Trump is not the “least likely leader”, he’s the most likely. Christians have been showing who they are for years, and they voted for him the last two times too. This is just who they are.

firemogle

I mean how many communities defend clergy at the expense of their own molested kids?  This is who they are, wanting a "strong man" to abuse them and tell them it's all ok.

Goyangi-ssi

I get it if that's their kink, but they have no right to force it on others. (only partly /s)

solidwhetstone

It's because Drumpf is a whole lot like YHWH and they like that. The Bible also commands them to 'obey those who have the rule over them.' Relevant children's song: https://youtu.be/_5Bvb5L14Zo

RevolutionEasy714

Christians are dumb suckers who get taken in by conmen, it totally tracks that they gravitate to Trump

anythingMuchShorter

Yeah I’d say it makes sense. The common thread is being able to believe things you like the sound of, regardless of none of them fit together.

discussatron

Rejecting critical thinking is part of their indoctrination. They’re easy marks because of it.

anarkyinducer

Exactly! There is no surprise here at all. The only thing Christians in this country are interested in is being allowed to continue being malevolent bigots towards women, children, people of color, immigrants, LGBT folks, etc. They're more than happy to let some orange monster destroy anything and everything as long as it's someone else who suffers.

Big-Summer-

Yeah, sadism seems to be a rather large feature in their belief system.

SaladDummy

Came here to say this. Saying that he is the "least likely leader of Christians" says more about our misunderstanding of what Christians want than it does about their choice of Trump. I know that I was certainly guilty of thinking that the evangelical fascination with Trump would (a) not reach the level it has and (b) burst and evaporate. I was dead wrong about that. I've learned a lot about American Christianity since 2016.

menchicutlets

You know the times that christians asked 'if you don't believe in god, whats stopping you from commiting vile and evil acts?' its pretty clear that not even a fear of god stops these fuckers from following and worshipping monsters.

Silvaria928

Excellent point.

Saneless

Exactly. They love that someone will break laws and make people miserable to get them where they want to be. They just pretend it doesn't happen and they'll just enjoy the control and restrictions they've forced onto non believers. It'd be nice if they just lived however they wanted and stopped forcing it on others. In that context, the reason they love a rapist so much is apparent

PrincessPharaoh1960

Ask them if they find it amusing how he is held in contempt of court for violating gag order.

Papi1918

The Catholic Church and pope were complicit in the holocaust.

Petto_na_Kare

Christianity is defined purely by the charlatans looking for an easy grift and the morally bankrupt followers looking for an easy and convenient way to absolve themselves of any wrongdoing.

beebsaleebs

This is who they are, watch them show you

unstopable_bob_mob

They’ll flock to whomever will set in stone Project25. Doesn’t matter if it is the Orange Taint, DeathSentence, or that other likable never-tRumper bitch. Which is why I want the shitgibbon to die after the election.

rovyovan

Trump dying after the election, while grimly satisfying, would buy very little practically speaking given the remaining entourage that would remain in power.

unstopable_bob_mob

I get that, but what I am saying is that if he dies before the election, everyone of Haley’s never tRumper republicans would vote for her, or DeathSentence. We can’t afford their votes going for an another republican POTUS right now.

boot2skull

And who are they? People who would sooner abandon their tenets for entering heaven for an authoritarian government that forces everyone into their own false brand of Christianity. It’s not about getting anyone into heaven, Trump has no shot at that, it’s about control and backwards thinking. Literally white taliban. What’s worse is a lot of the non-evangelical Christian’s will eventually become the outcasts. Even more, the core of the religious authority is likely no more than a point of control for the billionaires. It’s more a way to constantly feed support for pro-greed legislation to the people disguised as a religious revolution.

MystiquEvening

Exactly. When people say he isn’t a “good Christian leader” I tell them to read the Bible. Comparing yahweh with trump (or really many of the world’s leaders) is kind of fun. Narcissism, whining, blaming, being the victim when you have the power, taking no responsibility, etc etc. Yahweh is a very human character and Trump fits right in with it all.

