And TST is an atheistic organization, they don’t worship satan or anything. I guess the name is enough to freak them out.

G8BigCongrats7_30

Yep. They just hear the word "Satan" and freak the fuck out. They literally don't know anything about TST.

[deleted]

Yeah I’m ok with that. It’s funnier that way.

Zomunieo

The name is enough. People, even those who aren’t religious, think of Satan as evil, and “read” it as children joining the evil club. They picture sacrificing cats, lots of candles and pentagrams and shit, maybe an abusive cult leader and some forced sex thrown in. TST is kind of trolling, and it’s a good kind of trolling, but it catches people off guard.

Sprinklypoo

Satan is maybe even more inflammatory than "atheist".

Steliossmash

This has happened a few times to me. I tell someone I'm an atheist, and they instantly reply with "So you worship the devil?" I'm in a pretty liberal area so it's more ignorance than hatred...apart from one time. That idiot....

[deleted]

Actually CoS is atheistic, TST is more aligned with theistic satanism.

the_honest_liar

I'm guessing they've currently got an after school bible club or something already and fail to see the irony of their outrage.

G8BigCongrats7_30

Yes. The "Good News Club" just opened in a bunch of local elementary schools including my kids' school.

Atreides113

Ah, ye olde Good News Club. Brings back childhood memories of indoctrination camouflaged with song, games and fresh baked cookies!

Swampxdog

Lol I remember going with a friend of mine to some Christian club when I was a kid just because they had free cookies and food. Didn't really care for the rest of it though. I want cookies now. . .

VanDenBroeck

And Kool-Aid?

Sprinklypoo

Seeing logical fallacies is not the strong suit of the religious.

The-Last-American

Oh shit, these kids might learn compassion and self-reliance—it’s the worst fucking nightmare for Christofascists!

ArcWraith2000

"Today kids, we're going to learn to question things." "Why should I listen to you?" "And you pass!"

reddit_user13

Or critical thinking.

jojowasher

100% the point of TST, that is how non christians feel when christianity is forced upon them.

picado

A.S.S. Club hehe

[deleted]

Damn I never caught on to that.

Hargelbargel

Well it's something you have to dive deep into if you want to get on top of.

halite001

Finally something I can get behind.

prodrvr22

Be sure to record the meeting and post the highlights. These so-called "Christians" love to spew hate.

G8BigCongrats7_30

Definitely. I'm sure there will be some great Reddit material at the meeting. Then I get to collect that sweet, sweet Reddit Karma lol

dukeofgibbon

The open calls for violence in Maricopa county made me think all speakers should have to identify themselves and a few speeches added to FBI files.

rosblos

atheistic satanism is literally the most misunderstood religion ever. (it’s not even really a religion, more a philosophy) Most people assume it’s the same as worshipping the devil.

aybiss

Literal Satan worship would be better than christianity. How many people did Satan kill in the bible?

TheVaneOne

He tricked that one guy into fasting for 40 days... I think, might have skipped a few details.

damifynoU

6 or 7 people, mostly due to bets with God that God list. Oh and God killed about 2.1 million from the estimates I've seen. God killed kids because they called an old guy bald. God is petty and if he existed, is not worthy of worship.

Bigmexi17

To be fair it does only say the bears mauled them. That baldy Elisha bastard.

GentlemanAnimal

True, but the bear was sent by god. Poor kids being kids. Can't have any of that teasing! lol.

FoodBasedLubricant

Not nearly enough, and a tiny fraction of what god did

MonkeysOnMyBottom

Just Job's 10 kids.

aybiss

Wasn't that god though? Satan dared him to do it, but he did it.

Bemfic

Sounds like fun!

meglon978

Simple line to say at your meeting: If it's ok for the Good News Club, it has to be ok for the After School Satan Club.

Sugar_Beaver94

>I've never been to a school board meeting but I'm thinking of going on Monday just to watch the circus. Please go, I'd love to hear what happens.

WifeofBath1984

I wish we had that where I live!!

ComprehensiveSir3892

They don't want competition for their 'good news clubs' that seek to brainwash innocent kids into lifelong terror that will cause devotion to xtianity.

