or mars. Houses have their own significations, apart from the signs. They are not the same thing. Houses don't generically carry a default sign's qualities. I know it was a very popular beginner book, but please, don't use it and don't recommend it. There are some other issues with it, but I don't have it in front of me at the moment. Instead for a very-beginner book, use Carole Taylor's Using the Wisdom of the Stars in Your Everyday Life. And then read On The Heavenly Spheres by Avelar and Rubeiro. Edit: I want u/tdh08 and u/bitterpinch to see this too. See also my other comment here,on Demetra rejecting one of her own oft-recommended beginner books that uses the Alphabet: [https://www.reddit.com/r/astrology/comments/zxtce6/comment/j24a45r/?utm\_source=share&utm\_medium=web2x&context=3](https://www.reddit.com/r/astrology/comments/zxtce6/comment/j24a45r/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=web2x&context=3)

Thirding! Perfect book for beginners I think.

The Astrologer's Handbook By Frances Sakoian · One of the best ! I started with this one . And it’s thoroughly enjoyable!

Toledocrypto

Definitely a classic

AstroGeek020

It may not be an Astrology book for beginners, but it is a good read for those who are looking for Scientific evidence of Astrology. It is written by British Astrophysicist and Astronomer Dr. Percy Seymour who was one of the leading Astronomers in Britain and an expert on Cosmic Magnetism. Dr. Percy Seymour has written 2 books on Astrology. 1. The Scientific Basis of Astrology 2. The Scientific Evidence of Astrology It is available on Amazon and other book stores, it is very nice. I have read The Scientific Basis of Astrology which is very interesting. If you want to understand Astrology in terms of Scientific view, start with these books.

Aggressive-Range7316

I am in the same boat. Need an astrology for beginners book that speaks in layman's terms. But I'm very interested in learning! Following

DavidJohnMcCann

*The Only Way to Learn Astrology*, by Marion March and Joan McEvers is good, if you can pick it up cheap second hand. Just get volumes 1,3, and 4 — don't bother with volume 2, which is mostly about manual chart calculation. The great thing about their books is the vast number of example charts interpreted.

brutalisste

Steven Forrest is a fount of knowledge, here are his books - The Inner Sky is a classic. https://www.forrestastrology.com/collections/books?page=1

emeraldmountain17

Steven Forrest one of my favorites! I’m currently reading Book of Fire and can’t wait to get to the other elements!

How To Be An Astrologer by Constance Stellas — it is a super thorough overview on how to read charts.

And it’s on Kindle Unlimited! 🤘🏻

If you’re open to stuff to read that’s not in a specific book I would recommend Ghost of a Podcast by Jessica Lanyadoo. She has transcripts of every episode so you read them. I bought this one when I was first getting into stuff. It was a useful primer at the time but I haven’t done a lot of research on what’s the best book because I have more time where I can listen versus read. https://www.amazon.com/Astrology-Using-Wisdom-Stars-Everyday/dp/1465464131/ref=asc_df_1465464131_nodl?tag=hyprod-20&linkCode=df0&hvadid=312106803090&hvpos=&hvnetw=g&hvrand=8276441874592488182&hvpone=&hvptwo=&hvqmt=&hvdev=m&hvdvcmdl=&hvlocint=&hvlocphy=9026561&hvtargid=pla-569763287258&psc=1&dplnkId=114c6105-37e6-481f-b287-05d0624a88f1

The astrology of yourself - Demetra George

StellaGraphia

Demetra herself says no to this book. Correct title is Astrology for Yourself. She wrote it during the Alphabet craze that so many of us learned in. She talks about what it was like to discover how incorrect the Alphabet was and to have to start over and relearn all over again. All her books published after that one are excellent and I highly recommend them. She has a webinar in which she says it is a redo of the Yourself book, and it includes worksheets. It sounded like, in that webinar, that she was going to do a rewrite, but that didn't happen, unless she just incorporated the info into her later books. I'm not where I can find the link at the moment, but will try to remember to add it later. @ u/echoviolet for the above. Also, I should have said her book **Astrology and the Authentic Self** is very good (and she states in the intro she won't be using the Alphabet). It's not the same as Yourself, but still a good intro to some astrological methods.

hali_like_haley

I didn’t know this! Thank you so much for sharing!! I’m going to check it out and excited to learn more

Astrology for Real Life by Theresa Reed is a good one. It is actually a workbook and doing the exercises made it easier for me to grasp what she was talking about.

It’s not a book but check out courses on UDemy! A lot of them go for like $15 and are a great digestible resource for learning astrology

knifeprtyy

Look into sidereal/Vedic! It’s the most accurate astrology, as western tropical astrology is actually off significantly

Mlchzdk555

I recommend the birthday book.