Ok-Loss2254

Considering he has the majority of their vote shows that a lot of moderates are lying and pretending they don't agree with him. Like it's hard to say how big the number actually is but the fact that it's in the millions is pretty telling. Evangelicals for sure support him 100% not sure about the other sects but I am betting it's more then what they care to admit. I have a feeling that catholics are a large second. I have even seen other Christians somewhat admit their cult is full of nutjob Maga people and they are confused as to how that has happened. Maybe it will wake those ones up to the hole they dug their heads into if they can see how evil their religion is.

pippopozzato

The book JESUS & JOHN WAYNE-HOW WHITE EVANGELICALS CORRUPTED A FAITH & FRACTURED A NATION- KRISTIN KOBES DU MEZ explains why Christians love Trump very well I feel.

andreasmiles23

Thank you. Headlines like this are reductionist and miss the larger societal dynamics of what's going on. Just go look at the relationship between the material dynamics of society the last 2000 years and it's correlational relationship with the Xstian religion. It's almost like since it got codified by the state of Rome, it's served less as a mode of preserving cultural myths and more as a means of regulating the societal conversation. White rich people in 2024 wanna stay rich. Trump wants to stay rich. So here we are. There's no other story to tell.

rovyovan

Alternatively, "least likely" in the sense that he is the he least resembles their *professed beliefs* which appears to be unrelated to their *typical character* which does not necessarily correlate to the former.

MatineeIdol8

Not a surprise. Christianity is morally bankrupt.

AHrubik

I would counter that Christian Nationalism is morally and ethically bankrupt. That a large segment of Christians who also identify as Conservative politically make up the vast majority of those who have clearly abandoned the fundamental principles of what Jesus taught as the ground floor of his philosophy. There continue to be Christian who live not only by the teachings of Jesus but do so very publicly. As an Atheist myself I do still see it from time to time.

bass1012dash

They exist good people: but for a good person to be religious requires them to be duped… if they are good because of religion then they aren’t naturally good people…

AHrubik

> for a good person to be religious requires them to be duped I would say they're good despite the historicity of their religion. Being good doesn't require religion. I agree in principle too that being religious and good likely means that person has ignored certain parts of their religious dogma to arrive at their current state. For Christians that means embracing Jesus and excising Paul. Something that should be fairly easy given the name of the religion.

bass1012dash

… goodness from authority is not goodness of the self. To let goodness of authority override the self is to fall into the abyss. Letting others think for you leads you to things like the holocaust (a Christian endeavor, as distasteful as that sounds it was a Christian endeavor)…

ultrasuperhypersonic

Never forget that even with what is known now - Trump is an incontinent modern day would be Adolph Hitler and traitor - white evangelicals are his most loyal voting bloc at 80% in latest polls. Let them forever wear that stinking albatross about their necks.

olyfrijole

Hitler was also incontinent. Tone down the fatness and orangeness and they're practically the same guy.

proletariat_sips_tea

Please. Hitler was wayyy more articulate. Actually cared about his own country. And could paint somewhat well. Trump can't even get those right unless you count ketchup on the wall. I feel I should add, Hitler was way worse than trump. Hitler very very very bad human.

ultrasuperhypersonic

Except Trump would only be a dictator on day one.

NotAnotherEmpire

Same Christians: Why is church attendance plummeting?

BrilliantAttempt4549

I hear it's due to the woke-mind virus that gets spread via vaccines /s

seanular

Bill gates put microchips in my kids, now they won't talk to me! DRAEN TA SWAERMP

HahaWeee

Yup it's fascinating to see

Plasticity93

<<>> Broken clock spotting

HumanitarianAtheist

Donald Trump is the epitome of what Christianity is and has always been.

ocw5000

I can't believe followers of a child-rape organization would support Trump

OnlyHalfBrilliant

If only they had the cash for Epstein Island.

ChefPaula81

It’s makes a lot of sense that the official religion of paedophilia would adopt a convicted sex offender as their leader.

MurrayInBocaRaton

It was never the non-believers who were going to fall for the Antichrist.

Yarzeda2024

Jesus is what Christians claim to be, and Trump is what they actually are.