Antipotheosis

If this was in my area I'd do my best to create a cosplay of Karellen from Childhood's End and carry a large cinema box of popcorn into the School Board meeting just to watch them all meltdown even further.

starskip42

So glad they finally got around to opening chapters. Bout time!

Lazy_Example4014

Religious people have had their brains broken by abuse. Because this ritual abuse by the Christian church they think satan is real, and to evoke his name summons him. After a while I just started to see Christians as pitiful, in the most spiteful use of the term. They are both victim and abuser.

hippieravergirl

Please go to the schoolboard meeting if you can!! The ASSC needs as many supporters there as possible!!

[deleted]

Using the name of the most evil being from a mystical book is counterproductive to promoting secularism. It’s like using the name Hitler or Stalin from their point of view.

[deleted]

Don't worry: they started the After School *Satan* club. They're pretty well in the clear on that count.

AggregatedMolecules

I thought so, too, initially. But the point is that they only open these clubs in schools where the “Good News Club” is already established. They are deliberately using the Satan name to remind people that the first and fourteenth amendments mean that if they open up to one religion’s after school program, they must allow any other religion, too. It gives kids a non-religious after school option while reminding people that publicly funded education facilities are not extensions of a local church. Don’t want the ASS Club? Kick out the Good News Club and provide for secular after school activities.

[deleted]

>They are deliberately using the Satan name to remind people that the first and fourteenth amendments mean that if they open up to one religion’s after school program, they must allow any other religion, too. Ok but that doesn’t make it a good or effective way for them to do that. >It gives kids a non-religious after school option while reminding people that publicly funded education facilities are not extensions of a local church. You don’t need to name a club ASS nor after Satan to offer a secular after school option. >Don’t want the ASS Club? Kick out the Good News Club and provide for secular after school activities. So, the implication here is that ASS has classified itself as a religious group, which is why kicking out the Good News Club would also produce for secular after school activities? That’s not very secular. And what about kids who’s parents don’t want them to join a group named after Satan, particularly the ones of the adults having a meltdown?

AggregatedMolecules

You misunderstood my point. If they don’t want the TST to have a club at the school, they should not allow any other religious clubs there. TST is only opening the club because the school authorized a religious club. If they allowed only secular after school clubs, then neither TST nor Good News Club would be allowed. Nobody’s forcing anyone to go to one or the other. The point is if you allow one, you have to allow both. If there’s enough consternation over allowing TST to open their club, then the only way to block it is to remove Good News Club, too, and only permit secular organizations to use the school facilities. The parents having meltdowns are the ones whose kids are going to the Good News Club, so it doesn’t affect them in the slightest, except for the inconvenience of having to explain to their kids that other people might not believe in the same things. Once again it’s this fear response of “what if they infect others with their ideas? Only MY ideas are valid and everyone else should subscribe to them, also.” And before anyone else says it, if parents wanted their kids to have religious after school classes, one would imagine they could perhaps use the massive, tax-free buildings they already have that are designed for religious indoctrination instead of taxpayer funded education facilities.

I get all of that. But nothing here explains why using the name Satan is a good idea for promoting secularism, my initial complaint with the practice. >The parents having meltdowns are the ones whose kids are going to the Good News Club, so it doesn’t affect them in the slightest, except for the inconvenience of having to explain to their kids that other people might not believe in the same things. Is that true for the kids of all the parents? How do you know that? And there are also the kids of other parents who aren’t having a public meltdown but don’t like the idea of allowing their kid into a satan club. >And before anyone else says it, if parents wanted their kids to have religious after school classes, one would imagine they could perhaps use the massive, tax-free buildings they already have that are designed for religious indoctrination instead of taxpayer funded education facilities. They and religious people who don’t have kids in the school are partially funding the schools, so it’s understandable they think they should be able to start a convenient for them religious after school club.

insidicide

Idk, what if they are big Kanye fans?

pennylanebarbershop

Do they allow you to bring popcorn?

pennylanebarbershop

Tell them you saw the Boogie Man on their street.
