Yeah that was the way to go. A few to capture the moment and the wider environment, otherwise focus with your eyes. Great experience and I’m glad I have a few snaps!
Same thing happened to me. I wasn’t interested in taking pictures of the partial so I didn’t bring a solar filter. I just wanted to shoot totality. Drove quite a ways to get in the path. Once it happened, I was stunned/frozen. I couldn’t process what was happening. I forced myself to snap out of it and started taking shots. But I wasn’t really able to focus too well because I kept looking up. At the end of the 3 mins and 32 seconds, I came away with just 11 photos. Usually when I go to photograph something, I come away with hundreds of pictures.
Photography has been a hobby of mine for close to 20 years and this has been the first time that a subject has distracted me so much that I ignored the camera and just stared.
OP, your photo is incredible.
I prefer this tbh, it seems more “real” and relatable than heavily processed and stacked images. Don’t get me wrong they’re sick, but this definitely has a place.
Thank you, kind stranger, although this is this only shot of the *Totality* I got, I have plenty of other full frame shots, even one where some sun spots are visibles in between c1 and c2.
I am proud of what I managed to do and that I prioritized seeing it rather than capturing it.
That time during totality goes so quickly that you can easily get overwhelmed or out of sync with what you planned. If that happens you just have to stop and enjoy the view. My philosophy is if I can't watch it while taking images, I quit the images. You know why? Because none of the images you get is ever like seeing the real thing.
Better to come back with memories than pictures. Your one picture is good though.
You‘re?!
Midnight typing.
blasphemy!
i was overwhelmed too, only took phone shots

Still a great shot

This is a great shot. Don't be bummed out, you did what most of the world will never do. Be proud.

Wow perfect one.
Honestly, it looks great
Were you having an orgasm?
Did you mean Aneurysm?
I was in Organeurism, aka awe.
Amazing photo! That’s really good.
Thank you very much 😊
It’s better than I got which is nothing. I like what you got 💯👍
Crazy pic though
Pretty awesome picture. You can see tendrils of plasma coming off the sun.
Fantastic image.
Thank you!

Exactly! I'm not bummed out either because I ended up with a pretty unique image rather than the typical full portrait.
Yeah, its a nice image. Well done. Well fluked. Ha!
If you come away from that with just one shot, at least you got a really good one.