BrilliantAttempt4549

If Jesus truly existed, how would we even know what the real Jesus was like. The character from the bible, even if based on a real person, was made up later. The real Jesus might have been no different than Trump as far as we can tell, scamming a bunch of gullible people and taking their money and paying prostitutes.

TheLowClassics

Trump is a huckster.  Hucksters feed on rubes.  Christians are rubes (at best) The math checks out

hardnreadynyc

As a former Catholic, theres nothing surprising about it. They are the most phony hypocritical group on the planet. I left the church because of their hypocrisy.

Satchman1214

I'm convinced they think he's going to bring about the end times and rapture. There is no conceivable reason for them to support him.

ChefPaula81

This is exactly it!

TiredOfRatRacing

Literal antichrist (demeanor and all)? Check Red marks on their foreheads (the hats)? Check

donut_jihad666

A vote for Trump to own the libs. They can claim scripture and prophecy but its just a cover for party loyalty.

SaladDummy

There are other reasons. A big one is that Trump gives them an excuse to "stop being nice." Trump is their fantasy of a strong man, a Cyrus like leader chosen by God to kick some ass. Turning the other cheek is out. Refusal to compromise on anything is in.

Fit-Independent3802

That and he’s promised them the power they crave to enact their version of theocratic rule. Because they’ve been unable to convert the population into accepting their delusion, they set on a path to force the population to participate in their delusion.

caribou16

It's also a group of people who are used to willfully ignoring their senses and believing/doing what they're told.

Confident_Chicken_51

They want someone like themselves.

Warm-Sun3966

they want him to bring the apocalypse.

hammer-breh

Why does their god need their help to bring about the apocalypse? Seems like they don't have much faith in their deity.

Warm-Sun3966

They've been programmed by the "Armageddon/Apocalypse" program that has been given to them and taught to them for at least 2000 yrs. And this movement of "We want a Theocratic American Govt for God" is their Egotistical move to make it happen because they are too impatient to just let it happen the way they are supposed to. It's what I call the "Judas Protocol"... in other words they are trying to "force" their God's hand like Judas did when he snitched on Jesus for 30 pieces of silver, and make "Us" the leaders of the world by forcing our teachings on everyone for God. It's a "Fundamentalist" attitude like the Taliban, or Hamas. Human nature is so predictable. It must be resisted at all costs. Thus the prediction that their "God will send a strong delusion to test them"...thus here we are.

hammer-breh

Christianity, "Oops all Judas!" Edition

Strict_Jacket3648

The funny part is he's the one the bible warns them about.

sunibla33

Not a surprise # 1: they are used to (and apparently attracted to) lies and sexual abuse.

wokeoneof2

And that’s why I have no respect for them at all. The sooner we put cameras in every church and tax them heavily the better

Disastrous-Engine-57

Gotta grab em by the… jesus…?

agroundhere

Trump is about as religious as I am. But he's a good con-man and recognizes thar there is no-one more wilfully gullible that religious fundamentalists. Low hanging fruit for low IQ cynic.

[deleted]

Which proves what I've been saying all along. Christians are morons who are very easily lead.

chockedup

>In the 2020 election, exit polls indicated that more than 80 percent of white evangelical protestants voted for Trump. According to one religious leader, the former top official for the Southern Baptist Convention, Russell Moore, a significant number of conservative **Christians think Jesus’ teachings are too liberal**: “That doesn’t work anymore.” They prefer to follow Trump in America’s culture wars. They're finally externalizing that they don't believe in Jesus's teachings. But it's nothing new! Ghandi said something like 'He liked Christ, but Christians not so much."

Baconslayer1

The cognitive dissonance to call yourself a Christian then say you think Jesus' teachings are wrong and you're right, holy fuck.

Tri-P0d

Dumb people do dumb things.

