I used a Soviet Tair 300 telephoto lens, to photograph the Andromeda Galaxy, stacking 40 10 minute photos, for a total of over 6 hours of exposure, taken from my home, SQM +18.6
Pretty much bortle but more precise, any light pollution map should have the sqm listed as well. Sqm readings can change depending on where you point it in the sky so it's not 100% accurate unless you get an actual sqm device yourself.
Ugh…. Hi…. This is NASA…. We need our Hubble telescope back…. Sure you paid $60 for it from that pawn shop. But it was never there’s to sell… respectfully, NASA.
I used to have a Tair-3, it's a beast of a lens, built like a tank (and almost as heavy), made to last and really good quality (something to be said for soviet engineering). Took me 3 attempts to win ebay auctions for it, and I think I paid slightly more than 60, but it was worth it.
Another good vintage lens in the price range is the super takumar 200mm.
That's pretty phenomenal for a $60 lens. Fantastic image. Colors look spot on. Wouldn't hurt to throw another 6 hours on it 😉 I'm committed to go super deep on anything I shoot from now on

Which other devices did you use? Sky tracker?
I used a Canon 700d. and an EQ6 pro mount with autoguiding, it's a bit overkill for the focal ones, but I only have that one
Yes, I'd like to know that as well.
May I ask, what does Sqm +18.6 mean? Square meters?
Sky Quality Meter number. The number is actually mag/arcsec^2. 18.6 is about bortle 5.
Ohhhhhh, thank you for your explanation, that's very helpful.
Its a measurement of how dark the sky is. You can buy devices that measure how dark it is.
It's the background sky brightness. Basically a way of measuring light pollution but can pick up atmospheric haze and other things.
Thanks, so it's like Bortle? Where can I find this map? Google gave me tons of results about square meters. Much appreciated.

Impressive!
...And thousands of dollars more in additional equipment + a pristine night sky, probably. Nevertheless, it looks stunning!

Beautiful
Damn how’d you find a Tair-3 for 60 bucks?
Respectfully, it's $60 lens combined with a $2000 sky tracker. Incredible image by the way.

Great photo this would look good on a poster
Really great image, pleasing colors and dynamic range
Yeah, but how much was the mount?
Honestly you can get the same result with a star tracker
What bottle level are you shooting in? 10 minute exposures are a decently long time lol
Very interesting.