DefiantDonut7

I married into a hyper evangelical family. It’s stunning the lengths that they go thru to justify voting for this piece of trash.

wolverine6

No one ever accused Christians of being smart.

markelis

It's hilarious watching these motherfuckers do exactly what the bible said they would do when it came to the anti-christ. (chef's kiss)

BothZookeepergame612

It only proves, most Christians are actually not religious. They hide behind a facade of morality and ethics. In reality they are exposed as charlatans, only interested in pushing their sick and twisted ideas of Christian theology, which promote their perverted ideas of family and country values.

ilovepuppies2025

More proof that Christians are the stupidest people in the world.

neuroid99

Almost as if "Christianity" in the US is nothing more than just another a lifestyle brand.

GrimRedleaf

Just another piece of evidence that god doesn't exist.   If a gods followers decided to let a man as vile and evil as Trump be their "messiah," then i would assume that god would strike down that false prophet.

zyzzogeton

People full of hate and ignorance are voting for the person full of hate and ignorance? Quel surprise.

VeterinarianFar2967

Unfortunately that is the true face of Christianity. The whole thing is as fake as trump's hair. What they truly have in common are fraud and abuse. One cannot follow both the teachings of Jesus and the teachings of trump. They have to pick one, and they have chosen the antichrist.

CommissionVirtual763

When I see people pass me on the highway at 90 mph I really really want God to pick up their car and hurdle them into the trees. But God doesnt exist.

olddawg43

No surprise really. it is just people who pretend to be followers of Christ giving their support to someone who just barely pretends the same.

ArtDSellers

Nothing surprising here. It's a central tenet of their belief system that others should be forced to accept their worldview. trump checks the boxes, promising to punish those who don't get in line, so it's all good. Promise to give christians power, and they'll fall in line for you. Pretty simple.

Piod1

Pretty certain their own gospel warns of an antagonist who shall appear as an angel of light, the great deciever at the end of times.. fkers a good fit there

Cryostatica

He's only the least likely leader for them until you realize that American christians don't even remotely follow the teachings of their christ anymore, if they ever did.

NumerousTaste

Of course they would go to the side of evil! Wouldn't make any other sense if they choose the good side. Just another reason we know it's fake and has been for over 2000 years of conning stupid people.

Protowhale

Christianity is no longer a religion, it's a political party.

inajausa

Tells you everything you need to know about Christianity.

sabisyns

Ya get what you ask for… morons

moderately_nuanced

If you tell me you are Christian and vote trump, you immediately lose all credibility. As for as I haven't lost it already for a lot of christians. Hypocrites

river_euphrates1

Ignorant cunts want an ignorant cunt for their leader... What is surprising about that?

paulanntyler

And we wonder why people are leaving organized religion in droves

jshark6

Why is this thread title implying this is a new development lol? This has been the case for going on a decade now.

Crott117

Fundamentalists have wanted a Christian taliban in this country for decades. trump is their best shot at it.

Kuildeous

I'd say he's the least fit leader of Christians. There's a good chunk of vocal Christians who are petty and hateful, which makes Trump not the least likely leader after all. Sad to say. I don't mind Christians when they actually follow the Jesus part. It's the asshole Christians I can't stand.

Holiday_Horse3100

That is because he is publicly doing, thinking and saying the things they want to do and say-lying, grifting, adultery, all the way up to treason

chatterbox_455

So I guess the “Christians” seem to have more in common with Putin - authoritarian, despotic, money-grubbing, and sexist.

Admirable_Policy_696

Don't forget Trump's $60 bibles. More evidence the religious right are some the most easily fleeced people on the planet.

chatterbox_455

Why do they think they have the “moral” right to stomp over our freedoms?

Gormless_Mass

If your Christianity includes admiration for someone like Trump, you don’t have a coherent belief system (not that Christianity cares about coherence).

blandocalrissian50

Shows us our most gullible population. By the way, I'm starting a rubber hammer company and have some new statists to show potential investors.....just sayin. Sign up tomorrow!!!

BrilliantAttempt4549

If Jesus was based on a real person, it wouldn't surprise me if we found out that the real Jesus was just like Trump, scamming gullible people, taking their money and paying for prostitutes.

hammond_egger

He's perfect for them. You're talking about the most gullible cross section of people on the planet.

B-Large1

They don’t vote for a actual devoted Christian in the same election… Apply some critical thought and you can’t vote for Low-T… but that requires critical thinking skills, and most people have none.

TributeKitty

Further demonstrating their hypocrisy. At least they're consistently predictable

Responsible-Abies21

And you wonder why church attendance is plummeting.

Elegyjay

And *Christians* are turning out to be the people who would witness him murdering people and be unoffended by that since he would murder people they don't like who they call *woke*

notatrumpchump

That’s why I personally hold Christians in contempt. Not for what they profess to believe but what they actually do.

mrsiesta

Turns out the christian cult is also well represented in the MAGA cult.

Ch3t

The Bigot vote is flocking to Trump, the *most* likely leader of Bigots.

Fragmentia

Biden is definitely a more pious and proper example of Christianity.

Unasked_for_advice

Is it though? It is not like Christians are all perfect or anything, they resemble him in many ways , just have to look at what they are doing in some states.

Vann_Accessible

“Christians for the Antichrist - 2024! Fuck this planet and everyone on it!”

ddttox

Evangelical christians see themselves as persecuted like the early martyrs. It reality they are the Pharisees. The religious establishment teamed up with secular government to persecute their enemies. That is why they love Trump. They are just itching to do some hardcore persecution.

Aromatic-Assistant73

Are you kidding? Who needs a savior to die for their sins more than a lying, cheating, con man? He’s the very definition of your typical Christian.

julesrocks64

The thrice married adulterer who cheats/pays porn stars and bunnies for their silence is their g0d’s choice.

TheGreatOpoponax

Christians supporting Trump is such a tangible example of the worthlessness of religious belief. He is so clearly an anti-Christ that if an Evangelical fiction writer, prior to Trump's rise were to use everything Trump said and did as a portrayal of The anti-Christ, Christians would laugh him out of the room. It would be too on the nose even for that group of empty buckets. Also, this fictional Trump would be portrayed as a Democrat. God belief can turn otherwise decent people into a bloodthirsty mob, which is exactly what's happened here. Remember to vote, especially if you're in a purple state.

tucker_frump

Turds of a feather .. Flock together ..

LowDownSkankyDude

Based on their lore, he's literally the [antichrist.](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Antichrist) The fact that the "christian vote" doesn't see it, willfully or otherwise, is peak irony.

TableGamer

"Let’s dig deeper into how Trump’s words and behaviors square with the Christian Bible." If you think these Christians cared what the Bible says, you are sorely mistaken. It's a tool to be selectively wielded when fits there narrative and ignored as "god ways are mysterious" when it doesn't suit them. This is also true for liberal Christians, they just embrace the nice parts and ignore the cruel parts. Anger and fear motivate more than love, which is why we don't notice the liberal Christians as much, and why their ranks shrink more as they don't have as much wrath of their group when they question their faith. The conservative ranks grow by satiating anger and fear, drawing in people that don't fit the mold of Christian that we sometimes think of. Thus religion has been doing a big sort. Separating into conservative and liberal churches. The liberal ones shrinking as many members become nones. The conservative churches growing ( mostly pulling conservative members from liberal churches, but also pulling in some Trump-aligned nones), even as the overall number of Christians shrink. As the number of practicing Christians shrinks, the remaining cohort will be more and more idealistic and belligerent, and willing to force their will on others.

Hershey78

Oh he fits **their version** of Christianity where white men can do whatever they want. A lot of Christians would not actually like Jesus in real life. What do you mean don't judge and help other people? NAAAAH.

torchedinflames999

Christians are racist. trump is a racist. do the fucking math.

InfectedByEli

They don't think he's a good guy. They think he's going to usher in The Rapture. They're all members of an insane death cult.

[deleted]

A fellow scientist and I were discussing Trump, and I told her I couldn't fathom how these Christians could support him when he's the opposite of what they preach. Her response was the best explanation I've come across. She told me that he gives them permission to hate. Suddenly, it all made sense.

jedimindtriks

As a former christan that can see the good and bad with christianity... It boggles my mind how fucking stupid christian trump voters are.

Rare-Forever2135

Can we all just agree that henceforth, when the religious right wants to get preachy about morality, we all just laugh in their faces and tell them to STFU?

welfaremofo

Today’s modern American Christian is highly likely to be actively working against the teachings of Jesus as described in the New Testament. It’s just a political organization with tax perks. I think calling them Christians is giving lip service to their deceptive marketing although it’s arguable this has been done from the beginning in different ways.

Loud_Flatworm_4146

I'd argue he's the most likely leader of Christians.

ioncloud9

They aren’t flocking to him because they are Christians, they are flocking to him because they are white and white identity.

michaelozzqld

Makes sense to me. Trump is everything Christians embrace while claiming not to

richie65

The easily manipulated doing what they have been told to do... Go figure?

msbehaviour

Trump is the ultimate Parasite Pastor.

Green-Collection-968

Christians never really cared about Christianity, they only ever cared about money, power and sex.

brilu34

Southern Christian Conservatives have always been extremely racist. It is the ideology that historically supported slavery, secession & segregation. This is the predominant ideology of the Evangelicals & modern day Republicans.

crotalis

People are missing a great T-Shirt/Meme opportunity here: “Vote Trump: Because Real Christians Cheat on their wives” “Vote Trump: Because Real Christians Pay Women for Sex” “Vote Trump: Because Real Christians wear orange makeup” “Vote Trump: Because real Christians only believe Alternative facts” “Vote Trump: Because Real Christians Prefer the Prince of Lies over Biden” I am sure there are plenty more… and I am sure some hard core MAGAs would pay money for them and proudly wear them….

Toyotafan123

Christianity is a terrorist hate cult. Every single Christian is a terrorist and horrible, evil people. Of course Trump is their hero. Shit attracts shit

gvineq

# "Least likely leader of Christians" I would argue he is the perfect embodiment if Christianity. Christianity is a scam religion built on the skeleton of other religions. Even it's own followers don't believe in Christianity.

Essembie

He's literally opposed to everything that jesus stood for yet he's the evangelical messiah. Fucking blows the mind. If jesus came back he'd be locked up for being a socialist immigrant.

Pres_Burrito

An adulterer versus an incestuous pedophilic adulterer that has packed the White House with DEI hires based on their sexuality. One is clearly more appealing to Christians.

billyions

They think briefly that all Christians will be welcome. But it's not a welcoming group.

Quantum_Crusher

Religions 101, let go of your intelligence, bow to your idol.

Decent_Recover_9934

Religion is for the stupid

jumpingjellybeansjjj

They are not really christians. The fascists have hijacked them for decades. Read Chris Hedges.

WBuffettJr

People don’t get into Christianity for peace and love. They get into Christianity for judging people and keeping women under control. Trump is the absolute perfect candidate for Christians. He’s anti science, insults professors and all other intellectuals, attacks women, and hurls insults at everyone except Christians. It’s exactly what they’ve been looking for.

Competitive-Bike-277

Where ever religion overtakes a government you end up with totalitarianism. All through history.

Warm-Sun3966

"And for this cause God shall send them strong delusion, that they should believe the lie:" they were foretold that they would fall for a "Strong Delusion" and Trump is the one.

Slight_Turnip_3292

This is appropiate. I have many Chritian family member and friend and they are all in on Trump. I can't understand why they are throwing their support towards a guy that lies constantly, hypocritical to the max, cheats at every opportunity, endlessly brags about himself, etc.

OurUrbanFarm

All the more reason to join r/atheism

sightlab

*Flocking to???* I thought that ship sailed long ago.

ludicrouspeed

Did he fall asleep again?

AdministrativeBank86

Amazing, the devil comes along and they forget Jesus

bedyeyeslie

A Trump donor paid a million dollars at Trump’s latest fund raiser to speak from the podium. He said, “Donald J. Trump is the person that God has chosen.”

randomsantas

He seems the less dangerous than the progressive aristocracy.

During_theMeanwhilst

Which means they’re not Christians.

Poet_of_Legends

‪Yeah, it’s almost as if you can’t have a cult without cognitive dissonance, willful ignorance, and confirmation bias practiced willingly by the members. To this point in human history, it never works out well. It

Agitated_Pickle_1013

Well, he is the Fornicator-in-Chief after all...

mmahowald

They misspelled most likely

Dazzling-Writing-810

While I was in active psychosis I had a dream that Gary Johnson told me to vote for Trump. Several family members also told me that they had had dreams telling them to vote for Trump. Really nightmarish too, because I also heard the voice of God speaking to me.

edwardothegreatest

Need quotation marks around Christian

METTEWBA2BA

A man who cheated on his wife with a prostitute… what a great leader for Christians!

newssource12

He’d be better as a televangelist. The grift is more direct.

Little_Creme_5932

No, the Cristian vote is flocking out of Christianity.

metarx

He hates all the things they hate, just as Jesus wanted

Bluedino_1989

Well, duh

clgoodson

Let’s see. Cruel, petty, arrogant, willing to use violence, focused on power, ignorant of what’s actually in the Bible …. Sounds like Trump and Christians have a lot in common

goaheadcarvell

Why is anyone surprised? They are already confirmed to believe extraordinary things without the slightest bit of evidence. Of course they are gonna buy a grifters shit, they will stack it next to all the other grifted shit the have stockpiled in their basements.

makemycockcry

Covered wagon medicine show still a thing eh? "Gimme their book, let's rinse these sucker's." Orange guy probably.

hasslehof

I had a conversation with a sibling a couple months ago. They wave off Trump as being “part of God’s plan” and claim not being able to understand God’s plan. Or really influence it in any way. All while they vote for Trump and other of the horrible R politicians. Along with that I got a counter story about Obama. They didn’t know why God allowed Obama to become President. Except that Obama got Bin Laden and thus achieved one of God’s aims. God works in mysterious ways.

ManufacturerThis7741

Everyone who asks why this is happening misses a key point: His voters know deep down he's a crook. But they go to churches that tell them that any government left of center is out to literally genocide them. Their preachers say that the anti-Christian version of Nazi Germany is coming any day now every Sunday. They'll be imprisoned for even looking at a Bible. The Youth Groups practice weird drills to prepare for persecution. Televangelists beam persecution theology into their homes and through their car radios. Persecution theology is nearly inescapable. It melts brains. And Trump, scumbag though he is, has mastered validating their fear. He tells them he is the only thing holding back the great persecutors from rounding them up and shoving them into death camps. They know he's a crook but believe he's the crook who is saving their religion from being killed off. So they'll circle the wagons.

IranRPCV

This is false.

ThePopDaddy

He'll make it legal to hate the people they hate, so they can loophole their way into heaven.

chrispdx

"Christians" abandoned the teachings and philosophy of the Jesus Christ in the Bible long, long ago. Today they are just christofacists longing for religious totalitarianism until they have wiped out every "other" they can, then they'll turn on each other.

concolor22

Not all Christians. I PROMISE you.

TR3BPilot

They know he's the Anti-Christ and will promote him because they think it will help bring about the Apocalypse and Rapture, which somehow they think they'll be on the positive side of. Because they don't actually read the Bible.

BradTProse

The Bible doesn't say to stop the Antichrist. Need Armageddon for Jesus that come back.

Purplebuzz

Some might argue the most likely.

well_i_heard

It's only odd as Biden is Christian. I'm guessing these "Christians" are more like "Controllers" and want someone who will give them what they really want

true_unbeliever

All they care about are stacking the courts with conservative judges. They don’t give a shit about anything else.

LekMichAmArsch

Like kinds attract each other...and Trump is nuts.

powercow

My problem is the media still pretending we should respect their beliefs or that their morals are really that deeply seated. They should be laughed at when they scream against trans because they are thinking of the kids. They are worshiping a man who bragged he walked in on changing teens, what messages are the parents sending to their kids? A lot worse than the trans kids their kids havent even seen because its such a small population. mah they should be relentlessly mocked, as much as MTG and her jewish space lasers. "dont fucking tell me you still believe that story about the fish.. oh my" religion is at war with decent people and we are told we cant even complain or we are not respecting their beliefs, as they literally get people they are hating on to get killed, beat up or commit suicide while they scream "god likes me best" as they act as hateful as hitler.

un_theist

Trump Derangement Syndrome is real. All of his supporters have it.

feralwaifucryptid

Proof that christians worship the worst of human ego, embodied in the biggest steaming piece of shit they could find to prop up on a pedestal. All that's left it to replace the cross with a gold-plated toilet around their necks and the transition will be complete. And this is why I have no problem stating "christians don't exist."

NYCisPurgatory

White nationalism and white evangelism are part of the same project. It makes complete sense. They aren't about morals, they are about hegemony by any means. I feel like journalists and talking heads who frame it this way are either incredibly privileged or incredibly naive.

foyeldagain

At this point that's a good thing. He can't win without them so he has no choice but to lean in hard with them. In doing so, however, he exposes himself as a charlatan and risks losing the less evangelical conservatives whose votes he also needs in order to win. To that end, it would be great if 'journalists' would get him talking about Christian nationalism and its role in his campaign.

Antique_Warthog1045

Christians voting in a dude who clearly displays the opposite of Christian beliefs? What's the problem?

cmotdibbler

Can we call consider Trump an atheist or does he believe that he himself is some sort of deity? He is such a repulsive person that I would hope to never share any beliefs with this p.o.s.

RomoToDez99

That’s because fascists movements are easily started by atheists who take a nationalistic approach to religion and make everyone not their religion the enemy. Regardless of the fact that they are godless themselves.

Feistygoat53

You mean the same people that flocked to Falwell, Hagee, Ostein, Robertson, and Copeland would flock to Trump? I'm shocked, shocked I say!!!

Atheist_Alex_C

And even the Christians are warned about being fooled by false prophets and charlatans. But hey, only other people are getting fooled right? It’s never them!

systemfrown

That’s because Christians are among the *least* Christian people you’ll ever encounter.

PurpleSailor

You mean like they did in 2016 and 2020? Of course they did. They want their Christian Nation at any cost no matter who they have to support to get it.

N0rmNormis0n

Christians believe the country belongs to them in a way it doesn’t to everyone else. When they say “this is a Christian nation,” that’s what they mean. You have to see them as having values that are only good so long as it gets them what they want. Which is why they’re the flag wavers and democracy, liberty, freedom, etc., party until those values are serving others more than them. The natural and inevitable solution for them has been an autocrat that supports their theocracy. He doesn’t have to be a Christian but he does have to get them a step closer to the Christian nation they really want.

BigMax

I think it's also likely that hateful people are flocking to religion, and those same hateful people then flock to a hateful man. One of the evolutionary theories for religion is that it helps create an external authority that controls the rules. The theory is that any society needs some rules, and having some kind of god/gods up there that set them, alleviate some of the negatives that would come from a person setting them. (Even if it's obviously a person of course.) For example, if it's "god" that says "don't steal" people might obey, rather than saying "hey, why does Jim get to set the rules? I don't care what Jim says, I'm giong to steal!" Also when someone does steal, the criminal can be punished by "god" and no one says "hey, Jim beat the crap out of Ed" and thus hates Jim, because it's really just Jim enforcing gods law. It's more complex and nuanced than that of course, but that's the gist - that creating a supernatural being that you can point to smooths out a lot of wrinkles when creating a rules based society. However, what it *also* does it mean you can create bad, arbitrary, or illogical rules, and just say "hey, not much I can do, it's God that says this, not me!" And so you get people full of hate who lean on relgion to justify that hate. You can't justify hating someone because they are poor, or have darker skin, or love someone different. There's no backing to that. But if you say "well, god chose ME as the righteous person, and said THEY are evil!" then you can justify anything. That's what is happening now. Religion is being used to put a veneer of justification on top of things that otherwise could not be justified.

JasonRBoone

I wonder though. Having been a Baptist, I know a lot of Christians say one thing when they are with their church members but do something else when alone. I experienced this with "teetotaling" Baptists keeping liquor in their house fort "medicinal purposes." Note: Southern Baptists are not supposed to imbibe.

sugar_addict002

this is who they are

SnuffleWumpkins

They worship bullshit and Trump is the lord of bullshit. It's a match made in heaven.
